Tuning is out of tune?
2022-05-26
by ThatOneFlutePlayer
I am a section leader and I tune my section(Flute)every single day except for those few, rare occasions. When I was tuning one day, I got all of my section “in tune” and then when we all played the same note, we weren’t tuned AT ALL! We were all sharp and my band director had to directly tune each of us. I didn’t get in trouble but it took some time out of the time we had so we were a little upset. I don’t know why it didn’t tune us but I deleted PanoTunerLite . I loved using it because it was really easy and free. I just don’t know why it made us out of tune then in tune.
Much better than I expected

I had my piano professionally tuned 2 weeks ago but my tuner must have spaced out on the last octave. It was horribly sharp and the last 5 notes sounded the same. Admittedly, most of us don’t play those notes that often but when they’re out of tune, you realize you play them more than you think. It was so bad that it was just too painful for me to wait for him to come back and fix his mistake. So after ordering a tuning kit, I downloaded PanoTunerLite.
As any pianist knows, the uppermost octave is particularly challenging to tune by ear because the strings are so short and the tone is so tinny. I first tested PanoTunerLite on middle A and sure enough it read 339.9, close enough to A440 to which the piano was tuned. And, as I heard, the last octave was at least a quarter to a half step sharp. The tuner was able to distinguish between the uppermost 4 notes which all sounded identical to my ear.
PanoTunerLite is simple to use and extremely discerning and sensitive, even to very small adjustments. It is so sensitive that I caution everyone to make sure there is no ambient noise in the room while you’re tuning.
I don’t know what extra benefits the paid app provides other than no ads which are very unobtrusive in a thin bar at the top of the screen. Truthfully, the free app works so well I would have been happy to pay for it.
Works great for everyday intermediate flute ^.^

I recently had my flutes serviced & the head joint corks don’t line up for me! I could tell my notes weren’t true by ear; which made practice an especially torturous labor. I found PanoTunerLite in a moment of desperation. My head joints(I have 2 flutes) were both tuned within 20mins! Now I use it daily while practicing to tune the instrument during warm up. 👌🏾🥳 Daily practice is less of a chore! That’s free without the upsell! Thanks!
Very satisfied

This was the 3rd free tuner app I tried and it is the best. There is immediate response without the lag of one of the other apps I used, and the display is very clear and straightforward.
If there is one issue I am displeased with, it is the battery drain if I leave PanoTunerLite open in the background. I try to close PanoTunerLite immediately after I finish tuning my instrument.
I’ve used piano tuner for years to tune my guitars. I find it to be excellent for this purpose since the dial moves are just the right speed. Other tuners like the one in logic are just way too sensitive to make tuning easy. I’ll leave piano tuning to my piano tuner. I use it on my iPhone so that it’s always available whether in the studio or on location.

I’ve played guitar for over 50 years and gone through several tuning apps over the last decade or so. I really like this one best. I’ve found it to be simple to use, and accurate, and adjustable to +/- 2, 5 or 10 cents. I find that for me, 2 cents is too sensitive, and 10 not quite accurate enough for my use. 5 cents has been my preferred setting and accurate enough for me to adjust my intonation when I don’t feel like pulling out my Korg with a meter and plugging in. This is definitely quicker from that standpoint. It works best when background noise is limited. Overall I’m delighted with Pano tuner and strongly recommend it.
I never rate apps, but here we go.

I appreciate PanoTunerLite so much. Almost every other app out there makes it incredibly difficult to play different tunings on guitar solely because you have to pay for the full version to do anything other than standard tuning. PanoTunerLite doesn’t make me do that, and for that, it’s my favorite app at the moment.

I’m a professional musician of 36 years & have been through a lot of tuners. I downloaded this tuner probably about 8 years ago & it’s served me quite well. It can be difficult to use with a bunch of racket going on in the background, but that’s to be expected & I’ve got no complaints. From a professional standpoint it’ll easily get 5 stars from me.
Love love love it!

