Ads Galore

The gameplay is smooth, the graphics are nice, the way you obtain currency and upgrade your ship is very straight forward. You can dodge cannonballs in this game by outmaneuvering the enemy or being faster, but not really sure if you can make your ship miss a shot so that’s kind of lopsided.

Anyways, everything you do there’s an ad to double it, or an ad to make your choice better. So if you choose the “free way” this game is fun, but a total grind and your not proceeding fast and may lose track of what the game is about. If you have a plethora of free time and wish to watch ads all day then this game might be for you, as this is “ad to play” kind of style. Nothing is forced on you, but you’d be dumb not to watch the ads for the rewards it reaps.

All in all, you may watch more ads than play the game, or you may grind the areas for loot more than find fun in playing the game. The devs made a great game but ruined it with greed.

Disappointed

I understand that apps need to use ads for revenue, I really do. You make an app to provide a good or service or entertainment in exchange for a profit. But apps are starting to offer these “ad free” packages and trying to annoy you into buying them by riddling their games with ads and this one is no exception. Such a shame cuz it’s actually a great game but if I can’t even get 5 minutes of playtime without an ad just sell the game outright because this is absolutely ridiculous. Pick up a chest, advertisement. Upgrade your ship, advertisement. Sail for 3 seconds, advertisement. JUST EXITING THE MENU, advertisement. It’s so bad that it’s causing my game to freeze because the ads just keep coming in random moments. If you’re looking for a free game this is NOT the one. If you got 7 or 8 bucks to throw at an app game then definitely give it a try because the mechanics are enjoyable. Just giving it 1 star because even though it’s listed as a free game, I’m not allowed to enjoy it without paying apparently.

Ads… ads… wait 5 seconds… another ad

The only reason this game gets one star is due to the little enjoyment In between ads. This game is riddled with ads in every corner, every upgrade, every time you start to enjoy the game, here comes an ad. Not just any ad though, first you wait 30 seconds on a worthless ad, then you try to close the ad, only to have it direct you to PirateRaid Store about 3 more times. Once PirateRaid Store is finally closed, then it takes you to a splash screen ad where it counts down another five seconds. These ads waste so much time and feel like scams. How many fake bingo ads claiming to give you loads of cash for playing? How many ads about a completely different game pops up asking you to ditch your current game.

I’m not against ads but when you have so many and so many being deceiving, it really robs you of enjoyment for this game. Not to mention the steep price of ad removal being over $5. These micro transactions are getting ridiculous. I’ll be adding this game developer to my list of games to avoid. No enjoyment from repeating the same level with a different land and needing to watch over 100 ads.

Don’t waste your time on a game like this. As for the high reviews, they seem bought.

Too Many Ads… And Now Game Killing Bugs…

I want to like this game. I really do. The game play itself is very interesting and fun. Unfortunately the game is overloaded with ads. I don’t just mean the ones you have to watch to get bonuses (extra gold and so forth, which I’m more or less fine with although I’ve never really stuck with any game that requires it to this level), but just random ads will suddenly pop-up in the middle of play… and these ads can and will get your ship destroyed. Totally unacceptable for a game of this type. There’s no pay option to get rid of the ads either, so you’re permanently stuck with them.
And just today a bug cropped up that causes the Ship screen, where you set your crew, to lock making the game unplayable without closing it and restarting… and as soon as I went back to the ship screen, the game locks up again.

As it stands, I simply cannot recommend this game in its current state.

Mandatory ads ruin gameplay

This would be a fairly fun game to play, If it wasn’t for mandatory ads that interrupt gameplay. There is no benefit from The players standpoint to watch these ads. They pause the game and force you to watch a 30+ second ad. After watching this ad there is no bonus, there is no reward. You don’t get anything for watching mandatory ads.
Gameplay involves moving a ship around the map and attacking other ships and monsters in the water. You’re able to upgrade your ship, and upon successful completion of all levels you move to another island and repeat the process at a slightly higher level of difficulty. I am currently stuck at one level that costs 10k gold to complete. If I don’t watch any ads for Bonus Gold, I accumulate 5 to 700 gold every 2 to 3 minutes of gameplay. There is at least one mandatory ad during this time.
If I did not have to watch mandatory ads I would rate this game as a four or five star game.

