I finally bought the $4.99 version of Solitaire City and now, for some unknown reason I just cannot win! I’ve been playing Solitaire with physical cards for about 55 years! I definitely know how to play and win. I do know some games allow you to choose if you want to win too. I don’t want that. I just want a random game, not fixed. And why am I always being signed in by cobalt… I own the game, I’d like to sign in as myself! This is a rip-off. This is not nice. But, just thought I would warn anyone thinking of purchasing the $4.99 version. I suspect the developer wants me to upgrade to a better and more expensive game. I like 3 cards dealt out and I never win. But, when I switched to 1 card, I started winning. It just doesn’t feel the same when only 1 card is dealt, instead of 3.
Okay but…
by NoLongerPlayingThisCrap
Less than half of the games dealt are not even hands that can be played out. I noticed a big change in how the game now deals, opposed to when I first started playing. Less than half of the games dealt are actually winnable. I also noticed that the deals vary greatly from a timed game to a non timed game. For all the people on the statuses of ranking that have all won in (ridiculously just over) one minute are all playing with hacks, so I don’t bother using the timed games anymore. My fastest time is about 2 1/2 minutes and that was making one move right after another so I know it’s literally impossible to win around the one minute mark without cheating. I purchased SolitaireCityAdFree because the apps are way to often and way annoying.
Quality games, but...
by Andrewman429
The games in SolitaireCityAdFree are high quality, but the only complaint about SolitaireCityAdFree is that the deals become increasingly difficult the more you play the games. When you first start out, the games are reasonably winnable, but the longer you play (ex: a couple hundred hands), the more frustratingly difficult it becomes to win a hand. I have tried deleting SolitaireCityAdFree and redownloading it about a dozen times, and that seems to reset the difficulty back to a reasonable level for a short time, but it doesn't take long before the difficulty becomes frustrating again. The game has a "Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)" that states their deals are "always random", but from my experience with several thousand rounds and about a dozen "delete and redownloads", this pattern seems way too consistent to merely be a coincidence. I will most likely be looking for a new Solitaire app.
Not thrilled
by IDontNeedNoStupidNickname
SolitaireCityAdFree mostly works okay, and graphics are good, I guess, but there are many annoyances. I had to turn sounds off entirely, because the effects were so childish and annoying, and couldn’t be controlled with a sufficient level of granularity (detail). I certainly don’t want noisemakers every time I win. I also don’t need or want to be told “It looks bad” sometimes when I’m about to lose, nor do I need “cute” messages when I pause a game. The latter two happen even without sound.
Basically, I’m not looking for a buddy. I just want it to deal the cards and keep score.
More importantly, it freezes sometimes for a few seconds and won’t let me turn over or move any cards. The timer keeps going, though. Sometimes it hangs long enough that I decide to reboot, although not too often. It also sometimes turns two cards when it is supposed to turn one, or turns another card when I’m just trying to drag the top one somewhere. It seems to be misreading my taps. Yes, you can undo these things, but it takes off points for that.
I play the game, it has entertainment value, but I don’t love it.
I play it all the time, but it needs improvements.

It’s pretty much the only decent app where you can play solitaire with no ads, which is great. It teaches you how to play every game, which is awesome. I don’t regret buying it at all. However, other apps have a much better interface. The game menu looks like it’s from 1995, and some games, like Spider, have unneeded and annoying animations while playing the game. The ability to turn those off would be great. Also, I could REALLY do without the insulting messages from the game after I complete a game, but my score happens to be below some unknown threshold. Solitaire should be a straightforward time-killer, not a stressful competition to make sure SolitaireCityAdFree doesn’t insult you at the end of the game.
Best value solitaire but scoring is different
by Yohedro
I have tried the other solitaire apps and I eventually got fed up with the ads and refused to pay a subscription to remove ads.
I love that SolitaireCityAdFree has a low one time purchase and no ads. However, it took a while to get used to the scoring. The other apps scoring is based on time and the total number of moves. SolitaireCityAdFree doesn’t tell you the number of moves. I had gotten used to the other apps and developed a strategy to minimize my number of moves by immediately moving cards to the foundation as soon as possible. After playing this game for a while I realized that you get extra points for moving cards from the stack to the tableau before moving them to the foundation. This is the opposite of what you want to do if you are trying to minimize moves.
You are also penalized for the number of cycles through the deck whereas if you are tracking moves, a deck cycle counts the same as any other move.
I wish that the non scoring mode would also tell you the number of moves you are taking.
