Crackle - Movies & TV Reviews

I had an account with Crackle before Chicken Soup...Sony+ 2019 transition. At that time ,I could not view anything and would get a msg. That Crackle was not available in my area?? Although it was fine before shares were sold ,this app Plus. Anyway, I got another video company & loved them more. But, decided to see what happened to my account on “this app”,Months later, I suppose the company got their acct. holders back online and I could access “this app “again. I don’t care for the frequent low budget “B” movies R, X rated films they offer , but at least they do rate the films. I have to go on-line to get a true description of their movies .
The alphabet search engine is way off. Type (A) in the search window and you will get a list of any movie with an (A) In the title ?? Title search needs improvement I have found some oldie Danny Kaye, Bob Hope, but many films I like could just as well be found on-line with other streams that have smoother & easier buffering. “ this app” films’ buffer is irritatingly & increasingly slow.

I use Crackle a lot, I have a boring job so I watch movies on it when I’m at work. I like the movie selection, I like how it has a lot of good movies from back around the 90s and early 2000s since that was the best era of film in my opinion. I don’t mind the advertising breaks, it’s just like watching tv. But a lot of times after the ads are finished, the X, “Learn More” link at the bottom and Ad Length time in the top right corner gets stuck on the screen and it’s annoying. You have to close out of Crackle , reopen it and find your movie again. It’s the only way to get everything off the screen. It saves your point in the movie though so it picks right back up where you left off which is a plus. I wish there was a fix you guys could do for that. Then it would be totally fine.

I’ve got Crackle on my phone and AppleTV. I don’t use it on my phone except as a means to get it on the tv. I’ve found quiet a few titles that just won’t play. At the moment they have an Aliens channel. I was excited to start a little marathon. alien played fine. But Aliens has refused to play for three days. I’ve rebooted the appletv. Removed and readded Crackle . Signed out and in. Rebooted again. Reset my router. No solution. So I contacted this app tech support. I’ve gotten emails saying they’ve sent it to their engineers. Ya da ya da. It works fine on the phone, but I don’t want to watch it on my phone. I want to watch it on my tv. Pretty unenthusiastic about the slow and seemingly endless process of getting this issue resolved. Yeah I know. It’s a free app and it plays free movies, when they actually play.

When I first downloaded this “this app” app, my sole intention was to be able to watch the classic movie “Die Hard”. It had only been a couple days since I had watched the former mentioned blockbuster, I decided that I needed to watch such a fantastic film. I proceeded to visit Crackle and noticed that it was not on the home page as usual. After a few worrisome moments I thought of the idea to search to for film. After typing the entire title into the search bar, it finally settled on me that Die Hard had ran it’s course within the “this app”.

Why would an app with so few “watchable” movies take away such an addictive film. For this sole reason, I am only rating this app as a three star app.

I think Crackle could use a bit selection and updates. When I downloaded it I can see it doesn’t really let you pick what type of movies your looking for. Example: if I want to see drama, it only showed action. I think they should definitely add more movies and make it FREE to watch. Another thing, when I search up a movie I want to watch, it shows something COMPLETELY different. Example: if I search up Harry Potter, it’s shows a horror movie. I think they should definitely upgrade and work on Crackle a bit more. They should make it to customer satisfaction. I’ve been trying to download a app so I can watch movies for free and find excactly what I want. Overall, I think this could use more progress.

For the last version app update this app was really awesome! I end up using it more than Netflix because there selection for movies is better. Netflix focuses too much on drama and gore movies (ended up watching Freeform more for Halloween). this app's selection is more thrillers and comedy. But I feel like every other update someone misses something vital before the update and the it's back to zero with Crackle. This time its the Casting feature. It seems to always be the casting feature! This time the Casting feature is just gone! I thought it was an internet issue but it wasn't and i can cast from all other apps. But for what ever reason the casting icon is just completely gone from Crackle . Meaning using Crackle isn't that great anymore. I use Chromecast. Wish I never updated Crackle .

