Best Goal App I’ve Found

I’ve tried many goal tracking apps and I always come back to Habit Factor. My main criteria for rating an app is: does it do what it’s supposed to do without a lot of fuss and irrelevant bells a and whistles? This one does.

Great new interface

Love the new wizard! Interface is intuitive. Much improved.

I Own Every Goal App; This 1 thing; misleading

Update: Wow! Equilibrium has been hard at work! Thanks, I'd write a review, but it'd be just reiterating the beautiful points on TheHabitFactor description. As long as your goal app is fun to use, and you can focus, you can't do much better than that. Thanks Equil-Ent!

Sep. 09: I maybe jumping the gun, but v1.5 which seems to address my previous issues isn't on TheHabitFactor store yet.. I added a star for good luck.

Aug. 09: Until TheHabitFactor can mark a badge for items due for that day only, this is a three star app. I suggest touch Goal, for that. What TheHabitFactor does better than touch goal is make it attractive to track goals. Touch Goal is more functional. These are great competitors, but Touch Goal is the Flagship app, an example would be a Bomber (Touch Goal) vs. a Fighter Plane( Habit Factor). The Bomber will get the job done, but what's the fun in that? The Fighter plane is fun to fly, fast, but needs more precision. Without the added functionality of being able to set in the badge the items due for the day, Habit Factor is like a Fighter Plane without any missiles. You can get by, maybe, but eventually you're gonna want to ditch TheHabitFactor .

Please release a Habit Factor Pro if you need motivation to purchase to develop TheHabitFactor, it's beautiful and fun, but it has a fatal flaw.

Good but not good enough

TheHabitFactor is a great idea with sub-par implementation. The biggest problem stems from the confusing way in which one must tell the program that the daily habits have been done . . . one must scroll through ALL of the habits EVERY day to check off the correct ones, but TheHabitFactor doesn't tell you which ones you're SUPPOSED to be doing that day. The programmers explain this by saying that you have the OPTION of doing each habit every day, which is true. But still, the only way of being reminded of what you're supposed to be doing is to exit the tracking screen completely and look into the details of EVERY SINGLE HABIT.

Another weird thing is that the icon for TheHabitFactor shows up with a highlighted (red-circled) "9," which doesn't change no matter what I click in TheHabitFactor .

One suggestion: I have some habits with the POTENTIAL of having to be done every day but may not have to be done. Examples: shipping packages for my web site and cleaning the kitchen. If I DON'T do them when they don't need to be done, it screws up the whole rating. I don't know how this would be addressed in the paradigm of the software.

Another thought: This would be a more useful program if it contained regular to-dos, as well. As it is, I now have to look in two places to find out what I'm supposed to be doing.

Simplicity in it's most positive form

The Habit Factor is a very useful tool for anyone who desperately wants to create more order, integration, continuity, and self-confidence in their lives but have felt severely frustrated and demoralized because they have either used countless "programs" to no avail or because they feel as if their lives won't change for the better until they find the "perfect" system, left in a perpetual, never-ending search for a panacea. The Habit Factor will help you to get rid of this type of thinking by encouraging you to keep things simple. Start small, say set a habit for 1 week to take a multi-vitamin every morning, then check it off after you take it. It may sound silly or too simple, but you won't believe the satisfaction felt after seeing your 7-day streak of accomplishing your daily habit. Motivation kicks in, and, gradually, you won't be able to resist adding more and more meaningful habits. And who knows, maybe you'll even realize what goals are important to you based on the habits you become motivated to track.

This is, without a doubt, the best $4.00 I ever spent!

This is, without a doubt, the best $4.00 I ever spent (it doesn't even bother me that I missed the sale!) Habit tracker has plugged the leaks in my to do list and now things that used to slip into overdue status are getting done. I can see real progress towards achieving some very important goals.

Any criticisms would be small or cosmetic. 1) I would like to see a chart option in addition to the bar graph in the overview section of TheHabitFactor . 2) I don't quite understand why we must update our goal status manually in the goal setup screen. Perhaps it's a difficult thing to program, but it seems to me that these are the kinds of computations computers do best and its implementation in this context would make a lot of sense. 3) The splash page and logo are "not very pretty" which is a shame because the other UI elements are clean straight forward and easy to work with.