Could’ve been good BUT

The ads pop up soooo much it literally lags the game. There’s not a whole lot to this game in the first place, but it’s a GREAT time waster but even that’s ruined by it being near unplayable unless you pay to remove forced ads. So i paid. $7.99 to remove ads. Guess what, you want gold, ads, wana rescue a sailor, ads, wana resurrect your boat after it gets destroyed from being frozen in place from the SHEER AMOUNT OF ADS…then more ads. If i pay you $7.99 for this basic of a game the least you could do is give me the choice to remove ALL THE ADS. Let me enjoy the game. Let it BE PLAYABLE. Cant even kill a kracken thats UNDER my level…due to the ads lagging my ship. There’s better, cheaper, and more realistic pirate games that are free of ads. I recommend you all play that unless they fix something.

Ps. Ignore the idiots with the 5* reviews, they were likely paid or bots or just idiots easily impressed with 30 ads a minute (not even barely exaggerating)

Too much random adds

I barely move away from the barrel market to go and upgrade my ship to find a mandatory add then I leave the ship upgrade to find another add right after getting out of that shop then I take down two ships right outside of the shops and have to deal with another add right as I’m trying to get the barrels from those ships

If you could have the adds come at a amount of time like 3 mins or something other then 15-25 seconds and or if we went to watch a add we can watch one for the resources and making it a bit more incentivized like if your a level 2 you can get like 100 coins or 10 gems or 50 barrels instead of basically demanding people to watch a add with no reward more then likely we’d actually watch something that would just let us play a game

I really do enjoy the gameplay it’s good just too many adds in such a short time that’s literally the only reason I have it a 3 star review instead of a 5 star

Holy moly Ads for days

More ads than I have ever seen in a game. I have no issues with ads to get gems, coins, speed things up, or even the occasional mandatory ad ever so often.
I downloaded, played, and deleted this game all within 10 minutes. That said, about 8 and a half minutes of that was watching ads. Three of which, I voluntarily clicked on to gain a reward. Which I would have gladly continued to do throughout my playing session to support the devs and gain a small reward in return. However, I was bombarded with mandatory ads every few seconds afterwards. Because of this I lost any and all interest and immediately deleted the game.

Devs, I understand the need for ads in game to fund and support you. But holy moly that was ridiculous. You could have and would have gained a lot more funding from me and I am sure many others if the ads were voluntary and not forced down our throats every half a second. This seemed like a interesting game from my short time playing, and it is regrettable that it was pretty much unplayable within the first few minutes.

Nauseating Amount of Advertising!

The game is fun, I actually enjoy it and would love to continue playing it, however I can not play for 1-minute straight without another 30 second + add that more times then not locks up my IPad causing me to restart PirateRaid . I understand how this works, I am a small business owner myself, but come on! I do not mind supporting apps, I am actually a fantastic client to have, however can I see if I like the game without you shoveling adds down my throat! Regardless to what I think of the game, my opinion is clouded by my annoyance of the continues advertisements, it is mind boggling that you do not see how ridiculously annoying this is. I can spend $5 to eliminate the adds, but how about letting me figure out if I like the game first! Kinda like “you need to pass the bill to see what is in it” Seriously people, you are a FOR PROFIT organization acting like politicians! Whomever is the decision maker on your end needs to step down, because you would be making a whole lot more money out of paying players like myself if this was not the case.

Ads to lag

This game could be one of the most fun easy to navigate stress relieving game out there except for two things the ads are insane, they come every few minutes or more and these ads completely disrupt game play and create major lag. Of course there is the option to get rid of ads but it is not a permanent solution like other games, oh no, you have to buy parrots and each parrot frees you from one ad. Now as I mentioned the ads are fast and furious so if you wanted to play for an hour without ads it would cost you probably around a hundred bucks or more… no longer stress relieving or fun at this point! DO NOT GET THIS GAME IT WILL JUST CAUSE YOU HEADACHES AND HEARTACHES!!!

And to the developers I understand you have to make money but this is ridiculous! You also better watch out you are obviously rigging the review data because when you break it down there are a ton more one stars than are reflected in the graph and way less five stars in general and obviously from companies hired to boost ratings… this is a deviously inaccurate review system and PirateRaid Store should investigate.

