Tried the search function and couldn’t scroll through the list of hits—took a bunch of tries each time I tried to scroll up or down. Checked it a few times and same results. There’s a continuous scroll setting for reading ebooks, but it still makes you hit a button to go to the next page when you hit the end of a chapter, and it treated each poem in a poetry collection as a chapter. If you don’t select the annoying “continuous scroll” option the text is automatically two column, at least on the iPad, no matter how I rotated it, which is not how I want to read ebooks. Easily the worst commercial ebook reader I’ve encountered.

Was so happy to find an alternative e-book source. Bought my first book. Sad to report BookshoporgEbooks on my iPad had very poor functionality, e.g. could not change font size or vertical scroll settings.

I’ve been waiting for Bookshop to offer an ebook option so I was pretty excited when this was released. However, BookshoporgEbooks itself is pretty disappointing. The customization options are limited and even the setting screen itself leaves much to be desired. For example, when I open BookshoporgEbooks on my Boox Go 7, the font size option appears off screen and there is no way to reach it. I won’t be purchasing any books until BookshoporgEbooks has seen a few upgrades.

I looked over the features and the store. Overall it seems like a good design and easy to manage. My only issues are that I read a lot of indie authors and it doesn’t seem like any of their books are on here, event the trad list is relatively small right now.

I think it’s great that’s it supporting indie bookstores. My one deterrent from using apps like this or Fable for book buying is it’s unclear how I’m supporting the author with my purchases whereas other apps I know they earn a small fee per page read.

I’m glad to see Bookshop is selling ebooks! I definitely want to support local bookshops this way.
I’m a bit confused by the ebook format, though. Every book I sampled has a scene break between each paragraph. It makes reading extremely difficult. This is not how books work. Fingers crossed they update this!
I’m still giving it four stars for support and will update.

I read entirely on my phone with the Kindle app, primarily through the library but when I buy a book I’d love to support my local bookstore by buying through this. I always have dark mode on, though, and this has a blue/purple background instead of a true black, which is way too bright at night still. Please add true night mode!

Hallelujah! So pleased that Bookshop is now offering ebooks and has put out an app too to make that possible. I’ve been yearning for a good alternative to Amazon that doesn’t divert funds from local bookstores.

I read and highlight/annotate a lot of ebooks for my work. And I have a color coded system of highlights which makes it easy to filter my highlights in the Kindle app to see certain kinds. I’m so sad that there’s only one color for highlighting in the Bookshop app. If there were four or more, I’d switch in a heartbeat to make this my go to ebook reader.

Until that happens, I think I’ll need to stay with Kindle — and hopefully can figure out how to import ebooks from Bookshop into that app.

Thanks for making local ebooks a reality. And please keep refining BookshoporgEbooks to make it a no brainer as everyone’s go to ebook reader.

I’d love to see more themes, fonts, and text customizations in the ereader portion of BookshoporgEbooks . Also the ability to view my wishlist from BookshoporgEbooks would be helpful. All that said, I’m thrilled I can finally support my local bookstore buying ebooks!

I’ve been waiting for so long for bookshop.org to get ebooks. It was definitely worth it in my opinion. The only thing I would love to see is more colors with highlighting. I think the interface is great though.

BookshoporgEbooks is clean and I love the mission to support indie bookstores. In an age of consolidation and corporate power, it’s so nice to be able to support the little guy when I buy ebooks!
