Does NOT work - Keyfob works better

I paid $600+ to have this installed on my Ariya because I don’t carry a purse and hate having to attach a key fob to my phone. With NissanVirtualKey you CANNOT walk up to you car and have it recognize your virtual key and unlock automatically (like the keyfob does). NissanVirtualKey does NOT control the unlock button on your car. Instead, you have to pull out your phone, open NissanVirtualKey , and WAIT and WAIT for it to connect and only then can you hit unlock from NissanVirtualKey . I was stuck in a parking garage just WAITING and WAITING standing next to my car and felt VERY unsafe. When I was FINALLY able to get into my car, then you have to hit the “Enable start” button on NissanVirtualKey . WHY do I have to enable this every time??!! Why doesn’t NissanVirtualKey just keep “enable start” always enabled??!! Do NOT waste your money…the keyfob (although bulky to carry) has MUCH better functionality. NissanVirtualKey is the crappiest most useless key and if a keyfob worked like this, everyone would be up in arms. I am now trying to get Nissan to refund me for this absolutely useless aftermarket “feature”. I should have bought a Tesla with this feature already installed and working properly. UGH!!!!!!!

Privacy disaster

Well my Nissan Virtual Key was installed. Didn’t take me 3 min to find the first major strike against NissanVirtualKey . I went to share my virtual key with my daughter and after hitting the Invite New Driver button it prompted me to share my contacts with NissanVirtualKey . No flipping way am I letting this random company upload my contacts. So I said no. And in return, poof, the feature of sharing my virtual key with someone is now disabled. Makes no sense that I have to give you contact information for every contact in my address book so I can share the virtual key with one person. What in the world is Nissan and this third party developer thinking? (And that’s putting it mildly.) There’s no technical reason you need access to all of my contacts’ information and you’re not getting it. There’s a principle in IT: you don’t want any more access to systems or information that what you absolutely need. If you don’t follow this principle then you are unnecessarily vulnerable to more problems when systems are breached or fail. Start following this principle or you’ll have fewer customers, and Nissan will sell fewer cars.

Not a winner

Spent 8 hours at the dealer waiting for the installation, only to have the start button not appear on NissanVirtualKey screen. Enable remote start button is on the screen, but not the actual start button.

Does nothing at all !!!!!!!!

NissanVirtualKey will not function.
It will not take a password, and clicking on password help is totally useless too. It will never respond.
The developers must be on a long vacation after they uploaded NissanVirtualKey.

Need virtual key kit installed first

App is totally useless without a $400+ virtual key kit from the dealership. Wasted a good hour trying to connect to my car until I reread the description more closely. Don’t bother to download NissanVirtualKey in addition to the poor reviews already submitted before my review.

Nissan apps are crap

Very hard to get apps for Nissan cars. It is a problem to figure out which market you can use eg. I am from Europe but I am using USA market, and can’t use my Nissan account on apps from USA market. This particular app does not state it is aimed just for USA market, but I can’t login. Password reset does not work. Before review I wanted to give developer a chance to explain but all I get as a response is bad email and returned email. App support email for NissanVirtualKey is not working.

Vehicle not connected!

I have been using NissanVirtualKey without a major problem until today.
Suddenly, NissanVirtualKey says vehicle not connected. I’ve deleted and reinstalled NissanVirtualKey . My Bluetooth is on, I can’t find anything online about this… there aren’t any dealerships open and being that it’s new, I know they won’t know what to say to me.
I was stuck outside of my car for an hour and needed to find a ride to pick up my kids.
I’m really annoyed!

Agreed with previous review

We have been trying for a week with support on getting a password reset and they have escalated it to the top which means nothing…….still no response !

Chechy

NissanVirtualKey need a lot improvement. I just got a Nissan rogue and they instal the virtual key at the car dealer just work in there for the demo after that I cannot connect my car. I can’t use the virtual key. I’m no happy at all

A complete waste of money

I paid extra for this feature for my brand new Murano. It has never worked and nobody can seem to fix it. I paid $600 to have this feature and can’t even use it. Don’t waste your money.

