I was able to get a pathfinder 4 on sale for only $89 and have really loved the device. The radio is great and clear Bluetooth music comes across completely perfectly (not to mention the bottle opener). But SoundXP is the most under-developed utility app I’ve ever used. You must uninstall it every time you want to connect and reinstall it/go through setup. Even then you only get functionality about 1/3 of the time. I originally downloaded SoundXP to change the colors and possibly alter the mids since you can only change the hi and low from the speaker. But I couldn’t even get SoundXP to work without crashing or disconnecting. Don’t waste your time. If you have the pathfinder 4 just enjoy the bass and wireless charging, forget about SoundXP .

What an absolute waste of time and money. For starters, the Bluetooth works whenever it wants too. The instructions make perfect sense only when the device is working. Tech support is a joke. Fella on the phone from technical support said and I quote “Bluetooth is easy to use, so I’m not sure why your device won’t work”… no kidding Sherlock. He also said it was not a warranty issue. Just dumb. I tried three different phones, none of them even detected my ion pathfinder…

ION, your fired.

SoundXP shouldn’t be published. The complete lack of any type of security controls between SoundXP and the radio should be recognized. In a multi-tenant environment, anyone can control anyone else’s radio within Bluetooth range (ie: sitting by the pool on vacation). This was as simple as scanning for a radio, finding it, and connecting. No security whatsoever. At the very least, the radio should have a way to disable this feature.

Besides this, everyone else’s review is correct. It only works the first time. You have to remove the discovered radio each time between power cycles, since it won’t reconnect to any previously discovered radio. Nice gimmick but the performance and lack of security should prompt apple to pull it from the store.

I hook everything up for the speaker as well as downloading SoundXP my speaker kept cutting off after 20 minutes I turn it back on it did this like three times. Then I decided to uninstall SoundXP and boom the speaker did not turn off at all. It would have been nice if SoundXP work so you can have a way to control the sound. For spending $200 on a speaker it should have a remote. Speaker is good but SoundXP is trash.

Pretty garbage. Finally workingish though. Delete app, forget speaker Bluetooth on phone, turn off BT on speaker, turn off speaker. Install app. Turn on speaker. Turn on Bluetooth on speaker. Don’t connect to Bluetooth though. Open app. Tap add device (if you tap start here, it tells you to tap add device after because the UX is moronic). Just add the thing—if you change the name of your speaker it won’t work. Then hope it quickly flashes and lets you into the settings for the speaker. Now you can disable the awful voice announcements. Also, if you email Ion they’ll email you a week later saying “we should have replied, check your spam folder”. Of course your spam folder will be empty. lol Ion come on hire a competent PM, UX designer, and a full stack dev or few eh?

I wanted to enjoy my Ion Prime PA but since the day I got it out of the box it’s been a a struggle. Bluetooth disconnects, app will not sync. I’ll have the volume up to the top on my phone and with the ION…still not much sound. I try to use the Aux, doesn’t recognize. I bought this in August and want to return it as I’ve been so frustrated. SoundXP should work better and is clearly a mess

Downloaded SoundXP tested it and it wanted to know my location to proceed. SoundXP was deleted instantly and the speaker was returned the next day. This is a sound app and it does not need to know your location. You are forced to allow location otherwise SoundXP will not proceed to your speaker settings. Since it was forcing location info, I deleted SoundXP in 5 minutes and returned the speaker next day. I will never buy a ION product ever again. Thank you ION for such a horrible experience. I wonder what other info it tries to capture in the background.

Stick with Bose or JBL speakers.

SoundXP does a disservice to the great sounding speaker. I’m on my 3rd generation of the speakers. The add on of the qi charger had me holding in yo this version. I just eidh SoundXP wasn’t so hard to get to work. I’m connected to the speaker as SoundXP searches for it.

I am using a Brightmax and the color switch mode is broken! It won’t allow me to change the colors! The EQ settings also seem to vanish the moment I leave the menu.

Without these 2 functions the rest of the device can be controlled with the buttons!

So what is the point of SoundXP if it is unable to do that which the physical buttons cannot do?!