All that being said, TheHabitFactor has had a big impact on my productivity in a relatively short period of time, and I would highly recommend it.

Awsome app!!! but with a few glitch

This is the only app that I would recommend getting at the price it is set for. It is very intuitive app. As you do the habits you build up your goal and it has a nice chart to display the graph. The only thing that I am concern about is when you do delete a goal you can NEVER use that same EXACT name again.

It is kind of annoying but I just put a space before title to fix that problem. Other thing that I was disappointed in was that there was no transfer data from the lite Version to the full version, really would have loved to see that( thank goodness that I didn't have that much data to start off with ^^). Other than the two glitch I have name, this is a great app for anyone who is really trying to keep to there goals and who are goal orientated

Old Dog, New Tricks

A friend recommended THF as a training tool for my first marathon. That was over a year ago and I've run several races since with favorable results. In February I suffered a high ankle sprain and was told not to run for 4-6 months or after I completed physical therapy. For any of you that have experienced PT you know that it usually involves several sessions with an actual therapist with the majority of the time spent on your own completing a series of stretches, exercises and ice.

I used THF to create a new game plan and found that with the "streaks" feature it actually made PT more manageable and entertaining, tracking my results against my regimen; I was also able to email my productivity charts to my therapist. After about two months on the elliptical and treadmill I was cleared for running on the streets and just ran the San Francisco Half Marathon. Thanks HF, great tool!

Excellent App!

This is an excellent app for those that are interested in setting goals and tracking progress. I have found different ways to make use of TheHabitFactor , too. For example, something I found really helpful was to print out my work related results so I could share them at meetings. Another example, at one point I was having trouble implementing a specific habit so I deleted every habit except for the one I was having trouble with. This helped me to simplify my schedule and focus on what was most important at the time. The result was that I quickly integrated that habit into my daily schedule!

I first downloaded the free version, but soon after purchased the full version. It's a very smart investment for people that are interested in making self improvements on a short-term as well as long-term basis. I highly recommend it.

On track!! Just what I was hoping for with updates

-Update- I was able to use the latest update without any problems... Thoughtful, powerful app that requires some setup and offers solid easy to use interface.

TheHabitFactor is just what I needed to keep myself in check. It even enabled me to stop some of my bad habits so I can make it through flu season alive and keep training for my next event. I was surprised at how motivated I was to complete my daily goals just so I could mark it off for that day. I like the ability to add comments, especially on my off days, giving me visibility to my progress and behavioral patterns. I was able to start using TheHabitFactor right away, without having to contemplate such mind bending questions like "what do I want to be when I grow up".

Very useful app

Using TheHabitFactor as a virtues / habits tracker since I already use Things for tracking goals and to-dos. After spending 45 minutes reviewing the other apps and their features I picked this one because of its features and ease of use. Two suggested features for the next version: 1) a line graph (like the one in Habit Check) would be much more motivational to me to see that I have been successful for many days in a row (similar concept to the Streaks app) and a sense of progress over time; 2) being able to record "practice tips" (similar to the Virtues Reflection Cards) and being able to view them before I check off the habit for the day would make sure that I was staying true to the original intent of the habit.

Over all a very good app and I'm looking forward to future releases.

powerful and easily worth 2 bucks.

what I like. I like this idea of tracking habits aligned to goals as a science. call it whatever you want, (read there is a more scientific term than the Habit Alignement Technology), it works.. study after study shows the "magic" behind writing down goals and tracking the pursuit and steps along the way.... I'm an avid believer of the idea and really like that TheHabitFactor makes doing this very simple. highly recommend.
what I would like to see improved in version 2: reminders via sms or email. somebody said it on another review. create the habit, not track it. still this is light years beyond my old school method for writing down goals and checking them off...

This is a VERY good application, it works well with other life planning

This application is a good base application with the support of other applications to generally improve your life. The other types of applications you should look at are:

1) This base habit application to start you in getting into habits
2) A solid to-do application that you can use to record your goals
3) Map out your 3 month-6 month-1 year-5 year-10 year goals
4) A solid calendar application that you use to track your schedule and also record items that you want to do when (for things specific like plan out day)

In all this don't forget to plan out fun time. And keep things flexible.

