No Longer Worth Your Time, Stopped Competing at Price

Writing this during my last this app charge before deleting Bluedot . This is from the perspective of a personal user, which no longer seems to be Bluedots focus as all of their marketing has pivoted to fleet management. At one point this app gave you EV charging for a flat rate of .30/kwh, a great deal in exchange for having to put in set amounts of money, potentially more than you’d use in a charging session. Whatever was leftover, this app would use to invest or do whatever with. Now, this app’s flat fee is .50/kwh which matches or exceeds what you would pay with the First Party for at least 90% of DCFC chargers. And they still expect you to put in more money than you’ll use for one charge session. Clearly Bluedots original system was not making money, so now they’ve resorted to fleecing the end users. Just download Bluedot for whatever charger you’re using, pay for the exact amount of energy you put in your car, and leave greedy middlemen like this app out of the equation.

Sort of a rip off

Anything you save is probably negated by the way their rates work. Regularly charge at a station near me with low price per kw (.20c). When charging at a station like this with rates lower than their advertised rate you still get up charged to whatever this app’s rate is. My $9 charge now costs $20. Maybe you save money if you live in an area where electricity is expensive for usually for me it actually costs more to use Bluedot . Also, once money is deposited it cannot be transferred out of your account. Just beware of how Bluedot works and what rates are because they will not always save you money.

All good things must come to an end

What promised to be a comprehensive app to simplify, increase access to, and alleviate the stressful public charging experience has turned into another company who is likely bleeding cash and needs to turn a profit fast. Within the last few months this app has (1) nerfed their rewards structures (2) created more barriers to access perks with vague language of things changing “for the better” and (3) with no way to withdraw funds you deposit/none of these funds are insured and (4) increased their prices OVER 43 PERCENT giving customers less than a week’s notice. Wish them luck, but I wish they stared with a more moderate model rather than luring in people with a bunch of bait and switches. One or two changes is fine but essentially changing everything your users experience is lame and they know it.

Frustrating- points lost

A month ago users were notified that the this app debit card would go away in favor of the new this app Wallet. I didn’t have enough points to cash out at the time (needed a minim of 250 points, or $25). So I worked really hard make sure I added the card to a bunch of different accounts and apps so I could accrue enough points to cash out. Well, I got enough points (~335 or $35). However, I misunderstood and thought I had until July 15 to earn points and until Aug 15 to cash out. I didn’t. Just lost all my points. They will not provide a courtesy credit despite profiting off my data and all the fees they earned from my purchases.

Buggy lately

I’ve been loving Bluedot the last few months since I got my EV — between the low flat rate, points for using the card for purchases, and free charging days, what’s not to like; but something happened over the last 3 weeks where it has been terribly inconsistent and buggy. Today is one of their free charging days and conveniently, Bluedot “Could not start charging. Something went wrong.” The advice from the automated in-app support is essentially “keep trying”, which I did over a dozen times over almost 30 minutes. The charging network’s (EVgo) own app connected just fine without any issues though the cost was considerably higher. The inconvenience is approaching the point where the cost of time spent trying to get it to work outstrips the actual & potential monetary savings. It’s incredibly frustrating, especially if you find yourself at a busy charging hub and you’re the moron holding up the cadence trying to get an app to start charging.

They reneged on points and price

I use Bluedot a lot. For a long time they had a debit card and they encouraged me to put a chunk of money into it and to earn these points "cash-back" as OceanPoints. Well, I earned them too fast and they limited me to withdraw a certain amount per month. If I had stopped using the debit card cold turkey, it would've taken me at 4 months to withdraw all my "cash-back." Well, they canceled the program with only one month notice. And at the same time, they changed the price of the charging initiated through their app from the $.25/kwh they gave us early adopters back to the $.30/kwh the general public gets, and then raised it again to 43¢/kwh. Don't get me wrong, it's an okay price, and I'm still a customer, but the "cash back" program was not cash back, and if they do do some other kind of promotion, I will not trust it.

Unpredictable

They were okay when I first installed Bluedot few months ago. They were at $0.30/kw and would lower it to $.025/kw after 2 charges, well that didn’t happen for month and a half (but $0.30 was still good pricing) now, out of no where they raised their prices to $.043/kw, which is not very good. They claim that they’re trying to make Bluedot better for us, but I think the greed set in. You can still save $ with this but it’s little harder and more work. I’m currently at a station that is charging me $0.27/kw, why would I pay $0.43? For people charging frequently (I charge 2 times a day) that difference will add up quickly. Just look at the pricing at any station before using Bluedot .

You were outstanding then you significantly raised your prices.

Bluedot is especially helpful when you need a charge and the price is outrageous at a dealership that really doesn’t want your business or at a remote location where they know they are the only charger for 100 miles. It can be a little less expensive than chargers that actually want your business. The large recent increase was painful and has caused me to use this app less as I shop more carefully.

