As of October 4th Yattee cannot play YouTube videos and has zero YouTube functionality. Find something else.

How come this broken pile of trash be allowed on appstore?

The documentation doesn’t explain how to actually use Yattee . Says you can sign in with Piped account but how?!?! Settings show a wa to open a location but can’t access any local file that’s not in Recents. Can’t access the default Piped URL. does Yattee actually do … anything???

Yattee, in its current state, is just straight bad. At least two of the three issues I’m having have been reported, months ago, with absolutely no response from devs.

1 - Seek feature completely broken until video has sufficient buffer.
2 - Audio at the end of some videos gets completely cut out.
3- App crashes when playing videos in the background with the lock screen on.

Until these issues are addressed, Yattee is absolutely unusable. Recommendation is to avoid until devs actually give a care about fixing bugs reported months prior.

Doesn’t do what it says it does. Paste in a yt link and nothing loads when I click open.

documentation is severely lacking in the how to use department. it has quite a bit of docs on how to fix problems though, but thats just for folks who already know how to use it

You do not have permission to load error occurs on every video.

When it works, it works great. Yeah, it could be easier to set up, but once you get the hang of it, it’s fine. The real problem is that I cannot get videos to play reliably. I have Invidious and Piped accounts set up, but much of the time the best I can get is for the description and comments to load but the video just spins away at 0% forever. The only way I can seem to make it work is to use AV Player mode with HLS. Nothing else will actually play.

Says resource unavailable for any videos. Super messy UI. I give up on this as the dev seems to also.

Yattee is alright I guess, the best way to know how to use Yattee would be joining this app’s Discord server which for some could be an ideal breaker, overall it is just a privacy focused YouTube app with buggy functionality and less appealing interface compre to YouTube. Although I do say even though Yattee may not be pleasing, but at least you don’t have to watch Ads without premium or sponsors (some videos).

Really good concept, but lags a lot and freezes for all instances on iPhone 14. 30 seconds or more maybe 1 minute where app is frozen until pages or video load.

Yattee is definitely the best IOS Youtube alternative… since it’s the only one Apple has let into their app store, lol.

Anyway, Yattee works very well and is relatively smooth watching most videos but I have encountered one problem that reduces my overall rating from 5 to 4 stars: Age-restricted videos don’t work.

Well, to be clear, they technically work, but they end up buffering every few seconds unless you turn on the “mp3 only” mode. This makes age-restricted videos practically unwatchable for me, so it’s difficult to watch some of the creators I love.

Overall, though, this is a very nice app with great features. And while it isn’t as good as NewPipe in my opinion, it has been under stable development by a cool developer and is constantly getting better. I just hope this age-restriction issue can get solved if possible as that would truly make this a 5-star app.

Just have to look around for a little documentation. Would be nice to have a little more on github

The UI looks slick, as if Apple designed the iOS 5 YouTube app in 2022, Yattee is pretty fast over a 100 mbps when connected to a custom instance, its performance gets better each update, and it’s FOSS, as a cherry on top.

Perfect frontend for Piped. I’ve been waiting for one on iOS. Thank you devs

Very easy to set up, is great for driving around and playing videos in the background.

It works well if you know how to use it. The only issues I have are with the invidious instances themselves and that’s not Yattee ’s fault.

Great privacy friendly app to use Invidious and Piped. Takes a bit of setup but otherwise it’s great. Have been watching this project for a long time and hyped it’s finally available to download from Yattee Store. Congrats!

Over time, the user interface has been improved and options for multiple instances, playing and logging in through separate instances, and the queueing is great.

One thing, since late iOS 16 has changed. Only occasionally, now, play controls show up in the Lock Screen, otherwise it’s just blank, with no option to seek, play or pause without having to go into Yattee . Resolving this would be great.

All in all though, thank you so much for Yattee!

Unlike Piped, this app doesn't work OOTB and requires some configuration. However, the configuration is simple and quick; I got this app up and running in less than 5 minutes. Love the UI and all the ways it can be tweaked in the settings. Videos are playing with minimal buffering at 720p but might have more with 1080p. I'm not picky; I just want to watch videos in peace.

You will have to learn to set it up, but it will be worth it. I don’t even have the YouTube native app anymore I just use this. Basically all the premium features for free! If they add support to download for offline viewing then it would be perfect but for how good it already is, I can’t take away any stars.

Is downloading videos local for offline playback (eg to the downloads folder) on the docket? That'd make it feature-paired with my web browser.

As soon as getting my iPad I wanted a Newpipe type app for YouTube but with how the AppStore is operated I thought it was unlikely and I was pleasantly surprised to see Yattee that replicates the features perfectly and adds a couple others. Highly recommended
