Don’t Bother / Update

I was surprised to hear from FoursquareCityGuide developer who managed to get back about half my information which made things a little better so I upped my rating from 1 star to 3. I am still missing my reviews. I recently took the time to review Shawarma and Gyro Express. There was zero information on this recently opened restaurant. I took photos of the menu, the restaurant and left an excellent review because I love this place, but it’s not in my liked places. The incomplete menus are still an issue. I’m missing all my out of town stuff from Boston to Virginia Beach. If I take the time to review and add photos, id like to be able to access those, so still disappointed. I also noticed that the reviews are characters limited with no warnings. You can’t give a good review and include all the good stuff in a few sentences. I loved URBAN SPOON and wish it were modeled more after that.

Very disappointed. FoursquareCityGuide recently had an overhaul and in the process, I not only lost all my saved (to try) places but also my favorites. I have left a few reviews on the new app to help populate it but I can’t even access that either. Now when I look for something all I get are incomplete restaurant profiles with no menus. It’s been months since the update and most restaurants are asking us to update photos, menu etc. Surely in this day and age, the transition to the new format should have seamlessly integrated the old data.

Can’t delete individual history entries

Hi guys! What’s going on with FoursquareCityGuide lately? For a couple of months now I’ve been unable to delete entries from my history. These entries were added by background location tracking but they don’t correspond to places I’ve actually been. They account for 10-20% of the places in my history and I want to clean them up. I’ve tried both “no, and remove from my history option” when selecting a place, and also swipe to the left and delete on the history screen. In both cases, the locations are still in the list when I refresh and even after lots of time has passed. This part of FoursquareCityGuide really needs a some testing and UX love.

Foursquare deleted all my lists

I've been using Foursquare and Swarm since 2013 and carefully curated lists of all my favorite places in some 10 cities around the globe since then. One day I opened FoursquareCityGuide and was shocked that all the lists I had created were gone. When I contacted customer service, they said this was because they had flagged my account for not following house rules. I use Foursquare/Swarm almost every day, so this struck me as odd. I read the house rules and confirmed I hadn't violated any of them. The developer said they would restore my lists. A week later, when none of my lists were back, I followed up. The developer said they had deleted all my lists by mistake when they placed the flag on the account! I'm deeply disappointed in FoursquareCityGuide , and never coming back.

Superuser(?) frustration

Despite having used 4sq for over 10 years, left 600+ tips, uploaded 700+ photos, achieved 20+ different “expertises”, and made 1000+ edits & corrections, I find it annoying to be stuck at superuser level 1 when I see other users with noticeably fewer contributions who sit at higher levels of recognition. I find I get a lot more reward for a lot less activity as a Google Local Guide, despite presumably competing with a much larger population there. It just seem like Foursquare is not very invested in its users. The quality of the reviews is top-notch, but the data on new places and closed places is severely lagging: perhaps if users were more motivated to contribute, as in my case.

A shadow of former glory...

Up until about a week ago I always considered Foursquare a more functional & aesthetically pleasing alternative to Yelp, however, that ship has sailed with the removal of the “Expertise” system.

Removal of the “Expertise” system did a handful of really detrimental things: removing the ability to easily know if a user was reliable, removing a great organizational system for your tips, & removing a fun sense of progression. This update really killed Foursquare for me, & that’s with it already lingering behind Yelp in terms of users & current data.

TLDR: Foursquare lost a lot of functionality in a recent update. It’s not worthwhile & you should focus your energy & time on Yelp.

Fully Broken

FoursquareCityGuide doesn’t even get as far as an account login/sign up. It’s immediately “oops something went wrong” followed by a blank screen with a loading animation that never goes away.

I submitted a bug report but the process to do so was so cumbersome and unclear, I’m not sure if my bug report was even captured. This problem persists through using WiFi and cellular data and after re-installing FoursquareCityGuide from scratch.

I’m a software engineer and this is pretty terrible guys. I was ready to replace Yelp with this because I’m simply tired of Yelp, but that’s not possible if the extent of your app’s functionality is an error message and a blank loading screen.

Used to be good

Used to prefer this over the Yelp app, but it’s now fallen behind. The core design is still nice, but new venues show up on Yelp much sooner than they do in Foursquare (if at all). To make matters worse, FoursquareCityGuide has been throwing errors for some time when trying to add a venue manually, or edit a venue to make suggestions (such as when a venue has closed permanently, to add hours, a location, etc).

These errors were reported to the Foursquare team almost five months ago and have still not been addressed. It really does feel like Foursquare’s pivot has left the original app on life support.

Picture shown part

I really need to choose which part of picture is shown in my page before anyone click “specially when the picture is vertical”. Sometimes the only part displayed in my page is the street not the food. I think it will make picture more attractive for others to click on. Thank you!

