June 2018 update removed key features

This is a good app, but the most recent update removed some features and is a bit less user intuitive. In the previous version, the user could adjust a custom workout we created. Usually, a newly-created custom workout appears at the bottom of the custom workout page. In previous versions, the user could move it to the top so as not to scroll through their entire custom workout list to see their latest workout. The latest update removed that feature (or if it is still there, it is not easy to find). Please bring back this feature.

Additionally, FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome used to have a daily step counter but that feature was also removed in an earlier version. I found that feature particularly helpful. Please bring that feature back as well.

One feature that would be nice to have is the ability to write notes on the specific exercise when building a custom workout (e.g., “first set toes in, second set toes out, third set toes straight). Currently, there is a way to take notes AFTER completing a SET but the ability to provide notes on the overall exercise while building a workout would be most helpful.

A great investment. Your own Personal Trainer.

I used the free version before switching to the paid version. I’ve been using the premium (paid) version of FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome for years now. It’s great at the gym, at home, outdoors, and on the road. GREAT FOR PANDEMIC QUARATINING! You can workout ANYWHERE with FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome. It makes it hard to give an excuse. The exercises covers all levels of experience and all desired goals. I have found it helpful in keeping my routines constantly changing and interesting. There are also injury-prevention exercises as well as recovering-from-injuries exercises. There are also training regimens to cover a variety of sports. While the free version is a great start, the premium is definitely worth the investment.

Updating review!

>>>Update on previous review>>> The devs fixed the previously described issue and FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome has been working well. I appreciate the speedy customer service! Thank you!

>>>Previous review>>>I have used FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome for years and it used to be awesome. Lately it’s so glitchy and it just “erases” the workout in progress if I quickly look into another app (ex: go to my music streaming app to skip a song, go back to the fitness buddy app, my workout in progress data is gone). Same thing happens if I use the rest between sets timer - once the clock runs out, FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome just quits and erases the workout all together. This issue has been happening for a few weeks now, I’m still hoping it’s fixed soon.

Developers need to stop updating

I’ve been using FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome for about 6 years now. I Used to recommend this to all of my friends who were trying to get into working out or looking for a good tracking app. However, overtime FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome has progressively gotten less user friendly and less efficient which has caused me to back track on any of my recommendations. Aside from occasional crashing, the issues I’d like to point out most are as follows:

- Exercises are no longer in alphabetical order on the exercise list. I get that I can type it in, but this shouldn’t even be an issue in the first place.

-Workout description fields don’t save what you enter

-Custom workouts appear as “Unknown”

- Even after paying, my workout is often interrupted by ads for premium membership, as well as “premium” exercises locking out on me.

- When I start my workout, the exercise types aren’t specified anymore. For instance, “Barbell benchpress, Incline” just shows up as “Barbell benchpress”

Many of these are small but it’s just more to pile on top of the years worth of terrible updates ripping FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome apart. My complaints about those updates have been mentioned by others in plenty of negative reviews FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome has received.

Strange how FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome I paid $0.99 for back in 2013 was vastly better than this dumpster fire that by now should be making the money to actually improve.

Good app but not perfect

Ive used FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome JEFIT and Nike Training Club. NTC’s interface is superior to Fitness Buddy but the workouts and plans in Fitness Buddy are better. JEFIT is just not good at all.

Some gripes I have are that once you start a workout through a plan its on a timer. If you take longer than the timer allows you cant swipe back to go to the exercise you were doing. The interface for the workouts from a plan are for some reason different than the workouts available for you to do on your own. Im sure theres logic behind this but you should have the ability to choose the interface you want.

The workouts as part of the plan are also very long. FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome says they should take 40 minutes but thats not possible on my plan which has at least ten exercises with 4 sets and a minute break in between each set.

App Size

Only issue is that FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome size can grow quite large. Everything seems to be synced to your account so I’m wondering what is taking up so much space. I simply deleted and reinstalled and all my workouts and logs were still there. I’m guessing the initial logs are created locally but if FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome is automatically syncing to the account, why isn’t it optimized like all other apps to get rid of the redundant data after so much time to free up space?

SCAM!!!

