BOOK WALKER – Manga & Novels Reviews

this app app is decent; however, sometimes when i try to read through a light novel BOOKWALKER will suddenly crash and once i reopen BOOKWALKER , the this app logo would appear for a few min until BOOKWALKER crashes. This process would happen everytime i reopen BOOKWALKER . Restarting my phone would sometime fix this issue, but the problem still occur even after restarting my phone for 50% of the time. Overall BOOKWALKER is decent. I would give this app a higher rating, if only the crashes wouldn’t happen so often.

I really like this app as I can integrate and view my purchased items from all its three sites (Taiwan, global, and Japan) in one single app. BOOKWALKER itself, however, definitely needs a lot of improving. Typography is really badly designed. I hope BOOKWALKER could support more fonts and allow for more reading options such as line spacing. I understand it is common to read a Japanese book that is vertically aligned, but since Japanese do read horizontally aligned books, I wish BOOKWALKER could support horizontal alignment as well.

Gotta hand it to manga and LNs for rocking, and Kadokawa (book walker) for being a real part of that. BOOKWALKER works but is not intuitive. I think it has real potential if sufficient attention is paid. Getting bookshelf skins for your franchise is great fun tho. Hope to see more development of this!

Books should be easier to arrange and display, similar to Kindle/iBooks

The “store” page of BOOKWALKER just tells me to go the browser version of the store, so I apparently have to buy through the browser and then pull BOOKWALKER back up to read. The loading times in BOOKWALKER are also long and tedious, even for just switching tabs. I don’t know what the other versions are like, but the iPad version is near unusable. Also, books are not DRM free. Always a negative in my book. Anyway, I will happily update my review if they fix any of these features because this app as a service is pretty decent.

The iOS app requires you to open a safari web page to browse through this app’s selection of books and to view what’s in your cart for purchase, but the link to open the this app web page from BOOKWALKER doesn’t take you to the this app website at all. I’ve tried this with Safari and Firefox on my iPad and it doesn’t seem to work at all.

I suspect that the iOS app and the this app website itself are not optimized for mobile devices.

Luv BOOKWALKER. If there’s one complaint, it’s just that I have to keep re-signing back in to read my books after something of a month or so. Wished it worked kinda like how Facebook does their log in via app. But I would love it if they expanded more and had books from Korea and Thailand too. I like BOOKWALKER since its a good way to support the authors too I think.

Honestly while reading the books BOOKWALKER is fantastic, zero complaints there.

But the UI!!! I mean it got better with that last major update but it is still just so hard to navigate purchased books!

Also I would love to see an integration with the English book store. That one might have some weird logistics issue that makes it impossible, but I would bump the rating up to 5* immediately even completely ignoring the UI issues if y’all could swing that.

A bit rough around the edges, but I don’t think you’ll find a better experience anywhere else. BOOKWALKER comes from Japan, not some Western company trying to inject wokeness into every product they can get their hands on. So rest assured this is one of the best ways to support Japanese manga directly.

BOOKWALKER itself is a great concept and useful, but for someone who is beginner-intermediate, the available Japanese and Japanese-English dictionaries are very insufficient. Around a third of the words (and even sometimes individual kanji) aren’t in the dictionary. This is near ridiculous.

The dictionaries also do not contain slang or everyday language and require you to find the, yourself. Please improve this - your dictionary is sub-par.

Honestly after hearing so much about this service I was expecting a higher standard of quality. There needs to be more options in font and format settings and the background colors are awful. Editing paragraph spacing, being able to continuously slide down, and just some other general ease of use options would be greatly appreciated.

I'd be great if I could just read these in the iBook app.

Service is good, however, the UI and UX need some work. The auto download feature never worked for me. Some settings and their descriptions are not clear. Many elements in BOOKWALKER does not follow typical iOS design guidelines. Also, the keyboard on iPad is not supported.

BOOKWALKER is pretty slow and it’s kinda annoying that you still need to use a web browser to buy things even though you have an app, but other than that it’s a pretty solid app with fair prices.

I wish it had a better user interface for putting books on you selves. They could use comiXology’s app for reference.

I like BOOKWALKER but there are a couple of things that needs tweaking every week?hopefully keep it updated and get dark mode for BOOKWALKER ! It’s a MUST ASAP.

I study Japanese, so I like having a wide variety of things to read. BOOKWALKER has lots of different manga, novels, and magazines available. You can even download some free volumes! Unfortunately, some things can't be purchased from outside of Japan which is a bummer. Overall, I've been very pleased!

Great way to support your favorite mangaka. BOOKWALKER allows to organize the manga and light novels you bought in a nice virtual bookshelf. Support your creators! They need to eat too! ^~^

I love BOOKWALKER , but I wish that we can buy books from BOOKWALKER and use money from iTunes. Overall love the books.

BOOKWALKER used to work for me about a year ago, i went to re open it because i just bought a new book from y’all and it doesnt work. Ive closed and reopened multiple times. Ive let it sit open. Nothing works. Hope to hear back from yall on how to fox it. I have iphone xr

Every time I try to open it, BOOKWALKER crashes. I can’t even begin to read the books I’ve bought on. Wish I’d read the reviews on BOOKWALKER before wasting my money on their books.

You cant even access the US store within BOOKWALKER , and instead are directed to a google home page with instructions to google this app globlal if you want to browse the store. Very very extremely stupid.

The Authorization thing is really annoying although I typed in my password about 14 times it still wouldn’t let me get anything or do anything

兎に角使いづらい、次のページが表示されるまでラグがある、上と下にあるアプリの項目が非表示に出来ない、日本のサイトでは¥480の物が¥780になってる。
Horrible aplication, have a lag when go to the next page, dont have any way to hide a aplication source when was reading and the price is different in japan site(¥480) and the price in this aplication(¥780)

I can’t sync accounts across my iPhone and iPad. App won’t let me login on the other device. The only option is to register.

App seems poorly optimized for iOS.
No integration with app store purchases for books.
Limited control over fonts, sizing, etc.
No integration of English global shop.
Just use Safari to see global site.
UI is kind of clunky.
Fan light novel apps are better made than this.
Pretty disappointed overall seeing this come from such a big company, but also not surprised.

I used BOOKWALKER to reset my password and it wouldn’t go back to the login screen when I tap the “back” button

App crashes after showing the book walker logo and then a black screen.

Finally! An app where I can buy Japanese ebooks. Fantastic! The only function that's missing is a built in dictionary like iBook has. That would make this a 5 star app..

Was actually interested in reading some titles after hearing about this in NYCC, but BOOKWALKER doesn't even work and I'm STILL trying to figure out how to freaking spend my money and actually buy a book. Unbelievably confusing UX and painful UI -- unfortunately there are no negative stars to give here. Get your S$&@ together Kadokawa...

Can't really navigate around BOOKWALKER because I have to have an account of some sort (and because everything you see is in Japanese...).

Is there any way for me to change it to an English version????!!!
