Useless

this app is useless if it simply craps out and crashes each time I record and submit a melody played on my mandolin. 99¢ wasted.

Tunepal

Just purchased Tunepal. Tried to submit two tunes. Message said NSXML error 65. What gives?

Love this app but won’t function for me

This is a great invaluable app. When it worked., but it stopped being able to record to my last iPhone several years ago. I tried u uninstalling but could never get it completely uninstalled. Asked for help several times and got none. On my new iPhone I have the same problem. Can’t seem to uninstall in order to try a fresh version. So sad.

It use to work…

Use to work great, but now it records and then crashes.

Doesn’t record

Just purchased and downloaded the original version on my iPad, which told me it was compatible. It doesn’t work. It doesn’t record. I’m a decent fiddle player, it should recognize tunes. But Tunepal is completely unresponsive. It doesn’t record. My iPad is the 2018 model, fairly current. Don’t buy Tunepal , if you have an iPad it appears incompatible.

???

I’ve tapped all over the screen and it does not record

Freezes on use

It appears Tunepal had not been updated in quite some time, and the record/analyze features no longer function.

Just bought this, and it keeps crashing

Hi! I don’t want to leave a negative review but could you please fix this issue. When it finally records a tune it always comes up with a connection error….

Un-useable :(

Crashing on search

Have always loved using Tunepal, but it now crashes on every search and is unusable.

Submitting then shuts down

Love, loved Tunepal. Used it all the time. Now it records, says it is submitting, but then closes with no response. So sad :(

Abandoned?

No updates in years, and it fails completely on iOS 17.5. It was great while it lasted.

Please fix bugs!

It used to work but the last update was 5 years ago. It crashes when I try to record, when I press on the preferences, when I press on the map, when I try to save a tune to my list. Luckily, saving to my list works after I re-open Tunepal , but it had to crash before I can do that. Maybe new iOS upgrades have rendered Tunepal obsolete?

Glitchy

Ive enjoyed Tunepal for some time but it is now buggy. I play a tune into it and after " listening" it closes out. Or I look at sheetmusic in landscape mode and scroll down to find the bottom half missing. Restarting the phone doesnt help.

What happen to Ipad compatability?

I was running this app on my iiphone and pad and found it to be a good app. Implemented on an ipad, It's particularly good for finding tunes and displaying them quickly. Tunepal works reasonably well on the iphone at sessions - particularly for tunes where a flute or whistle is dominant.
I recently had to restore my ipad and was surprised to see a message that said that this app is no longer an ipad app. There is no way to load it on the ipad. What happened? This is a useful app but I'm confused about why it suddenly became an iphone only app.

Won’t record on iPad

But then I bought the HD version for .99 cents and it works just fine. 😉 Definitely worth another buck. I’ve had Tunepal for many years on many devices.

Great tool for ITM players

this app is a must have app for me as I know over 600 tunes but have difficulty remembering tune names.

It’s not perfect, but when a tune is played well and precisely it’s uncanny in how well it works.

Uncanny.

This is the first app I bought as soon as I got my iPhone. I'd been using the online version of this app, and am super-thrilled to have it on my phone now. If you've ever found yourself with an unidentified traditional Irish tune on your hands, this handy app could save you untold aggravation.

Does it work? Yes, and uncannily well. I've tested it on a few tunes and its accuracy so far has been 100%, for both well-known and more obscure tunes. You can play at any tempo, put in variations, even make a few mistakes. I don't know what's more impressive; that Tunepal manages to extract the melody, or that it manages to find a match, even if the database version is quite different. Not only does it work for solo instruments (I tried it on flute), but I've also seen it work quite well in a noisy pub, with several musicians playing their own versions and variations at once.

I agree with caoimghgin's review: Killer. App.

Works great for me

I bought an Ipod touch, to do a little surfing, and to try out some apps. This is the first $ for money app I bought, and I LOVE it. I have had many revelations, as I know a lot of tunes that are "Gan Ainm" around here, and it's hard to get "sets" worked out and get my friends to play them, when they don't know the names, or what key I am in. I am lazy about figuring what key something is in because I play the fiddle, and all the notes are at my disposal all the time. Now I've started making note cards with my favorite sets, with the keys on them, and I can shuffle them like a deck incase someone wants to nag me for a set list. It feels really great when my ipod not only names a tune, but can play back to me, a tune that I wasn't sure was even real for years. It really feels like a "Pal" for a second.

I have the Gen 4 Ipod and only use a wi-fi here at the house in Alaska. Works fabulously.

Recognizes Thousands of Irish Tunes

I've used this app in various forms for several years; started with it back when it was running on "Palm" and "PocketPC" devices. I've never had a problem with it on my iPhone or iPad and it is currently installed on my iPhone 5s running iOS 7.1.1.

I see it used often at Irish music sessions when an unfamiliar tune is played by someone present. It almost always identifies the tune in question and the sheet music reference it provides allows confirmation.

Well worth the money in my opinion.

Great and very useful app. Needs reliable back-end

This is such a useful app for finding Irish tune names in a session (or even out of your head, if you can play a snippet of the tune on an instrument but can’t recall the title).
It does have frequent back-end outages, which prevents tune name lookups and is annoying. It will save them as “Unsubmitted tags” that you can upload later for ID. But by then the moment is usually gone. Hopefully the developer can remedy this issue. Would even be worth a small annual subscription ($5-10) if more money would buy a better backend service.
