Was working at one point....

Just switched back to the iPhone 8 from a Galaxy 8+, game worked when I signed into my iTunes and it pulled all the stuff I had on my iPhone 4S , however after the iOS updated the game is completely dead. Every time I tap to open it just closes it. I managed to load it the other day but when I got in all the previous game saves that was from when I first downloaded it to this phone ended up being corrupted so all my progress is lost. Please fix this and please restore my game saves, I was almost done with this game cause I spent a lot of time on it.

Needs controller software update

Hate how you can only use controller joystick to drive car but you can’t use controller joystick to walk because it makes me not want to play this game that I spent my hard earned money. If I knew you would have never fixed this since controller support came out I would have never bought this game. Plus iPhone 14 Pro Max cuts off corner of game and makes it hard to click on virtual buttons or cuts off name of area on bottom left screen. So plz fix controller and screen resolution asap

Update blows

Although the story mode is great as always, a few aspects of the original game have been altered with the the most recent updates this year. Hijacking cars has become very difficult due to the game has a hard time picking up finger motions. Next several unique cars you were able to buy or find have disappeared, now those cars bear their name as before, but all are almost identical which is lame. There is also no in game option to cancel a mission while it has started. I really hate this update. Not like how I remember it a few years ago.

Used to be a good game

This was my first this app game, and i loved it. I recently got it again to to relive memories, but i noticed something that ruined the game. The driving was horrible, the steering is just too slow too react. Also, im pretty sure a long time ago you could customize the button size and positions, but now you cant. This makes the buttons (and analog) too small to navigate your character. I do wish the drug dealing was added to other this app games, like going up to dealers and buying and selling stuff. This game was pretty good, but the movement controls just makes it way too hard to play.

Didn’t finish because of controls.

This game is fun and all, until you try to do any of the challenges that involve combat. Good luck with the gun club, especially. Combat is a complete disaster, there’s no aiming, you’re lucky if you can actually shoot the target you need to. You go to shoot someone in front of you, and your guy either locks on to someone in the complete opposite direction, or your bullets just phase through the target because you’re too close. I get it’s an aged handheld game, but you’d think there would be a better lock on system for the touch screen.

Great game, my personal favorite GTA

I love this app Chinatown Wars, and it's nice to see that it's been kept up to date. I've played through this game a couple of times—on my PSP, and the on my iPod touch. Now I'm playing on my new iPad, but something kind of bugs me.

The PSP version had noticeably better graphics than the iOS version at the time. While that isn't quite the case now (as the iOS version can run at much higher, crisper resolutions), the PSP version still has better lighting effects. Night had a great atmosphere in the PSP version, especially during police chases. In this version, night just feels flat. The lack of the lighting effects that are in the PSP version doesn't make much sense to me considering how much more powerful iOS devices are compared to it, but oh well. Would be great if those were added in.

Great game overall

I think this game is really cool and fun and has quite of bit of content for an iOS game. I played this on my psp and on iOS and they're great. No complains really.

A few things to take into consideration to make this game a lot more fun and entertaining:

It would be cool to customize your character's shirt and pants color. Although we don't see much of him, like I said, that'd be cool.

One last thing is that on the psp, this game is multiplayer (I think, last time I checked). If rockstar can make the game multiplayer on iOS, this this app Chinatown wars would be 20x better! At least 2 players, but make it multiplayer!

Great game overall, add these features and you'll get 5 stars for sure!

Great game ,but...

The game is great, exactly like what it was on NDS platform. And the programming is also great, very limited bugs and perfectly suits multi-task system. However, the game controlling can be terrible at times, the pedal button fails sometimes and it could drive me crazy! And the aiming system could be huge problem as well due to the natural drawbacks of using screen rather than game controllers or actual buttons. A fantastic game anyway

Good but one small problem

When I’m in a fire truck, ambulance or cop car and I turn on my sirens cars don’t move out of the way. So it’s hard to make it through traffic without crashing because your going really fast. If you are looking for a good this app game this is a unique game. It’s 3D in a 2D view? You get what I’m saying?? Overall very good game but can you upgrade how the building and other things look. They look really blurry

I love this game

Pros
1. Brings me back to my childhood playing this app 1 and 2.
2. Much better graphics than the DS version.
3. No wifi or data required to play. I can literally play this game anywhere.

