GoodRec (ex Just Play) Reviews

Recently moved to the city and was looking for a way to find semi organized games, moderate skill level, with flexibility around my schedule. GoodRecexJustPlay makes it really easy to find a game. I’ve been now to three games and all have been solid - well organized, players were friendly and took it just serious enough to make it a compelling pickup game to participate in. I found the price to be appropriate especially considering the organization behind getting the games set up. All in all, It’s a great concept that I hope to see more active users on. It really seems to have been picking up momentum; I’m finding that games are popping up at new fields and getting closer to places I frequent which makes it nice to explore different neighborhoods and games. Lastly, I kind of like the social proof elements (it helped to assuage my skepticism upfront) and tying GoodRecexJustPlay into normal social media channels as well, it’s cool to see photos from the matches on IG/FB - takes me back to my college playing days lol, it’s been a WHILE since I had a photo taken playing soccer.

Last year i spent all summer trying to find a field with people playing soccer and unfortunately i was unsuccessful with the search , so i was very happy when i came across GoodRecexJustPlay , i was a bit nervous about what i was going to walk into for these pickup games , as a ex varsity soccer player i was worried about whether i was going to play against kids who never played the sport , my first game with justplay was super fun and competitive but not crazy competitive we all had fun , had a great workout and everyone was involved in the game everyone was passing it felt like we all played on the same team for years , this was exactly what i was looking for and now i can play pickup soccer every week again and stay in shape , so glad GoodRecexJustPlay exists

When I moved to NYC I knew almost no one. I spent time looking for pickup soccer with random groups and never felt like I found the right fit until I started playing with JP. I started playing 3x / week all around the city and gave me the chance to experience new places and meet new people.

I’ve since played games in Detroit, Chicago, and Phoenix and always have a fun time. Best way to get a workout for sure 🤟

Just Play is an app that aims to connect people who love to play pickup sports with one another. However, charging money to participate in pickup sports seems to go against the spirit of the activity. The beauty of pickup games is that they are typically free and open to all, allowing people from all walks of life to come together and enjoy a friendly game of sport. By charging people to play, Just Play takes away the inclusiveness and community-building aspect of pickup sports. This decision has likely caused frustration and disappointment among users who expected to participate in a free and open pickup game. To make things worse the Host of the game had a power trip and tried to kick off a bunch of families and kids when we had plenty of space to play. It is also concerning that GoodRecexJustPlay is profiting from what should be a fun, community-driven activity. Overall, Just Play's decision to charge for pickup sports goes against the very essence of the activity and has likely resulted in a negative experience for many users.

I had a fun time playing soccer in GoodRecexJustPlay but then we had a female host which i don’t mind and don’t care if she plays with us that’s not the issue but she was on a power trip threatening to kick like 5-6 players out of the pitch including me because we are talking in a language she don’t understand and started making up things when she went to luis who didn’t think twice obviously about what really went down and decided to threat every one that we will be banned from GoodRecexJustPlay so i guess if u want to play with your friends you have to take courses in english otherwise this might happen to you too
But we’re not going to use GoodRecexJustPlay again because that’s now how things work we are playing football to enjoy and not to have this kind of issues and to be threatened there are a lot of pitches in this country which you can play for free also 😀

The Company relies on outsourcing their Community Outreach overseas, which will spam forums, social media sites for pick up games. At times they’ll make it out to be a regular “pickup game” until you realize it’s a pay to pay scheme.

The hosts aren’t paid at all nor are compensated for their time other than a “free game”, in which they’re the ones hosting in. One might be able to play but the bigger the game, the less time they get to play.

To get a refund, you have to back out over 24hrs in advance, which isn’t always possible, with little to no Customer Service. The only way to identify who works for JP is if theyre the ones spamming invites through GoodRecexJustPlay or within the in game chat. The games are being more expensive as well.

Personally, the idea of GoodRecexJustPlay is great and it works. But they’re in it to maximize profits and saving as much as possible by hiring contractors abroad who may be very rude / poor employees and treat the hosts with no respect for their time - especially when all they are, are volunteers and don’t get paid.

The system has a blank which in times of COVID could have serious consequences. They don’t refund credit even with valid reasons. They don’t even care to listen. So, if you tested positive or got around someone who tested positive, you still either loose your money or show up and risk everyone else. They could easily grant your credit for a future game. Also, games are overpriced and JP does not pay hosts nor does it cover basic needs for the hosts such as laundry. Therefore, don’t be surprised if you have to play with some dirty sweaty training bibs they provide. Of course, there’s a lot positive about the experience but there are several positive and few critical reviews here).

I love GoodRecexJustPlay! A few reasons: -They host pickup sports matches and it’s the prime method I get my workouts in. I’d much rather be playing sports I’m passionate about than be in a gym -The games are well organized and generally high-quality -I’ve been able to make many friends through this community! It can be harder to make friends in a big city, but this is a really easy way to do so I can’t wait to see what comes next!!

