Duolingo Math: Learn, Practice Reviews

My daughter just turned 6 and DuolingoMath is frustrating to use. From the wording of what math problem needs to be solved to the writing numbers. Not everyone writes a number in one stroke ex. 4 some kids & adult write that number with two stroke. So when writing a number DuolingoMath will auto assume a 1 before you finish making a 4. The counting of blocks, 11 block on an iPad screen was so close together even I was second guess my count. I got frustrated to stop using DuolingoMath and apologized to her for suggesting DuolingoMath for a summer activity.

I’m a Software and App engineer and saw so many issues with DuolingoMath. Sorry but when designing an app for all ages you really have to think like a kid and test all writing habits, wording, and visuals. If I could give DuolingoMath a 0 I would.

It’s ok, I am in 7th grade so I am in middle school and I said I was 12, it gave me 7-12 math and said it was elementary school, 1: that is not elementary school and 2: 7 year old math is waaaaaaayyyyyy different than middle school math, so either it had to give 7 year olds hard math, or 12 year olds super easy math, I got very easy math. I am need doing negative numbers, ratios and other stuff and this is giving me: 4+4+4. Like what? How is that 7th grade level? That isn’t even 7 year old level that is kindergarten. So PLEASE give anything 11 and over middle school math because 12 year olds and 7 year olds are on COMPLETELY different math levels, there is litterly no comparison. So please stop making middle school math seem like something a 5 year olds could do. It is REALLY REALLY annoying

When TYPING numbers, one should not need to draw a number to render an answer, but rather than simply inputting a number for an answer the user needs to draw the number and then DuolingoMath is required to interpret said drawing from the user to determine what value they entered. This makes the entering an answer more troublesome than it’s worth other than to strengthen one’s mathematical skills, and until it becomes an option to just type the number in to the field this feature will be inaccessible for me and I’m sure many others. But I think allowing this to happen would make a world of difference, until then I won’t be inclined to use it outside of pen and paper. But DuolingoMath is still useful and VERY helpful save this feature.

DuolingoMath, in its current state, is not worth it so long as there is no placement test. I understand that a solid foundation is fundamental to mathematical success, however there should be a way to assess if someone has those fundamentals rather than forcing them to go through all of them again to get to the topics they need help with. In its current state, I absolutely cannot recommend DuolingoMath to anyone who has the basics down. There are many other recourses that will not waste your time, chose them over this.

This is a good app if you struggle with number logic. It’s good for that, one lesson a day on how numbers work together can go a long way in understanding the world better with math. The lessons are all really clean and efficient in getting the user to grok how the numbers go together. However, I’m currently studying aerospace engineering, and my number logic is pretty good. A major difference between duolingo language and duolingo math is pretty obviously the skill ceiling. If you max out a duolingo language course to perfect proficiency, you could probably communicate somewhat with speakers of that language and accomplish goals in that way. However, solving more complex problems with math requires many more skills than what is offered over these 20 units. Geometry’s a start, but there’s definitely room for algebra beyond the extremely early operation inversion problems that I did in the few lessons I covered. If you’re going to give someone an extracurricular tool to practice math, why not give them more rewarding and challenging problems? In short, DuolingoMath ’s not bad, but if you “like math” it’s probably not for you.

I love the original duolingo I love how you can take a quick test to see where your at I love that stuff but with DuolingoMath you just put in your age and it gives you your lessons and that makes me quite a bit angry because not all children or adults for that matter are on the same level of learning. for example I put in my age and I started with simple multiplication. I know simple multiplication and that felt very repetitive to me. I specifically downloaded DuolingoMath so I could learn math in an fun way, having to repeat something you already know just to get were you don’t know isn’t very fun. So basically what I’m saying is can you have a placement quiz thing so you get more challenging work. Thank you for reading my rant/review/whatever you want to call it.

I have enjoyed Duolingo for learning and practicing languages so I thought it would be nice to keep up my math skills. So far I have really liked Duolingo Math, but with the most recent update with added content, my progress was bumped way back. The same thing happened with both my languages when they updated the language app a d changed the progess tracking. Instead of more review of concepts I have been reviewing now for a month and a half, why don't you add an advanced setting that includes alegbra, trigonometry, and maybe even pre-calculus and calculus? I personally don't believe everyone one needs to learn advanced maths, but for those of us who enjoyed it (I know, I'm a wierdo) it would be nice to have a comprehensive review of algebra and other concepts, if only to help me keep up with what my kids are learning in school.