I don’t hate Crackle. I used to love it!!! I was hooked on the 1st episode of Snatch season and 2. They had a good selection of show and movies. Things looked great then started the upgrades. They created glitch after glitch and just got progressively worst. Then I noticed the this great Sony collection was very small. After 18 months no new movies or shows. It like Sony is broke. These 2 things, lack of new/original content and glitches just made me give up on Crackle. I still have Crackle . I check occasionally, to see if Snatch season 3 will ever be made/air, if there are new movies but there’s nothing new on there.

Halfway through the movie and it’s completely frozen, no matter how many times I reload and try to get it to work. There were a few freezes and glitches through the first half of the movie, but now the second half I can’t get it to play at all.

This is the only place where the movie I’m watching is free so I’m trying to deal with it. I never heard of Crackle before today when looking for where I could watch this movie, and when I saw that it had a pretty nice selection of movies I thought ‘I might have to keep Crackle!’ But now I definitely am deleting as soon as I’ve finished the movie I’m watching now. Terrible app.

Lots of ads and commercials like people said too, but that wasn’t even bothering me.

The content being pushed out by Sony is fantastic but Crackle lacks basic customization and controls that would make watching that content more accessible and more enjoyable.

I don’t like how I can’t choose my own resolution and buffer speed. The automatic choice usually results in poor picture quality. Especially when I really want to use Crackle on airplane/airport WiFi.

Connections to other tv boxes (AppleTV, Roku, and Chromecast) are also just as disappointing even with more reliable internet. The picture quality is constantly jumping below 720p.

I’m not calling the ads on this app invasive just for existing there, they’re SUPER invasive because they are OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD. They’re at least twice the volume of what I’m watching on this app or any other content I watch on my firestick. I know this is an app review but where else am I supposed to tell you? You really need to fix that because ads shouldn’t be so obnoxious that it steers people away from using this app. I actually have to mute it every time the commercials come on at night so I don’t wake up the whole house. And it’s the same few commercials repeating...it’s like psychological torture. I can’t give you anything more than 1 Star with your commercials turned up to 11. Do better.

Let me just say, I love Crackle! Though the major thing that I really need fixing is the episodes. Lately I’ve been getting on the next episode and a black screen will come up with a play sign crossed out. Therefore, I cannot watch that episode. Though I love that it is free! I just need this to be fixed really badly. Other than that I just wish there were more options to choose from as well as getting around easier. The ads are not to bad so it isn’t as annoying.

when I go to a current episode of a show it’s sometimes black instead of resuming and if I don’t select to go to next episode manually after current episode over and let it go to next automatically instead it goes to black glitched screen like it wants to load episode but did not get the data needed unless I manually do it after an episode before is over the click to play next episodes then works otherwise I have to close out app and reopen to work again

I have had this app for around 8-9 years. Was always easy to see over 200 movies. They did not change that often, but they did change. I had Crackle from my Sony TV, and added to my iPad several years ago. Now Crackle will not play movies. Select a movie to see it look like is’s going to load, only to have the play button with a hash mark through it. Will load on a fire stick but, not on my Apple device. Instead of airdrop, now I have to go through fire stick. Not the end of the world, but a pain to grab another remote to run a movie on this app.

Since Sony acquired this app the video quality and content has been better. However the annoyance especially on a smart TV is you can’t keep the video paused as long as you need. Seems after 5 or 10 minutes the video starts up on it’s own.

Also when trying to skip forward you hit stop and get 6 or 7 ads. Then sometimes after the ads the video ends up at a part you already watched. You try to get at the point the movie was and guess what? 6 or 7 more ads!

Lastly as someone who has more than enough sites I’m registered to it is annoying if the connection goes awry (which it does often) and being a non registered user it makes me start the movie from the beginning, which means skipping ahead and yep 6 or 7 ads 🤬

There are no options for resolution either! I have a 4k HDR/Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos TV and movies look awful. Choices please!