Too many issues. Fraudulent. Do not spend money

Fun enough. Drive your boat shoot bad guys. However two BIG issues. 1. There is no iPhone/ipad cross play or progression. If you play on one none of your data is carried over including purchases. 2. Purchases are not recoverable if anything happens to your iPhone or ipad, like you have reset to system defaults. I have an email from developer saying this as it happened to me and I inquired. I spent $100 for a boat and gems all lost due to a random ipad issue. It is not a Game Center signed game so it does not carry into iCloud. All your progression and purchases are gone. There should be a clear warning from the developer about this. So basically play at your own risk and hope no bugs, phone/ipad issues occur and you lose everything. Game has a fun premise, but seems like a ripoff. Too many adds for everything unless you purchase parrots, which is a lame, just charge a a flat rate for no more ads periods. The company seems to want to nickel and dime you more than they want to provide a fun, engaging game with quality customer support.

Updated 3/5- all in app purchases disappear once you close PirateRaid . Upon opening PirateRaid , all progress, purchases, ships gold and diamonds are gone. The reverts back to the beginning. I have called Apple and told of them of this issue and reported PirateRaid provider as possibly fraudulent.

Ads and more ads and even more ads

Such a cool game when it’s not Constantly getting interrupted with ads you didn’t decide to watch for the reward. You’ll be mid battle and an ad will start playing and when you come out of the ad there are even more ships that have gathered around you and then you die and they offer you to watch an ad to save the ship but you’re tired of ads so you click off to just die and respawn, but guess what, an ad plays anyway and instead of the 30 second respawn ad, it’s a 10-15 second ad that you have to click the X 3 times and have it pop up anyways. All for no reward and you’re forced to deal with it anyways. Trash game due only to the ads. I understand you can pay to get rid of the ads, and if it was a dollar or 2 I would, but 5-9 dollars and I bet I would still have to watch ads for the special rewards encounters. If the ads were limited to special rewards I would totally understand, but when it affects the normal gameplay it’s unplayable.

Ads are terrible

I like the idea of a pirate progression game. AKA start with nothing and upgrade your ship. Game is fun at the start for a couple minutes. You can just play and have zero ads.. but then you eventually get your first ad and the gameplay experience goes downhill. You can play 30 seconds of the game and get a ad.. you basically can do a mission and then you get an ad. It’s also the ads you can’t skip.. so you have to watch the 30 second ad. Then from there you get redirected to another screen where you have to wait 5 seconds to close the ad. Then try and close it and you get taken to PirateRaid Store.

Overall the game could be fun if the ads weren’t so bad.. it’s just ridiculous you can play the game at all. You can pay to remove the ads.. but instead of the standard 99¢ or the $1.99 removal of the ads they offer you a $7.99 ad removal special. After that I’m not sure what the cost is to remove ads but it will be more expensive then the $7.99

Could have been a great game

This could have been a great game, easy to pick up fun graphics pirate theme but, the ads :( they come every 30 seconds even when you are in the middle of a fight, there are so many ads you can’t really experience gameplay. You can pay just over $7 to remove ads but there are so many of them you can’t play long enough to see wether or not it’s a game worth investing in. I see other reviews saying that there is just enough ads but those are clearly by someone that works for the company. Gonna give it a day or two more if I can’t get at least a solid 5 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay definitely removing this. I can’t recommend downloading there are plenty of pirate themed games that you can enjoy without most of your time being spent watching ads. I realize you’re trying to make money but I probably would have spent money if I actually was able to play the game…
I’m just saying 🤷🏾‍♂️

Ad Interrupts Are Ridiculous

The first ten or so minutes are fun enough. Progression is fairly smooth and soft-guided; you get some prompts with rewards, but you can ignore those and just said around having your cannons go “pew pew”. Frequently enough there’ll be prompts to watch ads for more gold, the primary resource, which I took a time or two.

After those first ten minutes though, shortly after you first expand the map by upgrading the lighthouse, once. Every. Two. Minutes. *AT LEAST*. The game will stop play for a full screen ad. You’re about to sail over a chest of gold? Ad. You just pulled up to fire at another ship? Ad. You’re trying to figure out what to upgrade next? Ad. You’re in the middle of trying to kill a Kraken boss while avoiding its tentacle summons? AD.

