Poor instructions, hard to use

I’m a newbie, and this thing seems to assume that you’re an expert geocacher. Instructions are poor and very confusing. Plus I paid for it in good faith, and now it turns out that I’m not actually a premium member. Paying for Cachly gets you Cachly and 3 searches every 24 hours. If you want more searches, you have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee. No one told me that up front! Stinking thieves! The excuse they give is that the limit is a “third party restriction,” but they do not make this restriction clear up front, which is highly misleading. I repeat, stinking thieves! To make matters worse, most of the caches aren’t even there anymore yet they keep them on the map for seemingly forever. So you decide to hunt for a cache on the map, you select it as one of your three free ones, and then you have access to see all the details about the cache that tell you, guess what, the previous eight people all couldn’t find the cache so it’s almost certainly a waste of your time to hunt for it. Now you’re down to just the two free hunts, and there’s a large chance that the same issue will occur with them as well. Save your money. Really. I wish I had. I feel completely cheated.

Unusable without the premium subscription. $5 app for nothing. Would give 0 stars if possible.

I thought the $5 paywall to install Cachly was so that I could get premium geocaching benefits without paying the monthly subscription with the official geocaching app. Upon downloading it, I realized there was also a premium for Cachly. No problem, they probably want to make more money. I get it. But looking at the map I discovered I could only see traditional and event caches. Multi, mystery, or any other type of caches were unable to be seen unless through a direct search. I assumed this was a glitch since the thought that this was how this $5 app worked was laughable. But upon further digging I found that only premium members could see those types of caches. Why?? The basic geocaching app with my similarly free account can see multi caches, and even grayed out advanced caches. WHY IS THIS PAID APP WORSE THAN THE FREE ONE? I see zero benefit of Cachly over the official one. The fact that this has 5 stars is astounding to me. Don’t waste your money. Would give a zero if I could

Seems to work fine

I have been a premium geocacher for a very long time, but this is my first venture into caching with a smartphone. It has taken quite a bit of trial and error to get comfortable with Cachly. I have not found the user forums to be very helpful. this app will never replace my old-fashioned handheld gps unit, especially when caching in remote areas with a poor cell signal. But it is good when I just want to find one or two caches in an area. GPS burns too much battery life on the phone to use this for a full day of geocaching. Though this is supposed to be a paid app, I haven’t figured out where to pay for it. That basic information would be useful since I do support apps that are reasonably well designed.

Great App!

100 times better than the official app! Joshua the geocaching vlogger is the reason for my switch to Cachly. I thought I was perfectly content using a free app, until I finally gave in and paid the measly five dollars. My writing would be five stars if it wasn’t for the fact Cachly stops uploading geocaches after you’ve uploaded 1000 geocaches in a day. As a truck driver I spend my downtime scouring the maps looking for trucker friendly hides. Went through my thousands of loads in a short time last night, and now I can’t use the application to find any new caches until this evening. Other than that, thank you for a wonderful application!

Paid App Requires A Paid Subscription

Geocaching seems fun and interesting until you realize all the readily accessible means of accessing the hobby require paid subscription. I was hoping Cachly having a cost out of the gait wouldn’t be like the others but it is unfortunately worse.
The base and free geocaching app gives information on all basic caches with higher difficulty tiers only showing the location unless you pay the subscription. this app only gives basic information and the location of a cache. You can request the same information geocaching gives three times every 24 hours. The one benefit is there are some caches which geocaching does not show, though some that geocaching shows are not visible here meaning that slim benefit is essentially nonexistent.
Why in the world would anyone pay for Cachly if they could get more usage out of a free one?
I’m hoping I can get my money back simply out of principle of not paying a developer for this nonsense.

I Love Cachly!

Got Cachly shortly after I began caching in 2017, and I love it! I am not a power user, and am learning new things about it all the time. I especially love being able to attach photos to my personal cache notes. I enjoy hiding caches and use Cachly to create potential off-line caches, record notes and store photos of the locations, and create a list and map of the potential cache sites. The proximity circles also help locating potential new cache sites. The variety of available maps and satellite views also are very helpful. Now, I just need to keep on experimenting to see what else I can do with it.

Geocaching Necessity!!!

