Disappointed..needs tweaking

I was looking forward to using the audio lessons in conversation format to supplement another very successful program that has improved my speech of Spanish to a point where I am comfortable expressing (although at a low level)my thoughts in speech. I was very disappointed. In my opinion, the format to the audio conversation lessons is backwards. It is very difficult to listen to a foreign language sentence and then keep that in mind and remember it while your listening to the translation in your home language. It should be your home-spoken language first, then a several seconds pause while you try to speak it in the new language, then the translation in the new language to verify or tweak what you just spoke. That's another thing, it does no good to listen only, with no time during the lesson to repeat and practice immediately after the prompt. If you think about it, it only makes sense that a person first has a thought, then, even in our home language, we put the words together to express that thought. So that cannot happen if we first must listen without really knowing the "thought" and then have to take the subsequent translation and then try to remember how it was said in the new language. Also I tried to slow down the speech but found it was echoing so badly it did not work. I wasn't sure if that was my phone problem or your app. If I have missed any options or settings that would fix my concerns, I apologize in advance.

Wonderful Language Learning Program

I have been an ESL instructor for many years. I have basic fluency in two other languages as well. I recommend this program to everyone I meet who is learning another language, as it's so well done.

I have tried both the Prime subscription as well as the Basic subscription for Danish. Both are great depending on how much supplemental material you feel you need. The Prime subscription gives you the option of listening to the individual recorded segments found in both the audio lessons as well as their example material. It also gives you access to a nice flash card system, as well as mini quizzes, among other perks. The Basic subscription gives you access to the entire video and audio library as well, complete with the helpful notes that accompany each lesson.

Whenever I exercise, I usually listen to a single audio lesson three times in a row, repeating out loud every Danish word and sentence I hear. I like it that each lesson ends with a little quiz, giving you time to come up with the translation before the answer is given. Then later I read the lesson material (which includes the transcript and notes for Basic membership) and listen again to the audio.

InnovativeLanguageLearning is very easy to use and lets you download the lessons so you can listen even without an internet connection. Once again, I highly recommend this language learning system. It's simple, fun, as well as informative and thorough.

Quite useful and Enjoyable

Got InnovativeLanguageLearning to learn Japanese. I think it's a great and fun tool, especially together with Rosetta Stone (that forces you to talk to "it"). RS to learn fundamentals and this one to get more native dialog. I'm glad they actually start with fast Japanese dialog first, and then slow it down, and only after that translate. Because it forces you to try and understand what they are talking about without knowing every word, which is what would realistically happen if you went to a foreign country while learning the language. You can always glance at the vocab list first to familiarize yourself and then jump to the lesson. My only wish grammar section was a bit more extensive, but I can't really complain because grammar practice is not really the point of InnovativeLanguageLearning.

Paid for the premium plus membership

I have been using InnovativeLanguageLearning and I am on day number four. Contacted the teacher they advertise so much right on the first day and did the assignment. The one on one teacher they promised hasn’t even said hi (other than the automated welcome message they sent). I called customer support they asked to leave a message with my phone number and I have not received a call yet. I also emailed and still waiting for someone to reply my email.
UPDATE: after a while the teacher responded with another message that looked automated and didn’t even check my first assignment like they said on the first automated message. But then I have to wait 24 hours to get a response since they only reply once a day. They have their 60 money day back guarantee and they don’t even honor it. All I wanted was to downgrade from premium plus to premium and they asked me to do it through Apple when I do it through Apple I got told refunds are not permitted and then innovative language learning tells me they can’t issue refunds because it was handled by Apple. This is awful. DONT EVEN TRY TO GET THE PREMIUM PLUS MEMBERSHIP IT’S LITERALLY A SCAM.

App vs website

Learning from the website is more time convenient than using InnovativeLanguageLearning . If you leave the transcript, notes, or audio in InnovativeLanguageLearning to do something else on your phone or iPad for whatever reason, you lose your place and have to start over from the home page. This is not particularly easy because some of the lessons have similar titles, thus requiring a couple minutes of search to find the precise step I was at. This discourages my use of InnovativeLanguageLearning . It is more practical to use InnovativeLanguageLearning only when you’re not at home and have some free time, which may not be a significant amount of reliable time.

The lesson line up is not consistent with the website dashboard. Even though I have an account, I had to search for the lesson category in panic for fear that my progress on InnovativeLanguageLearning was not tracked on the website. I saw that the progress was synced but wondered why is the information not in corresponding formats.

