I enjoyed Death’s Door on console and had every intention of playing it on mobile, but the Netflix subscription requirement is garbage. At least offer the option for players to purchase the game outright (á la Game Pass); surely that’s better than getting no money at all, which is what I’ll be shelling out to play Death’s Door on mobile until this terrible business model offers more player options.
Boring directionless hack and slash
I’m going to chalk this up to being on an iPhone SE, but this has some of the worst touch controls ever. It constantly goes in the wrong direction causing me to die or completely miss. Using a backbone controller has been the only way to enjoy the game, but it limits when I can play it. At least give us the option to increase the control sizes in accessibility.
Looks like a beautiful game, from the little I played.
Had trouble getting it to open. After uninstalling and reinstalling, it opened, but the button prompts are broken if you’re playing with a controller. It just lists “none” for every button prompt.
I’ll try playing it again after the bugs are fixed.
I expected the game to pair well with a 13 pro max and backbone controller (PlayStation model) but the framerate keeps lurching downward and none of the button prompts display properly (they all say “NONE”) - fix these things and I’ll give the game another go!
Performance is laggy even on an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Also, controller support is buggy. Will not get rid of on screen controls, and all the button prompts say “none” instead of the button.
Port Needs some work, the game itself is awesome.
Can’t even close my phone for 30 seconds before DeathsDoor resets for some reason. Lost a good chunk of progress because of that and now I lost all want to play the game
I just grabbed Death's Door for use with a Backbone One 2nd gen controller on my iPhone 15 Pro and old 11" iPad Pro. When using the Backbone controller with this game, the button labels for all controller within the game show up as "NONE" as if the game has no idea what controller is in use; however, the controller seems to work regardless (although I have no idea what buttons are for what since I've never played this one before). This seems specific to this game + the Backbone One controller because a) I've not seen this behavior with the Backbone in other games and b) the button labels show up properly in Death's Door when using other controllers, e.g. an Xbox controller. Please do the needful here and fix this. :). Cheers.
The game is good, but my complaint is the saving for the final boss. There might as well not be a save spot because you could die at the final gauntlet and get sent back to the first, which is really annoying.
Really, the whole saving mechanism is faulty throughout the game. I legit had to replay the ENTIRE game 4-5 times with different percentages because of the game crashing/and having to sign in repeatedly (never missed payment btw) .
I’ve gotten about a quarter of the way through every time I start and then when the game crashes or if my phone dies it loses all data.
It’s super fun up until that happens and you have to restart.
The virtual joystick is the worst I have ever seen in a mobile game, it’s too small and I find myself not moving because I’m a hairs width from the tiny joystick. At least add the option to change the size. Or add controller support.
This game runs at sub 30 frames per second on an iPhone 14 Pro. Also the controller icons remain on screen when using a Backbone. This port needed more time in the oven.
The game looks amazing and gameplay can be fun, but the game hitches and stutters every few seconds on 14 Pro Max. It’s in desperate need of a patch.
It’s an absolutely amazing game only problem is every time I try to fight the final boss he ends up going through the floor or over the edge of the map 1/10 times it isn’t the worst it’s just slightly annoying
It’s a beautiful game. Good gameplay, excellent art direction etc. my only issue is I keep getting kicked out and have to log back into my Netflix account to resume playing, which is a shame, because this game is great.
Gameplay is amazing, but even on an iPhone 14 Pro Max with the low graphic setting (Performance), the framerate is not smooth. It’s decent enough to play the game, but it’s bad enough that I notice it often.
i love this game, it's super fun and the concept is great. the only thing is that i cannot exit the inventory/weapons/setting menu. i do not think the X works?
It’s like old skool Zelda had a baby with Hollow Knight. The game setup is more Zelda-like, but the setting reminds me a lot of Hollow Knight with the music and graphical style. My biggest complaint is the game regularly crashes. And then I need to log back into Netflix every time to play. Not a huge deal, but it’s super clunky. Netflix, cache credentials for a period of time. Geez, what year is it?
I would put five stars but I didn’t so this could get some attention (hopefully)
This is a great game, the only problem I’m having is that whenever running, I’ll accidentally drag my finger over the menu button. This happens a lot, so it’s kinda annoying
Great game!
Liking the game so far, but it needs full controller support.
PLEASE! I can’t take dying from missing the button I tried to press anymore or I will go buy a pizza
I am in love with this game! Everything about it is great except the bug when connected with a controller. I am using the Backbone One controller and every time there is a tutorial it says press “None” to complete the action and does not specify which control it is referring to. I have to play around and guess the controls myself. Please fix this!
As mentioned by others, the game randomly boots me out to the Netflix login screen. It’s incredibly annoying. The gameplay is incredible when not being interrupted.
Netflix, you wonderful buggers.
I’ve been playing this game on my Switch for the past year and a half. It is definitely my favorite indie game of all time. So when I heard that Netflix was bringing it to mobile devices I was like “UWAHH?!?!” This is the last thing I would have expected from Netflix, but BOY am I happy they did it.
This review is more about the mobile gameplay than the actual game. The game is incredible and I highly recommend it, especially if you like Zelda or Dark Souls.
