Game is f2p however anything that means anything in this game is all stuck behind large paywalls. There is no way to get red gems and the amount of gems to do anything is high compared to what you gain. They give you blue gems for free on most modes but then immediately take it away for random events and small purchases you need in the game like more stamina or for your guild.

The game is most likely just there to make as much money as possible and inevitably shut down as multiple players in my server quit already. Only rich players can continue as whoever has the deeper wallets are competing with deeper wallets. And the only players who think this is ok are players who have those wallets.

It’s an ok mobile game, there are many on MetalSlug Store that has used this formula to copy the spirit of Metal Slug. This somehow feels less authentic even with the Metal Slug Branding. The charm is gone with the 3D graphics. The humor is lost in the bluntness, and finally the voice acting is unnecessary for a largely pantomimed story elements from the original. The owner of the IP is free to do what they like, but I can’t help feel the direction they are taking will have diminishing returns for them. I can’t really complain, since there will always be the original 1-3 plus X to enjoy.

For a game like this a controller like Backbone or even connecting a PlayStation or Xbox controller would just make it so much better my first saw the ad and I got excited because I do own a Backbone controller thinking I can spend hours playing this game but instead, I have to use the touchscreen which takes up so much space and blocks a lot of the view. why remake a game to look this good only to have it blocked by your hand you would think the developers would support the use of a controller. Seeing how the mechanics of the game was based on the arcade or even handheld controllers back in the day.

Game gets 5 stars as long as you never play pvp with the other big spenders. Really fun game. Especially if you are a fan of the old Metal Slug games. But it’s absolutely pay to win. Do not expect to do anything meaningful in pvp unless you’re willing to shell out some decent money. Game’s been out for just a few weeks and you can already see the clear power line between casual players and big spenders. It’s literally like 5 guys just dominating everything. Double the power rating of everybody else.

If you don’t care about pvp, then you can have some fun playing it without spending anything. But if you’re here for the PvP, bring your debit card.

Being such a big fan the classic games it makes it a bit harder to not be a little more biased but just 5 minutes in of playing it I realized the amount of cutscenes there are, I’ve also noticed some voice line changes and I definitely noticed the different controls.. I’m not a big fan of the automatic aiming it seems to only make the game a little too easy, all in all its not my favorite but it’s not the worst.

Hi if you are reading this don’t be fooled by the subpar rating, this game is very fun to play and the mix of main story plot with minor “events” or mini games going help make the free roaming aspect of the game a bit more entertaining. Although I understand the game was just released I would very much hope that Controller Support will be released in an update in the near future. Making this game playable via a controller such as a Backbone would very much make this game more reminiscent of the classic arcade version, for sure to give way to a 5-star rating.

A fun resurrection of this classic series (though the main social hub is an awful mess of poor navigation and way too many players / obvious bots at once); but how does it not support controllers!?

This type of game was specifically designed for those styles of controls, and whilst the touchscreen ones are good enough, it’s clearly not how Metal Slug was meant to be played.

It screams ‘Lack of developer effort’ that this feature was ignored.

this game is perfect. It’s really nostalgic to play again. The graphisms are really beautiful, but it’s so sad that we can use a controller like my Xbox controller because on iPad it’s really hard to play with the screen.

I’ll start off by saying that I love metal slug. It’s one of my favorite games of all time. (Right behind Risk of Rain 2 on my list). My first suggestion was when I got to the point where I was able to go around the town and check everything out. It was super neat, but the game kinda threw all of this new stuff at me all at the same time, and it took me a bit to understand where everything was and all that. My second suggestion is about the level cap to do quests in the main story. Instead of making people grind for levels, just let them go ahead and do the story! I hate having to do all this random stuff and quests just to get to the next level! (I’m on lvl 36-37 or something right now at the time of writing this review). Also, way to many cutscenes.

Also want to say that Marco Rossi with RTX on is neat by my standards but feels a bit out of place.

The voice acting too. For all the characters. (Except Tarma, who sounds like what I think he would sound like. Did a solid there, Devs.)

Finally, add a way to get rubies WITHOUT paying. I don’t care how hard the quest is, just have rubies as the reward. That’s all I have to say.

This is my first time writing a review for a game or even for any app actually, but I had to.
The game is beyond amazing, the graphics, the characters, the firearms everything is just top notch of what this kind of game is supposed to look like.
I am one of the players that has grinded a lot, I got to level 53 in less than a week and I noticed that on the story line once you kill the last boss you just have to re-do the whole thing at a harder difficulty? WHY?
Don’t get me wrong, it would have actually made sense if you guys had left it as an option to go back every once in a while but still go on with a different story/chapter. There’s no point on re-doing the whole thing over again, it’s boring.

