Long-time user now stuck with mediocre “Lite” Version

I’ve had this app for over 5 years and have used the currency in multiple countries (e.g. China, Mexico, Canada, Italy, Ireland, etc). I also used this app mainly to convert units of measurement while cooking. Now, I find out that even though I have been a loyal user across many years, I am stuck watching ads before I can even select a unit of conversion. I don’t mind an occasional ad banner or two, but when you’re traveling to areas with low poor connection, it makes a world of difference. It is also frustrating to know that the privileges I had a free member are now available for a price in the App Store, since it is now required to pay to go beyond the “Lite” version. I had the app before there was a Lite version, and have been a loyal user through many changes and updates. This is not a good way to retain users, and frankly, I’m not sure I want the app anymore. This has left a bad taste in my mouth.
What’s with increase in advertising?

UPDATE: I’ve had enough. Deleting this app because of the massive increase in advertising.
I have used this app for a couple years to convert measurements for the installation manuals I produce. While using it today, I’ve noticed a huge increase in advertising that covers the entire app, some of which cannot be closed for a period of time. Look, I get that this is the lite version and advertising is the way you make money. But there’s a tipping point. If this level of advertising continues, I will drop my rating to 1 star. I will delete the app and find something else. That may be a paid app, but it won’t be yours.
No Way to X Out of Ads!!!

Having to watch a short ad before using a free app is fair enough. But, the ads have been growing longer and more annoying. Today, the last straw: There is no “X” at the corner or other way to shut off the ad. It just keeps repeating. I guess that’s supposed to force me to buy the ad-less version.
It’s just a units converter, and there are dozens of others to choose from. I’m outa here!
(I expect a reply from the developer that states nothing has changed.)
