Crashes

Downloaded the new update and now it keeps crashing when I try to read an article.

Ugly and frustrating

The latest redesign of TorontoStar is disturbing to look at. The headline font is ugly and the body type was easier to read when it was sans serif. I feel I am working harder now to use it.

Notifications

Notifications are not working on iPhone X. I have reinstalled and checked all settings. Works on my other iPhone 8. I am assuming new installs are not registering with the notifications server.

Bad

Is it too much to ask to develop a decent app? No favorites, can't save articles, no offline mode and you can't even post comments using TorontoStar . I don't know who at TorStar approved TorontoStar but obviously this person is not a techie.

Doesn’t recognize paid subscription after login - useless

I’m a paid, active subscriber to The Star and The Spec. After successfully logging into The Star, clicking on Settings and then my name, the field says subscriber to The Spec - not The Star. As such, I can’t read more than 3 articles before being told I need to subscribe to read more, and I ALREADY AM A PAID SUBSCRIBER. why have you not fixed this bug? TorontoStar is useless! 0 stars if I could rate 0.

Awful

Changes in the version include disruptive pop-up ads and less intuitive navigation. I've been using TorontoStar for years, but find this version unusable.

Utter Garbage

As a longtime subscriber, I am utterly unable to register for the brave new electronic world TorontoStar promises. When I requested help through TorontoStar , it took over 1 MONTH to get anything other than an automated response. When I finally got a representative, he told me to use the Chrome browser. It is clear that no one in this organization has the dimmest notion of how to make their own app work. I give up.

Disappointing

Going backwards. New format is no different than everybody else now. No style. If all we wanted to do was read words on a white background this would be fine, dull, boring....

Same as all the others

I enjoyed the previous app since it was rich in media, optimized for the iPad. Now it looks the same as all the other news feeds. And where is my market snapshot? I used to love the red/green indicators at the end of the business section. As a snowbird, I checked the CDN/US $ on a daily basis.

The constantly crashing app

Becoming really frustrated re. app crashing when opening new, significant news stories on my iPad. Haven't been able to read 2 articles so far this week.

Step up for iPhone, step down for iPad users

I really enjoyed reading the Star on my iPad but the latest version appears to have abandoned the ipad. For now I will read the Star on my iPhone and the globe and mail on my iPad.

Constant location check

Why the consistent and persistent location check?

No "Back" Button? Seriously?

Wow... this update really screwed up. Avoid! There are no significant new features, just crippled navigation.

Not as useful as it could be

Please make a breaking news push notification feature for those who want it!

OK

Better. Not all web stories available in app. Some issues with out of app content, such as editorial cartoons -- can't zoom in limited in-app browser, so many of these are a waste of time. Category strip hard to use on iphone. Fortunately, the Section view is a workaround.

Sometimes the content is short. For instance, it's 9:15 Sat AM, Sep 10, and there's exactly 1 story each in local, national, world. This is my paper :| I would pay for a full online newspaper.

Good. A few tweaks needed

Quite honestly, I was OK with the iPhone optimized website. TorontoStar brings some nice features like being able to download for offline reading. It would be nice to customize your home screen with sections you read most and to have a "fast home" capability. With most apps, touching the iPhone status bar will move you to top of the page. This doesn't. Not a problem, just a quirk.

Cheery. Fine.

Easy to use. Lots of color without being busy and distracting. I hate screens with 7 fonts and 17 things to click on and a bunch of related links embedded in the middle of the article. This is streamlined and fresh and simple.

Canada’s Best Newspaper …

Unfortunately lacks the resources of The NY Times or the Washington Post, and, in the English newspaper tradition, tends to tilt politically - slightly liberal, while Canada’s Other Best Newspaper, the Globe&Mail, tilts the other way.
There’s also the Toronto Sun, a plain old-fashioned British TABLOID! with a near-neked nice-lookin’ girl on the same page every day.
Both the Star and G&M are essentially national papers, available with different names and local news replates from the Atlantic to the Pacific, serving as good sources of both national and major city/regional news, but one (of each, if you want everything except the tababe is good enough if you’re watching from afar.
be aware - the “right wing” G&M is really old-fashion centrist, far left of what the US GOP has left behind. Canada is essentially a kinder, politer, mostly saner nation than the US, unfortunately lacking Constitutional protections for minorities, who, outside of religion (all Canada’s taxpayers support only Anglican and Catholic parochial schools - religious Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc., not to mention Atheists pay a terrible price, insulting and the nation’s acceptable bigotry), would never be stomped by Nazis or Klansmen. That’s simply unacceptable behavior.

Getting better

Supporting local GTA news while it is still around. Glad to see TorontoStar is improving, albeit slowly, over the years

Finally something usable

I wanted the first one to say that The Star Team has done a commendable job in fixing the navigations bug. Giving 4 Stars.
Good job.

Another dud from The Star Team. They introduced the back button but the page never scrolls to your original position. Absolutely pathetic development team!

Whatever happened to the back button! Every time you access an article the only way to get back to the previous page is to tap the Home Page link in the menu and then scroll down to your original location.
Really poor navigation design. Not sure why such a user interface was adopted.

Could not even read one article

I downloaded TorontoStar to catch up on news from Canada. I could not read even one article without subscribing, even with the ads. No thanks. Delete. I’ll look elsewhere for Canadian news.

Great addition to my daily news line-up.

Easy navigation.