Okay, I’m 9 years old, almost 10, and I know I’m “too young to write a review on an app” but it’s way too easy! I’m in 4th grade and I don’t do math with my homeroom. The teacher is kind and sweet but of course, it’s 4th grade and it’s gonna be a bit hard sometimes. So the reason I downloaded Duolingo Math because my friends say I’m Duolingo obsessed which i kind of am… I am subscribed to Duolingo on YT, I have a whole pinterest board dedicated to him👹👹👹👹, and I have a 11 day streak on Duolingo (I know, not that much). So when I saw that Duolingo Math was a thing, I instantly downloaded it. Then since I’m 9 soon to be 10, I put 10. It was way too easy! Like, I learned all that stuff in 1st grade! Sorry Duolingo, but too easy please upgrade to harder math🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

DuolingoMath is garbage. Doesn’t actually teach you anything. You just have to keep clicking the right answer and you’re done. It’s basically memorizing stuff because it doesn’t teach the concepts in the challenges at all. I’ve completed 10 units until I realized this is targeted for ages 8 and under. If you’re a grown adult that wants to learn math, start with pre-algebra and move all the way up to calculus on Khan Academy. DuolingoMath is a huge waste of time and mind-numbingly boring.

The only good thing about it is that it helps you remember bits and pieces of the multiplication/division table through repetition. Still a waste of time compared to using an actual multiplication/division chart.

DuolingoMath is very good I enjoy it it’s fun and everything but it’s too easy. I watched my daughter do the math but it looked to easy she is young still didn’t make it too middle school yet next year but it’s a little to easy make it more Advanced I mean I understand the first few lesson have to be easy but after that it has to get harder that’s just what I think

I am 25 and thought I could use this to brush up on some of the things I learned in high school so I could help my little sister with math. It’s pretty much just for elementary math and many of the screens just simply don’t give enough information to solve.

One time it gave me an unlabeled square with no grid lines or anything and asked what the area was. They also like to give you a 3 in ruler and ask you to make a 4 inch line which is kind of annoying, especially since you can’t make any marks like you would in real life.

Fine app for an elementary to middle schooler but a little buggy. No good for high school or above.

The concept is excellent, and the execution is fantastic, I feel. I’d like to see more advanced concepts explored here, specifically for adults who’d like to revisit or learn things like Calculus, Trigonometry, or advanced Geometry. One of my few issues with DuolingoMath is that so many of the exercises feel very repetitive.

That said, I think all of the Duolingo apps’ approaches to learning hold so much potential for education. I think this method should be explored in a variety of topics, such as geography, history, and science. I’d be interested, at least. I really have so many good things to say about DuolingoMath and its sister apps. I look forward to Duolingo’s future.

I am currently taking Geometry class in school, and I downloaded DuolingoMath expecting there to be an option from the beginning to learn Geometry stuff. There were only two options, however: elementary math and something higher (I don't remember what it was called). I picked the higher option of course, and was taken straight to easy multiplication. I was upset at first until I found myself memorizing equations which nobody seems to remember, like 8x7 and whatnot. Honestly, it's a really fun and easy way to expand your knowledge, so look past the easy beginnings. I still do wish there was a high school math option from the beginning, but I'll take this.

DuolingoMath is very similar to duolingo, but only for math. My only concern is that there is no “pre test” letting you know where you fall in DuolingoMath , having you do things that you already know.

this is day 1 and i’m currently in 7th grade and there should be a test in the beginning to test how good your math skills are. The question are rather repeated over and over, like i got the same question 3 times in a row. The little shaped characters are super cute- but you should add them into the question or something. But overall it’s a good app it has flaws.

TLDR: If math was not fun for you in school, download DuolingoMath. If you want to be able to do math in your head, download DuolingoMath.

