This was clearly meant to be used on a laptop or some kind of computer, not iPhones. Maestro is incredibly difficult to use and does not work for touchscreen. If you’re not precise enough, you won’t get the results you want and on top of that, you have to wing it because you don’t know what you’re doing for the first few months. If you’re using a MacBook or other computer, Maestro would probably work the way it was supposed to. This needs to be removed from Maestro Store because people will get confused and waste their time.
It was a good app before it started malfunctioning and there would be ad music playing in the background when I was trying to write my music. I was forced to delete Maestro and made sure my music was saved elsewhere. I redownloaded it and logged in and everything was gone, wasn’t even saved in files of other apps. I lost everything I’ve been writing, including a 20-25 minute long symphony which has taken me over two weeks to perfect. I am very very angry and will be taking my writing elsewhere. I hope they will fix these problems!
This is a well-designed app for jotting down a melody. I think it is better suited for classical music than it is for jazz, though. During playback, for example, I could not find any way to specify swing rhythm, which is essential for many jazz pieces. It only plays straight eighth notes, which is a big shortcoming.
I downloaded Maestro a few months ago and loved it! I love composing music and Maestro is almost perfect. You can use just about any virtual instrument! I used Maestro almost every day until something weird happened.
I was adding to one of my music compositions and my iPad started playing weird music that sounded to me like either a tropical beach music, or an advertisement for a game for my iPad. I checked my iPad and I wasn’t listening to any music like that. Then I started closing my apps. And when I closed “this app,” the weird music stopped. I opened Maestro again and went back to composing. I used the “playback” option (its a really helpful feature) and in the middle of my composition, the weird music started again. I still haven’t figured out what to do.
But other than that weird glitch, Maestro is amazing! I would definitely download it!
I’ve used Maestro for a little while and I’ve noticed that the brass section is lacking compared to other sections. There are no mellophones or baritones and for the most part, the only options besides a brass section and synthetic brass are a trombone, trumpet/muted trumpet, French horn, and tuba. It’s just boring, to say the least. There are so many options for every other instrument besides brass instruments.
Even after only using Maestro for a small amount of time, there are bugs when playing back the music. I don’t know if it depends on how big of a piece you’re making, but I’ve noticed that certain lines tend to lag.
Key signatures are practically impossible to change back. Maybe that’s just my ignorance of not knowing how to use Maestro but every time I’ve attempted to change a key signature, either nothing will happen or I won’t be able to change it back.
Besides these few critiques, I do think Maestro is promising and a very helpful to-go option for musicians. I’ll be using it in the future and hope to see these issues fixed.
This is easily the best music composing app I ever had. This has all the features this needs. It’s hard to find things, but none the less it has everything it needs. The only problem is, is that I cannot save my work. When I clicked save, it only worked once. Hopefully you fix this bug, if you fix it I will start using it again. Thank you for this great app, and I hope you have a great day. Take care.
It’s a very great app and very useful for writing music, but the ‘beam note’ option isn’t working at the moment. It might be because I am on a mobile device. Otherwise, it is a great and useful app.
I love using Maestro because it makes making music so much easier but some action I cannot do such as making triplet 16th notes and if you remove a triple the whole sheet music bugs out. Overall great making music but i really need those bugs fixed so I can continue composing my piece.
Maestro is the best app to make sheet music on mobile in my opinion, but there are two things that I feel that need to be added. I think an export option for midi or MuseScore is very necessary, and along with the MuseScore feature you would need to have a left and right hand bar line so the sheet music can be imported and accurate
Maestro is very great for music composition as a whole, but I do have a complaint as to there isn’t a baritone/euphonium on here. I’ve look and there isn’t one in treble clef or bass, so that’s just a suggestion. Also, I don’t know if it’s me using Maestro wrong but crescendos and decrescendos both don’t work along with ritardandos and accelerandos. Again it could be just me but these are my only complaints so far. Keep up the good work!
I want to say it’s a very put together app, with a lot of tools to help people write accurate music theory and music scores. But one thing I’ve noticed were the constant bugs whenever I enter Maestro , wether it’s clicking on a note, or fixing a measure or note, it kicks me out of Maestro , which is kind of annoying. Please fix this! I am a juilliard student and I really want to give it an amazing review and recommend Maestro to my peers and teachers!