C’mon man, how y’all gonna make a dope game but then ship it WITHOUT controller support???😒

I’ve only played the Metal Slug series of games like once or twice before. I’ll admit, the old school look didn’t always mesh well with the frenetic gameplay. You guys stepped it up with Awakening BIG TIME! ❤️ But you guys are still living in the past not offering controller support for a game this huge from day one…and listen, I’m not a fan of the new GaaS setup but y’all make up with it by giving players so much to do and so many ways to enjoy the game. YET, it’s like you guys were able to cram eeeeeeeverthing into this game EXCEPT controller support. Why? 🤔 4 ⭐️ rating until I get controller support.

Can you guys please add the option to play with a controller? That would just make this game for me. Otherwise, really cool so far. Also, port this game to all consoles! There’s so much potential for an energy less version. You can still have the store and battle passes.

The lack of controller support is why I won’t give it 5 stars. Otherwise it’s great. It took me a while to figure out how to mapp buttons with a controller (it’s the first game I’ve tried to play with a controller in quite a long time). Once I was up and running, I had a blast. It’s definitely going to get a lot of playtime on my Retroid. Nicely done.

I love the game so far just started and it goves me a good nostalgic moment of when i played it on the psp(very high replay ability)
Only concern is , are we able to connect a controller? I usually play my games with a controller (ps4 DUELSHOCK) but i cant seem to configure it.
If it’s possible itd be f’n incredible for what you guys made, all in all its great so far but not to fomd of touch controls.
If possible to implement it later on i swear it’d be 5/5

The game is great. Definitely a new take on a classic arcade game. Needs controller support ASAP. With support for controller mapping. We live in 2024, games like this need that support since this is a cross compatible game on different systems like steam. Other than that the game play is great. Hopefully this doesn’t become an extreme pay to play game. The hope is they take a page from Nintendo and make it so that the daily achievements and bundles are obtainable through native game play. We will see. But over all a great game.

Everything is fun and great very grindable and friendly but the energy system is very bad after 1 hour of play every day you cant do anything else cause the energy is depleted even after buying the 2 extra ones need at least 200 energy per day and 1 energy every minute

This is a great game. Not the best, and has room for improvement. It played off the nostalgia in grabbing attention of old arcade game used to have to use quarters and now it’s at our finger tips.

Once you come to the end of the content there is an update with more content and new story, new chars, new weapons, etc. Monthly Passes are definitely worth it as it will help you keep up with content progression. Will you be at the top? No, but it will help you enjoy what content is out.

Weekly PvP is for the whales like in any other game. If you’re lucky you can match with players in similar power level, those are the most fun.

Fair Play modes, yes fair, where power does not have as big of an advantage. And it’s unlimited game play, no energy needed. unlimited.

Developers do need to consider giving more rewards during events, more pick axes so that F2P can get more stars on their weapons or obtain legendary ones.

This will make the game more exciting for the community, and excite the spenders when the competition can put up a fight without being completely one sided.

Hoping that the Developers add new mechanics to the game now that it is global and never before seen events for holidays.

Ok, so I looooove this game! lol I'm 45 y.o. and play this game so much, that my carpal tunnel is acting up on my left wrist. It is so adventure, and I have loved trying to figure out how the "core" system works. It would be nice to have some sort of training guide, and my other issue is, emptying my backpack to allow new items in. How the HECK do you EMPTY the backpack? I am put in a few tickets and I never hear back from support and then my tickets disappear.

Other than that game is hella fun and gives you tons of loot, without having to even buy extra.

This game is awesome, plays just like my arcade versions of Metal Slug but with new weapons and added Slugs. Started playing this on Thursday 7/17 when it released then switched to the steam version when it came out, I can switch between the two and keep my progress, but I’d really like to use my Backbone. PLEASE ADD CONTROLLER SUPPORT!!!!

This is the first time I’m making a review of a mobile game in years, but this one deserves it. This is hands down the best game on mobile I’ve played in years. Decently great graphics, killer game play, no ads. I’ve just made it to hq for the first time and I’m already so excited for the rest of the game.
Also, forgot to say the music design is fantastic.

Successfully brings the classic run-and-gun action to mobile with updated visuals and smooth gameplay, retaining the series' charm while adding new content and multiplayer modes. However, the introduction of a stamina system and in-app purchases can be limiting and may disrupt the gameplay experience, making it a bit frustrating for those who prefer an uninterrupted, arcade-like experience. Despite these drawbacks, it remains a fun and nostalgic game for fans of the original series.