Sony this app has a wide variety of TV and movies, classics, favorites, and unknowns that quickly become favorites. The only thing I hate is that I can only watch for one day before the slash through the play symbol pops up when I try to play my desired show. It used to happen every so often, and then every couple of days. Now it happens daily if you sign in as a guest. (I have never set up an account to log in.) Thus, I have to delete Crackle and reinstall it every day that I want to watch something. It is annoying, but so far I'm willing to keep doing it because of the shows it offers.

I discovered Crackle because I was trying to find a place to watch Walker,Texas Ranger and I’m glad I did. Could you please add the 7-9th season? I watched the first six on repeat and I love it more and more.

The real reason I am writing a review is that recently Crackle has become a bit buggy with the pause/play button and the skip button. Recently as well some videos do not work and I have to restart Crackle on every episode to make it work.

I love Crackle to stream movies you can’t get on other streaming apps. The selection you guys put on here is awesome because I’m trying to watch movies I haven’t seen before. The problem is that I can’t get back to watching your broad selection because your app has this glitch of not listing any of the movies you have on my Roku streaming stick and my Samsung smart tv. Please resolve this so I can check out the new movie selections for next month since I’ve missed the last two months because of this setback. Thanks!

I have been trying to use this on 5 different devices. In every one there are glitches, freezes, error codes on some. Very frustrating. I really wish Sony would offer more of its older shows (Family Channel) in a digital format, with closed captioning. I’d be willing to pay but so many aren’t available anywhere. I’d also like to see foreign Sony entertainment available with English subtitles. Even newer stuff. Sad they don’t tap into that.

I think they make it glitch to blank screen on purpose so you have to uninstall/ reinstall that gives them a higher number of installations! I’m sick of constantly having to uninstall/ reinstall to watch tv shows! Fix your app!!! I have Crackle on my iphone! Some tv shows don’t play consistently. Like “Just shoot me!” It will play fine one day. Then the next time I try to watch, all I get is a blank screen when I select an episode. I the delete Crackle and reinstall and it works fine again for awhile very frustrating to keep doing this just to watch a few programs.

great service ghats free and not hard to use. pretty much easy to sign up and not much adds . i guess the add views pays for our free membership and really not a big deal but great service so far. def a keeper and added to my stream of movies apps as top 3 in my opinion and hope nothing changes as most other services charge u a-lot for not a big library selections to view. Keep it up and def will recommend this to all my friends :)

Subtitle problem seems like fixed. Thank you so much. But there should be a way to get rid of the ads that are not for us. I do really look for a new car, I really appreciate for that much accuracy but I would never buy a nissan ultima and I hate this incredibly stupid ad. Who is affected of that stupid ad kids??? I don’t think think so, they are smarter than us.. Maybe it’s an investment to the future generations. But not me, please let me out of this stupid car ad.

No problems using Crackle or streaming movies. The only reason for the low rating is the ads. I understand free comes with ads, but I was made to watch 60 ads during a 1hr 47min movie. 30 mins of ads. A little extreme. I expect to see ads during free streaming, but not taken advantage of to the point the movie isn’t enjoyable. I watch half the amount of ads on my paid cable subscription.

I love the content on Crackle but the quality of Crackle itself leaves much to be desired. Especially one managed by Sony I believe. I have it on my Roku, and iPad and the sluggishness of showing movies and tv is irritating and movies have been prone to buffer after the ads have ended. There have been times that the buffering has taken so long I have given up on continuing trying to watch anything. Again the content is fantastic but Crackle itself needs better backend support to help it run smoother.

I just tried this app again recently across two different Roku devices I own and my iPad. I received unknown error when trying to use on iPad. One Roku device worked ok but is glitchy when switching to ads. It loads forever then only a portion of the ad is actually shown. I started watching a movie on one device and then it wouldn’t come up on another an hour later. It said the video had expired... too many irregularities for me so I will go elsewhere even though this app was the only place I could apparently watch the classic, Alien from 1979, for free.