DuolingoMath must have flown under the radar - I’m expecting it to blow up, though. Technology enables us to automate computations of various levels in the pursuit of convenience. For many, me included, this resulted in a noticeable decrease in the ability to perform basic arithmetic. If you want to reclaim the ability to do basic math in your head and get general estimates with your finances, measurement estimates in that DIY project you’re working on, or make math fun again, DuolingoMath is for you. The UI is very similar to Duolingo, but much simpler.

Im a elementary student who downloaded Duolingo to do in the meantime during winter break since im not traveling anywhere, I love how DuolingoMath doesn’t pressure you at all which makes me feel relieved when im not doing math at school. You can practice math anytime and anywhere for free which is definitely one of the reasons I downloaded Duolingo Math, unlike Duolingo language. You don’t do a quiz to check ur math intelligence when you start DuolingoMath which probably means that you can refresh your memory on basic intelligence. I don't have a problem with that by the way, if you’re thinking to download Duolingo Math. Definitely worth downloading!

At a family gathering this holiday season, one of the adults mentioned DuolingoMath. Multiple old people downloaded it out of curiosity largely based in the known reputation of DuoLingo. It paid off!

Not only we’re the adults in the room hooked, but the young children in the room soon caught in and begged to play “Math.” As we handed her the phone, we asked 6 year old Emily,
“do you even know how to multiply?”
“No. I’m only in 1st grade, and they don’t teach that until 2nd or 3rd grade…” she responded.

She then studied the screen for a few seconds before turning the phone around.
“Is this the right answer?”
“Yes!”
She completed the entire lesson on multiplication and kept going because she liked it.

Her siblings and the other younglings at the family gathering all wanted to play more “Math,” and I felt good supporting a “game” and teaches them foundational skills in life.

The design and graphics of DuolingoMath are amazing, and I would recommend! Even as a college student, I appreciate the brain training and sharpening my rounding/dividing skills.

If you enjoy numerical and mathematical dancing, ‘nuff said. Just do it.

If you read this in a state of feeing that there is no joy to be had in even a bit of exploration of numbers and the operational symbols between them, give it a go anyway and let Duo draw you in through steady, small, incremental steps. I all but guarantee that you will derive some form of glow from the experience if you give it more than a couple of days. Stick with it. You may just come to love it.

Duo has put just enough sugar and salt in the snack to make it addictive, except without the penalties we pay for indulging in actual sugary and salty snacks,l. In other words, it’s truly actually all good… and good for you.

DuolingoMath is very good at what its doing, it doesn’t give you pressure for getting the correct answers and the level of difficulty is perfect. But for what I feel, DuolingoMath is more of a review for things, it doesn’t actually tell you how to do the problems or at least how you can decipher it for your own. And for the menu it feels kind of empty, it just tells you how many stars you have and your streak, and there are only 7 units, so I think a good way to start is adding more units.
But I still recommend DuolingoMath if you want to refresh your algebra since it gives you very good problems.

I’m a high schooler who’s had a great education so this is really easy for me most of the time, but it’s still so entertaining. I recently picked up Duolingo for Spanish and Japanese over winter break and got two of my friends to start it up again with me. I was perusing DuolingoMath Store for something school oriented to take up my time once I go back to school when DuolingoMath Store recommended Duolingo Math. I’ve had a blast with it so far!!

The only improvement I could think of it to update DuolingoMath with more levels. I was speeding through levels until I saw there wasn’t a next level to go to after finishing the Review Unit. Since then I’ve done enough to keep up my daily streak. But in less than two months,I’ll run out levels! Hope they can update soon!

I wrote a 5 star review because I really love duolingo in general and when I found out they had an app for math I thought it would be nice to practice my math. The only thing is, it just recaps multiplication, division, area etc. but it doesn’t really go over what i’m learning in class as a 6th grader. which is completely fine because DuolingoMath helps me get better with multiplication etc. so overall you should definitely DOWNLOAD DuolingoMath. I don’t know who wouldn’t think this is awesome!

I have used Duolingo for learning math, Spanish and reviving my French. Now I am using it to learn mathematics, since in m youth, girls learned cooking, sewing, typing and shorthand. Boys learned vehicle repairs and other things that relied on strong back, with very little for minds of either sex. Women could be nurses, teachers (not math or science), teachers in grades schools, nurses and such, but were to marry young and bear children, retiring in her 20s to raise children and look the other way when her spouse drank and partied. A girl passed from ownership by her father to ownership by her husband. All that so boys could grow up carousing and with some sort of job.