I might be exaggerating a bit but I don’t care. I’m a lifelong metal slug fan from their classic arcade games I played as a kid, and Im ECSTATIC this title has revived the series. This game has a ridiculous amount of positives to boast.

Soundtrack: This title Contains a bunch of new songs and ridiculously high quality covers of the old songs from the original series. Insanely cool jazz fusion action going on…as a musician, it is very high quality

Graphics + Art style: Not only is this beautiful for a mobile game, but they stayed as faithful as they could have to the original art style. Countless returning faces still retain the same charm they did as before

Game mechanics: Very interesting, novel mechanics were added in addition to refined versions of the classic mechanics

In addition to all of this, the faithfulness to the source material is admirable. Even the announcer shouting “Ok!” And “Heavy Machinegun” are amidst multiple nostalgic tributes to the original series's iconography. Love it!

This game awesome and obviously it’s not the same as before and we shouldn’t have that expectation! I love it that even after a long time this game is still being worked on and you could tell the developers went above and beyond to make this game a success. I hope it gets more attention because it deserves it.

Played metal slug since I was around 10 when my dad first introduced me to the game series. I tried it out and it was pretty fun. It’s nice how you don’t die from a single gunshot like in the original games that I’ve tried to play without any death. I don’t like the big fuss about the servers it clearly stated when the servers where going to open and be available. Seem to me like a lot of people can’t read and don’t have any patience. This game is not a money bringer like it used to be, you should be happy it’s even getting a new game. Ill stand on ten toes for this game😤😤😤

Played for a few hours: graphics, controllers, story, and gameplay are fantastic. You can tell they put in a lot of work into this game. Thanks for bringing back some 90’s arcade memories.

I’ve played a few older versions of Metal Slug in the past. Was really excited about this coming to mobile. Can’t wait when it’s fully online in the evening today!

This game brings me back! I love the way you can level up, upgrade weapons, unlock characters. Everything about this game is incredible! If I could give this more stars I totally would. Highly recommend this game.

Not gonna lie this game was one of my favorites during my childhood during the arcade. I think they revived it perfectly. The art works great. It matches the aesthetic of the old version. I grew up onI’ve only played a few moments of it, and I already love it

I started playing and switched controls to manual aim. I tried aiming up to shoot and wasn’t able to. I trained jumping and aiming down, and I couldn’t either. This is very different from the original.

From big YouTuber: Awesome Game I’ve always been a fan of metal slug I like the up to date way y’all have this game. Tons of fun already!! I don’t know if y’all were connected to the idle game one but make sure this one doesn’t close randomly because it’s pretty awesome :0

Been a fan of the series since playing at the coin op laundromats back in the day. Love how we can play a 3D version of the game and the cut scenes are fantastic. There’s noticeable lag but not anything to take away from how much effort was put into putting you into a full on Metal Slug experience.

This is by far the most fun I have had playing any of the metal slug titles

It has a classic feeling on this game. The only issue is how much your device can handle the graphics. I wished they added a online co-op feature to this game. So other people can join you in on the fun. Otherwise this game is good as a stand alone.

I have been a life long fan of Metal Slug as a game series. So that put a lot of expectations on my mind when I caught word of Awakening’s announcement. Now that it’s released I have decided to play this game for a couple of days and I can say with ABSOLUTE CERTAIN, That those expectations were met and Surpassed. This game doesn’t deserve my rating. It EARNED it.

This game is pretty good and I have been playing it for a while now, I have pretty much zero complaints as I have always loved metal slug and I like the story too. I haven't found any bugs yet either so thats always nice, the gameplay is great and I have no complaints on it. I would recommend this game as it is very fun for me personally and probably for anyone else who reads this too.

I remember playing this series way back when I was 5 or younger. Wasted all my quarters at my local pizza place to play this game. It was awesome. Cut to today. You guys have successfully transported me back to that time. Not only does the run and gun gameplay feel fantastic, but the the graphics are simply gorgeous. On top of that the fact that this game has voice acting, what a huge plus as well as new moves that change up the formula. To people who played this series back in the day, get hyped this game is a wonderful throwback.

The game is very good, the only problem is that to really enjoy the game it would have to have (control support) to enjoy the gameplay more, since we all played this great game through Arcade joysticks in the 90's and later on console controls, It's just that in the form of a touch screen it is something strange and we would like to feel the nostalgia and the total experience through physical controls. I know that these new generations may be more accustomed to the touch screen but don't forget the millennials since we are the ones who supported and magnified this game in the 90's and currently we continue to promote it especially because we have more capital to enjoy memories from our childhood✌🏼
