Way Too Complicated to Setup Thermostat, Doesn’t Work Correctly

I didn’t have a choice in using FirstAlert to connect the Honeywell T6 in my new build. I didn’t think their apps could get any worse than the TCC app we used at the old house on an older model with fewer bells and whistles, but this one is worse. Setup was TERRIBLE - you get asked ~20 questions about your heating system that no homeowner knows - I had my system’s manual in front of me and couldn’t answer the questions at all! - and there’s no option to skip them. I’m not even sure what most of them are asking!!! From a UX standpoint, FirstAlert gives incorrect information about how to connect to HomeKit, telling me to use a menu item that doesn’t exist on my thermostat (haven’t figured that one out yet) and it keeps bringing the enable notifications dialog modal up to go to my settings 2-3x every minute or so which I have already said “Don’t Allow”. While this looks like a native modal, the poor grammar suggests that it’s something FirstAlert designed and is using native app commands to push. Super annoying! So I can manually see and control my thermostat from the other room now; the rest of FirstAlert is terrible and it hasn’t solved my problems at all. Honeywell - you need to realize that poor UX is a huge reason why people flock to Nest instead of you. We will be replacing this unit with one in the next few weeks because of the terrible experiences.

Slow

App is slow and takes a restart to work at times. Very buggy. Also the run history takes days to show up, which is ridiculous. Never had these problems with Nest. Only using this garbage because it came with the new build house. Will be replacing it very soon if these issues persist.

Can’t even login!

Downloaded FirstAlert and created account but every time I try to sign in it just reloads into the same screen! Deleted it and redownloaded still same problem.

App won’t load

Tried to sign in after creating account and I click the sign in button and nothing happens!
Tried deleting and re installing with no change.

Won’t function on cellular data only wifi

FirstAlert apparently will not work on cellular data. I have Google Fi and all the other apps work but not this one. The company support was unable to give me a solution.

It is flawed. It doesn’t create any sense of security.

FirstAlert takes forever to update the added devices. I added several devices, to FirstAlert , it didn’t happen.
It can’t communicate with the L1 WiFi Water Leak detectors. They are always offline.

Needs fixed

It is impossible to set up a new thermostat on the iPhone 15. The “get started” button is too low to allow you to proceed to the home screen. Had to set it up on my iPad, but cannot use it from my phone.

Can’t change the temperature to Fahrenheit

My phones temperature is in Celsius because of its region. FirstAlert doesn’t allow me to change the temperature to Fahrenheit like every single other app.

Scheduling doesn’t work at all. You cannot set it to heat at 6:30am 24C for example, you can only give it a range and it never works

Doesn’t work with Alexa either. Create an action to head to 24C at 6:30am and it only sets the mode to Heat, but not the temperature.

0/10 what a terribly designed app. The interface is horrible and it never works.

Useless app

My contractor suggested I download FirstAlert. Not sure why as it is not functional. I get to the Get started page and it doesn’t do anything. I tap to get started and it doesn’t do anything. I asked my son to try it and same for him. I guess it just makes Resideo look good as they have an app but it is useless. Don’t bother downloading it.

VX Cameras

The AI detection is pretty accurate and clip playback is very useful. Unfortunately the most important feature two-way talk is press & hold instead of a phone call like other Video doorbells and cameras. This makes the feature very clunky when trying to use it to talk to people. Hopefully this can be updated in the feature. Also the IR range on the cameras does not seem to be very far as well.

Terrible app

FirstAlert constantly logs you out and uses a splash screen to log you back in with no option to remember your log in info. I bet in the 6 months I’ve been using FirstAlert it has logged me about 20-30 times and I am not exaggerating. FirstAlert cycle reporting is not helpful at all. Setting a schedule is not intuitive at all and requires you to delete the schedule if you need to make a minor tweek.

It would be helpful to have an on demand heat button that was customizable
To raise the heat say, 2 or 3 degrees or run for 30 mins exc without pausing the schedule to the next interval. For example, you wake up in the middle of the night and your cold press the on-demand heat button for 30 minutes and go back to sleep without worrying about it keeping a constant temperature all night long which would require the furnace to cycle on and off.

Worse App

You cannot set the settings in FirstAlert like the thermostat. We use Celsius at home and FirstAlert only does Fahrenheit. At least the thermostat does Celsius. When using the vacation setting in app it takes 15 times to get the dates, times, and temp set right. Not made for a tablet either. Why do I need portrait orientation? Why when I log in does it complain 3 times that I don’t have notifications on. That is what I want. Stop asking.

No Geofencing and trouble registering T9 thermostat

FirstAlert does not seem to have the option to adjust my T9 thermostat using geofencing. FirstAlert description says it does. I have to switch back to the old Residio - smart home app, which is really disappointing. I had to factory reset my thermostat 4 times and have it fail to register several times to get it connected to this new app.

Response to developer’s response: Remove geofencing from your description or list it as a future feature and quit misleading people.

Celsius to farenheit

Where do we switch from C to f on FirstAlert ?? I’ve been looking everywhere and cannot find the switch. It’s driving me nuts! Please help

Follow up: I finally figured it out, if you iPhone is by default in Celsius it will show Celsius. There is no toggle switch within FirstAlert , which is terrible design. So to fix it, go to settings and at the top search « temperature » and the first option will show you what’s the iPhone preferred unit for temp, and you can switch to wherever you want.
The developers need to put a switch in FirstAlert , in the settings section.

Worst app

Takes lot of time to open and doesn’t connect properly. Have to restart app. Developer should focus on making changes to FirstAlert

Annoying alert & laggy sync

If you don’t turn notifications on in settings, you get 4 popups back to back every time you go into FirstAlert . It’s infuriating. FirstAlert also struggles to synch quickly. If I change my thermostat to auto, it won’t show until some random period of time later. Overall really disappointing and fails to come close to Nest or Amazon thermostat apps.

App broken

Had to switch back to the older app because it gives a “not registered” error when trying to add L1 sensors at the WiFi step

Response back to the developer: I had called tech support and had to go to the old app, it was never setup with any other app, it most definitely is a bug in your app. I reported the steps to reproduce so you can hopefully fix it

Face ID

Why does Face ID only work once in a while. I cannot find a way to set it to work every time. Latest update seems to have fixed the Face ID issue. But now it is NOT finding my thermostat. Added once and told me it was already registered. It did finally show up, TWICE. I removed one device and both were gone. Added it again today and it is not there again.

Latest update to this very frustrating app. Added the thermostat again. It now shows twice but only if you pull down to update.

Nice app!

FirstAlert looks good for having a smart home with lots of products! The only problem with me is I don’t have any of the products with FirstAlert downloaded. I think my life is broken today. Not sure.

FIXED: Can’t find a way to change units

I was finally able to change the units by changing the units in my phone’s settings.

Still would have been great if there was a way to change it in FirstAlert !

I’m giving it 5 stars because of the excellent customer service experience that I had with Mark. He kept me updated on this matter while finally coming up with the solution to update it in my phone’s settings.

I’ve been trying to find a way to change temperature units from C to F, but looks like there is no way to do that. Can’t find that option anywhere in FirstAlert .
