App works fine, but many issues with Peapod

PeapodDelivery works well for ordering items, although the substitution for each item should be displayed more prominently. The real issues are with Peapod itself. Produce is not of good quality. Meat and dairy have a short shelf life because the sell-by date is often the day of delivery or the next day. Bread arrives crushed due to poor packing of the bags. Frozen items are sometimes fully thawed during the summer months. Nine deliveries out of 10 have out-of-stock items. Drivers often miss the delivery window and it’s hit-or-miss whether I’ll get a call or email about the delay. Customer service is also hit-or-miss. Some reps handle complaints well, while others are rude and condescending. Prices are much higher than in Stop & Shop stores, plus you pay a delivery fee and tip the driver. Sure, you’re paying for convenience, but there is little convenience when there are constant problems that require calls to customer service AND a trip to the store to buy the items that weren’t in stock or arrived in poor condition.

App functionality

Probably the worst retail app I’ve ever used. Checking out alone is a game of chance, finding which button to push (you really don’t have an option from the cart unless you stumble on to it. There is no way to contact either the company or tech unless I’m missing something very obvious because the home page shows food, period. And if you happen to order directly off PeapodDelivery and later access through PeapodDelivery , your order isn’t there. I’m pretty savvy with retail apps, but this one is a head scratcher.

As for the PeaPod service: it’s frustrating in the extreme. You can’t get in touch with the driver to find out when they’ll be there, even after you get a text saying they’re on their way. The text at 7:49: Your driver will be arriving shortly but may be delayed by traffic. After nearly an hour has passed, and 45 minutes after the window for delivery, the truck is still not here. By the way, when trying to get in touch with the company, do not fall for their offer to call you back when you’re waiting for an agent. They don’t.

Great delivery

The main office and all customer transactions must be done through two men who may or may not answer the phone after 15 minutes. How can a grocery delivery in pa be successful with customer service in Chicago? I will never use this peapod again. Wegmans is cheaper and local! The delivery was rescheduled and not told to the delivery person, who was wonderful. I wasn’t home from work yet and because the men in Chicago did not email Pennsylvania, my delivery waited for me on my porch. No big deal for me, it was stressful for the delivery person. The discount is not taken from the first order as advertised, don’t email, it takes two days for a response! Nope to peapod. This is great in theory! I finally talked to “Doug” who kept telling me not to take this personal that they can not see what my total was until the peapod folks went shopping, I explained to Doug, customer service, this is personal... this is my money which makes this transition personal. The receipt is wiped off the website after placing your order. Have a great day and call an uber

Works well, life saver during recovery from surgery

PeapodDelivery works well. It’s easy to generate your grocery list. You can view past purchases within the last three months, six months, etc. and then I use that to select items to put in my cart. You can also just select order same as previous order and it puts everything in your last order in your cart. Sometimes I use that and then modify it. It’s easy to search for items, too. I have noticed that there are more items available if you use pick up rather than delivery. I have used delivery service and pick up service. Both were excellent. This has been extremely helpful while I have been recovering from major surgery and unable to grocery shop inside store.

Vegetable and meat

This is the first time I used Peapod and I thought it would be a convenience because I don’t like to drive in the snow or ice because I have a Mustang and it has a tendency to fishtail. I think going to the store is easier and cheaper because you get to see the product as far as vegetables and produce, and you could pick which ever one you want. My complaint is towards the guy who is picking and bagging your groceries; when I received them, everything looked like it was thrown in bins with no care to the produce I ordered; that includes bananas, tomatoes and other vegetables. Considering the fact that you are paying for the person to go out and buy your groceries, they should treat your food with better care and use common decency when picking out your food. Nonetheless, this is a useful app but I don’t believe it will last a long time if the food isn’t treated with proper handling.

Works for me

I’ve been a Peapod customer since 2007, and I have PeapodDelivery on multiple Apple devices. I love the convenience of upgrading my saved shopping list wherever I am: home office, kitchen, backyard, car, or out and about — like in a waiting room!

One of the things I like about PeapodDelivery is the information page. It lists an item’s ingredients or method of production (in the case of eggs, meats, poultry, etc.) for example, grass-fed, antibiotic free; and the substitution you receive if they run out of the item you want and you opt in for that service.

I’ve always tried to read labels but I couldn’t always be as diligent in stores as I am on the Peapod app. Consequently, I’ve gotten some surprises. With PeapodDelivery I learned that the majority of jarred spaghetti sauces have sugar in them. I also discovered that my favorite Post cereal has GMOs in it, as have some Yoplait yogurts, and a lot of other everyday products I checked.

It would have taken me much longer to catch on if I did my shopping at the market rather using PeapodDelivery. There is a limit to how long even a label reader will hang around a store aisle comparing the sugar content of spaghetti sauces!

Amazing!