GoodRecexJustPlay is incredibly easy and simple to use. There’s a wide variety of fields to play at, including both indoor and outdoor as well as some rooftop fields.
What stands out the most from Just Play is the community it’s created. Everyone is friendly and the games are always a good time.
Also, if you like having photos & videos taken of yourself playing this is the place for you!

Just play allows for social play and competitive play. It’s a great mix for all levels of volleyball players. Along with being able to play different sports at different levels, you also have the opportunities to host games and play for free. I wish I found them sooner !

Yesterday, May 12th, I and 5 other Brazilians had scheduled to play through the Just Play application in Denver.
I was the only one among the Brazilians who had already played through GoodRecexJustPlay .
We all live in Loveland, which is more than an hour's drive from the game site.
We arrived at the venue and found out that the game was cancelled, and that there was no chance of having a game. The host Izzy Martinez responsible just cancelled the game and didn't say why or try to contact anyone.
We tried to get in touch several times through the application and did not get a response. We were in 14 people on the court and all ready to play, but the woman in charge made no effort to help us. All of us would just like to play for 1h30, and we are ready for that.
It was a ridiculous situation.
In total, we spent 2 hours driving and lost our Friday night.
I am frustrated and do not recommend GoodRecexJustPlay .

There is a few minor ux issues i can point out: 1. Your next going event should be on top of the list. Currently, you can see past events on top.
2. Pictures of some members are not clickable to see and recognize them on the field
3. Imo there should be 2 ‘all events’ and ‘going’ tabs in Games section. Right/left swipe to switch between each other

I used to love Just Play; games were high quality and reliable. In the past few months, there have been several scheduling mishaps leading to opaque last minute cancellations.

Moreover, many of the games have been low levels of play. Beginners play intermediate, intermediate players play advanced, and no one regulates this dynamic.

I still use GoodRecexJustPlay because there are so few other options. But I now use it reluctantly, rather than excitedly.

If there were more communication and engagement from the people behind GoodRecexJustPlay , I’d feel more optimistic. But none of the feedback I’ve shared has received a response. Overall, I get the sense that they don’t really care about the player experience.

Get GoodRecexJustPlay and don’t look back. It’s the future of playing sports. I just moved to NYC, love playing all sports, and travel a lot. GoodRecexJustPlay has it all and every single person I’ve interacted with through it has been kind and understanding. Thank you JP🥳

I used to love GoodRecexJustPlay. Plenty of 90 minute games for $10, but that isn’t the case anymore. Almost all of the games are 60 minutes now and many have become more expensive. I never understood why 60 minute games were equally as expensive to 90 minute games, but at least there were an abundance of 90 minute games to choose from. This combined with no reward system and games often starting late is enough for me to stop using GoodRecexJustPlay . Bummer because it’s a great concept

I am I found GoodRecexJustPlay. It’s much better than other pick-up games I’ve played at. It’s organized, people show up on time and the facilities are great. Good level of play and friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to playing again. Will bring some friends along for the fun as well.

GoodRecexJustPlay it’s just so good, bringing ppl together to have fun and do one thing it’s playing the beautiful game! Meeting new ppl with different skills as person and player. Can improve with price so no body it’s left behind of the fun.👍

I went to my first game in last Monday and it was well organized. The right amount of people showed up and rules were followed. If more people get on GoodRecexJustPlay the better it will be.

GoodRecexJustPlay is the right place if your looking for some fun games. Just moved to Houston and through this I have been able to enjoy playing soccer and knowing nice people

Love GoodRecexJustPlay , love how easy it is to schedule games and go play the directions are super clear and everyone is nice. The pennies are always clean the only thing i’d say is that it is a bit pricey per game

Signed up for two people for a volleyball game. 14 people signed up on GoodRecexJustPlay so I was expecting a good turnout. Showed up and only 7 people came, which isn’t GoodRecexJustPlay /team fault. Where it went wrong was the Host, Jorge Saucedo, did not show up to the game at all for the ENTIRE night. We had no liaison and no one to talk to to ask questions as to what will happen now since only half the people showed up. I ended up talking to the facility people to ask how we could solve it, but they couldn’t do anything about it because the Host, Jorge, wasn’t there.

This happened June 30. I’ve been following up with Jorge still to this day and he only responded once. He did apologize, but left me on seen and hasn’t done anything about it.

Horrible customer service and experience. It was my first time using GoodRecexJustPlay and I will never use it again

My only experience of playing through Just Play was alright. There was one player who was weird and aggressive, but everyone else was good.

My only problem with GoodRecexJustPlay right now is that I cannot delete my profile. I keep clicking “Delete Account” on the settings page and it just keeps saying “failed to delete account”… If someone could please fix this bug that would be great. It’s hard to see users go, but blocking users from deleting account is not the right way to stop the churn.

I went to the gym with my boyfriend in Bedstuy to watch him play. As a visitor the staff yelled at me and was extremely harsh when I was in no way a threat to her or the facility. They say I can’t stay with my dog. No problem I left. But then they said he couldn’t play.

