Subscriptions!? Seriously!?

Can somebody please explain to me why a metronome app has a monthly cost? I really don’t understand it. It’s a very simple tool and I really can’t think of a reason other than “more profits.” Are the developement costs really that high?? Why on earth should I pay hundreds of dollars for a good app to use for a few years?
Weird Default Tone

App is well designed & easy to use, but the default tone is very low and bassy — impossible to hear over your instrument. If you want to change the tone, you have to pay. I would definitely pay a one-time fee to upgrade but I’m not paying a subscription for a “metronome as a service” lol
Update: Thx to the dev for the reply. Downloaded the app again & going to give it another try.
