As the title says, messed up a whole recording because it defaulted to my iPhone microphone instead of the AirPods I was already wearing. Very irritating

So far as the core functionality is concerned, I agree with everyone else : this is the best app out there. It's simple, works great, and provides fills a critical gap. Unfortunately, the UI was created with ONLY the iPhone in mind, which means that it will fill the screen and cut off all buttons if you A) try and use half-screen or slide-over mode on the iPad or B) try and resize the window on MacOS. This seems like a small thing, but 90% of the time I am trying to dictate about *other material on my screen*, which makes it a critical flaw.

It works solidly for normal case.
But there are some issues when it is interrupted by alarm.
It gets harder to manage when there are many recordings, for example, to exam content, delete, etc.

You can select which Whisper model and pick the right balance between speed and accuracy. You can get away with using superfast Tiny model for professionally recorded audio. If give it 5 stars if I could import a URL for a file or a podcast feed for manual transcription. Right now you have to import a file to transcribe it.

I have liked WhisperBoard so far. The only issue I have found is that it can transcribe long form audio. It keeps crashing. I would actually pay to have a working version for long form audio.

Works great! Offers you the ability to customize which model it uses and how much space it takes on your phone. Simple and well thought out!

Best free voice-to-text app on iOS… it’s wild that this hasn’t moved to a subscription-based payment model.

Lots of uses. Not all of them apparent in the beginning.

The best model has no paywall, the best features have no paywall. I haven’t seen a single app. All is done locally, and is very privacy focused. Absolutely Outstanding! This is peak app development.

Voice transcription on the iPad. It appears to be local. I can use it with Wi-Fi off. It seems accurate. And so far, there's no cost. I wrote this short review with it.

I use this application to dictate police reports and it does a phenomenal job, identifying names and spelling them correctly. Historically this has been a significant problem for Siri. In addition, the application allows you to pause and resume the audio dictation recording, which is great for maintaining a running dictation of what is happening. I have only used the tiny data set and can’t believe the accuracy. I can’t wait to see what the large or medium data set improves.

This is what all the other apps should be. I more often use it to transcribe audio that I’ve recorded elsewhere (voice memos) so it would be great for this to have Siri shortcut support to create automations for it to transcribe in the background.

I would definitely donate to the creator of WhisperBoard because it does just what you need for on-device AI transcription: provide a wrapper for downloading and running the models and saving output to the device or cloud. Nothing fancy because it doesn’t have to be. No need to pay for these other transcription services - just put the transcription into chatgpt and get whatever summaries you need for free from there.

I got WhisperBoard to show my wife she could use it for summarizing and helping with her treatment notes, but now I use it all the time. I wish it had a keyboard, so I could use it for typing over the Apple voice to text

Easy, local, and quick. It lets me quickly dictate something to my phone, convert it to text more accurately than the build in functions and quickly get it sent off in a text or email. Thank you!

It didn’t seem to mention it in the description, but includes features for getting the exact whisper model you want, and using your GPU on at least some devices. Seems like the best iOS app for local audio file transcription.

I had about 11 files in queue for transcription. The entire queue was transcribed swiftly and accurately, then as I scrolled back to my older recordings to continue transcribing, my app crashed. Now, I am unable to reopen this app at all without it crashing.

I’m on an iPhone 14 Pro.

I’ve been looking for a decent voice transcriber and no luck without paying for a ridiculous subscription for a simple voice dictation app. Otter will have you paying $130 a year for theirs, just ridiculous. Thank you for creating WhisperBoard for us that don’t use such tech enough to justify a crazy high priced subscription.

Best app ever! Completely off-line for privacy. No apparent limit on the length of the recording to be transcribed. The abilities are select the level of transcription you want for the accuracy that you need. Amazingly accurate. One suggestion: when exporting the audio file, name it the same as the exported text file based off the date and time, not a GUID.

Hands down this is the absolute best offline audio to text iOS app on the Apple Store to date. This defines and sets the standard which all "paid" apps have to meet just at a baseline level. Kudos and good vibes to the developer.
