NYCSchoolBus Really needs to be fixed and updated, It has never worked. And still continues not to work even when I keep getting emails saying NYCSchoolBus is up and running. Useless and a big waste of time. It wont log in and I keep getting error”something went wrong”. Have uninstalled and reinstalled many times.
I give the DOE 5 stars for good intention and 0 for execution. It took me a week to get into NYCSchoolBus . Even once I had all the required info I had to change my pw multiple times.
Once I was actually in, NYCSchoolBus was more or less ok. Nothing special but gets the job done. The yellow bus takes up an entire city block even in the most zoomed in view.
Keep in mind that it lags by at least a block, so if you’re relying on it for afternoon pickup, like me, make sure to come out at least 2-3 blocks before it’s actually at your stop.

NYCSchoolBus shows the correct names of my children, bus route number, and school, but these shows me a bus location with a different drivers name in an entirely different borough. There's no way to report the problem through NYCSchoolBus . It's useles. If I didn't know the name of the driver was wrong I might have panicked that the bus driver kidnapped all the kids.

After NYC awarded $36m to Via to make NYCSchoolBus, someone needs to be responsible for such a poor product. We need a full audit and hold people accountable for wasting government money like this. It is criminal.
Never worked, can’t even sign out for using another account
NYCSchoolBus NEVER WORKS. No matter how many times you try to open it up after waiting in the cold weather for 30 mins. It's either loading or telling you sth went wrong. Tax payer wasted their money on a piece of garbage. I'm surprised in AI era this company Via still managed to make an app that never works. Even more surprised DOE let this pass and paid them.
Every time I try to log in I get an error message, “something went wrong, please try again”. I even deleted and reinstalled NYCSchoolBus and it seems like it’s still running. Also why does it need access to so much of my private information?
Give no updates gives no information only basic information names telephone number. It’s just something the DOE have to say there updated on technology but not true waste of a good idea for kids and their families of a App.

No need to repeat what’s been written. Just read the 1-star reviews and completely disregard the couple of positive reviews. My only add is that you may want to remember to uninstall NYCSchoolBus from your phone after you finish wasting your time trying it!

Yes, everything went wrong: Despite NYC public schools spending millions for Via to provide an app to track the school buses our children ride, despite paying for GPS trackers to be installed on the buses, despite whatever was paid to develop NYCSchoolBus, Via has never been able to make it work for NYC public school parents to track our children’s buses. This is the largest public school system in the United States, in a heavily congested, traffic nightmare city, and we could really use the ability to track our children on their school buses, which are so often late or don’t show up. I log in (not easy with glitchy interface), see my children, who ride the bus every day to and from school, and every morning and every afternoon it says “no activity”—even though I put them on the bus and pick them up myself. They are on the bus. This is just a colossal failure. If it ever works, I’ll update my review, because we really need this to happen!

As a software engineer myself being forced to use NYCSchoolBus to track my child’s bus is a disgrace. She has cerebral palsy and has t ride the bus every day . This was supposed to be a tool to assist in coordination with the bus company. All this is , is a headache which is sad because an app like this doesn’t take much to work smoothly . You’re not re inventing the wheel gps tracking with devices is simple . You guys have NO EXCUSE for having such a poorly made app!!! These kids need everyone’s BEST effort . It just seems like via took the DOE’s money and delivered whatever they wanted. Wish they launch a bid for someone to make a new app! I would build one that rips this one to pieces by MYSELF. Via should be ashamed of themselves!!!
I give it 0 stars I been trying to get into NYCSchoolBus since it was introduced to the parents dad it’s doesn’t work. Called the bus company, the school, and I got a number but still not working worse app ever invented.
NYCSchoolBus does not work half the time. its beyond annoying and inconvenient. its keeps looping and doesn't allow you to login. it doesnt help that the bus itself doesnt have a consistent schedule. Do better!
One can’t even contact support by phone, email or chat within NYCSchoolBus . Crazy that NYC would spend so much money with a politically connected company when my neighbor has an app called Here Comes the Bus which is infinitely better and likely costs a fraction as much

No, everything went wrong. NYCSchoolBus won’t even let me log in. Just keeps giving me an error message. Why is all of the tech for the NYC DOE so terrible? Via should be ashamed that they took our tax dollars and delivered a useless product in return.
Took two days just to be able to log in even though all my information was correct and now all I get is “something went wrong try again later” but later never comes I have a special needs child who takes the bus everyday and having to wait sometimes 30 minutes for the bus (because we live in NYC and traffic can be crazy) she has meltdowns and anxiety NYCSchoolBus is a great concept but it would be nice if it worked
Why create an app if you’re not going to utilize it. It worked for one day and never again. You can’t see where the bus is, if your child arrived school or if they even made it back on the bus home! So basically it’s just a waste of space on your phone.
I have NYCSchoolBus and was excited to use it but it hardly works and when it did work once or twice it wasn’t accurate. It would be beneficial if they could get it to work properly

Just keep getting error message. If it does log in my kids bus will spin around in circles or not move then all of a sudden float six miles and be a block away from the stop with no notice.
NYCSchoolBus doesn’t work. “Something went wrong” is all it can say. Very frustrating. If NYCSchoolBus is useless the NYCPS have to find a better way to put all the GPS buses to work for the parents.

I have no idea why the developers have not removed this and developed a functional app. For the past week it doesn’t load and displays a try again message. Why have schools advertise more useless tools.

NYCSchoolBus was good when it was working.. but it stopped working a few days ago..
I applaud and support the intention here. I use this in the morning to make sure the bus isn’t late and in the afternoon to make sure it isn’t arriving early. But the frustrations with NYCSchoolBus make it unusable at times.
1) I have to enter my password multiple times a day on the same device, which is very, very frustrating. NYCSchoolBus needs to take advantage of iOS authentication mechanisms that are much faster, such as Face ID.
2) Beyond that frustration, the performance can be unacceptably slow at times, with 10+ second waits to see the map after logging in, and sometimes multi-minute latency on the driver’s exact location, which undermines the degree to which I can trust NYCSchoolBus.
Parents are busy, and NYCSchoolBus is used during some of the most stressful times of the day. Please invest in it further so that it reduces our stress rather than adding to it. Thank you!
When you a ccidently login with the student’s account, it does not let you sign in with parent account. It bypass the login step even though you log out in NYCSchoolBus . It needs to have a login with another account option in NYCSchoolBus .
I would love to have this be a useable resource this school year; and, unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to work correctly. I will gladly edit my rating if this becomes an accurate, reliable resource. Thank you in advance!
When it is working properly it’s great. Otherwise like this morning , it just keeps buffering and you cannot get in. Has happened 3 times since NYCSchoolBus first launched. Why can’t the city and it’s IT staff get it together and work out these glitches? It’s called , testing, updating, quality assurance and caring about your job , the community and the whole purpose of creating NYCSchoolBus. The same thing happens with the NYC parking App. Never have any problems with any other App I have ever used. Always an issue with anything affiliated with a NYC App only.
Now that the bus Union signed, our driver has the device and NYCSchoolBus is working! As long as the driver picks up the device we are able to follow the bus and meet it. Should lower our stress.