This is actually a good way to practice math but there’s a few problems. First of all there shouldn’t be intermediate and beginner there should be grade levels to choose from so it could be more helpful. Another thing is it would be great to explain what we missed so we can learn how to fix out mistakes. This last thing is that it’s not really fun, Duolingo language is really fun and there are stories, I don’t think there should be word problems because that would make it more difficult, but maybe mini games, leaderboards, and character creators.

⭐️So, right now it’s summer and as you all probably know, during summer some knowledge just disappears during your 3 month break. Well I thought about this and was worried because I'm going to be a middle schooler next year and I want to be able to do middle school math! So, when I saw DuolingoMath I downloaded it hoping it would work. And hey! I think that it’s a great app! And it feels nice to be able to know that your learning when you play this game! If your a person who has trouble with math, I saw download this! It’s super fun and it helps your mind keep all that information and knowledge flowing! ⭐️

This game is so fun and for kids of all ages. Kids will love math and will look forward to complete it. But if I made a change to the game it would be shorter lessons so the game can be more fitting for busy schedules.
Al, the characters are so colorful and will be great for kids that are younger. If you what your kids to be ahead in school or catch use with there class. This is a great ways for kids to get into math again after any long break. And if you are looking for recommendations then the duoliningo language classes is available for kids to learn a new language easily without adults help or supervision. Also the Duolingo abc is great for kids to learn how to read and write. I totally recommend the game to parents looking for a ways for there children to learn.

On the language Duolingo you have leaderboards and friends but for math Duolingo it’s quiet and that’s what I love about it. In language Duolingo it’s pleasant to have a leaderboard to reach your goals. But for math you can’t have any disturbances and just your focus. That’s what I also like about it. It’s just you, your thoughts, and Duo. I do recommend the basic for younger kids but I highly recommend the intermediate for the older ones. If your looking for harder math then do the intermediate. But if you want to take things slowly start in basic. That’s all I have to say. But that’s why I rate it 5 stars 😍

The reason why this is the best math ever is because we on the Duolingo Math part there’s a whole Nother level we’re kids. They can learn they can learn to do math. They can learn how to do fractions I can learn how to do math they can learn how to do all sorts of stuff, so that’s why this is the best nice place, like in another part do it like Duolingo is used for kids to learn. Have fun learn how to do stuff we’re not math is Duolingo is use for a lots of stuff. but Duolingo is the most they learn for having fun. You need to have fun to be able to be in Duolingo because your lingo and make you have fun.

So first of all I’d actually rate this 2 stars (I rate it 5 because it can show up) because unlike the original Duolingo there’s not fun activity’s or make your own profiles or stories you can do and if your like me who just uses DuolingoMath to get better at math then you probably feel like this is a thing you just have to do or not wanting to do it. (Which is not very good for learning process)
Can you add even more tools to each question and maybe have these mystery math journeys you can put,for more users?
But I do have to give a big thank you because DuolingoMath does not notify me every 15 minutes to do my practice on the original duo!
It’s gotten to a point we’re they used these treasure boxes so I can just tap it and then do duo and I know this is not the write app to complain about this but it is the same companies

Hi, I’m a user of Doulingo for these past great years, But when I found DuolingoMath for math I FREAKED OUT SO HARD! Because my daughter is falling her math classes in her school she’s in fourth Grade so she’s learning long division, witch gets you tided up for a wile and can’t do it right and when I saw the stuff for the age 10 I didn’t see LONG DIVISION! Witch is why I’m asking for you too update this wonderful app into having long division please😘 (i love DuolingoMath so much thank you for making it for us humans)

I have never been a “math lover”. I always did well in it, but it didn’t come super naturally and I oftentimes didn’t enjoy it. However, math is extremely necessary. I’ve noticed that I had been struggling with basic arithmetic, and I was tired of just among jokes about it. I downloaded DuolingoMath, and my experience has been great. I already use it duolingo for language learning, and the same gamified feel applies here as well. Plus, the streaks feature really helps me want to practice. And it’s all completely free! Thanks so much :)

This game is awesome. It helps me with math in it. and it also is really fun and I am nine years old is a fourth grade I really like this because I’m my teacher of the asking me like how to do this and I don’t really raise my hand because I don’t know it but this helps me a lot. I love this game everybody should try it out. I give it a five star rating and there’s nothing wrong with it. I don’t give it a four because it’s really good to use for like ages three ages six and five or like up and younger I really really love this and I only using the speaker.

