Unlike other local-deal apps, such as Groupon and LivingSocial, which let you access deals when your device is offline, ScoutMob requires a live Internet connection. It won't show you the coupon unless your device is online and can confirm your location using GPS. So if you have an iPod Touch, and the place you're going doesn't have free wifi, HandPickedAtlanta is useless. Naturally, I discovered this when I was *at* the deal location. Bummer.
I'm guessing this is to keep people from gaming the "return perks" feature? But in that case, why offer HandPickedAtlanta for iPod Touch at all? Just say, "iPhone only" and tell everyone else they have to use the SMS coupons. This caveat appears in the ScoutMob FAQ but not on HandPickedAtlanta 's page in the iTunes store.
Better yet, why not let everyone use the deals while offline, but make it so that "return perks" work only for those with a Internet connection?