This is a great music composer to compose music with! I love the way it is set up and the simplicity of it all. But it’s missing a few minor things. First of all, the didgeridoo and bagpipes sound like they are vomiting their guts out when I try to use them. Second of all, we need a way to make an instrument play only the second or 3rd time of a repeat. It would make it so much easier not having to copy and paste the same passage over and over again. And their are a few missing things that would make the experience much better. First, we need more percussion, percussion like sleigh bells, flexatone , ratchet, and others. We also need more brass and woodwinds! Even just a bass clarinet and a euphonium would go a long way. But also a flugel horn and mellophone. And maybe even an alto clarinet. It would also be cool if you make each instrument notated by the key they are in (for example, trumpet would be in concert Bb and trombone in concert C) Thank you for reading!
This is a great app and it plays pretty accurately. It’s really helpful! I use it to type in my marching band music and hard band music, so I can hear it played and identify my mistakes. It takes a bit to enter all the notes in but it’s really nice once they’re in. BUT here’s what I would like added (please): -A way to add 2 articulations to one note (like staccato and accent on one note) -Marcatos -ffff (yes, fortisisisisimo) -tempo changes -key changes Thank you!
I got Maestro because it was completely free, and my expectations were surpassed by a long shot. The only thing I wish there was is a tutorial for when you first get Maestro . I spent around 2-3 minutes trying to figure out how to use Maestro . But other than that, it’s a very good app, the the best app I have used to make music. Overall, 10/10.
Overall Maestro is very good and convenient for composing. I do have one suggestion for a feature that should be added, though. I think that Maestro should include a feature that allows for the composer to add first and second endings when using a repeat sign. As far as I know, this feature is not currently in Maestro .
Update: just discovered that there is a feature allowing you to add multiple endings. Updating from 4 to 5 stars
Maestro is very great and its simplicity makes it great for beginner song writers! People say it’s not great on mobile but I really think it’s ok, it’s not that bad. There is one thing that kind of gets on my nerves however, and that is the drum roll notations, there’s only one and I feel like you should have them all in there, but overall very good app, I use it all the time, although you could add a few more muted for trumpet and maybe flutter tongue for brass and woodwind, but overall very good app.
I have never seen a free, well working music writing app like this. It is simple to use, almost completely add free, and NO subscriptions! The only ever time there is 5 second skip adds is when going into the list of songs. You don’t have to pay for basic notes, and there is so much customization! One thing I would like to say is that some functions are difficult, like right now I can’t figure out how to place another measure without adding a rest that I don’t want. But otherwise, I’d say this is the go-to app, wish I found this sooner!
This game is actually really good, I’m in my first year of band so I’m not that familiar with some of the stuff but this app makes it easy to create good music, you can do so much cool stuff, like change the tempo and adding other instruments. Some of the sounds are a little funny. The only few things that I would improve with Maestro is that they should add more percussion instruments, also sometimes when I add bar lines it wants me to add rests in places I don’t want them which is annoying. Also another thing is that sometimes when you want another instrument too play the same thing as another, it says it’s lined up but when I play the music it’s off or in a completely different place than the music says. Overall, this is a really fun and cool way to create music, it’s easy to use, although I wish it didn’t have so many ads, it is still so entertaining.
Pretty cool and useful on mobile for making music and stuff. but help needs to be more help, because when i first got it i had no idea how to use it and took a week to learn the basics, and the Key at the start should let you custom the keys by clicking on the lines or spaces
I have used it for a good bit of time now, and it’s the best one I found. I have now started to write a few pieces on it, and it definitely deserves to be one of the most well-known music-writing apps, because it certainly is one of the best. Sadly, I encountered a few problems, like when an instrument goes high, it doesn’t make room for it, it just blends it in with the line above, or how it doesn’t have an option for notation like ‘expressivo’ or other important musical notation. Also, the only grace notes I found were ones that add the note right below it, but I haven’t looked that hard, or in a while. There’s a weird glitch that makes it so I can’t have a starting dynamic and then a crescendo or decrescendo on a whole note, it always gets rid of the first one I add when I add in the second one(If I put in the dynamic, then a crescendo or decrescendo, the dynamic disappears, and when I put in a crescendo or decrescendo and then go in to put in a dynamic, the crescendo/decrescendo disappears). The dynamics don’t work in the play through, so I can’t hear the melody over the accompaniment. I also don’t have access to my password in any way, so I can’t sign in on any other devices, so I’m stuck on my phone. These may seem like a lot, but all but the last two are pretty small issues (and minor annoyances), and all are easily fixable. I definitely recommend this app, and those other apps should take some notes.