Hands down the best geocaching app. The waypoint averaging and access to multiple satellite maps is invaluable. The ability to edit logs and enable/disable caches is also a massive user friendly time saver.

My favorite feature over other apps are the red proximity circles around geocaches. That feature is ground breaking when trying to hide geocaches.

this app is developed with geocachers and grows and enhances the game in exponential ways!!! When you make the move to premium membership, do yourself a favor and make the move to this app.

Log Templates & Apple Watch Compatibility

The fact that you can have your standard text saved for that trip or day of caching and then add additional specific log for that one cache is an awesome feature. Before I was copying & pasting every time from a note on my phone since the iPhone copy paste memory seems to have gotten very short all of a sudden. Definitely worth the price with that feature alone. Add on to the fact that I can use Cachly on my brand new Apple Watch and it’s a no brainer.

Only App to use on iOS

Version 6. Nic has done it again! More fabulous capabilities making caching easier except perhaps actually finding the cache, certainly making it easier to get to GZ. With all the search abilities, picking a cache to chase down is better and easier.

this app has now replaced my GPSr in 95% of the time.

Thank You Nic for all you do to develop and support this app.

Cache On With this app!
4cycle

I’ve been caching for 7 years and have used at one time or another every app available for iOS devices. Geosphere was the top app until the developer stopped updating Cachly . Then came this app. So many features and a developer who is responsive and continues to add features. It takes awhile to figure out how to use all the features, but well worth the time. I still sit down now and then and play in Cachly and usually learn some new feature. I just can’t say enough how great Cachly is.

Cache On with this app!

The geocaching app I didn’t know I needed

I’ve been using this app for about a month now, and it has quickly become my favorite geocaching tool. I went ahead and purchased the pro version and the extra features are well worth it for me. I’m thoroughly impressed with it. I love that I can see my DeLorme and County maps and so many of the other features. As a designer and developer I tend to be picky and critical, but I think they’ve done a great job here and I can’t find anything to complain about. I rarely provide reviews but Cachly deserves the kudos.

Great app

After using Cachly for several years, my opinion remains the same. It is an excellent app, providing many advanced features. I am fortunate to travel abroad and the “translate” capability has been invaluable. In addition, the developers continue to add features that polish Cachly and make it easier to use.

Thanks ..

Initial review: I've been using the Groundspeak app for many years but it's going away so it was time for a change. Cachly is so much better than their new offering that the replacement app choice was easy. While navigating to the first cache using this app, I found that it integrates seamlessly with my preferred nav app, Waze .. an unexpected bonus. Cachly has everything I want and more.

The Only App I Use for Geocaching

Cachly does everything I want a geocaching app to do. Even some extras thrown in. I like the import from Dropbox option. Also like the option to find caches based on a bookmark list. Not a bad price for an app that does everything I want.

Edit to add that the developer has added many many new functions to Cachly , some I didn't even think I needed. A feature to easily see on the map which caches haven't been found yet, ability to upload many logs at once, advanced filtering of offline lists, and so many more. The developer is great at listening to his users and quickly resolved problems.

Best geocaching app by far

this app is the best $5 I’ve spent on an app ever. They update Cachly frequently and always add super awesome features. In my opinion this app’s greatest asset is their offline setting. I travel rather frequently and often to places with little or even no cellphone data far all. this app allows you to download thousands and thousands of geocaches into your offline list so you can still find geocaches when you don’t have cellphone service. Not only can you download the caches but you can also download all the log data and images so you have that for extra help too. this app is a must have for all geocachers. I can’t recommend them enough! Send them some love buy Cachly and tell your friends to buy it too, I have gotten a number of muggle friends to purchase Cachly and turned them into AVID cachers. Thanks for this cache... I mean APP! :)

The Best Caching App...By Far!

I’ve been an avid user of this app for many years and can say with confidence that this is hands down the best caching experience on the market! I’ve been enjoying this amazing hobby for almost ten years across most of the US and have never had to use anything but my iPhone thanks to Cachly. At this point the only reason to have the official geocaching app is for the message center.

Besides that, this app provides far superior functionality and features. The developer is fantastic in constantly adding to these features and always responds to any inquiries in a timings manner. I have recommended Cachly to everyone I know in the geocaching community and look forward to what future functionality will be implemented!

