(Updated for clarity). Although it is not quite winter holiday season yet, I thought I would download and get familiar with this advent calendar in a preliminary way. I find it enjoyable to leave it open, watch the snow fall and hear the church bells chime the hours as people of the village walk by. Interestingly, doing so has led me to an odd discovery. As with the J.L. advent calendars of the past two years, expanding the calendar reveals another level to the scene. There you see an ample landscape with charming cottages, villagers strolling along country lanes and some animals as well. There is also a charming footbridge which villagers cross over, but for some reason, on iPad, they only come to cross it very early on - as in shortly after JacquieLawsonAdventSussex is first launched. A minute or two after launching the calendar and expanding it, you generally get to see two sets of people (and sometimes a dog or two) cross the footbridge, going in either or both directions. This makes the scene more interesting and lively but for some reason, on iPad, this is a one off, because after that no more pedestrians come along and cross the bridge no matter how long you keep JacquieLawsonAdventSussex open (I experimented by keeping it open for several hours). None come and walk on any of the pathways in the foreground either. The only people you do get to see walking around after that point are on that road off in the background. This makes the scene feel more static and less interesting, which is a bit disappointing. This must be a glitch because on the computer app, the people do walk back and forth across the bridge and along the paths in the foreground on a regular, ongoing basis. So it would be nice to see this corrected for iPad (here’s hoping…). PS: This issue also occurs when running JacquieLawsonAdventSussex on iPhone but manifests a little differently. You get to see a few more people walk the bridge and foreground before they stop appearing altogether.
