2.4 out of 5
Fumbled it

I remember all the hype around this platform on twitter. The flashy (blank) website and the accounts all claiming this was the future of social networking. But to see it get 2/5 stars out of the gate is so hilarious lol.

The onboard was seamless until it actually hits a brick wall with invites: I personally think the 2/5 stars comes from the irritating clip of a poorly chroma-keyed person explaining how painful it is to invite friends to join any other app, but continues on to ask you to invite people to amo.

TLDR; hype + a terrible boarding process that scares used = a 2 out of 5 on Sugar Store lol

This app

Ok guys I hope this helps but the reviews are true, not to be mean but the adds were very exciting in all but I have an iPad and it has a phone number but it doesn’t work on apps like this so um when I tried and typed in my number it never sent me anything and there is no help button or anything and no going back after you name and stuff so it’s pretty sad because I got so exited to make an epic design and it won’t even let me please fix this but and reply to me if your seeing this developers :(

Amo should not be allowed on the App Store

A friend invited me to Sugar. The first thing I saw was a video telling me I needed to give them access to all my contacts in order to use Sugar . It’s amazing Apple hasn’t cracked down on this yet.

The second thing I saw was that the invite I got had apparently expired (it had been less than a day) and that I needed to invite 5 people in order to use Sugar . The onboarding video says it’s because “Amo only makes sense with friends.” Fine. But my friends are on Amo. I already gave you access to my contacts—let me use your app and connect me with my friends who are on there! I’m certainly not inviting 5 new people to have this needlessly hostile onboarding experience.

Since installing Amo last night, I’ve received the same push notification every ~hour asking me to invite 5 friends. Seriously.

Amo demands all of your contacts, their invites are needlessly confusing, they demand you invite 5 new people even if your friends are already on there, and they spam you with push notifications until you do what they ask. It’s hostile and unethical. Apple needs to prevent apps like this from doing what they’re doing. In the meantime, Amo needs to stop doing these unethical and annoying practices that make everyone hate them.

can’t get in.

i’ve had Sugar for over a month now and i still can’t get in!! all of my friend invites have downloaded, logged into, and created accounts for Sugar and i still haven’t gotten in. I honestly think this is a scam or a money grab. The ads are MISLEADING. I originally saw Sugar on tiktok and thought it would be a cutesy thing to do with my friends, that was SOOOO not true. Me and my friend have been sitting like waiting ducks for over a month trying to get into Sugar and it’s so frustrating because i js keep inviting more people in hopes it’ll let me in but it won’t. i hope you read this review before downloading. DONT DOWNLOAD!!! you’ll just waste your time and your storage, ultimately you’ll be disappointed. and for all you swifties out there who downloaded because of the taylor swift ad, ITS ALL FAKE. you’re welcome.

Novel idea; Piss-poor execution

Sugar initially wouldn’t even let me sign up. It just kept loading ad infinitum. Two updates later and now it’s fixed. Now the images won’t stop flashing and the background remover by photo room can not be toggled off A. That should be a feature B. I’m pretty sure that’s the source of the problem. Also any time I exit Sugar all of what I just created is erased. I just don’t know if I have the patience for an app that is so mismanaged and glitchy. If you’re the developer reading this, do better. This could be a really cool app; not the next Instagram or Twitter but a fun alternative to Pinterest (perhaps even one day linking with Pinterest) I’m sending positive vibes. Sugar could really be something. And mention red M&M’s in your response so I know you actually read this.

Doesn’t do what was promised

My friend sent me an invitation to Sugar so I get it right, she shows me stuff about what it’s supposed to do so I try it. It says you put up photos then you put up a smaller photo inside of that photo and make it a loop where you keep zooming in. It only lets you zoom in to a certain extent though (which is only a little) and stops letting you put more photos or zoom more. The description of the game is very deceiving and I would not use Sugar much more if some of these problems stay like this

Sucky

Sucky app. Got invited by a friend who I don’t know very well, which is already odd, and when I downloaded it, I can’t do anything without allowing contacts. I don’t even know what Sugar is about or why it thinks it needs access to my friends. I don’t want my friends to be forced to allow access to contacts and I hope none of my friends download Sugar. I cannot even rate the features because I don’t know what they are. Using fomo to make people feel like they need to allow access to contacts seems malicious and manipulative toward impressionable kids.

Seriously?

Sign up for Sugar but before I can even explore and figure out what this is I have to invite people. Why would I invite people before I know what I’m inviting them to? However, I have a couple friends who like to do this kind of stuff but I have to give amo access to full list of contacts. Hard stop there.

Advice? Help early users understand what they’re getting into. Once they do prompt to invite. And don’t request the full contact list. I should be able to send a text to the people I think would be interested in joining.