This is my first app review after years but I had to because of this great service. I was between using Instacart and Peapod but for some reason my card was having problems on Instacart so I decided with Peapod. I was very hesitant because of the scattered reviews but decided to give it a try. My first order was amazing! The substitutions were very clear, the delivery was right on time and my deliverer was so nice! The curtesy call was unexpected and a great attribute to the service along with updated texts on when my driver would be arriving. I don’t think im ever going back to conventional shopping. PeapodDelivery and service saves so much time and is amazing and thorough. If you are skeptical please give it a try! You won’t be disappointed.

Very convenient

So far I really appreciate this service. I was sick for a week and decided to try Giant Direct. The website was very easy to use and found everything I needed. Instead of delivery I did the pick up service. Well, it was so convenient and fast I will continue using this service. I saved so much money due to first time user promotion and my giant digital coupons I was able to download to my card. The p/u was easy and the rep came out and explained everything that was in my order and asked if I wanted the substitutions for the out of stock items. My produce and meats were exactly what I would have picked if I went into store. She even loaded up my car!! What a big help and pleasant experience!! Thank you Giant!! Can’t wait to do it again!

Meh 👎🏻

I’ve been using PeapodDelivery for quite some time. At first it seemed pretty good. I shop at our local Giant. I knew there were items I had previously purchased in the store that PeapodDelivery doesn’t “carry” but I made alternative choices. Kinda frustrating but, whatever. I adjusted. However lately, more often than not, I have purchased items on PeapodDelivery that will be there multiple weeks and them completely gone the next. Not just out of stock, but showing the message “we don’t seem to carry that item.” I really like the convenience of being able to pick up my groceries when I’m short on time, but I find it more and more frustrating when items are not available on PeapodDelivery when I know they are in the store. Also - my past purchases keep showing groceries that I’ve never purchased. Huh?!? Super annoying. So until they figure out how to make PeapodDelivery better, I will not be using it.

Use Literally Any Other Service

This has been a truly terrible experience. Placed my order Saturday morning, and the only time available was Sunday evening between 4:30 and 10:00PM. Not great, but understandable given demand. Sunday evening at 7:30 I get a robo call saying they're delayed three hours. An hour later I get a call from a live person saying that since my order is delayed until after midnight, and it is not their policy to deliver after midnight, my order has been canceled, and would I like to be transferred to someone to reschedule delivery. Sure. I kind of need some groceries, and I've spent a weekend waiting for them. After waiting on hold for 45 minutes, a sales rep tells me that they can deliver at the earliest, 4PM on Monday. And, for my troubles, they'll put $10 on my account for next time!!

TL;DR: Save yourself the trouble, use Instacart (or any service other than Peapod).

I love this app!

But there should be a few tweaks. I wish there could be reusable tots. There should be a way to add coupons before; and also a better savings option. Plus a few other things, but some just are online shopping related. Also, you can't do same day delivery; you've been warned. I loved it though overall. I had really good luck with the produce! I hope that keeps happening. It was such a time saver. The 20 mins to put them away was a breeze!!!! Taking time to add to the list was fantastic, and eliminated stress. I even forgot to add onions and added them before it was processed! Give it a try! I did a huge haul and had great luck.

App was great 10 years ago, horrible now.

THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE iOS APP, NOT THE PEAPOD GROCERY SERVICE ITSELF! PeapodDelivery is so far behind current smartphone app design and features that it's embarrassing. It does what the web does for the most part, and that's it. No design around the concept of mobility and how it impacts your grocery shopping workflow. There's still no temp list for your next order. To select an item for your next order, you cannot save until you have enough in transaction $ and select a delivery date and time. No support for at the moment grocery reminders like add something via Siri when I think or it, add via UPC scan when I have a package that is almost empty or runs out, no API for thrid party apps to inetgrate with, like list managers, calorie counters, etc. Was great 10 years ago; horrible now.

Maybe one day I’ll never leave the house again

I love peapod. It’s super great and convenient. I place my order and my groceries come straight into my house. Excellent.

My one complaint at this point is that they don’t have some of the store-brand Giant products that are in my local Giant store. It’d be one thing if no one had them, but they’re clearly around. You can just pick them up?

More importantly, though, peapod needs an Alexa skill. Right now I have to tell Alexa to add things to my shopping list, and then flip between the apps to add everything to the express shopping list. If I could just tell Alexa to add it to my peapod list, the system would be perfect.

Great service!

Peapod delivery is a great service. So far my orders have been 100% accurate and I've received no damaged or expired items. The produce has arrived in excellent condition as if I picked it out myself. The driver has arrived on time and been very pleasant and professional. Peapod also allows me to shop in bulk because I don't have to worry about getting it all up to my 3rd floor apartment by myself - in fact the driver handles it all on his own. Peapod is now my main way to grocery shop. It's a huge time saver and stress relief.

I’ve tried the others...

Always come back to Peapod. I started using Peapod when it first came to my area a few years ago. Loved it. I hopped around a few times and tried other stores and services but come back to Peapod. PeapodDelivery is the easiest most user friendly of them all. So much more convenient. I also take advantage of Pod Pass. Good deal there. Love having smaller orders brought to my car when I opt for pick up. Then there are the fuel rewards that I earn every time I shop. What’s not to like?
