The best no BS straight down to business Guitar Techniques

I’ve purchased all guitar mags and even though we all look at the ads most of them are beefed up ads with no real content. This mag is the best one out there I know of. Every issue is packed with loads of guitar riffs and techniques. I’d have to say this is the best guitar mag for any guitar player.

If You Are Serious!

I just discovered this magazine. I am so impressed. If you are a guitarist at any level, this will make you better, if you practice. The videos, the jam tracks, the analysis and the fun you will have makes it a must have for all guitarists!

GT is the best Guitar Mag!

Guitar Techniques is the best instructional magazine published in English. (Young Guitar Japan is also great, but obviously is in Japanese).

In the US, Guitar Player is mostly fluff, and Guitar World thinks so poorly of its audience that it doesn't even print music above TAB.

GT is loaded with licks, lessons, and full songs from cover to cover. GuitarTechniques provides playback and occasional video for each example. Its an amazing learning tool!

I would love to see a desktop OS X version of GuitarTechniques - so we can read it on the big screen :)

Great Teachings

I really like the way they teach you how to play, not just tones. it is a great magazine to learn from.

App does not work if you purchased digital through any other vendor

Garbage. Bought a digital download through Zinio. The zinio reader will not play audio examples. Even though I subscribe to this magazine, I can’t use the zinio subscription on GuitarTechniques. Will never be able to utilize audio examples. Bitter disappointment. Avoid GuitarTechniques and this company.

Bassman42

Great magazine. Use it everyday for a portion of my practice sessions. Mitch Dalton’s column is very funny and right on point.

I love the audio and video features

Guitar Techniques is a great monthly online subscription, I find myself reading from cover to cover and playing along with the song transcriptions backups and lessons with audio and videos. The ability to resize the screen while concentrating on a part or to hear the part played with full backing track is invaluable to me for keeping up my playing chops and learning new techniques.

I had been buying the newsstand magazine until I discovered the iPad version, now that I subscribe to the online version I can keep a large amount of the magazines on my iPad or archive my collection and call them back up when I need to look at them again. I save space when I am on airplane trips across country as I can use my iPad for an amp and play along with the magazine through headphones wherever I am.

Raised the bar

After 45 years of playing I've become bored with 99% of the "educational" material available, finding most to be "quick buck" rehashes of stuff that's been repeatedly cloned (and if that sounded redundant- it was supposed to). Guitar Techniques, however, seems to find a fresh twist in almost everything they present. A bonus is rather than dumping endless repetitions of licks on us, their material has a point to it and a focus - but without being limited to a single style. Well worth the very reasonable price, even to us "old dogs" who think we've been buried under every possible page of tab that could possibly ever be published! Highly recommended!

Great magazine great app

First let me say I also get the paper edition of the magazine delivered to my house and I use GuitarTechniques as a companion for that. But I love it. I look forward to it coming each month, although it is always a few months behind I suppose because it comes from
England. Anyway I think the magazine is extraordinary. You could study each one for months or maybe years. Also, unlike the previous reviewers, I have never had problem with the backing tracks or the sound.

Awesome publication

I remember the first time reading this magazine at the Borders magazine rack - and picking up my only print copy for $15! Now on the iPad for $40 a year?

There is so much guitar lesson content in each issue. I am a professional guitarist and teacher, and it takes me a while to get through most of an issue. It's a great difficulty level for the more advanced student wanting to get a very broad skill-set and familiarity with the instrument. I would enjoy if the slight blues/rock default tendency were toned down a bit and more acoustic and different world styles were brought in more often.

But each magazine issue leaves you more satisfied than 90% of the guitar "books" that are out there. And big props for including the left hand fingering on most of the standard notation. Would be better if they included position markings as well, for those trying to wean themselves off of tab.

That fifth star would be if they add in a more interactive music player, with slow-down capability, and the ability to zoom in on the tab when in the player.

Best guitar mag ever

Whenever I head to my local bookstore and check out the new issues of all the guitar magazines they're all 90% fluff and 10% actual content.

This magazine is the exact opposite. There are so many amazing lessons in every issue. From theory to fully tabbed songs to practice licks and phrases.

I love the playable tab and videos that are incorporated in the issues now. Also the price point is much more friendly through newsstand. It's a win all around. If you love playing the guitar do yourself a favor and pick it up.

The one criticism I have is purely selfish on my part. I'm still a beginner and it does feel like the magazine is generally geared more towards advanced lessons. I'd like a touch more material for people starting out.

Not free, not good

Not only is it not free, it is just a PDF style version of the magazine. Go take a look at GUITARIST, and others that have designed interactive mags that utilize the power of the iOS-- video reviews, lessons, etc.

With this trash, you would still have to buy the print version to get the actual lessons, demos, etc.

Take this off the shelf until you are actually giving us an electronic mag. GT itself is awesome-- let's get an equally good, interactive version, and I will be the first to subscribe!

Fantastic

All the audio and video worked perfect, a real pleasure. Though offline none of this works, that is to be expected given the limited memory of these devices. A feature I would really like to see is the ability to save a particular backing track into the music folder, for easy reference. This is probably the only disadvantage over the hardcopy version with CD.

Good for all levels

I am an intermediate player and I have a fairly good understanding of Music Theory. I know those words scare a lot of beginning and advanced guitarist. But the way the theory is presented in Guitar Techniques is painless. Little bits at a time, at your own speed. I Think that anyone wanting to learn some music theory along side the TAB method that this is a great "Text Book" for that.