Terrible App

So I decided to download Sugar because I wanted a cool zoom-in profile pic, and I had seen it on my Snapchat. So I downloaded Sugar , and it made me invite a friend, and when my friend accepted, it didn’t let us both in. I was tried everything and it wouldn’t let us in. We then invited more friends, and it finally let us in. I made ONE amo and it wouldn’t let me do anymore. I don’t know if it’s a user error, but I find Sugar useless. Not to mention there aren’t a lot of options for stickers, text colors, etc. One star overall.

potential is there - keeps crashing

was really fun for a while, and i even invited friends to join it, but after a while of me adding photos, i must’ve added too many or something because Sugar keeps crashing every time i open it, warranting it basically useless. I can look at my profile for about 4 seconds before the screen goes black and then brings me back to my home screen

hopefully they update and fix this issue soon so i can get back on Sugar

potential is insane

so i love Sugar. it’s so fun to just build it up. there are some major glaring issues however.

First - after deleting it to try and fix a bug it won’t let me log in after redownloading it. maybe i wasn’t supposed to delete it in the first place idk. it’s a bummer that i can no longer access it however :/

Second - the actual bug that i deleted Sugar for was pretty awful. i love the different levels you can have for your stuff and how you can hide some stuff halfway under others. the problem is that my big central photo keeps getting covered by other items that won’t stay in their level. it’s like it’s resetting the progress i make everytime i change it. i figured this was just a me thing and closed Sugar , reset my phone, ect. nothing will fix it.

there are other minor bugs but that’s to be expected with a new app. i hope Sugar becomes more concrete as i love using it. i also hope that there’s a fix for my bug soon so that i can get back to it. i wish the devs all the luck in the world.

Stuck on where to type my number in

So i just downloaded it about a hour ago but for some reason when i type my number in it says sorry and that its broke. Ive redownloaded it twice but still it does that. I put in my age and im over 16 but still. Help please lol

Super cool app!

I’ve spent like five hours on here, today alone. The potential is crazy, as someone else said. Some things I’ve noticed; after so many layers on Sugar (I want to say 14 is where I got) Sugar started glitching so bad it’s impossible to use.

For instance, I can no longer move stickers/ images to their proper place. They just get stuck on the screen. Also, I can scroll into about layer 10/14 and then the stickers will start vibrating/ moving out of spot/ or simply won’t load the next layer.

To be fair I pushed it pretty far, but I think there should either be a limit on how many layers you can have or something along the lines of this.

I have an iPhone 14 pro max, so I don’t know if that has to do with what my phone can achieve or not.

Either way, big fan! I hope this is something fixable!

Great Potential

However I feel Sugar needs an option to like browse other members boards otherwise it’s super hard to find friends-which is kinda the whole point yes? I don’t have many irl friends who have iPhones so this would be a great feature for me to still enjoy Sugar - also the turning mechanism that allows you to rotate your sticker/pictures is very finicky

The bugs I had is fixed BUT…..

I could put my phone number in and all that but there’s not a lot of choices of sticker and colors etc.. but I wanted to make a cool zoom in profile and I wanted to make more Amos but I can only make one also I can’t delete the stickers if I mess up ( I messed up a lot)
So yeah it’s a pretty good app overall but I would definitely recommend alowing to make more Amos and being able to delete the stickers and have a lot of choices for colors and stickers etc

Love the creative take to social media!

Within 5 minutes of my friend accepting my invite we both were accepted and could start using our accounts!
I will say that I recommend adding a tutorial to all the tools available to use because there was a lot of trial and error figuring them out.
& maybe more colors/sizes with the drawing tool !

Creativity Unleashed

This is what chat should be like it! The amount of creativity and customization is unmatched. The ability to draw, place stickers anywhere, customize texts enables a whole new form of expression in chats. I can’t wait to see more people and friends use this as it grows. I think it has massive potential.

Unique

With all the social media platforms, it can be a lot to juggle. It has become greater than just keeping in touch with close friends and family. ID by amo is a fascinating app that allows you to keep your circle small, with having just your close friends. With ID you can creat collages or mood boards with stickers and photos you have. It also allows your friends to add to your collage of stickers. Making it customizable to you and your life at that time. This allows you to keep in touch easier with relatives and close friends. I think this is a super cool app as long as you get your friends involved!

Frozen on the launch screen

No option to log in or create chat, frozen on welcome screen

this app is amazing

i have what i like to call a ‘tiny social app addiction’. naturally, i installed ID the day it came out on testflight and it instantly became my new favorite app.

the social space has been so dull lately… amo brings me joy! there are so many possibilities to create experiences with friends and make beautiful things.

thanks amo team!