Big upgrade from geocaching app

I love Cachly a lot! It’s a lot more accurate than the free geocaching app. If you’re looking to get into the game more but you don’t have 300 dollars to get a good gps this is definitely the next best thing. Offline maps, waypoints for mulicaches, and being able to log my cache and trackable at the same time is amazing!

I want just one thing.. when you click on a cache that’s on the map and that preview bubble pops up saying the name and all that, can you add the 5 color dots for the last 5 logs so I don’t have to click into the cache to see if someone has found it or if the cache hasn’t been found in a long time. That would be really helpful because sometimes I forget to check get all the way out there and geocache is about to archive that cache.

Ty!

Everything I have Ever Needed in a Geocaching app!

Cachly has everything the "official" app has, but fortunately a lot more!

I love:
1) the integration of Google, Waze, or iPhone maps to give driving directions to the cache,
2) the responsive and smooth loading maps, over one DOZEN map sets available, including OFfLINE maps for most countries, all US states and Canadian provinces. The new premium maps have good topo and a lot more trails included! #cachlypremiummaps are a great investment of a few extra dollars!
3) a quick view of recent cacher success with green/red and date stamp, FTF indicators and a custom lonely cache feature,
4) and even the ability to load and share and create on this app and text to others custom .gpx files.
5) clicks COs linked name then hit hides to see a map of all caches by that owner that are currently active!
6) full cache data can be loaded for offline use.
7) highlighter tool has over 20 colors and each color can be custom named. For example the red highlighter I have titled “Y2K caches” and highlighted all Y2K caches globally. That way if I do a search of an area and one is within map view I can immediately see that it is nearby since it is highlighted!

This is a TOTAL replacement for the "standard" app. I Love it!

Somehow, it keeps getting better!

this app was already the best iOS Geocaching app out there, but it keeps getting better! The 6.0 release brought some great new features, in app travel bug scanning, quick map switching, and state restore which is the best feature a new user won’t ever notice. We all know how iOS frequently shuts down apps to divert memory to other apps when you switch, making you start over when you switch back to that app. Well now this app saves where you are in Cachly so after you cycle through the camera, the Adventures app, and then come back to this app, it’s in the state you left it. It may not sound exciting but it is a huge time and frustration saver.
I really don’t know how Cachly developer has the time to make all these great app enhancements, but I am so very glad he does.

Everything on my wish list

I resisted this app and used the standard app for years and but always wished it had a number of features. Especially when I started hiding more caches I finally took the plunge and started exploring and using this app and it has *everything* I’d been missing.

The gc app is great, especially for beginners, but this app offers so many useful tools- excellent trail maps, numerous filter options (including a way to filter caches not found by yourself and others- excellent for planning caching trips with friends), pin dropping on specific map locations and quickly linking to driving maps, coordinate conversion, trackable scanning and logging, the ability to make quick and through logs/drafts and include trackables and favorites and quickly add pictures. I could go on and on. It’s fantastic.

And the best part? The dev, Nicholas Hubbard, is extremely active and helpful and will continue to improve upon Cachly using suggestions and feedback directly from the users on FB. He will also quickly and directly respond to users who are looking for help, have questions, or have bug problems. That makes a huge difference and continues to improve the whole experience.

Great app, highly recommended.

The best option for caching on iOS

While I don’t mind the official app and think it works quite well for what it is…this app is that next step up. I’ve been a long time user of Cachly and am I huge fan of it. Auto trackable logging, projected waypoints, you can have lists show with different icons on your map, and use template logs for the big days with loads and loads of find. Cachly takes a lot of work and I know as of right now a CarPlay addition is not far off and that will be even more amazing. That’s why I don’t mind paying for a subscription, the developer puts a lot of work into this and should be compensated for his time. The only drawback for me is that it can do so much I’m sure I’ve only scratched the surface of everything this can do. If you’re thinking about it, get it, it’ll be worth it.

Great app and support

I was a bit intimidated by Cachly in the beginning. I kept using it because I liked the format better than the official app. I slowly started to learn some of its features. Then I discovered they have a user Facebook group. The developer is very interactive and all of the members are incredibly helpful and supportive. I’ve been using Cachly exclusively for about 2 years now, and I don’t even touch the official app except for messaging. Thank you this app team for your amazing support and the low cost is amazing! I cannot wait for v5!!! 😁
