The harvesting of data from my usage of the *very expensive* refrigerator I bought is of far more value to GE/Haier than whatever small features WiFi might unlock for me.
But the app makes it impossible to create a profile in order to link the refrigerator. Therefore, GE/Haier is shooting itself in the foot.
If I take the windows of the app at face value, the password needs to be *exactly* 8 characters. This is miles away from best security practices. I spent several minutes using a password generator to create something long and unique before I realized the 8-character limit warning was displayed. No company limits passwords to 8 characters in 2024–except GE/Haier.
I’m not going to waste any more time on this since I can’t imagine there is substantial benefit to the appliance owner in using the app. But it gives me some dread about this purchase if this is representative of GE/Haier’s attention to detail.

Can’t even create an account. I’ve tried about 8–10 times now and it just says “forbidden”, with no other explanation. It looks like nearly everyone reviewing the app so far has had the exact same experience. Either fix the app or just get rid of it. It obviously doesn’t work at all, for anyone.
I guess I won’t be able to use the WiFi features of my appliance. 🙄

The touchscreen on my new GE appliance literally told me to download this app by name. But as other reviewers have noted it doesn’t work. Thankfully another review pointed me to the SmartHQ app which does indeed work and connected to my new appliances successfully.
Come on GE you can do better. Just replace this app with something that displays “Obsolete app. Use SmartHQ instead.” Would save a lot of time and frustration.