I am an old hippie guitar player and was never very good. I used PanoTunerLite on my ancient classical guitar and it sounds better than I could ever tune it by ear. My husband dragged an old bar piano home one day and neither of us can play it. A friend came over and told us to take it to the dump. I was determined to get it right after that comment- bought a tuning hammer and after a quick lesson on Utube, I am now a professional piano tuner🤪. PanoTunerLite is fantastic!!
PanoTunerLite is very efficient at tuning my cello. It is always on the ball, and is easy to use. Just play a note and tune accordingly. It does have an ad banner on top, but it is not in your way. I overall recommend PanoTunerLite for String instrument tuning (since that's all I play). I don't know how it works with the rest of the instruments. Like winds, brass, or pianos. I also think it has a bit of trouble with low sounds, like Double Bass.
Appreciated so much I bought it

I’ve used this for a couple of years. It’s always on hand unlike the clip on tuner I’ve lost for months on end. It’s in my bag when I need it at a store or at a friend’s house. And thank you to the developer for not having obnoxious ads that you have to sit through for 30 seconds. I really do appreciate it. So though I didn’t need to pay for it, I wanted to. Thank you!
Same great app as long as I can remember

I don’t usually write reviews but I’ve been playing instruments for more than 10 years now now and panotuner has always been the go to tuning app. Whether it was tuning in orchestra class or having a jam session with a guitar in my room I literally don’t remember using another app. An aspect ratio update is long overdue for the newer style iphones but this definitely gets the job done.
PSA: Better than Boss and Korg!

by Beezermigs
I came here today because I felt like this needed to be said. I have a $250 korg tuner and the ever so popular Boss TU-2 tuner pedal, they’re great! But when tuning my 5 string bass in the studio, I find that PanoTunerLite (thanks in part to my iPhone’s high quality mics) does a better more accurate job of getting me tuned quickly. The other tuners bounce around and struggle with that low signal. Using PanoTunerLite on my iPhone 7+, its fast and has no tracking issues with that Low B on my bass. THANK YOU!!! ❤️🤘🔥
Tunes to any note

At first I was baffled. There was no “uke tuning” nor any other instrument tuning for that matter. Then I hit a G string. PanoTunerLite picked up my Low G tuning and indicated high or low tuning. I hit the C string. Same thing. PanoTunerLite is awesome! I just wonder, when tuning new strings, how difficult it will be to get to the correct note. You do need to know what the notes are (high g, c, e, a or low g, c, e, a. ) I downloaded four apps trying to find low g tuning for my uke. None of them had Low g. PanoTunerLite does! I’m all in.
I just downloaded PanoTunerLite and it's perfect for what I wanted. There are a ton of apps that will work for standard tuning a guitar. I needed an app that would work for alternate tuning and I figured a piano tuner would be able to tune to any note there is to play. And it did. Naturally, you have to know the note you want to tune the string to. If you don't know what drop-D or drop-C each string needs, then you might need another app, but if you know what you want to tune each string to, this is perfect.
Great tuner until I upgraded my phone.

This has been a great tuner. It is simple, intuitive, handy, and accurate. Great work, really. Until I upgraded to iPhone X. The problem is the program is not suited to the new haptics of the iPhone X, with no button. To exit PanoTunerLite , I can’t swipe, so no way to get back to the main screen, or another app from the apps main screen. A work around is to go to the info screen then swipe away, or turn on the accessibility controls.
Accident with the record button

PanoTunerLite is great but I picked up a fiddle at music store and pulled up PanoTunerLite to tune it. I didn’t know that I had detuned PanoTunerLite . I tuned the low A string and it was already at A just needing fine tuning but the tuner show between F and F#. I ended up breaking the string because in settings there is a record button to change the A(440htz) note frequency and and it was set to around 1400htz. I don’t know how or why I could’ve clicked the record button but I did. Could it possibly removed?
Absolutely perfect