Waste of money

I understand I’m going to need to be closer to my Pathfinder than when I use my key fob. But the real pisser is the remote start fails every single time. When I get in and I press the brake and start key, the car shuts off. I placed calls to Tom Peacock Dealership in North Houston and they have failed to return my phone calls. When I brought this up to them 3 weeks after I bought the car in November, the guy said he would need to research the problem. It’s March and I haven’t heard back from them. So yeah, poor customer service on top of everything.

Oh! And the Apple Watch app of this quit working. It doesn’t find the car and bring up the buttons anymore. Great!

A waste of money!!!

Although the availability of a virtual key was one of the selling points of the Ariya, this version of it is a disaster, and a complete waste of the $1000 the dealer charged. With some other brands of EV, the Virtual Key recognizes the approach and departure of the driver, and overall his as good as having a fob. This Nissan version is not that, not even close!

Furthermore, it is a privacy disaster, demanding access to ALL of your contacts! And those go to a third party!

We love our new Ariya, but we might not have bought it if we had known that Virtual Key is such a disaster, as that was a significant factor for us. What a waste of $1000! Honestly, I feel like we were ripped off by Nissan, and even by the dealer who should have told us that Virtual Key is a trash app.

Virtual key on iphone

I work in a dealership and NissanVirtualKey don’t work on iphone can you fix it?

Mixed capability

I purchased the $450 part and paid the $150 in labor for installation. I was really looking forward to not having to carry a key, but the capability is a bit mixed for me. You have to wait 5 to 7 seconds for NissanVirtualKey to connect to the car and then you have to select that you want to be able to start the car, then you can start your car. I can get over that a bit, but the really frustrating one is that I cannot use the button on my car to lock and unlock it anymore. I can only use NissanVirtualKey . So I am now standing at my car opening my phone, waiting for it to connect when I can press the unlock. All the while everyone is grabbing door handles trying to get in the car. I am about to start carrying the key fob and call this a waste of $600.
One would think that between Bluetooth and NFC that the system could be good at proximity like a key fob and allow these functions. To me this needs more maturing before it is ready for prime time.

Great app if you understand it

I purchased the Nissan Virtual Key system so I can operate my vehicle without having the keys with me. Great when I go for a run, forget to bring my keys, if I’m wearing shorts and don’t want extra items in my pocket, or if I want to give other people the ability to drive my vehicle without giving them the key fob. This system works perfectly with the Apple Watch and the iPhone which I have on me at all times. It appears the reasons for the negative reviews is that people don’t realize that you need to have the Virtual Key kit, which is a Nissan accessory, installed by the dealer for NissanVirtualKey to work. You need the kit which is about $450, the programming coil and accessory connector, which is another $100, and about four hours of dealer labor to install. This is a fairly pricey accessory, but worth it to me for the added functionality and security I get. And keep in mind this doesn’t require a monthly subscription like Nissan Connect with allows allows operation of your vehicle without the key fob. A great accessory if you understand the extra costs involved to make it work.

Your Car Needs To Be Nissan Certified

So I talk to the sells agent and told me my 2023 Nissan doesn’t have virtual hardware (sorry for not specifying my car for privacy purposes)
I do love continental amazing tire brand had em on my car previews car, giving it 5 stars, hopefully this helps someone before putting a 1 star rating to this guys that working hard

Works pretty well

I have a 2022 Nissan Versa SR in orange. Hopefully one day they will update NissanVirtualKey to show the current model year vehicles and colors. (I’m using a 2019 versa in black as my profile picture). One can dream. 😉

Wish I didn’t have to open app

Works great but would be better if it just unlocked when I walked to car. Like a key fob in pocket

Installed it at the dealership and love it!

Most definitely underrated accessories of all time. No more key fobs! It’s easy to use and quick to share with my wife and daughter.
Definitely worth the price since our cars share a smaller driveway. Why not make this a standard feature? My Ariya is smarter than it already is!

Awesome

I think most people who have negative reviews here don’t understand that NissanVirtualKey only works with some installed hardware.
I had the dealer instal it, connected the key, and it’s an awesome addition to my 2022 Pathfinder. Works without the key fob, I can remotely share the vehicle as I need, and if you ever lose a key, this will solve the headache of being stranded.
Understand NissanVirtualKey and you won’t regret setting this up.