Overall I am very pleased with this game and will continue using SolitaireCityAdFree for solitaire.
The scoring Becomes Increasingly Difficult
by MarilynClint
This is a really lovely solitaire game, with excellent variations. My sister and I have been playing it for years. But regardless of what the game creators say to the contrary, as you continue playing it gets increasingly difficult to play. I like scorpion, but I constantly get the message 'looking bad,' which certainly wasn't true when I first played the game. I'm only competing with myself, but still enjoy getting scores, which is now nearly impossible. This eliminates some of the fun for me. Both my sister and I have considered quitting this game because of this. I can't suggest a way to deal with this for new users: the creators are even unpleasant in response to users comments about this fact. I'd just remind people that this is far from your only solitaire option... I'd give it five stars except for this issue.
Best solitaire game available
by Keewester
I have used this program for years. I first used it some 10 years ago with my palm pilot! I had to email the company about a platform change and imagine my surprise when the developer himself emailed me back! I believe his name is Peter but it's been years so I could be wrong. I will not own another solitaire game. This has so many games to choose from and if you don't know how to play a game, the program will train you! Seriously best solitaire ever. Try it! You will not be disappointed. I play it every day and try to beat my prior scores. I wish I could show a screen shot, I have played it thousands of times. It keeps count of how many times you played particular games and win/loss percentages.
By far, best solitaire
by ProudPittieMom
I don’t play a lot of games, but I’ve enjoyed Solitaire games since I was a child, way, way, way before ‘puters or smart phones! I’ve tried many of the Solitaire apps, but this is head & shoulders above the rest.
There is an excellent variety of different games with different levels/versions in each of those games. It has an excellent training aid to help you learn games you are not familiar with and you can choose if you want SolitaireCityAdFree to keep score for you or not.
If you have grown bored with the other Solitaire games, try SolitaireCityAdFree. It will entertain you for a long time - I’m still working my way through all the versions as well as trying to improve my playing of the games I most enjoy.
12 years later, still the best solitaire app out there!
by Keiko M.
There may be more fancy or creative solitaire apps out there, but if you’re looking for a quality standard solitaire app (think back in the day when you played on your old PC before the internet came along) with pretty much ALL the variations, SolitaireCityAdFree has it all!!
I actually bought SolitaireCityAdFree 12 YEARS ago, it was the FIRST app I ever bought on my iPod Touch, and I had forgotten about it for several years after switching devices multiple times over the past decade or so... but I re-downloaded it after buying it for my mom’s iPad, and it’s still just as enjoyable now, still a solid investment that I’d recommend to any solitaire fan! ☺️👍
Great game.
by Twsimfan
4. Apparently version 7.10 wrecked it yesterday and over night 7.11 repaired the damage. Thank you. Please don't break it again. The game is once again perfect and you may have your five stars back.
3. Now I have to shut off scoring each game and more than half the time the game will crash when I do so. So far today we've gone from 1 star to 5 stars and now back to 1. I hope you can get your act together so I don't have to delete this game after all.
2. Not sure what happened there but an update apparently turned on scoring and for a time I was unable to turn it off. Fixed now so consider the following paragraph to be old and outdated news.
1. I'm coming up on 3 years with this iPadAir2 next month and this has been one of my most played games. That includes over an hour last night. Now you change it forcing me to have a timer & score on the screen. I just don't care about those things. If you don't give me an option to take them off the screen I will find a replacement that will. If you don't fix this within a few days I will be removing this game.
Great Solitaire Game
by Vince M (Frizzled Chicken)
This is my go-to solitaire game and has been for years. I LOVE IT. Almost infinite variety of games and levels to pick from to play, and permits a variety of ways to get satisfaction from playing. For example, I happen to be hooked on Spiderette (especially two-suit). Although I can't begin to achieve the speed levels of some of the better players on the leader boards, and hence rarely score that highly, it is very satisfying to me to attempt to maximize my percentage of games won by not worrying about the time taken, but by trying different strategies in the same game (by backspacing as necessary) in order to see if that particular game is solvable (at least for me). The variety of card faces to choose from is excellent, and the developers have done an admirable job over the years of updating and improving it.
My ministry-played game
by 20bunnies
This is one of my absolute favorite games. I’ve had it for years, and I’ve played an embarrassingly high number of games. The reason is this: it’s fun. I’ve always loved solitaire, since I was a kid. I like SolitaireCityAdFree because there are so many versions of the game, and variations of most of those. The choices are great. Most don’t take too long to play, so this is the game I play when I’m waiting for anything. I’m fidgety. This is perfect for that. I need to be doing something, perfect for that, too. I enjoy improving my win percentage. And I just like it! Thank you for making it a nearly perfect game. I really do appreciate it and I highly recommend it.