Cons
1. Buttons are a bit small and close together. Instead of braking/reversing, sometimes I’ll shoot or jump out of the vehicle.
2. The wanted level stars are very tiny.
3. The Independence (custom) radio station keeps playing the same song from the beginning every time I exit and enter the vehicle.
4. I can’t find a way to message Rockstar Games to report bugs.

Bug
1. When talking to a drug dealer there is a star if there is a special deal and a red down arrow if the price is bad or good. There is no green up arrow so you have to check every drug individually to see if there will be a profit.

This game need full screen

I live this game so much even the full Retina display was amazing and it makes the games graphics look like a console game and it just need full screen support and if you can high up the sound and make it surround sound with the iPhone X and up speakers and add this app Vice city stories to mobile please rockstar and keep up the great work just show the same attention you do to console to mobile

I am SO impressed by this top-down GTA game

I never particularly liked the original this app and this app II too down games in the franchise, so I had always been hesitant to try this one. But after recently playing and beating this app III, Vice City, San Andreas, and Liberty City Stories (getting 100% completion on them all except III) I had to try this one out. And let me say I LOVE IT. I love the cel-shaded graphics, the game looks so cool and charming. I love that the game upholds mature themes despite having been made for a Nintendo portable console originally and it makes clever use of the touch screen compatibility for unique gameplay and features. This game is awesome.

Rockstar really blessed us by making these games on iOS and I am going to be so sad when I no longer have any other ones to beat and master. Give us Vice City Stories on mobile, Rockstar!!

How do I get my Apple Music to work

When the game was added to this app+ I have been trying to hear my own music in the game from Apple Music. I named my playlist this app as this is what I was told needed to be done. But it is still not working and there are no new explanations on how to make it work anywhere. If someone could please explain to me how to do this in 2023 that would be nice.

Change

I am very happy to announce that rockstar has done right by us and updated thier game no longer will we have to suffer through long load times during drug dealing missions cutscenes ect and a great game has been saved from the depths for everyone to enjoy. As a fan who has played almost every installment of the this app series i am glad that rockstar does not forget about thier older games.

Needs cloud saves and button mapping

Great game all around, but my this game really needs a cloud save feature as well as custom button mapping for controllers now that Xbox and Dualshock 4 support is coming in iOS 13. This would greatly improve gameplay for me personally. I want to use the triggers to drive and shoot. Also the ability to control steering sensitivity is a must. Its too sensitive at the moment on controller.

Update: Frame Rate Issue Fixed

I previously had issues with the game not working on the 120Hz displays on iPhone 13/14 Pro, however this issue is no longer present. An iOS update might have fixed this, as Rockstar has not released an update in over 4 years, but alas the game works as it should, and I can once again highly recommend it.

An amazing game, made by an amazing company

A little while back the game broke. It wouldn’t run, load, or do anything really. I wrote a review about it, explaining the problem and how the game was good. Skip ahead a little bit and I get a response, Rockstar fixed their game. This put a genuine smile on my face. It’s a rare sight to see a triple A company care about the fans so much. This game gets five stars for the game, and the amazing company behind it. It is well worth the price!

Great story!! ( especially at the end ) and very unique GTA

this app Chinatown Wars is one of my favorite games the story is really good it’s different from other this app’s it’s fun trading drugs and driving is difficult at first but when you get the hang of it you’ll enjoy all the other unique things that other this app’s don’t have. In my opinion it’s much more playable then other this app’s for iPhone such as San Andreas it’s to annoying to shoot and walk or do anything but Chinatown wars is very playable and fun it was definitely worth it

I’m honestly surprised

I’m playing this on an iPhone 13 and it’s running beautifully. I took caution when reading the reviews and seeing a lot of people having problems getting the game to work. I can safely say that through my entire play thru, I have not had any crashes or bugs that were game breaking. I have my reluctance with the other this app games being on mobile because of the controls but this game fits perfectly within a touch screen platform. I recommend this this app on iOS and believe Rockstar should expand on this idea in the future. There’s potential to making a good this app top down mobile game.

Wish it had a bit more

By the title i meant i wish the frame rate could be boosted a bit and i did get a crash during the mission “Payback” when a gang member got in a car and sped away. Other than those things, i’m really happy this is game is still being sold. Same with Liberty City Stories.