Nicer than Yelp

Have been wanting Foursquare to get on the stick and start meaningfully competing with Yelp, and it seems that they finally have. Came back to check out FoursquareCityGuide again after a significant hiatus, and it is pretty nice now. Easy to use, integrates info updates into the reviewing process, visually appealing, etc. Pretty pleased so far. Going to try switching over to it for a while and see how it goes.

A shell of its former glory that sells your data

If it’s rated 8-10 on here it’s likely a 2-3 Star yelp review and not worth your time. Also make sure you turn off all push notifications because they will spam you via them often with recommendations to try for places thousands of miles away that you’ve already been to or would never go to.

Literally the only thing Foursquare exists for anymore is to try to track your location 24/7 to seek you to other companies. There is zero value left in their recommendation engine and the way they openly flaunt selling your location for nothing to everyone is horrifying.

Still Great

Foursquare has changed (pivoted?) a few times since I first installed it years ago. But it is still great and still really useful on a daily basis. Yelp and Foursquare honestly both belong on my phone. They give a broader perspective on the restaurants and other places in my area. Foursquare’s recommendation engine in particular can sometimes uncover places I specifically would like. That’s worth something!

That did not work

I downloaded the program three times with the same results. The program starts and then a popup appears stating “Oops something went wrong” then a red circle starts rotating. The last time I tried to run the program when red circle started I placed the phone down on the table and checked it after one hour still circling then at two then three hours with the same thing going on. I then checked before going to bed still circling, got up in the morning and closed and removed the program as a lost cause. I’m now going to try something else to use with my Garmin RV780 for our travels.

One of the best apps I’ve ever used...

So thoughtful the way it’s set up, it gets right to the point when you open FoursquareCityGuide and are looking for something like coffee or food. It reminds me of Yelp (one of my most common go to apps), but better. I can get right to what I’m searching for so quickly, very impressive!!!

Very intuitive and user friendly...love the rating system, better than others!!!

Eh, outdated, but still useful

From the UI to the actual content of FoursquareCityGuide everything is rather outdated.

While it does lists a lot of businesses and many great tips and reliable ratings it all seems a bit old. There are businesses listed that are out of business for a couple of years now. The tips are all a couple of years old as well.

The UI has a lot of small text and tiny controls. It seems to ignore my system font size settings.

Very inaccurate data

I got FoursquareCityGuide because I needed to manage information about my business listing. In order to do that I had to pay $20 to claim my own business listing. In addition I had to pay $20 for a listing of a business that was in my same location so that I could close it out.

In the process of verifying my data I discovered at least 4 additional listings in my area that are obsolete, at least 3 of them are 6 years out of date.

I can not recommend FoursquareCityGuide because the data is simply incorrect. There are better apps than this if you’re looking for local info.

This App is Garbage

I’ve been trying for hours to get FoursquareCityGuide to update a location that I’m trying to use with Twitter for a business-related tweet. Not only does the location not show up on Twitter, but when I go in FoursquareCityGuide to create the location it tells me that it’s already been created. Then when I go to the created page for my business location and try to update the info, all the updates get wiped after hitting save. What even is the point of FoursquareCityGuide and service/company existing if it can’t do any basic edits such as these. C’mon.

My travel and "Having Fun Place to go Pal"🥂✌🏻

Excellent tool for people like me that loves to visit new places, enjoy tastes and have adventures. This reminds me restaurants, bars, cities, etc... that I love and those I didn't fall in love that much so I can also give tips to my friends and social media.
I simply love Foursquare❤️ makes me feel the Magic of Traveling more intense and to find hidden places I will never knew ❤️🌟🥂

Good app but needs to notify on location faster

It’s a great app to write reviews and rate a place on Nans about the experience but it can be slow at times with the updates on the places you’ve been to. Slow as in the places registering in the where you’ve been and how fast it should show up with FoursquareCityGuide . Other than that it’s a wonderful application!

Find gems. that will find you!

Foursquare has been constantly evolving.
Now it’s a resource to discover cool places to visit, from sightseeing to great dining, local staples, hidden gems... all over the world!! It’s fantastic to get their recommendations when you arrive in a new city or neighborhood, so you feel like you have bases everywhere... I know there are more features to discover and I can’t wait!

Great app, consistent UX improvements!

Step aside Yelp, Foursquare is coming for you. Foursquare is by no means new, but they have stepped up their iOS and web app experience big time. It's snappy and clear it's under continuous development. My only gripe is the last update made getting to the maps and hours a little more convoluted, but you get used to it. Tell your friends!

Pollo Lico

This place is Great if your looking for some Great chicken. More of a local known spot if you are into those type of restaurants. I would definitely pick this place over the more Traditional Pollo loco. The place dose not have much seating inside. There is a billiards next to it where you can also play and order from there if you'd like to stay and have some drinks. As far as the other things on the menu. I have not yet tryed.
