Cannot find Downloaded magazines

2022-05-23

So I finally subscribed to the digital subscription. I love the archive section and being able to view any magazines at a click of a button. Unfortunately when I click on the downward arrow to download the article, the article clearly showing the download process but can’t seen to find it anywhere on my iPad Pro. After contacting Apple support they suggested to reach out the developer and resolve the issue directly with them. So is anyone else experiencing downloading issue such as not knowing where the downloaded files reside?

Options far too confusing

2022-06-24

They have the most bizarre business model I've ever seen. They advertise this digital subscription, another one through their website, back issue access through their website that overlaps with both digital subscriptions, with app access via at least one of the options in their website, or one can get a combination with no clue as to what can be accessed through BiblicalArchaeologyReview as opposed to their website. I was a long-time print subscriber. I have a Ph.D. but couldn't figure out their options. In addition, their app took too long to load. As a result, I haven't read this publication in several years.

Useless app

2022-07-25

I have a paid subscription through the BAS website fo a digital edition. BiblicalArchaeologyReview lets me log in fine, but when i try to read an issue, the download progress bar loads for 10 minutes or so, then upon completing resets to empty. Impossible to read a magazine I paid for.
Do not buy this magazine on a tablet. If they can't get their app to be even barley functionnal it means they don't respect you as a customer. If this is not resolved fast I´canceling my subscription.

Cannot access

2022-08-26

Paid for this through Apple. When I try to access, I cannot. I have not been able to access this for 6 months. Apparently I have a user name and password that I don’t know about and I do not know of a way to retrieve it. I like BAS a lot but I think I may subscribe to the magazine and not the digital version. I would rate higher if I could read the digital content...until then, 1 star because I cannot give 0 stars.

New version doesn't work

2022-09-27

Why is it that every time someone gets the idea to "improve" their app, they only manage to screw it up and make it worthless. The older version of BAR on my old iPad worked fine. I got a new iPad and installed the new BAR app. Now I can't download any issues. I thought my subscription might have expired, so I renewed it. But I still cannot get BiblicalArchaeologyReview to let me access the issues. It still thinks I must subscribe first.

Disappointed

2022-10-28

The website is a total mess, trying to get you to subscribe art every turn. Only a limited number of issues available on the tablet. When trying to access older articles the site directs to subscribe. Could not access even from web browser when logged into my account.

Doesn’t work!

2022-11-29

I just subscribed, and BiblicalArchaeologyReview keeps telling me to subscribe. “Restoring the purchase” does NOTHING. Please fix this. Why don’t you folks test BiblicalArchaeologyReview before you put it on BiblicalArchaeologyReview Store? Reading all the other reviews makes it clear that you broke BiblicalArchaeologyReview in your latest update. I wish I had read them BEFORE I subscribed. Please fix ASAP.

Very Poor

2022-12-30

I paid the subscription only to obtain an article from 1983. But BiblicalArchaeologyReview keeps sending me back in a never ending loop.
- finally - after 1/2 hour I get to read it
But BiblicalArchaeologyReview does not allow to print
- TOTALLY WORTHLESS. !!!!

Horrible Navigation

2023-01-31

BiblicalArchaeologyReview is worthless. I have logged on and subscribed to everything, but it does not allow me to search. It keeps asking me to log on.

The digital version is awful!

2023-03-04

I have a subscription on another device and can’t even sign-in on a new device.

App no longer works

2023-04-02

Cannot even read previously downloaded content. Please fix ASAP!

Disappointing

2023-05-04

BAR is a great magazine. I've been a regular reader and subscriber for over 25 years. I've tried the iPad version for the last year and the experience has been disappointing. The magazine is the same great quality and it's not hard to read or navigate on iPad. The problem is that the iPad seems to periodically forget that I have a subscription. This renders ALL of the material inaccessible without additional payment. Additionally, magazines do not become permanently available. It's the difference between buying a magazine and buying the right to look at one. As far as I'm concerned, this is a deceptive practice. Even when it is working, the magazines require periodic re downloading. I cannot tell you how many times I would try to read a copy on a flight, only to discover that it was unavailable because there was no internet connection. (After already having been downloaded previously) even issues that I purchased singly are now unavailable.
There are real issues with how this works. Until those issues are resolved, it might not be a good purchase.

subscription price

2023-06-04

Ok, I’m sort of confused as to why the digital subscription is MORE expensive than the print subscription.

Secondly, I don’t know why the publisher can’t just allow a paid subscription to allow print subscribers to also be able to download the digital editions. Other magazines offer this...

Terrible

2023-07-06

Logged in fine, but when I try to access any sort of function it takes me to an instruction screen that will not close no matter what I tap. Impossible to read the magazine. I feel I got scammed

5 stars for content, 3 stars for app

2023-08-06

As a student, having access to the content digitally it great! BiblicalArchaeologyReview currently works for me, although its interface could use some polish.

The most important part is that I can access the content and is why I’ve rated the content and BiblicalArchaeologyReview separately.

Good magazine, pretty good app

2023-09-07

BAR is a brilliant magazine and kudos for creating a decent app to carry and read it electronically on our devices. My main gripe is that with this initiative, back issues are no longer available on Logos Bible Software. Could the makers of BAR please consider releasing for archival purposes the issues of BAR once they are past a certain age? Logos is much more powerful than the BAR iOS app and also the BAR website.

Controversial, but illuminating

2023-10-09

I have been an avid reader for over thirty years and I never get tired of the controversies on different subjects that appear in its pages. As in all scholarly endeavors, people should agree to disagree and keep exploring the subject. There will never be consensus on discerning what happened in the past, and more importantly, why it happened. However, near eastern archaeology does tend to support the Old and New Testaments more and more with each passing season and BAR continues to publish vital evidence.

Don't let the low rating fool you

2023-11-09

I subscribed to BAR in 1994 and I love this periodical. They have given me a year free digital subscription for renewing my subscription. I created my account with BAS, and I run BiblicalArchaeologyReview on my iPhone and iPad. Apps on both devices work well. I will explore more and report back, but so far, where ever I have one of my devices (and the internet), I have every copy of BAR.

One last thing. If anything would make it better I would love to see the search engine work for subject searches, not just title searches. So, if I want to read articles about the book of Isaiah and archeology related to Isaiah, I just search for it.

Dr. Cargill, please keep up the great work!

Wonderful magazine

2023-12-11

I am a former subscriber to BAR. I had let my subscription lapse because I found out an elderly neighbor was taking my copies from my mailbox to read and not returning them to me and I didn't want to turn an 88 year-old person in for prosecution. I felt letting my subscription lapse was an easier method of punishment. I am now renewing it because I can download it directly onto my iPad and not miss any more issues. I always found the BAR to be very informative with good articles. I may not always agree with the articles, but reading other points of view is always welcome and gives pause for thought.

Please, keep-up the good work!

Outstanding archaeological publication

2024-01-11

BAR is by far the most objective and critical publication available today. Mr. Shanks sets the tone for an unapologetic and dedicated effort to access, discuss and analyze data from nearly every spectrum. I especially enjoy BAR's practical approach toward unproven arced relics and the application of commercial protection of sites by allowing the sale of certain types of unremarkable and plentiful artifacts - rather than putting them in dark where their lack of value and interest insures nothing more than more storage buildings and no scholarly or public benefit. If you want to know how it is, BAR is the place to learn about it.