Not bad but could use improvements

I have been using this software for a while. Its basically pretty good. I think it is enough to become proficient in a language and I am going to continue using it. With that said it has a few issues. First, I have noticed that quite a lot of the podcasts have editing issues. They either have an outright error, or someone says something that they clearly meant to be edited. Also, in some lesson groups they will suddenly and inexplicably change narrators. Not a big deal, but it is noticeable and annoying. Finally, they should just take off the “switch language button on InnovativeLanguageLearning . It doesn’t work. I have tried changing languages from Spanish to Mandarin and from Spanish to Italian on different occasions. But InnovativeLanguageLearning will mot let you do that. In fact it is difficult to change apparently because of the way the account is set up.

Love this app, in my fourth year

InnovativeLanguageLearning isn't the only one I use by any means, but it has kept me on a path of steady progress. I subscribe to the premium version (which has a free month and a nice big sale every year in the beginning of December). I also use it on my desktop because there are even more opportunities for learning and last year I passed the JLPT 5 by preparing using the study guide. I have never had time or funds to take a formal class but I use this in the car, while doing mindless work and in dedicated study sessions. I love the narrators, they make learning fun and interesting and it's great to leave comments on the actual site and get feed back. They even gave me directions on how to add Japanese to my keyboard! Thanks Japanese Pod 101!

A easy and steady way to learn another language!

I have used this product for 6 months now and have over been very satisfied in my progress with learning Japanese. It does feel a bit slow at times but it is necessary to getting the language exposure that you will bring you to understanding even the most complex of languages. The only thing I wish is that they had flash cards on the mobile version and writing flash cards for languages with a completely different writing system from the Roman alphabet. Even without these features, I am still overall very satisfied with the final product and hope that these features will be implemented at a later time.

Horrible App

Can’t figure out where the formal lesson plan is, the iPad app is all over the place. The one thing easy to find are their constant emails to upgrade your subscription to a paid one, despite the fact that I’m currently on their 7-day free trial with all benefits. It should be a simple matter to personalize one’s content and show lesson plans with completion. Every other language learning app does it. On their website, first priority is given to on boarding new customers, not supporting existing ones. If you do figure out how to select lessons, each one starts with the same nonsense 25 SECONDS of bumper music. I guess the developers consider it “charming” but, like hearing a radio ad with a comedic twist, it gets very old very fast, wasting your time. Too much fluff, not enough thought to usability in InnovativeLanguageLearning. Couple that with the constant sales “reminders” to upgrade and meh, who needs it. There are better, more focused, and less costly apps out there.

You tricked me

You said that this language is free life trail which is not a payment. When I get on it and learn Norwegian so I can understand it, there's a rectangle yellow background with red warning sign and in the black text said "Your 7-Day Free Trail Has Expired". Yet this means 7 days free trail has ended it and there is NO way I can afford this. I just wanted to learn Norwegian, and study it, and understand it, and more then I would be intelligent if I were bilingual, and I wanted to be a citizen of Norway (which is a city of love, beautiful, interesting, and vikings as I was recommended). Just as then, I wasn't making an excuse about it but I can see that it could be bug, spam, hacked, or something. I don't wanna criticize you because I love learning Norwegian and if you kindly respect my opinion and very please let me learn Norwegian instead of those payments I don't wanna buy. Thank you.

I’m very happy with this app so far!

I’ve been trying to learn Romanian for as long as I can remember. It’s hard to find apps and other things to learn this language. Most are the most popular languages. So the fact that InnovativeLanguageLearning has it gets a star. I also love how it explains when you use certain words and phrases. When trying to learn on my own I would often find many examples of the same meaning. And not know why there was so many options for the one word. Here they explain when you would use the right words. Ives learned Romanian there are three different types of “excuse me”. Having it this set up makes me feel a lot more confident and trying to Communicate with natives.

Really great way to learn another language

I have a decent basic command of Hebrew but wanted to improve. I am taking a conversational Hebrew class once a week and feel that my vocabulary and comprehension are not on par with my classmates. So I listen to my hebrew podcasts every chance I get. I’ve learned so much more vocab. I love how they break it down - speaking more slowly And then adding the translation. And I love the line by line expansion. I sometimes use that to test myself. Reading the English and seeing if I know how to say it in Hebrew. And I like that I can create a word list to improve my vocabulary. I also like the cultural lesson and the grammar offered in each lesson. Overall think this is a great app!

Amazing!!

I have tried many language apps but this is by far the best one ever! Most apps/programs make you memorize words. They don’t teach you the cultural background or even the grammar! Which is very important when needing to know how to form sentences and have a conversation. Personally that’s what makes InnovativeLanguageLearning/website outstanding. There’s so many tools to help you fast track your progress for an affordable price, especially with the unlimited amount of tools available. I’m just starting out as an absolute beginner filipino but I see a promising future for my growth.

Meh, it needs work.

