App Deleted My Progress

After the recent update for ‘pawlyglot’, Vocabuo deleted all of my progress including my streak and any vocab I had learned. I wasn’t given a warning of these deletions. I was learning 70+ new words a day and now I’m expected to start at zero, which defeats the purpose of an SRS system.

Hoping in the future (if I continue to use Vocabuo ) it won’t delete progress every time there is a new update…

The app freezes and just spins

Once I got through the quick tutorial and got to the 7 day free trial page, Vocabuo just sits there and spins… it doesn’t let me proceed and won’t let me past the 7 day free trail page???

Great review but uses AI slop 😔

Spaced repetition is a great learning strategy, especially for long-term memory according to sources. However I can‘t get behind the use of AI slop images and the option to pay extra from AI bots. Should be the developers responsibility to either commission accurate information/pictures or purchase information available from humans imo.

Good

Repetition helps

I Enjoy the app!

It really helps me keep motivated learning German :)

Add More Languages

I would use Vocabuo all the time if it had languages like Brazilian Portuguese and Russian. I think that choosing Swedish over those languages was a bold choice. Anyways, Vocabuo is great.

Better than Duolingo

TLDR: Useful but some AI features are not necessary / detrimental (images, chatbot).

Impressive app for being built by one person, but leans heavily on AI, which means the sentences or translations can sometimes be weird or wrong. But mostly it’s fine.

The AI images are very weird and I turned them off immediately - they’re not particularly helpful. The Pawlyglot AI chatbot is also not very helpful.

I like it more than Duolingo because it organizes learning by CEFR levels instead of useless kindergarten vocab. The AI-generated explanations, pronunciations, and example sentences are helpful.

Simple but Thoughtful

I really like Vocabuo. Sentences are short and simple but challenging. Spent a lot of time looking for a tool to help me with my language journey. This is what I wanted.

This is app is golden

Its quick and easy. Its worth the money and a bargain for what it gives

Great app

I am really enjoying this app. I’ve tried many of the popular apps but I feel like this has been making things click a lot faster for me. Definitely worth the subscription.

Super helpful vocabulary app!

I have downloaded and deleted so many language learning apps because they over promise and under deliver. This one says it will teach you vocabulary - and it does! I like that I can choose how I want to practice (e.g., type, speak, recall and by definition, in a sentence, etc.). It is the right amount of customization, while keeping focus on learning new words.

Best for learning

I’ve been looking for an app like this, finally someone made one.

Perfect app

Vocabuo is so good! Infinitely configurable. Beautiful. It’s Vocabuo I would have built if I had the time

Super Helpful

This is exactly the kind of app that I needed to continue to improve my German

Very good for both review and learning

Very wide vocabulary

👍

Super convenient

Love the look

So I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I'll admit that what drew me to Vocabuo and it's keeping me there is that I like looking at it. It has a retro but modern aesthetic that I really like. And I'm focusing on that aspect for this review because there are many apps that perform the same function -- flashcards to learn vocab. So for me, what makes this one stand out is that I like looking at it haha

No European Portuguese

Please add European Portuguese to your offerings.

Mega app

Super zufrieden mit dieser app

1 year of using this app

I’ve been using Vocabuo for a year and I love it. Here’s a really long review with suggestions of what I want to see in the future at the end.

I’ve used this app for a year. Vocabuo is incredibly efficient and it’s 100% worth a subscription. The creator is very responsive and all of the features make it impossible not to improve in the languages you use it for.

For example, I can drive to and from work while talking to one of the AI conversation bots, and it will generate a list of key vocabulary and grammar cards which I can choose from to add to my (VERY customizable) spaced repetition. Then, when I get home I can start reading within Vocabuo and saving more words to my vocabulary list, instantly calling definitions by clicking on them.

Throughout the day, I often think of words in each language and can immediately search them in Vocabuo and add them to my vocabulary repetitions as well.

About the spaced repetition: you can choose from a variety of different flash card settings that work for you. I love to make my flash cards progressively more abstract (such as reading the textbook definition of the word in each target language) the further I get into knowing a specific word. Vocabuo makes it simple to set that up in the flash card settings.

For the creator to add in the future:

- Some variation of themes or dark mode compatibility. I have my devices in dark mode/night shift because I get migraines, so I would appreciate a setting to make Vocabuo environment darker if needed.

- Some things I want to see in the future are language-specific settings. Right now you have to universally set your minute goal, your repetition types, max words, etc. If you want to have a different setting when you switch languages, you have to go manually change it. Not the end of the world, but I’d like that to be different.

- Additionally, I would love to see more languages. I know Brazilian Portuguese is coming soon which I’m ecstatic about. I’m greedy, so experimenting with Russian would be super cool, even if it’s a Beta version for a while. Then, one day I would love to see about Levantine Arabic, but I’m sure that will be next to impossible to pull off.

Anyway, this is a 10/10 app. I am excited for the future.