Look, I’m a Switch player. I don’t play mobile games. But I just HAD to check out Death’s Door on mobile. The mobile gameplay is surprisingly smooth. I still struggle with it, but I’ll adapt eventually. This is just a me thing. The game’s performance is slick and has virtually no problems. Aaaand that’s pretty much it.
To summarize, Death’s Door is an amazing game and this mobile port is surprisingly great. Thank you Netflix, my respect for you has risen.
i was a little doubtful when i saw netflix was first making games, but after playing OXENFREE (which i suggest you check out as well) i became more believing. this game looked like fun, and im always for playing a little guy. it definitely held up to expectations. the controls took a little time to master, and story was not immediately clear, but as i continued playing it i came to really appreciate it. at first glance it just seemed like a simple, ‘do this, collect that, fight that,’ linear story-line, but it soon unfolded to be much more complex. i love that each level follows a similar guideline, but are quite diverse in their own way. the boss fights are delightfully challenging, as are the puzzles along the way. guys, THE PUZZLES. LOVE THEM. i did need a little help from game guides twice or so, but the solutions were so amazingly simple in hindsight i could only be laugh at myself for not seeing them. PLAY THIS GAME IT’S SO GOOD. even after you beat the final boss, there is still SO MUCH TO DO. love it! thank you so much!
The game was so amazing. And I wish there were more. When you guys make the next one. Will you plz let me know.
The game’s puzzle and story line made my 48 hours a bliss. This game is amazing and should be awarded for their creativity and hardwork.
Cheers to Team Acid Nerve 🍻 🥳🍾🎊🎉
I just 100% this game, it took me 19 hours. This is a perfect mobile game. It’s just challenging enough, the story and theme is great. The action and puzzles are amazing. I especially love the boss fights. My favorite part was having the expectation that this is a simple mobile game, and just discovering new secrets, magic, items, and even a post game that made this game way better than I could have hoped. I recommend playing with a Bluetooth controller (my Switch Pro Controller worked great), but the touch controls are good enough if you don’t have one.
Reminds me of the golden age of 2d Zelda presented in a modern package. Button prompts don’t display correctly for my backbone controller, but controls are intuitive enough to figure out (although not customizable). No clue how the touch experience is but I’d imagine it’d be hard. I need a plushy of the player crow now.
Netflix is killing it with these games, they have been dropping console-quality games on mobile with cloud saves that seems to work perfectly.
Death’s door is a neat little indie game, it only released on PC/console just a couple of years ago. It’s kind of souls-like/hack and slash game with an isometric perspective. It’s very fun, somewhat challenging as you progress through the game. The art direction is excellent and the sound design is quite good as well.
I was very, very pleased to see that my Razer Kishi V2 worked on my 12 Pro Max. All mobile games should support controllers, but unfortunately most do not. I am just happy this one does. There is also a graphics setting, on my iPhone and M1 iPad, there was a “balanced” mode and a “performance” mode. The balanced mode is clearly higher resolution, with performance mode looking soft and less detailed. I tested the game on a budget phone and only the performance mode was available, so some older iPhones/iPads may be the same and not support the better looking balanced mode.
I love seeing proper console games shipping on mobile with controller support AND graphics option. Keep it up Netflix!
Really great! Btw, you can change the positions of the controls and menu button using the gear icon in the menu, then select reposition controls.
The graphics, the brilliant music, it’s all fantastic.
I’ve been playing for days. I like going back once you get a new ability and finding all the hidden areas and items.
Really captivating.
I play the game on my iPad pro 11 inch and Of course I am play the game with controller because so hard play with touch controller because the iPad big screen
But unfortunately, the touch control does not disappear when I play on controller
Really fun game. 10/10 world birb again.
Love this game. Only thing missing is support for the backbone game library
Absolutely loving what I’ve played so far (1hr in). It works with a backbone, just seems to freak out the button prompts. It will show “no ne” instead of the button. Not a huge deal just makes learning a little more difficult.
Very cool mood this game sets. Combat is enjoyable with controller and the world is interesting to me.
Anyone complaining about this game is an idiot since the real price is $25 for a game that’s better than 95% of $60 games, but on mobile it’s FREE there is literally no complaints for this Masterpiece that’s FREE on mobile, I would honestly pay $70 for this game thats how perfect it is. If you disagree, GET A JOB‼️😭🙏
This is probably the best game Ive have ever played
This game hits every criteria, amazing graphics, amazing visuals, the story, npcs, and bosses I love this game I recommend it if you like Legend of Zelda
ITS SO COOL!!! Also the first boss was so tough but I finally beat it!!!!! Also could you give me a hint on beating the part in the lost cemetery where the enemies are coming out of the portal door thingys?
Never played it on console. Works great on my 13 pro max. No issues at all. Would be nice if I could play it on apple tv with a controller. If you like rogue like action games this is a hit!
Netflix going out and adding these indie games is a killer idea. Honestly making the increase to my monthly worth it if they keep adding games like this.
This game was fun, challenging at times (all though sometimes because of touch screen more than anything else) had a good amount of story to progress things but mostly action and tasks. Fun secrets to uncover and a good amount of post “final” boss material to get you a more full ending. Honestly loved it and feel like it completed well and was fun.