I love InnovativeLanguageLearning, but is audio and video all it has?? InnovativeLanguageLearning is great, the way it's organized, everything! But there needs to be changes.
• The price for premium is extremely expensive, I'd buy it, but the price is too high.
• The amount of languages. I really want to learn Flemish, but there isn't any.
• I think that there should be ways to not only have audio and video, but typing and other ways too. Sometimes I want to use InnovativeLanguageLearning, but I'm in public and don't want the volume to be too loud just so I could hear and pronounce.
• The setup makes me uncomfortable. I think that it should be available to make a folder in a folder, so the vocabulary section wouldn't be so unorganized and uncomfortable for me and maybe some other people.

Relatively good app but...

It’s not the best language learning format, but I’m happy with it. I wish there was a bit more interactivity m, such as the text appearing on screen as the conversation is happening, as it can be a bit difficult to jump up and down the pdf’s on a mobile device when trying to listen, but I doubt this will be changed.

However something I do think that can and should be changed is easier transition between languages. At least remember logins when switching between languages and allow us to favorite languages at the top of the language list. It’s so annoying to have to login each time when switching between Indonesian and Japanese, and have to scroll each time to find the languages. Please fix this

Key Features Missing

* Favorite lessons
* Flash cards (both adding vocabulary to them, and using them)

Suppose you find a lesson you like on the desktop client, and you want to pick up where you left off on your phone, so you favorite it... you have to go through 3 or 4 menus to get to it (assuming you remember the title) as favorites aren't available on mobile.

Likewise - a few minutes free on your commute and want to study flash cards? Since this feature isn't available in InnovativeLanguageLearning the recommended workaround is to login to the website in your mobile browser.

I realize I am an outlier - but I am privacy conscious and my mobile browser clears all cookies / browsing data on exit so I'd need to login every single time I want to access the content / features I paid for.

In general, the mobile experience feels completely divorced from the web app experience. Find the developer(s) on your team pushing for a consistent API that both the web app and mobile app call (if you have any) and give those people the time time / resources to make things work the way they should! 😜

Good app otherwise so far!

Great, but important improvements needed.

InnovativeLanguageLearning taught me a lot, despite its own format, sort of. I totally agree with other feedback I’ve seen saying we shouldn’t hear the translation second. We should hear primary language first and then the new language. If I hear a bunch of unknown words and then my language, I can’t remember what it’s translating. If I hear my language first, I know what meaning to look for in the phrase. Also, the subscriptions are so expensive. The 7.99 subscription doesn’t even let you listen to the vocab words separately, which doesn’t make sense, since you could just scrub to that part of the lesson anyway, so it’s just an added inconvenience unless you pay.

lots of potential, serious issues

I liked the pronunciation videos enough to immediately sign up for Premium, they were that good

Then I tried their flashcards- very disappointing. Enough issues that I emailed support. Ten hours later not even a ‘Hey we got the email’ auto response that everyone seems to have nowadays.

Word bank is glitchy- I only have 4 words in it so far, but only two have Pinyin, the other two don’t?

InnovativeLanguageLearning was set up by third party guys that never need to use it. Those in the company also seem to not be users, based on their design layout !

An example is: In Mandarin there are 4 separate tone marks. In InnovativeLanguageLearning ’s version of flashcards the Pinyin is small , and the tone marks are tiny! If you can imagine a flash card on a phone where 90% of the screen is ‘white space’ while the useful info takes up less than 5% of the screen?!?

Who in their right mind would think this is even ok let alone ‘good’ ??

so, tldr. Great vids but poor design

which

Still learning to navigate this

I’ve had basic subscriptions, and just switched to premium. The Japanese I tried for a month in basic, and found it very helpful during a trip there, but I recommend studying several months in advance. I also used Cantonese in basic, and mainly listened to the absolute beginner and lower beginner classes. Absolute beginner was slower-paced and the classes were more natural-sounding. Lower beginner sounds more like a poor quality read back, but is still informative. It’s also faster-paced with more vocabulary. I will now be trying premium for Japanese, Cantonese, and Mandarin. It drove me nuts how they kept changing the sale percentage during Black Friday weekend though! I know that’s how a lot of businesses operate, but I hate it.

You’ll never learn from anywhere better than here

I was very skeptical of InnovativeLanguageLearning and site. I’ve been trying to learn russian and every source I went to just seemed to not be able to do the job and I thought it would be the same here. I was proven wrong quick, I have learned to quickly and understand so much more than anywhere I’ve been. I paid for the bigger package too which comes with a teacher and she has been a wonderful teacher and has taught me a lot and is even helping me go to school in russia. Never had a bad experience and it was worth every penny to use the site.
