Developer response was that they use 50 climate (whatever that is) and it’s more accurate… yet it wasn’t at all accurate for me. Be aware and vigilant so your crops aren’t susceptible because of lack of proper information. Won’t be re-downloading FarmYourYard or recommending it to anyone. While I can’t state anything regarding actual use as I deleted this before I input anything, I can state it is likely not accurate. I notified that their system did not have appropriate growing zones, and in an email returned, I got a slightly rude response that included they do not in fact actually utilize growing zones for anything. This is a disservice to anyone trying to take growing seriously, as our zones are vitally important in determining species, varieties, and frost expectations. If you’re just doing this for fun, so be it. But FarmYourYard is not for anyone trying to truly plan. Plans involve accurate information and people can and do fail when not using accurate and thorough information. I wanted to utilize FarmYourYard before deleting but can’t bring myself to promote something whose developers refuse to use constructive criticism to improve.

The most recent update broke the app

I was really enjoying FarmYourYard . I had my 2022 garden fully planned and had just started my first round of seeds when the developers rolled out an update. With this update, they promised some really nice features but I have been unable to use them. When I open FarmYourYard , every screen is a loading screen. A circle just spins and spins and spins and I can no longer access my garden plans. I guess it’s my fault for not having them written down somewhere else as a backup, and relying too heavily on an app, but it’s totally screwed up the timing on my entire garden. I have updated my own phone, and have done every new update on FarmYourYard since they did the initial update, hoping for a bug fix, but to no avail. I have lost all of my data and the ideal dates for planting specific seeds are gone. I am devastated that I will have to start from scratch with another app, and I know for certain I am already behind on planting some of my seeds.

Love the concept but keeps crashing

I’ve used this to plan out my garden for a few years now and every year in the spring it completely wipes my garden plan clean and won’t even load the screen to allow me to plan out a new garden. Every winter it works great but whether the server gets overloaded in spring or what, it’s unusable come planting time. It will continue to send you reminders of what to plant but good luck getting it to actually load so you can view the planting calendar. Best advise is to plan your garden out in the winter using it and then make paper notes of when to plant everything so you’re not left high and dry come spring.

Shows promise

Pretty good design, love the planting times and reminder features, but with no option to search, you have to scroll thru the entire list to find plants you’re growing to add.. and if you’re growing something that’s not listed.. there’s just nothing you can do. Also, no way to add journal entries or photos of plants from what I could see, which is important to me as I’m a beginner and still learning how things grow.

Definitely could be useful, but not going to be using it until those features are added

Good Start!!

It seems like a pretty solid app.

I haven’t actively used it as far as the planting aspect so I can’t talk about that functionality, but the general design seems good.

I really like the calendar with the listing of veggies below and the months across the top. That feature will help someone like me who is very new to gardening know what items you can plant when.

I wish there was information on companion planting. I’m not going to have a ton of room for my raised beds so I honestly think that would be helpful. I like the square foot data that’s provided, so you can tell how many plants per square foot, but having that companion info available in FarmYourYard would just be that much better. You wouldn’t have to go find that data somewhere else and you could just stay in FarmYourYard .

Also looking forward to a larger plant database.

FarmYourYard has a great start, I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops. I can’t wait to get planting so I can put it to use and see it in action!!

Question on changing planting dates

Hello, app seems cool so far. I have a garden going now for several weeks almost 2 months now and I just downloaded FarmYourYard today, how do I change the planting dates of my veggies so that the tasks and harvest dates are accurate in my calendar? FarmYourYard says I planted everything today, however, everything has been in the ground for about 6 weeks and I did a second round about 1 week ago and I can’t edit the dates in which I planted.

Is this possible? Could be an easy one as I’m a new user here.

Love the concept, needs some tweaks

We’re a small space gardening family, and I love the idea of being able to track our volume of food grown in our yard. The plants were pretty easy to add and relabel to the varieties we’re growing. The calendar is unrealistic, though, and I wish I could edit it to reflect what’s actually happening. We’ve had a cold spring this year, and things are growing slowly. It’s frustrating that I’m being told to harvest things now (I’m writing this on Memorial Day) that haven’t even fruited yet, and I know we didn’t pick tomatoes and peppers for several months from this time last year. So it would be nice if I could input stuff like when we actually harvest so the algorithm can adjust. Dreaming big here, it would also be nice to be able to customize the calendar further, since my husband also likes to experiment with indoor hydroponics and so we grow peppers over the winter, too.

Best app I’ve found

Love this little app. I downloaded so many apps. I used them for a while. I’ve used a note pad, a calendar but none of them checked the boxes like this one does. Farm your yard takes the guess work out of when to plant and fertilize.

Wish list: that a landscape format is added. Ability to choose plants above and below my zone. Would like the option to experiment with plant not typically in my zone.

Glad to see that additional fruits and vegetables have been added. I have recommended FarmYourYard to my sister who’s been an urban farmer for a while. She too was using her memory to stay on schedule, or paper. Neither of which are reliable. Please keep updating and developing FarmYourYard. I love it!

Seems like a good idea but lacks some things

I love the variety of the plants to add, that you can add your own, and how it tells you your zone and the information associated with that. However, you cannot change your location, which is a must for me as I travel full time and am never in the same place for a long time. It’d also be nice if the calendar told you when to water depending on the weather in the area. Other than that it’s a pretty good app.