The service was overall very horrible. They were very unclear as to the reason why he was not allowed to play when he was in fact asked to be the host. From that encounter I left so that my boyfriend could play since we traveled. The lady threatened to call the cops while noting they had a great relationship when really I was just trying to understand why he could no longer play. Now Just Play has banned him without reason. Hes booked GoodRecexJustPlay over 20 times in four months with no issues. Bad experience (referring to NY)

GoodRecexJustPlay was extremely promising when I first downloaded it, and I was able to play some great sessions with great players. However, on multiple occasions I would go to fields/facilities expecting a full session, and the facilities would be closed and/or not expecting us.

In every instance that this has occurred, I have never received a refund or any type of updates from “just play”, and the hosts have limited sightline, if any at all, in regards to how to best move forward, or why we couldn’t access the field.

Getting answers is extremely difficult and, as you can imagine, extremely frustrating, considering 16 people have traveled to a field expecting to play, all to be left standing outside of the facility.

So today I got a new phone I try to log into my account and I’ve forgot my password so when I try to reset my password I put my email, they couldn’t verify my account or recognize my email. I had $1 credit in my account now I can’t log in. Is there anyone can help me 😭?

This was a great app for a while until not once, but twice without warning it suddenly shut down the volleyball drop ins in Denver CO. I’ve been a host since May and worked really hard to create a community of people who played several times a week and have become friends, and had no prior knowledge of them shutting down and had to field dozens of phone calls and text messages from people who were upset. This is not how you do business. They also only hire girls who live in South America because they can pay them less than Americans but they never have any employees working in America or showing up to the games which I think is very unprofessional. You need to have your employees showing up to the games not just spamming people on social media. They also don’t pay the hosts for their time they just give them a free game.

Where do I even start? The quality of open plays is abysmal - imagine going to an “advanced” session just to find out that not even half of the players can hit a ball over the net. There is no policing, so multiple times I’ve just left the game because it was a WASTE OF TIME. The people running NY volleyball are literally in a different country, so there’s a massive disconnect and complete sense of apathy. The worst example of this is when they organized a 50+ person tournament and DIDN’T RESERVE THE COURTS. Literally had 50+ people from all across tri-state come to this place just to turn them all away at the door, and this was after I SPECIFICALLY MESSAGED TO ASK IF THE TOURNAMENT WAS STILL HAPPENING. Regardless of what happened behind the scenes, this shows that nobody bothered to call and confirm courts the day before a massive tourney. The worst part is the amount they offered as consolation: $50 in app credit PER TEAM. Yep, just about $7 per person for wasting countless hours of time, when a typical session is $23. Absolutely disgusting. Other cities might have it better, but if you’re in NYC then do yourself a favor and play volleyball somewhere else. These people don’t deserve a single cent.

Used to be cool. Quality dropped for who the opponents are with the price going way up. 15 min for 50 min. Have had last minute cancellations within 20 min of start time and the money is stuck as “credit” and I was already there and still saw the field get used in a shady way. They also lie about how many players are in I have had several times where I pay and join a session because it looks almost full and then once I join the true number is lower than what was there before. They took over our my cities local pick up groups with ads of paid pickup and got kicked out of the Facebook groups with rule changes made to keep just play out. I can back all this up not just being tilted in writing a review. All in all I have had fun but there is a lot of shady stuff when sports are a beautiful game and it could be way simplified.

The games hosted via GoodRecexJustPlay are always organized — Pinnies are provided, everyone shows up, nice field, good goals, starts on time. The support team are also there to make sure you will smoothly join the games.

Super-user friendly app. Great App Support as well. Literally downloaded GoodRecexJustPlay and was able to find a pick-up game 2 miles away from my condo same day. There were also several other pick up games within a 10 mile radius. Great choice of field and skill levels.
My first run was with Base Athletics— Host was attentive and friendly. The facility was clean and equipped with a plethora of pennys and balls. The Players were of all competitive skill levels. Will be integrating GoodRec in my daily workout!!!

Apparently booked 22 people for a 20 person booking according to the body count at the court - no refs or anyone who worked there to figure out who was who and organize the games, therefore the games just devolved into full court 1 on 1, and 35 foot 3 pointers - didn't even both playing more than 3 games before I went home lol.

If you're telling people to pay for a product, it has to be upkept, or else it just devolves into, frankly something not worth paying for.

Also if you have 20 people, You HAVE to have refs, if you gave a ref that can call 5 seconds or can break up a fight, that's huge. No excuse for no refs.

I fly all over the country for work and I enjoy the feature GoodRecexJustPlay has of changing cities so I can join games ahead of time. The game experience is great and everyone is always friendly at matches.
Only thing that could be better is the customer service. If you need assistance with an issue, GoodRecexJustPlay doesn’t have in-app assistance as Plei (another pick up soccer app) does.
Their refund policy could also be better. No refund within 24 hours of cancelling is a bit too restrictive.

Otherwise it is a great app to pick up games and the hosts are always very kind and explain the rules very well and keep the game safe
