🏷️ About:
With Nocturne by Unistellar, you can take breathtaking pictures of your nighttime adventures and show the world your nocturnal perspective - all in one app.
Using Unistellar's proprietary image processing algorithms, Nocturne brings to life your night scape photographies, allowing you to capture your scene under a showstopping starry sky, at the press of a button.
App simulates the iPad camera with smaller viewport and less controls, title at top reads Camera Configuration and nothing happens. Useless app and waste of my time.
EDIT: Received a response to my review from Devs stating Nocturne is for iPhones only (not iPads). I’m not sure whether or not Apple’s App Store allows Developers to categorize their apps as iPhone-only but if that is true then there’s no excuse. If it’s not true then fair enough.
Does not work on iPhone 15 pro max

App works on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Took awesome photos. However it does not work on my new iPhone 15 pro max. Camera makes strange sound and cuts off before picture capture complete. Overlays tun Nocturne off.
This is a shame because Nocturne is the best ever on my old phone. Please fix this problem . Thank you.
It doesn’t do anything.

I let it expose for well over 10 min. but it never stopped, never seemed to do anything. Not ready for prime time.
Must have Notifications or Can’t Isr

1 star because it forces you to have notifications on in order to use. No thanks.
Is it absolutely necessary to enable notifications to use Nocturne? Seems weird
Notifications?

Nope. I absolute do not need your app telling me about “observation activities” or anything else. Deleted.
So far it’s been glitches one after another

I downloaded it to iPhone 13 Pro max, worked for one picture. Then the picture would not leave the screen. Deleted Nocturne reinstalled. Took one picture then Nocturne would not work again it stated on the screen it was calculating time never went into photo mode deleted again.
14 Pro Max problems

App worked great on 12 Pro Max. I upgraded to 14 Pro Max and Nocturne crashes, makes odd sounds,. Please update. Nocturne was a real gem.
iOS 16 iPhone 14 Pro Max incompatibility

Please fix crashes on sliding filters and DSO adjustments and labels. World class app made a little less special :(
A few things I noticed right away. There is no provision for a remote control. That means my first tap on the screen shakes the phone while it is taking the first image. Perhaps more than just the first, depending on the stability of your tripod. In addition, with the phone tilted toward the sky, that start button is hard to get to. A time delayed start might be the answer to all of this. My bluetooth remote only works with the iPhone camera app, not with this app. In addition, I am unable to take advantage of the 0.5x and 2x zoom options the camera app on my 11 Pro allows. It would be nice to be able to change the zoom level even a limited amount. I could not scroll to the bottom of the Tip screen. I had to reduce my font size to read it, then resume my previous setting. A rookie programming mistake, thinking everyone’s screen size and font are the same as yours. They should have made it a scrolling window. Other than those little issues the this app app seems it might do what it promises, which is give you a nice starry landscape shot from a dark sky area. Unfortunately, all Nocturne did is remind me that I live under a light dome. Not their fault.
Maybe good for older iPhones?

While I am really intrigued with the overlay features, the overall results simply cannot compare with the native iPhone 12 or 13 photos taken in Night mode. In this mode, a 30 second exposure produces greater star and Milky Way definition and brightness. I wish there was a way to use the overlays with the images captured with the native iPhone Night mode.
Varied results

Just shot a number of shots in fairly dark sky’s of New Mexico. Several shots were very good, but many were poor to mediocre. The shots aimed towards some distant city lights faired better than those aimed at darker (higher) sky. iPhone 13pro was used. Milky Way shots were not good, unless the city pollution was visible at the edge of the frame. Very odd. Any suggestions? Note, I would gladly pay for this product if it was consistent.
Watermark in photo export, WHY?

I tried Nocturne and found the results worth continuing to explore. I exported the image to the Photos album and noticed the Nocturme watermark/insignia in the lower left corner of my photo. Why is it there? It ruins the photo.
Nice

Crashes in 2x. No 3x. Forgot to compare it to the iPhone camera built-in software but can’t beat the price.
Nocturne crashes on iPhone 14 when you select from any overlay. On the iPhone X, the overlay button interferences with other text. With both iPhones the sky image is saved in Photos App, but only straight line constellation outline can be made and saved in Photos App. It is unfortunate to have issues between iPhone models, because it has a lot of potential for education.
Great app but could have been better.

It’s a really great app except there’s no way to remove the this app watermark from the final photo.
Simple, needs RAW

Like the simplicity of Nocturne. Set it and forget it, (for 3 minutes). Would love to see RAW or ProRaw for this, that would make it 5 stars. Would be willing to pay to have this, lens selection, and the watermark removed. I’ll be watching. Good work team!
Great Captures but I am having an issue…

When I try to apply the overlays on my 14pro max Nocturne just quits. I did try reinstalling Nocturne but the issue remains. I’m hoping an update may fix this. I like the simple interface and the images are great.
With a few improvements it would be amazing

Love it. I live in the outskirts of a large city (Bortle 6) and have been able to capture some beautiful night sky images. A few things I wish Nocturne had: remote capture or delayed start capture so you don’t shake camera with the initial press; zoom feature; a little quicker capture with the same results- 3 minutes is just long enough that brighter stars and planets are blurry due to their movement across the sky
Great App, I used it during an outdoor concert to capture the sky and remember that day vividly. I ended up loving the results and created a great memory

Awesome app for the night sky

I was told about Nocturne from a friend that worked on the beta. After downloading the first I took a few photos of Orion and was Impressed and I only have an iPhone SE 1sts Gen. I since was able to get someone to put it on the iPhone 13 Pro and now I need to upgrade my iPhone. Nocturne is awesome!

Nocturne works great. It was able to capture things I couldn’t see with my naked eye.
The best automated astrophography app for iphones
2026-01-01
by AAA1MA
The title says it all...3 minutes of capture time. Can be handheld, i wish it had more options and raw format support but the current output is still nothing more than amazing, beyond any other astro photo app for the apple products.
I was thinking of buying the eQuinox 2 when I came upon Nocturne. Using an iPhone 8 Plus and in a brightly lite city with all night security lights from a neighbor Nocturne is able to bring out stars down to 5.4 mag and identify the constellations. Simply out of this world. It has convinced my to buy the Unistellar hardware.
Try it!

Amazing app professional results!

Dear developer I know that update Nocturne and fix bugs cost a lot but please keep Nocturne free without any internal purchases! To professional mobile photographers like me that work with the phone all the time, not only to take photos of the sky, it’s a really bad thing try to recommend apps to the other people that are beginning in this thing have to deal with purchasing things on apps like Nocturne Halide Mark II, was a amazing app but they ambitious for put a subscription made almost all the users stop using, It’s sad see beginners they have to expend money to have good results so that’s a way to ask this thing for you don’t mess with Nocturne , I would ask you if you can add the option to activate or turn off the watermark❤️, Anyway your app is insanely great keep doing this amazing job! Thank you for this incentive to mobile photographers of the night sky ❤️❤️