High potential

Great app, needs broader selection of plants. A much wider selection of regional native plants would be helpful, as well, especially for those of us who are trying to encourage local native habitat. Some glitches with FarmYourYard itself, just had to delete and then re-download. I’m really looking forward to the planned additions that you’re currently sourcing information for. Might I suggest possibly looking into a wild foraging calendar by regional zone with responsible foraging advice and tips? And of course, the accessibility of the free aspect is wonderful. Hoping to make excellent use of it this year!

Really good

FarmYourYard seems to have a lot of great information on vegetable gardening, from last and first frost dates for your growing zone, to ideal planting times for a variety of plants. So much more. I am especially to input all my planting info from handwritten notes and various spreadsheets. Hopefully the developer will add the ability diagram your own garden. But that may be too much to ask. Overall, a very helpful app.

Lots of potential

It's a very user-friendly app, I like my garden tracking simple and organized, the layout of FarmYourYard is perfect for me. FEATURE REQUEST: I really love to try indoor planting during winters, I could set up shelves for lettuces, start herbs from seeds, potato on crates? or anything that's possible to do indoor, I just hope there's an app which can provide guidelines on those kind of things. Please be that app:) good work you're doing right there.

Just found out how to select varieties!

I’ve been using FarmYourYard about a week, seeing if I want to replace my spreadsheet and paper system… it seemed generally useful at first, but not much more than the paper veggie gardening calendar our local extension office puts out… but I just figured out that if you tap on a veggie in your garden plan, you can add notes and pick a variety! **FEATURE REQUESTS:**I do wish there were a way for me to track yields tied to location … I know what I’m predicted to yield but that’s not the same as having a record of actual yield and in which spot certain things did better or worse. I also plant heirloom varieties and wish there was a way to type my own variety label in. Also when you add a second variety of the same thing later, the things seem to be sorted in “order added” so you might have beets at the top and bottom of the list, rather than being sorted alphabetically and also sorted by “next action required”

Good app for beginners

I just got FarmYourYard a week ago finding garden planning apps. This is a great app for beginners. It gives u lots of information on the plant when and where to plant them if they need support etc. I just wish they had more plant options to choose from. Maybe it’ll happen as the season changes. We shall see but great app so far and they even give u notifications on when to do it with dates. How awesome is that

Really Really liking this app

I’m was trying to find a replacement for my paper, pencil color coded spreadsheet.
FarmYourYard is extremely simple to use. I am the furthest things from being technology savvy.
Make sure you tap on a vegetable example lettuce you will be brought to another screen where you can choose the variety if your variety is not listed you can manually add it. FarmYourYard gives you options asking if you need to purchase the seeds or already have them. Will you be purchasing as seedlings or growing your own. There are a few more options in that area as well.
I used the note section in that area to add all the information from the back of the seed packet.
Once you go through the list adding all the veggies you are planning on planting in your garden your home page will have changed.
A list of the veggies your planting will be listed as things to do with dates. Giving you date ranges to purchase seeds/seedlings or start your seeds indoors, transplant and harvest. Click on an individual veggie to see the tasks, when you’ve completed that task click task completed.
I’ve also used the note area to log all of my steps in detail, I am always experimenting with different growing methods I was able to add all of that info to the notes.
I have only been using FarmYourYard for about 1 week so far I really really like FarmYourYard.

So easy to use and understand.

You want an easy and simple gardening calendar, then this is FarmYourYard for you, and I’ve browsed quite a few. I look forward to when they’re able to raise the funds for the companion plants and trees updates cause it would be very useful to have instead of constantly having to Google each one. The only thing that FarmYourYard is missing would be a way to plan or maybe map a garden. But considering how it’s all free compared to other apps this isn’t bad at all.

So helpful!

I absolutely love FarmYourYard! It’s been so helpful for my partner and I. We started a garden recently and have very little knowledge on the subject. FarmYourYard was super easy to use and gave us tons of tips. We didn’t have to go around doing a bunch of research on when to plant and water, we just let the notifications tell us what to do. I really love that they also offer set garden guides so you don’t have to think about all the possible veggies. They just choose for you. All in all, I would highly recommend. We are already seeing great results in our garden!

Love this!!!

I love how it’s keeping me organized as to when to plant according to my zone. I live in So Cal but by the mountains so most blogs generalize what my zone is ….but FarmYourYard gets it right! It put me in 9B…we have zone 9, 9A and B so for years I’ve been confused as to what zone I’m actually in. I love how it tells me the exact dates as to when to plant and when to sow as well as when to harvest. The only thing I wish it had was a grid so I would know how to organize and space out my plants in my raised beds. I use another app for that but I wish it was all in one. Going to be spending a lot of time in FarmYourYard ! Thank you!

Polished and useful app

I’ve been on the market for a planning app and found this through a friend. After having used a paper calendar, this one has been a huge leg up. There are some minor issues which I expect will get worked out but I was able to get started and done in a about 30 mins. Most of that time was spent transferring dates from the paper calendar or the plant markers into FarmYourYard . Once I was done, it gave me a nice planting/harvest chart that’s intuitive. I now know that I can expect to harvest my first tomato’s in 2 weeks! There are hidden gems like goal setting (10% Grow Your Own) that has potential, and the garden guides are a delight. Cute illustrations, uncluttered and free.

Perfect for novice and experienced gardners

FarmYourYard is so great for helping me know when to plant veggies during the year. I love the simplicity of the design, the explanations of all the plants and the flexibility of creating my own custom garden. We don’t have a lot of space so it’s so great knowing what will fit, and types of plants that can grow well together. And I love knowing when to plant and harvest. Two green thumbs up for FarmYourYard.
