Clean, simple to use, with integration and extras included

I haven't dug too much, but the fact you have a debug area for people to clean if they want is, to me at least very appreciated. I have two questions, but before that. One suggestion. Instead of having to have a setting default to switching the state to read when clicked, or doing it after you leave the view, maybe a button at the bottom such can be added to give you options to have it read, even delete it (If it's causing extra memory to be used that is, not sure how that works) if they no longer need it, but then have the extra options to move that certain post in case they will be using it again. Questions. Is it being implemented as a browser in AnOtterRSSReader that will have cookies and trackers latch on? Also, the serious one for now.. Why does it seem like every developer, or just I don't even know.. What is going on with Twitter?? Hahaha. Thanks!

Not sure why it didn't paragraph my text.. I surely did, also an issue. I subscribed to the Otter and the indiedev, when I came to type that first review, I went back to AnOtterRSSReader and the feeds were gone. Like they got consumed after they were already consumed, haha.

Better than okayest!

It does what it says on the tin: it reads RSS feeds. Other features are strictly in service of that core function. No accounts, no suggested or “curated ;)“ content. It doesn’t send me emails, or even ask for my email. This is what I’m after in an RSS reader.

But! It syncs to iCloud so I can read stuff across devices without thinking about it! It loads full articles without fussing with subscriptions and nonsense! It supports reader view! These things all serve to enhance the feed-reading experience without demanding your attention or getting in your way.

Two small features I’d like to see: an option to default to reader-view and swipe to mark as read. AnOtterRSSReader is great without those things, but I’d appreciate them.

Very good so far

This looks like a very good app and it's pretty easy to understand. Then again I've been using computers since the mid to late 80s, so there ya go. But still.... this IS easy!!

AnOtterRSSReader works for me. I use it for the news sources I have, because I don't want to pollute my other RSS app with politics. I think we all need a break from politics from time to time, don't you?

I would like AnOtterRSSReader to have two choices for when people open it up: 1- That the sidebar showing each news feed under it's own grouping is open upon opening AnOtterRSSReader and 2- in addition, to keep it's current setting.

I like to have, say, all my ABC articles under one tab, all my DEF articles in another tab. I do not prefer the way it currently is, where I have to manually open the sidebar.

Otherwise, AnOtterRSSReader is very simple and very easy. Also, I didn't check before leaving this review, and I can't close this review to go look, but what I would like to have is the ability to save individual articles in reader mode (no ads, just text) onto PDF. I also would like to have a favorites folder, organized by site, to store monumental articles.

Better than ok

I’d been struggling with the rss readers in AnOtterRSSReader store. Every one of them is very pretty, fine, but every one of them mostly serves up whatever specific sources the developer wants me to see. Otter is beautiful, minimal, and functional. I add the rss, I get a list of headlines, and I can organize them by folder. Literally all I wanted.

….ok I wouldn’t be sad if there was a toggle option to turn on thumbail images on the screen preview list for articles, I do follow a lot of art blogs, but that’s it. Otherwise perfect. If that would mess up the wonderful design AnOtterRSSReader has, then better than perfect and forget I said anything at all.

pretty much perfect!

I just needed an RSS reader that was free and functional, and it is all that and more. AnOtterRSSReader is well-designed, it's pretty and minimal, and most importantly it does the job I need it to do.

As one of those "hey if it works, it works" kind of people, I appreciate that it's an app that was pretty much born out of necessity and keeps things simple, and maybe that's why it's truly such an A app. And it's got on otter on the front. More things in life should be cute. Wonderful, thanks a lot for AnOtterRSSReader, Josh!

Best looking RSS reader

Looks good and works well.

I’m fairly new to RSS as well, but I was thinking of self hosting my own miniflux rss client. Miniflux implements the Fever API alongside its own REST API. I was wondering if I could get otter to connect to a Miniflux’s Fever API endpoint so I can stay synced across my self hosted client and otter?

Let me know if it’s possible or you don’t see yourself adding too many features. Btw, I tipped you for your great work and congrats on your newborn (I was reading your blog post).

Well designed and dang cute

AnOtterRSSReader might be described as "okayest" but I certainly think it's great! It syncs well between my phone and computer, and has a good balance between a straightforward, easy-to-use interface and customization where I need it. Plus, AnOtterRSSReader name and design are clever and adorable. You can tell the developers put a lot of love and thought into this. I love it and use it every day!

Beautiful

I have just started using Otter and love it. After Google dropped its RSS Reader, this is the first one I have really liked. Adding feeds is a breeze. If I can’t find the RSS Feed URL I can paste the webpage URL and Otter can detect the feed URL if available. Categorization is a breeze. And the simple aesthetics are so good that I will now have to buy a Scandinavian home to go with it. Well done developers.

Good start

Cleaner than many RSS readers without all the “discovery” cruft that takes over most of the others. My feature requests are a compact mode to fit more feeds on the screen, a pages scrolling mode, and gestures to mark as read a single feed or all the feeds on the display/page.

Also that otter is cute.

Nice free RSS reader

Works as advertised. Easemporting an existing list of feeds from another reader on my Mac was a big plus.

The only improvement would be to reduce the white space between the list of feeds.

Good app, still buggy

Would be the perfect RSS app however several bugs prevent it from being completely functional. Pull-to-refresh breaks if you have too many feeds. Share sheet button doesn’t do anything on the article view. Restoring purchases doesn’t work. Would recommend adding icons to the feeds. If fixed would be perfect.

Perfect RSS app! Not too much. Not too little.

I don't know who Josh Holtz nailed it again. AnOtterRSSReader is so fire! It's free and the feeds sync over iCloud between all of my devices.

Is this real life? I don't think it is. This is the RSS app that everyone needs to try!

Trouble persisting feeds

Hey, I have been having trouble having feeds persist after closing AnOtterRSSReader ; when I subscribe to feeds and close AnOtterRSSReader , all the feeds are gone, making me have to read each url. Unsure if theres a way to save different feeds?

Otherwise love the minimalist nature of AnOtterRSSReader !

Need offline articles

please download the entire article for offline viewing! I only go online rarely..

Proof free does not mean inferior

I've seen many RSS apps over the decades and this one nails the most important features people use RSS for while looking sleek and clean and syncing across devices.

Love the minimal design

Love the minimal design. Would like slightly more if there was a share shortcut by long pressing an individual item. Otherwise I agree it’s the okayest RSS reader. Will keep using it. I like the iCloud sync.

You otter know …

that Otter RSS is the best feed reader I’ve come across to date. The best part, you ask? … is that it’s free but is well deserving of the tip option it features.

Crash when I try to import the feeds from the opml file.

As a new app, I hope it becoming better and better. I give this review just to tell the developer the bug I am suffering. Know it from Michael Tsai’s blog. I trust him, and download it. Give me the chance to use it please.