Best Solitaire Game EVER
by ElvisNeedsBoats
This was the first app I downloaded when I got my first iPhone in 2008 and I have played it almost every day since. The setup is clean and easy to use but the games are still challenging. There are no ads or interruptions- you just get to play cards. SolitaireCityAdFree also ALWAYS works, regardless of Wi-Fi strength or cell service. When almost nothing on my phone is accessible, I can still play Solitaire.
I’d like to thank the developers of SolitaireCityAdFree for creating such a solid and fun and reliable game. I’d also like to thank them for continuing to update and maintain SolitaireCityAdFree . Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I've been playing this game for several years and am not tired of it. The collection of games included covers a wide range of types but the most distinctive thing about the Solitaire City is that there are multiple variations of each game included. Generally these give you a choice varying from easy to hard. The score history is quite complete and handles each variation separately. The choices of card faces and backs are excellent and the user interface is good too. Improvements continue to be released as well. Overall, this is one of my very favorite apps, both for iPhone and iPad.
Love it, but minor issue latest update
by Lawbuggirl
I have loved this suite for over a decade! It’s the first app I download on each new phone, and is by far my most used app. I play it more than I care to admit. There are a lot of different games, with various levels of difficulty, and a lot of options for backgrounds and deck design. And the left-handed play option is a great but often overlooked feature.
My first ever complaint is about the latest update (May 2021). The in-play menu layout has been slightly changed, and now I keep hitting the “Show” button or the “Settings” button instead of the “Undo” button. “Undo” is surely far more often used, and should be returned to its previous position over the card stack, so the player doesn’t have to reposition their hand to hit it.
As complaints go, it’s pretty minor, but it does throw me off a bit.
I absolutely recommend SolitaireCityAdFree to anyone who wants to spend an unholy amount of time playing solitaire.
Still My Favorite Solitaire App
by KrisT117
In the years I've had an iPhone, I've tried at least a dozen Solitaire apps, but always came back to this one as a favorite. Because of that, when I got an iPad a few years back, SolitaireCityAdFree was the only Solitaire app I bothered to install.
There are others out there with more games, but this one has all that I need. I play Alternations with the most generous rules when I need to relax and not think too hard, Free Cell when I want a challenge, and the others when I want some variety.
A special thank you to the developer for an update earlier this year that added a larger typeface to the card options. My Dad's eyesight is deteriorating because of macular degeneration, and the increased size made it possible for him to keep playing. Much appreciated!
Addictive!
by Giedre11
I feel this is the best solitaire game! It's not so simple that you lose interest. There have been a few games that I have played over half an hour trying to solve {free cell}. My only complaint is that the game will suddenly end itself, usually when I'm winning! Thought at first I was accidentally pressing the "end" button, but then it happenned when I wasn't touching the screen at all. This has been frustrating because I'm aiming at 100% of winning on free cell and when it crashes, it counts against me! Otherwise it's much better than some of the other solitaire games. Am really enjoying it.
Klondike
by Jackharpertech49
I got SolitaireCityAdFree only for the fact I wanted a card app that I could play that did not have ads. This was the least expensive of the ones I looked at on SolitaireCityAdFree Store. I only use it to play Klondike solitaire and I don’t care about score or playing against others. I play 10 to 20 games a day. It’s my way to relax. That makes SolitaireCityAdFree the one I use most out of all apps I have. I never close it out. It’s always running in the background. The only features I use on it are to change the look of card decks now and then although if I used SolitaireCityAdFree to the fullest I would be very pleased with it. I love the iPad version as well. I really don’t think my review and how I use it will be off much interest to anyone except this card app for the money is as good as any other out there. Well worth it...
I played with the free version so much that when the price lowered on the deluxe I decided it would likely be worth it.. I was right! I have played with with app more than any other app. Everyday I play at least a handful of games. Any bugs I have seen have been fixed within a very reasonable amount of time with an update. They recently added a new solitaire game and I love it! I like being able to change the background images to something from my phone pictures. I would like to maybe see an update in the future with more options on the look of the cards as well. I recommend SolitaireCityAdFree to anyone that likes solitaire games!
The only game I don't like to play on here is the version of pyramid solitaire. I have never before played the version that is on here and the only way to win is remove every single card.