Good app--needs an upgrade

I used this for several years and found it quite helpful. Over that time my only complaint was that it loaded slowly and the picture would just hang there for several seconds. But it was, and is, effective for tracking habits.

However, I've moved on. TheHabitFactor has not been updated in forever. I was using TheHabitFactor before the invention of the iPad and iCloud. Now, I've become spoiled with apps in other categories that I can seamlessly use on either a phone or tablet with the data syncing up (some apps even have desktop versions too). So I've started using other apps to track habits. I haven't found the perfect one yet--if Habit Factor updated to multi-platform syncing, it just might be perfect. I'd even be willing to spend a few dollars again to get such upgrade.

Goals and habits get done.

If you get a good feeling when you check off something on your to-do list, then TheHabitFactor will help you achieve your big goals. Spend the time to set up your dreams and figure out what daily behavior will move you towards achieving them. You can add habits without big long-term goals The time spans are flexible.

I wish I could set it up to be the first thing that opens when I turn on the iPhone. I make do by having a calendar reminder pop up to check off the tracking list boxes in the morning, at lunch time, and early evening.

Chose the behaviors that will get you results in your life, and the tracking stats won't be the only place you'll see satisfying results.

one of the best, and soooo close to 5 stars (fix suggested)

I've been looking for what you've created for myself and my clients for some time. It is great and there is a MUST ADD feature. Maybe it replaces your Overview or is a reporting function within it.

I am a professional coache and have clients track things just like you suggest here, AND seeing performance on a weekly basis across all Habits is VITAL to have this tool be fully usable. There are other functions to create and helpful coaching that can go with it, but this function is sorely needed.

Happy to discuss. Thanks for a great tool, and PLEASE get to work on #1 and I will broadcast its utility far and wide!

I really dislike how dates are handled.

I just purchased. Went to put in my first goal: earn associates degree. Excited to commit this goal that I have worked hard for to writing. App requires me to enter a start date and end date (would much rather just leave open ended). Fine, I have been working on this goal since January, and hope to complete sometime next year, not sure exactly when (depends on when classes are available). However, I cannot put in dates before today (irritating), and have to enter a completion date. I don't know when it will be completed! Maybe April? Maybe August? Very dispiriting. Instead of forcing your customer to adapt to your app, app should adapt to customer. Don't force a date on the goals. Allow customer to leave open ended if they want. Will try a different app instead. Hopefully app improves in future release. Otherwise, $7 wasted.

Great idea, ok app

Overall its a great idea and smooth interface but at best TheHabitFactor is increasingly difficult to grasp. The things that arent due today still show up on todays list, they are even accounted for in the badge, which is kinda silly. Its sys you have more to do but you really dont. Why am I forced to pick an end date for every habit? What if I want it on going. As well as sticking habits to specific days. Below are a couple of sugesstions. I was hoping for a more drastic revision for this update but nothing came about

1) instead of habits being locked to days have another option as well to have them set every couple days, then if you complete it it's another couple of days. This would e especially good for the goals portion

2) If data is input that it is multiple times daily then have that many check marks in that day. Not one check for 3 occurances.

3) Have a way to check off your goals per day in a list view so you can see all you goals and focus on them.

4) badge should refect remaining habits for that day only, look at "habits" for this and 1)

All in all thi is a great app. It would push it to 5 stars with those changes. Good luck!

Wow

Like most people, perhaps more than most, I tend to procrastinate. The ability to live up to your commitments, to others and perhaps more importamtly to yourself is one of the keys to life. It is not always easy and like most worthwhile things in life perhaps shouldn't be easy. This application, with a commitment to yourself, enables you to drive the essential habits that are part of your life. Feed the habit and it will ultimately come back to benefit you. Don't use this application unless you're ready to make a commitment to yourself, it will make you look bad. I love it, especailly this update, with a passion!! Great work.

The Habit Factor rocks!

TheHabitFactor is everything I was looking for in a personal goal tracking system. Tha easy and intuitive navigation guided me through setting up my goals and creating associated habits that I can create to meet them over time. I also find the goal tracking statistics and summaries very helpful. I've tried a lot of different systems but having TheHabitFactor on my phone puts the reminders right in front of me when I'm making my schedule and checking my email. At less than five bucks it was a no-brainer for me and is one of my most used apps.
