2023 and Milepost Charges For This?

Come on Milepost, I purchase your book then have to pay for a half-baked app that only works when I have internet service-IN ALASKA, REALLY? Please have your team step away from their desks and make something that really works and is helpful when traveling around Alaska WITHOUT INTERNET! I and many others would be willing to pay for something like that. ……until then Google or Apple Maps is more helpful, and they are free.

Useless on the road in Canada and Alaska.

As the other raider said TheMILEPOST is useless when traveling on the Alaska Highway in Canada or in Alaska. Since it does not go to the device and you need Internet connectivity to use TheMILEPOST you cannot use it while you're traveling.

The actual book is frustrating enough in trying to go against the flow of the direction of the book. You would think on an app they could turn that direction around which ever way you are traveling. I would rate TheMILEPOST in the negative if I could.

They are obviously trying to make money without doing anything innovative to useful to actually help a traveler.

Misleading advertising

Can’t use the digital. Bought the book with the idea that will have access to the digital version, but apparently you have to pay again,. Your advertising implies digital version access when buy the book ,,!,,,

Can’t log in

Bought the book and wanted TheMILEPOST for easy access on the drive. Logged in to the website and created an account which led me to TheMILEPOST . Downloaded TheMILEPOST and now can’t log in with my information making TheMILEPOST useless since I’m not paying a second time.

Can’t even login / No support

Login works fine for website, login does not work for app, cannot reset password. Emailed support - absolutely NO response. Don’t waste your time. The developers of TheMILEPOST have never been required to use it since it does not work.

You took something perfect and killed it.

* Requesting a full refund*

Having driven up and down the AlCan 8 times in the past 30 years, it's been a staple to use the milepost, a hi-liter, and then reach out to the locals along the way for updates.

Why in God's name would you build an app that maps the wilderness of Canada and Alaska that NEEDS to use the internet?

Your app was replaced by a free map at the Stewart cutoff from a very friendly local.

I TRIPLE DOG DARE you to travel to Alaska using your own ap.

Don’t wast your time.

Just read the rest of the reviews. Can’t even log in to get started. Online login to the digital version does not work either. Stick with the printed book.

Terrible. Do not buy

The Milepost is a great resource but they should be ashamed of this product. Very expensive and does not download. Completely worthless. I am so angry and want my money back.

It's 2022 and still can't log in

Same as another reviewer, I bought the book and was anticipating the convenience of using TheMILEPOST . The web-based version of the book is not worthwhile. But even though I can log in to view that no problem, I can't log into TheMILEPOST , so that's a disappointment.

App - 1, The Milepost - 5

!!! WARNING !!!
Do not use the Bookmark feature as it causes TheMILEPOST to crash! Don't know why - it just does.

I downloaded TheMILEPOST six times. The first four times I didn't put together why TheMILEPOST would crash. On the fifth, I noticed everything worked fine until I tried adding Bookmarks. After doing several bookmarks everything seemed OK, so I closed my iPad & re-started & tried opening the Milepost again but once again found TheMILEPOST crashed. On the sixth download I have abandon the Bookmark feature & haven't crashed since. So, heed my warning. Install but don't use Bookmarks!

The Milepost itself is great. It took about 50 minutes for my 5mbs Internet service to download the 798 page app. Upon opening The Milepost app you'll notice a blue highlight over the caption - 21" x 31" pull-out " Plan-a-trip map. Tap that & a pdf map opens that doesn't lose detail when you zoom in for higher detail. Tap the screen & some quick access icons appear at the bottom of the screen. I use Thumbs instead of TheMILEPOST killing Bookmark feature. Page 1 is the Contents page. Just hold your finger tip on the page number you'd like to jump to & you're there in a flash! Everything that's in the big book is in TheMILEPOST. Overall, I give The Milepost a 5.

Terrible!

As others have pointed out the Milepost is actually a great resource! TheMILEPOST however is a total waste of time and money and a borderline scam. I bought the paper version because it was advertised to have also include an e-version, which I (wrongly) assumed I could load on my iPad and have it available while offline, My iPad is wifi only, so even if there were cellular coverage TheMILEPOST would still be 100% useless while traveling. iOS 8 has been out since last September, but TheMILEPOST was last updated 14 months ago. It's pretty obnoxious that they want to charge a premium for TheMILEPOST, but do absolutely NOTHING to keep it bug free and up to date. If it were free I'd still be deleting it. Avoid TheMILEPOST at all costs until they get it together and stop taking advantage of us!