This is the ideal tuner app. Identifies any pitch extremely fast and accurately, even faster than my Snark tuner, and has a good, clear interface with a coarse and fine tuning scale that makes it easy to lock onto a note very precisely. It also allows you to adjust the base note from 440 Hz to other pitches for people who want custom tunings, and has many other bells and whistles as well, but keeps them from getting in your way unless you want them.
Totally a five-star app, many thanks to the creator.
Best online free tuner I’ve ever used

I’ve tried about 10 or more apps that claim they will tune just from the microphone in your phone they’re all very difficult to use and never seem to work right. This particular app however has never failed me it’s always simple and it always works. I half to press at the 12th fret to do the low E on a base or anything lower because it doesn’t like that low of a sound but I found that to be the case on most
I have been looking for the most simple tuner for myself (I play the Ukulele) and I am a kid so I needed something simple for me to understand with me only knowing the 4 chords G C E A. PanoTunerLite made it RIDICULOUSLY EASY!! Every week I tune my ukulele and I swear I have probably mentioned PanoTunerLite to my friends a lot. My dad first found PanoTunerLite and tunes his guitar. My friends are probably sick of me mentioning PanoTunerLite probably for the millionth time. I love that you can change the settings to solfege. I am also a singer and I love that I can check my pitch. Overall, This is the best tuning app I have ever used.
Good basic tuner

I don’t use it often (all of my instruments have their own tuners), but it has a clear, easy to understand display that includes a graphic display of the note being played and how far away from “correct” it is. In addition, it shows the exact frequency being played (to the nearest 1/10th of a Hz.). The one thing it doesn’t do is display which octave the note is in (“C” could be in any of 7 octaves on a piano, foe example.
Wonderful tuner

I've used very many tuners, and this one is by far my favorite. It's very decisive, incredibly accurate, and sensitive to even the slightest decimal change in hertz. It's also pretty customizable and rather pretty. My only complaint is that it can sometimes difficult to use in a room with lots of other noise in it, but there's not really any getting around that with a microphone tuner. Definitely worth picking up if you're a musician.
Bass notes need to be better

I love this tuner. Whenever it measures something, it measures the string and not the note as a whole. The problem with this though is that the Eb (E flat) and lower on the final octave, it has a hard time figuring out which note. You'll understand what I mean. But from E all the way up to C, it's perfect. It's harder tuning the first octave but that's because the strings don't vibrate for very long. That's the piano's fault and not the tuner's. I give it a 9/10
The best tuning app I’ve ever had

So I’ve had a bunch of tuning apps over the years, because I love to pick up weird acoustic instruments that a guitar tuner won’t work on. I just got a Lyra harp, and my husband suggested I get a turning app, I randomly chose this one, and I couldn’t be happier with it. It has an impressive octave rage and I was able to turn it up in no time with absolutely no hassle. Thank you for making a great app!
I play multiple instruments including but not limited to Viola, Baritone, and guitar. I use PanoTunerLite for all of these. It's great to pull out when you need to tune quickly right before a football game, or when walking around with your viola right before a concert. I highly recommend PanoTunerLite and if you are looking for a tuner, this is the one for you.
This is easily the best tuning app

This is my favorite tuning application and is actually more accurate than my Korg electronic tuner. Works very well with a variety of instruments- I use it on my violin, mandolin and trombone with very precise accuracy. The people who complain that background noise interferes with tuning are right- but you will find that with any electronic tuner period. Fantastic app and definitely worth the download!
Best tuner ever

I’m usually in band and I can tell if I’m off tune but I tried PanoTunerLite and amazingly it worked So maybe you can change PanoTunerLite name to “piano/band tuner” or something in that sort because I play a electric piano and I got PanoTunerLite for fun and I changed me settings on it to be a trumpet and surprisingly it said the notes correctly I would highly recommend PanoTunerLite to any band director
