About: How can computers learn to recognize birds from sounds? The BirdNET research
project uses artificial intelligence and neural networks to train computers to
identify nearly 3,000 of the most common species of North America and Europe.
You can record a file using the internal microphone of your iOS device and see
if BirdNET correctly identifies the probable bird species present in your
recording.

Not able to identify - every single time

I’m using an iPhone X and I get an error every single time that says “Sorry we were not able to confidently identify any bird species” with an option to view “wild guess.” The wild guess is always a Western Tanager. My husband has a Google Pixel and records at the same time and he receives instant results of a completely different bird, not a Western Tanager. No wild guess. What’s up with that?

Lost all Recordings. Great Otherwise

App worked amazingly for quite a while, until it didn’t. It would crash every time I tried to open my observations! No updates were available, so I thought maybe I would delete and redownload the app hoping that would help. I naively assumed all my observations would still be there. Wrong. I can surely open my observations list now but it is empty now and everything I ever recorded is gone. Wish there was a way to make an account or something. Really just a way to ensure your recordings are automatically linked to you and retrievable somehow would be nice. I had no way to even save them manually before doing it since it would crash every time! Very upsetting and frustrating :( Loved it otherwise.

Needs features

I’ve been using it for a few days and it seems to work pretty well. I only gave it three stars because it needs some features added. The most important feature would be the ability to submit feedback when it offers more than one possibility, in the likely event that we can identify the bird. The second feature would be the ability to import from our own library. I found that if you are in a remote location with spotty cell coverage the app is useless because it cannot connect to their servers. At the least we should have the option to record and select the part to be analyzed and then the ability to save it to be analyzed later.

Why should I report an Issue with BirdNET?

  1. Pulling issues faced by users like you is a good way to draw attention of BirdNET to your problem using the strength of crowds. We have over 1,000,000 users and companies will listen to us.
  2. We have developed a system that will try to get in touch with a company once an issue is reported and with lots of issues reported, companies will definitely listen.