Not Much

The paper version contains so much data, that it quickly becomes mental overload, and pages start falling out. Decided to try TheMILEPOST , figured it at least wouldn't fall apart like the book. Kinda works on the iPad, but won't download to my phone, telling me I haven't purchased it. Doubt if it would be much use on the iPhone anyway, printed to small, to much data on a page. NOTE I use the word "data" instead of "information".

Disappointed...loading issues!!

We bought TheMILEPOST a couple of days before our dream vacation to Alaska. We rented a RV for 21 days and planned on driving all over the interior and Kenai Peninsula. We expected the Milepost to tell us everything about these areas, but unfortunately most of the time we could not get it to load.

We had to keep stopping and reloading TheMILEPOST and most times it took six to seven tries before it finally came up. By then we made decisions without the help of the Milepost. We just kept getting a message that stated "Loading Issues" and it would freeze up.

Also, we found that when we were able to get it to load, some of the information was out of date. The listed campground fees are $5-7 more than what is listed in the Milepost and we discovered when we drove to some of the advertised RV parks, they had been closed for several years. We had the 2010 hardcopy of the Milepost and were excited to purchase the 2012 app for my iPad to use on our trip. However, overall we were pretty disappointed with it and found it to be of some, but limited use.

Misleading… But a good handy app

Just for clarity…. TheMILEPOST is free… But you still have to "purchase" the book to open TheMILEPOST . That's $20-Thank you ….. Just so you know. Plus… TheMILEPOST may not work properly all along the Al-Can (if you're driving) because of limited to NO SERVICE. Poor Internet service = Poor app. With that said, it's helpful to have the e-version. TheMILEPOST does what it's suppose to do… give you information on the rich and glorious history in both Canada and Alaska. It's nice and tidy and convenient. You can plan your daily journeys the night before (while you are in a town or hotel with WiFi) and be prepared for what's ahead. I would "bring up" the next days map and pages and have those available for quick reference. I found once I was on the road TheMILEPOST would open to the last location, but not be able to load more information. So, you just have to "work around" that little glitch. The Milepost its self is invaluable. Whether it's in the super thick, kill a forest, city phone book size or TheMILEPOST version. Any and every one traveling to Alaska needs the Milepost….. It's like American Express…
"Don't leave home without it".

Seems to work now

It looks like they have fixed some of the issues folks had with TheMILEPOST. I just downloaded the guide onto my iPad 4. It took perhaps five minutes to download over a high speed connection. TheMILEPOST crashed a few times before the download started and once while I was using it, hence the four stars, but now seems to be stable. I put the iPad in airplane mode to confirm that it works without an Internet connection and it seems to be working fine. This is definitely easier to deal with for a person who will only be using it on occasion. Give it a try. The information is fantastic.

Great app

Not convince on the negative reviews. I downloaded TheMILEPOST and the book with no problem and I am able to use it with out any internet connection. The detail on TheMILEPOST says you have to let it download without interruption otherwise you will need to have internet to use it. Just let download before you go thru the pages. Great book to have for travel planning

Great app

Glad this finally arrived just in time for my trip

I have installed the new version and it seems to have corrected the bugs that existed in the first release. TheMILEPOST contains a lot of Great and Useful information. Hopefully the issues from the original version have been corrected and everyone that did not have a positive experience will give it another try. Dave with the Milepost has worked with me and answered every question I have ask and replied to every e-mail I have sent. Dave even sent me a printed copy. Both versions are very informative, however the electronic version is the one I will use ! Dave and Team, thanks for all the help, and a Great Job with this publication, I know this is a tremendous amount of work.

Thanks once again for all the assistance.

Works fine

Not sure about all of the negative reviews. I made my purchase, downloaded the book waiting until it was completely downloaded as stated in TheMILEPOST description. I then turned off wifi on my iPad. All is good. I can navigate and read the book. Much better than lugging a 700 page book on my motorcycle.

I do wish it had a text reading mode like most digital magazines. Still worth it.

Fantastic app!

Consider this mini review positive as I have no reason to expand on all the wonderfully written positive reviews already mentioned, plus I'm lazy ;-)

I'm fortunate to have been given the opportunity to move to the "interior" of Alaska via a job transfer and have found TheMILEPOST to offer the best "all in one" source of information offered from any single source of information I've found for a newbie wanting to learn much of the in's and out's of the entire state.

Thanks for bringing such a fantastic resource to the iPad!!

Truly the bible of North Country travel!

Takes awhile to download this 798 page travel guide, but once it has WOW! Has so much information. Can't imagine needing any other source for traveling the 14,000+ miles of roadways of western Canada and Alaska. I love all the links to the businesses and attractions throughout the pages. Great photos and wonderful maps make this travel guide and trip planner a delight to use.