I managed to upgrade my lighthouse one more time before I threw in the towel and uninstalled.

Fun but a serious issue

This game is very fun if a bit repetitive. But I did not find myself being upset by the repetitiveness. I found myself enjoying it thoroughly the entire time I was playing. Until I got to the level with the Godzilla monsters. They are absolutely and unequivocally way over powered. I was having so much fun with this game that I powered through the Japan level even though I had to kill 15 of things. After two more levels, they reappeared. And unfortunately, I am not going to be dealing with that again. They kill you in under three seconds even with full life cool attack three cannons and everything maxed out. Not only that but there been does not miss unless you have an insanely high evasion. If that gets changed, I will continue to play this game because I thoroughly enjoyed it. Until then, it’s not worth it at all. Without those monsters or with them being less powerful, this would be five stars. The fact that I’m still reading at three even with that incredible blender, shows the fact of how fun this game really is.

To the Developers of this game

I have been looking for a game like this for years for PirateRaid store and finally found it! When I open it and started wrecking other ships throughout that whole time to the next island I was given about 50 ads. It would be nice to pay 99¢ to disable ads like most mobile games. Or to come up with a different idea for making money other than ads. Another thing that ruined the game for me was when I reached the second island and I had already reached level 5 for my ship on the first island I was so happy cause it was bigger. Then I was extremely disappointed to notice that my ship was back at level 1 it was smaller and I lost all my gold and barrels... The only thing that I had was the level for my pirates. If this is what the game is supposed to be I am saddened to say that I will be uninstalling this unless it is changed cause I don't want to have to grind on every island to upgrade my ship to a Galleon. The game is fun when you can listen to the music and blast some ships with your (UPGRADED) Ship and not have to worry about “If I leave this Island I'm gonna lose all my progress and have to restart from square 1 again”. Anyways I hope the Developers acknowledge this and maybe even respond. Better yet I hope this Pirate Ship issue gets fixed or changed cause it's pointless to just go to another island. I have plenty of other things to talk about that can improve this game but these two are the top 2 for me. Thank you!

Devs actually care

I don’t get how some people write essays as reviews so I’m going to keep this one fairly short. I’ve played over 360 mobile games and this one nearly tops all of them. There are a lot of ads. Like a lot. However, I’m rating five stars because the devs actually update the game often. I assuming the game is newer as I’m writing this but there’s been 2 updates the past two days that add really helpful features. Out of all of the games I’ve played, I’ve never seen devs care or update their game this much. Also, the game is pretty fun for just wasting time. You bassicly just have a pirate ship and upgrade using supplies you get from sinking other ships or killing large sea creatures which helps you also complete quests to let you travel to different oceans and do the whole thing again. I would definitely recommend this game to anybody.

Wow finally!!!

Devs you hit a home run! Thank you so much for the update! You hit some major pain points and cleaned/polished the game. You have just enough ads where I don’t feel the annoyance of inundation of ads. I really don’t mind “saving” the stranded sailor. A paid ad free version would definitely be something I wouldn’t mind Paying for. It’s a well thought out game. There are a few bugs that I still notice. You fixed the ratio issue on iPhones but still see ships stuck in land objects. You’re still getting 5 stars from me! I also have a pirate symbol attached to my ship now I’m not quite sure what it’s for. I’m also able to shoot things outside my circle of influence which I think is not intended.

Updated: so it seems the “next island” button is either broken or I’ve somehow reached the last stage. It says “You’re the greatest pirate in this sea” but doesn’t prompt to progress. Looking forward to the next update.

Pirate Raid is an awesome game.

The only thing I dislike about the game, is the same complaint that I have about all of the other games, I’ve got to sit through a lot of ads, and I just wish this game were different, ahead of the pack of you will, and allow people to actually own this game outright, by paying a big fat full price, (I would shell out a hundred bucks for this right to own a copy of the game…easily,) and not have to sit through advertising after advertising, after advertising.

Otherwise, this game is a lot of fun to play. I’ve always enjoyed the concept of pirate games, whether it’s set on the high seas, or set in far reaches of outer space, pirate games are a lot of fun to play, and this game is one of the very best.

Great job, and other than not allowing people to purchase a full version of the game without having to watch ads, I give this game a solid 5 out of 5, and highly recommend it to anyone who’s likes the genre.