It could be better…

This is a great idea and the points make it fun however, the juice may not be worth the squeeze.

The points take forever to accumulate making it almost not worth it. Also, each drive is not worth the same amount of points either. For example, if you drive the same distances more than once in a day, your points are lower. I think if the developer made the points equivalent to the actual mileage, this would catch more traction. It has the potential to be a great tool for the environment but as of today, does not really hold value.

Cash Back Rates are Great but App is a little buggy

I use the this app app for all of my charging expenses and get 20% back and use it for grocery 5% and other purchases depending on the cash back rates.

You can set up a Apple Wallet this app Debit card and fund it directly with a separate debit card (immediate) or bank EFT transfer (several days). I had some technical issues with funding my card but they were resolved eventually.

Read the FAQ for details on how to get cash back and how to add funds.

Bluedot has some bugs like any app but the customer support team is very responsive and always makes sure I am taken care of!

Wonderful!

If you own any EV and do not use Blue Dot you’re throwing a lot of money away. Once you’re in the loop and understand the ins and outs you’ll be shocked how much cheaper it is. It’s convenient too. When I need support someone is with me in minutes and they actually help me. Not like when I contacted the charger directly. You get the same rates all day, every day, a free charge day and access to a ton of chargers for the same service. Best of all worlds! Get it, get the card, and save big!

Start using this for all your EV charging/purchasing needs today

I can’t say enough about the this app app. I am shocked that more people do not know about it. I find myself charging app EVgo, Electrify America, ChargePoint, you name it and people are paying like $.60-$.70 kilowatt.

You only paid $.30 a kilowatt through the this app app, and you can easily achieve boost member status and pay $.25 a kilowatt everywhere.

Do not hesitate to try Bluedot out, they offer all kinds of perks, once a month free charging days, excellent customer service. You will not be disappointed.👌💯🙏

Saves me more money than any app ever

Between the 30 cent charging and Free driving, Bluedot has saved me over $1500 over a months worth of driving. I drive over 4000 miles a month with my job and this app is great for always giving the same cheap rate and redeeming oxygen points for driving. I hope that Bluedot stays with the same price they do now bc once everyone finds out about Bluedot, it will be the standard in charging.

Changed, but still the best deal in town

They used to have a lot more rewards like cash back points and even reduced rates for frequent chargers, but at $0.30/kwh on DCFC and $0.03/min on level 2 charging, it still ends up being the cheapest public charging around. If you do a lot of public charging, they have free charging days if you do 5 charges through their app in the before the free charging day in the same month.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bluedot Makes Driving So Much Easier!

this app has been a huge help for me as a driver! It makes my workday so much more organized—I can see my routes clearly, avoid traffic with the navigation features, and track all my stops easily. Bluedot is super user-friendly, which is great when you’re on the go, and it even helps me find the best spots for fuel so I can save time and money.
this app really takes the stress out of my day and lets me focus on driving. I’d definitely recommend it to any driver looking for a reliable, efficient tool. Five stars!

I do not understand peoples complaints?

Yes they have 3 annoying rules you must abide by to be able to cash out, but who cares ? I suppose the people who download Bluedot are doing so because they charge their Tesla frequently, I do not charge a crazy amount but still find blue dot useful as charging regularly (like most Tesla owners with a job) allows me to hit the 3 rules they have in order to cash out. I cash in my $25 everytime I get it (which I do frequently) and use it for charging. Look, if you charge your car regularly you will benefit from Bluedot, their rewards are a lot better than any company I have come across.

Great EV rewards app

Enjoying using this easy app! Just earn points to get perks like gift cards just for driving. Their support is awesome! Had an issue with not getting some pointing identifying new charging stations and their response was quick and issue was resolved within 24 hrs. Would definitely recommend Bluedot drive a lot so you can earn rewards points and redeem gift cards!

Their customer service is good

Blue dot has one day a month when charging is free. You pay and they credit you back which works for me. Their price is good when you buy thru the blu dot app. Recently on free day I was having trouble with the charge point charger I was using and their customer service stayed with me until it worked and on top of it all it was free day! Thank you!

Simplistic and easy to use

Best of all is budget friendly… I’ve been EV charging for a few months now and this has been a savior for me in dollars and in mind. We were all EV charging should be user-friendly but it hasn’t been been countless hours in the sun and paying too much. this app has really really lighten the load. I feel it’s a positive app that can do wonders for everybody.

Best 3rd party app for EV drivers

If you’re using DC fast charging for your EV, in town or on a roadtrip, you need to sign up for this app. The biggest benefit is discounts for all EV charging (10% off). If you charge in network (ChargePoint and EVgo), you qualify for fixed per kWh charge rate for bigger discounts. You also get additional cash back via oxygen points from driving and other incentives. Don’t wait, get your account today.