It’s amazing that Duolingo released a math version!! I never paid attention in class and missed out on basic elementary math and cheated my way through HS. Of course, this has bit my behind and I’m facing the consequences. DuolingoMath is very easy to navigate, I’m enjoying the lessons and the brain training is definitely getting these rusty gears moving lol. Can’t wait for future updates!

I was just curious at first as to how Duolingo can torment me in other ways besides languages. Now you can be taunted with elementary math!

Joking aside, I love it so far, and I really will use this to brush up on my basic math skills. I'm in Calculus and this made me realize how much I still count on my fingers or use multiplication songs I learned in 1st Grade. Can't wait for more updates!

I loved the way that Duolingo taught language and was overjoyed to see them tackle mathematics. For now, DuolingoMath seems a bit bare-bones, but I really hope the team expands this to cover other more advanced topics. I’ve struggled in math at school and hope to see Duolingo courses like calculus or statistics, because I love the visual aspects of DuolingoMath.

I had to rate this a 5 so my comment would get seen. I love Duolingo (807 days) so had great hopes for DuolingoMath. I am 62 and was using it for brain training. It was extremely elementary but oh well. Then I got to the first part of Units and there are SOOO many wrong answers! Just why DUO? You are better than this!!!

DuolingoMath is amazing! You get to learn math in a fun and intractable way which helps your remember your learning. Although for a lot of middle schoolers or high schoolers the material can be a bit easy. DuolingoMath is great right now, but in the future I suggest adding some more for older students!

If you’re going to make a math app you should add higher level math for us math geeks. Calculus, linear algebra, differential equations etc. Would love to test my skills on these topics. The topics right now are very easy so its not really that much fun after a while. Amazing concept though👏🏾.

It has all the basic stuff like multiplication and division but it also has rounding, area, fractions and even time.
From what i saw there wasn’t any glitches that interrupted the learning, i recommend 👍

I must say I love DuolingoMath sense i’m not really good at math this helps me learn math facts faster instead of me thinking about it and it really gets your brain going. I would recommend it even if math isn’t your strong suit.

This application is very useful for a seven-year-old child to a seventy-year-old man. If you feel that your calculations are weak or even as a student you need to improve your math level, this application is great.😍😍😍😍😍😍

Awesome idea, but add harder math, some type of placement test like Duolingo proper has, and auto advance after completing a problem so one doesn’t have to tap continue

This stuff is amazing! I am just so sad that there is only eight units! I love this learning app, and even though it starts off with some really easy stuff, it is a good refresher! I really like this! My only complaint is that there isn’t enough units. Only 8?!?!?!?! It is too good for there to only be eight units. I got the game today, and I have already completed six lessons. I just don’t want to run out of fun! Now, of course there is the other mode. I haven’t tried the other mode yet, but I am sure it is just as good as the first mode.

I am a college student currently working with higher-level multivariate statistics nearly every day and I have absolutely no arithmetic skills.

DuolingoMath has definitely help to understand arithmetic differently from how it is taught in schools. The practices are low stakes so you are encouraged to work through problems at your own pace, instead of in elementary school where the priority was to have the answer as fast as possible. I feel more confident in doing more simple mathematics and not relying on my calculator as much.

I have always loved Duolingo and how it teaches languages in a fun way, and i think that taking on math in the duolingo way is a great idea! Of course it is a bit dull as it has just been released, but i can see great potential, as well as elementary school teachers using this as a learning tool. I’m excited for possible online events, leaderboards, and hopefully more higher education level math for middle or high school students!

I really love the because if you go on vacation you can review it and because there are two levels intermediate and beginner👍. Though there are a little bit of errors like the accounts don’t always score correctly and there are only two levels🙄 but other than that I really recommend it. There are a lot of things you can do👌.