We need fix please!

SoundXP is honestly kind of girlboss. Like it actually kind of slays. I don’t know why people hate it so much, it just needs to develop a little more );

Costco recently sold a ton of Pathfinder 4 tailgate loudspeakers for $90; a very good deal. The Sound XP app controls the PathFinder’s audio settings. SoundXP works fine on my iPhone 8 though the interface is a little wonky and takes some getting used to. Once you figure it out, which won’t take long, you’ll appreciate being able to adjust high, low AND mid frequencies via your phone. (Note: you are NOT able to adjust the Mid freq’s on the speaker itself.) Plus, you are able to change FM stations from SoundXP as well. In other words, by using SoundXP , you can control nearly all of the speaker’s features except the bottle opener. Knowing the convenience SoundXP brings, I would not purchase any other ION speaker that did not have a compatible iPhone app with which to control it. Only 3 stars because the interface needs some refining.

I don’t know why there are bad reviews. It connected on the first try. This is a simple, intuitive app that does the basic needs of the Pathfinder 4. The only thing that I think it needs is a power on/off function in SoundXP . (If it there, I couldn’t find it) but everything else is very easy and responsive. Maybe some of the bad reviews are from people expecting a lot more than SoundXP should do? All-in-all, it is convenient to control many of the features from a distance, but since it has the built in charger, (and bottle opener) you are always right there with it anyway!
Sounds great and seems to be pretty sturdy!

I got a pathfinder 280 and it’s one of the best speaker like honestly, the speaker got a lot of bass and sound great, the only thing about SoundXP that I do not like is the light option, won’t let me change colors, maybe the speaker is just made like that but if not than I hope it gets fixed soon but other than that the speaker is just great, happy I bought it, it was worth it!

No issues, 1st try with SoundXP . Not a lot of features with SoundXP but allows more control of the device. Nice interface for the FM radio controls and favorite stations.

I’m not sure what all the negative reviews are about but I have the 280 and SoundXP works fine with it. Only asked permission to access my Bluetooth, never asked about my location like one review mentioned.

Have not really found anything about app that is useful, except for turning lights off.
Equalizer does no connect.
Radio does not connect.

Love the speaker, but SoundXP is trash. None of the functions, including basic volume control and light control work in SoundXP . Pathetic.

I’m sometimes able to turn off the speaker lights but as far as doing anything else, it doesn’t work.

Don’t buy this speaker, SoundXP is pointless. Doesn’t work properly for linking numerous speakers. Poor sound quality and poor app performance. 0/5

Not able to control the EQ is not even available since is shaded. Not user friendly. Radio stations are set up automatic, it doesn’t allow to select a specific station.

Bought 2 triumphs to link up together when we go to the beaches or pools but SoundXP does not link them together. 0/5 rating for SoundXP

App definitely needs work. It worked once for me and then after that it didn’t work anymore so idk. Definitely won’t be using SoundXP till I see an update.

Can't get past the first step. Does not locate/link to the speaker. It just keeps searching and searching and does not connect the speaker to SoundXP . Please fix. Why advertise such support/feature in the instruction sheet if it does not work. SoundXP shouldn't have been advised or released. Such crap.

SoundXP is absolutely horrendous and doesn’t work at all, I’ve had to download it and re-download it several times to no avail. Every time I open SoundXP to connect to my Pathfinder four it brings up a black box with no buttons and I have to restart SoundXP , it does this every single time.

If I am connected via Bluetooth, why can’t SoundXP work to change the volume? So simple. Yet, it only worked super slow the 1st time I tried and then it stopped working. Must be someone’s high school kid that created it for a class project. No way a professional corporate development team would create such a dysfunctional product. Here’s hoping for v2 that only does what v1 is supposed to do.

Two weeks. Nothing fails. Great sound, equalizer is great. Use app to control everything. Awesome. Just went and bought a second for my teen.

All features controlled seamlessly from iPhone instead of using teeny remote or looking at the back of the unit. I’m pleasantly surprised that it’s a great radio device also. Mic levels for the two inputs also can be controlled by SoundXP . Makes the value of the device even better!