To start with I wish I could give FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome 0 stars because thats what it deserves!!! I installed FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome during the weekend and got the yearly subscription. None of the workouts worked for me on my iPhone. Sometimes app would crash in the middle of the workouts, timing was completely off and the guided instructions sometimes were unrelated to the actual exercise.
I contacted FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome developer after two days and asked for a refund and they instructed me to request it via Apple. I did so, but no matter what description i put in the apple’s refund request form, I always got an automated message back saying that I don’t qualify for a refund. I contacted FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome developer again and explained them that I can’t make Apple’s form to issue me a refund for your broken app and aksed them to step in and give me the money back. Sadly I never heard back from them again. Very bad app with an even worse customer service!!!!

What happened?!

I have had FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome for years. I paid for it back then to ensure I had access to all the workouts and would be able to track them so I could meet my goals. Now with this latest update, essentially all those workouts - now listed under “fitness buddy classics” - are locked and can’t be tracked, just because you want me to pay for Fitness Buddy Premium access? No thanks. As I said, I paid for FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome and I should still have access and the ability to track ALL of those now “classic” workouts/programs.

Very poor update for those of us who paid back then and have enjoyed using FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome until now. I’m kind of sad I have to start looking for another app now because I doubt I’ll get the access I had back if FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome just pushes getting Premium subscriptions on every page.

Buyers beware

I got FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome based on a targeted Facebook ad... yep they got me.. read some reviews and saw 4.8 average on FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome Store so burned 4 bucks to take a look. Apps laid out pretty nice and simple to use, got pulled into the idea of getting a 12 week “personalized” workout so ended up opting in for the yearly premium subscription. Got my plan and was pretty disappointed. This would probably be ok for the average person who doesn’t workout at all but I would expect, since I selected advanced, that I’d get a better workout regime.

Unfortunately this is not the sole reason I’m giving FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome a 1 star.. I am rating FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome based on there being 0 ways to contact customer support to end a annual renewal that I now have to dispute with my PayPal account. There is nothing in FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome or on their website, that I can find, that gives any customer support.

Disappointed and Demotivated

I reported bugs many times, but the latest bug has me thinking that I need to stop using FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome altogether. First, it was great. However, the first bug was random crashing. The second bug was suddenly not being able to share my workout (which, for me, is a huge part of the motivation to show my supporter how hard I’ve been working). The third bug was crashing AND LOSING any workout data I had during the crash time. The fourth bug, the final straw, was today when IT DIDN’T EVEN TRACK MY WORKOUT!! I spent over an hour and updated my heartbeat (which is the only thing it tracked) after every set. Now, my motivation is very decreased and my calorie count is off. I recommend saving the space and $2 by downloading an app that won’t fail you.

Great all-around app

Great app. Highly recommend. 3.5/5 stars

I love how it gathers all of my health/workout info from other apps (Apple Health, Nike Run, etc).

However, I wish there was a better landing/opening page. I wish there were a better day at a glance/food page rather than workouts. (Because not all of our days revolve around researching gym workouts).

I don’t understand, and don’t like the meal plans. It only shows one recipe for B/L/D, so it’s not fully encompassing of what one should eat for the day.

Additionally, I think some menus are cumbersome (going back to the landing page issue);

It’s also hard to program your own personal workout plan, like if you get a workout from another website, you’re not able to create a daily plan, but just have to remember which of your custom workouts youre doing for the day.

I also don’t know how to get out of the meal plans, and workout plans that are set in FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome .

Otherwise I love FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome , and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Poor updates

Specific problems that need to be addressed:

* During a workout I can no longer tap on an exercise to see/review how to do it, or access the info on muscles targeted and personal history. This is critical for those of us trying to target (or avoid) certain muscles after an injury. This has been broken on the last two updates.

* Need a way to turn off the rest interval/timer alarm feature. I don’t use it, and it’s very annoying to have my phone making random sounds at the gym EVEN THOUGH MY PHONE IS MUTED.

In general FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome, which I once would have rated four stars, has become more difficult to use since its major UI redesign. It’s bloated with social media connections which, while I’m sure are helpful for some users, I will never use—it would be nice to have a setting to opt out of having to constantly click past them.

FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome is much harder to use, and extremely non-intuitive.

But I will admit the colors are much more attractive since the redesign.

Still room for improvement

Although FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome had great features like meal plans and customized workout plans, when it comes to the workout plans there is room for improvement. The plans given are mostly body weight exercises. My suggestion is to do a questionnaire that will determine if either body exercises or gym based exercises (with equipment) best suit your particular preference. The. Based on that formulate a workout plan. If this upgrade were to happen it would really take FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome to a whole new level.

Great App

Love the training plans and meal options as well. I need a little more structure in my plan so this is exactly what I was hoping for to move into the next phase of my training.

If I may make a suggestion, I’d like there to be an Apple Watch version of FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome so I can upload the session into my watch and I don’t need to keep checking my phone to see what’s next and record stats. Other apps I’ve used have had that feature, although they were not as advanced as Fitness Buddy in other areas..

Keep up the good work!

Awesome!

I love FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome! I used to do the same exercises over and over during my workouts. With FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome , I can easily look up new things to do each workout. FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome also has many bodyweight exercises that you can do at home or in a hotel room, which comes in handy especially during a pandemic when you’re stuck at home! I highly recommend FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome.

Money hungry app

I used to like FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome before. But now It seems like all they care about is making money off you. FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome used to be well structured you used to be able to choose what kind of workout you want whether you wanted to use weights or not. But now it seems like every time you try to open an option to workout you have to pay for it. WHERE ARE THE FREE WORKOUTS THAT I USED TO USE THAT WERE EFFECTIVE FOR ME AND WERE FREE OF CHARGE? FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome is sinking because they are too concerned about making money off everyone that downloads FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome . I wouldn’t be so mad if I didn’t like his app before but now it’s ridiculous how money hungry they have become. If I had 10 thumbs I would give it ten thumbs down.

Poor Support for an Awesome App!

I have been Fitness Buddy Premium user for close to a year and everything has been going fine until I ran into an issue with adding old workouts/workouts that I did without having FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome with me. My issue is with FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome support. The discussion board part of the support page has been retired and there only about 12 FAQs for this particular app which are not helpful. So I emailed via FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome and received no response so a few days later I emailed via the website and have yet to receive a response. I really want to give this 5 stars because it is awesome but without the support and customer service to back it up, it only deserves 1 star.

Support is almost nonexistent

Steer clear of FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome/company. Downloaded and purchased Premium membership the same day. I accidentally deleted app while cleaning out folder. No biggie I THOUGHT. I re-downloaded the same night under the same login/email. Premium options were gone as if I was a basic user.

I made MULTIPLE attempts to contact support via online “Help Desk” submissions. Unlike ALL OTHER online help supports I have utilized - they do not generate ANYTHING that is emailed back to you showing they received an online submission and are looking into whatever your issue is. I made 3 more submissions online throughout the week. FIVE DAYS LATER I received an email from Natalie Silver asking for the email I signed up with which WAS in ALL the “Help Desk” submissions I made.

I responded with requested info and NEVER heard back via multiple attempts within the direct email response chain NOR by yet MORE submissions using their online “Help Desk.”

After reaching out to Apple Support I was refunded my purchase.

Really, REALLY disappointed.

Look elsewhere - app has gone downhill

I used FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome for years and it used to be pretty reliable. Recently, several updates have really brought FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome down. First, the recording exercises feature constantly crashes if you switch between different apps. Second, and REALLY is this new "check if you're overtraining" banner that seems to be on several parts of app and that I frequently accidentally click on. Luckily, my phone requires thumbprint authentication prior to making purchases, otherwise I would have unwittingly signed up for FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome 's $30 per month subscription plan. This "feature" is annoying, intrusive and dishonest.

Perfect for anybody

My favorite feature is the built-in programs they give you. They may not be perfect for the gym you go to, but they serve as a good blueprint to create your own workouts based on where you work out, what equipment you have available, and what your goals and fitness level are. I would highly recommend FitnessBuddyTrainAtHome to anybody looking to track their workouts and monitor their own progress!
