Great App for going incognito at OTF

Anyone who loves OTF workouts but doesn’t need (or want) to see their name on the monitors or the linked to the screen above their treadmill should get OrangeZones. The display is easy to read with the critical information in large numbers. Coupled with the OTF color zones, you can understand your status with a quick glance. The end of the workout summary is fantastic - showing but time spent in the zones and a visual breakdown of of the workout by color.

It would be nice if future version would be able to have some customization of the display screen, even with a simple swap between actual heart rate and the zone %, but that isn’t a show stopper. Also, would be good if it could do more of the settings/set-up via iPhone versus only on the watch or at least have a walk through prompt set up, especially with the haptics (on/off).

LOVE

I love OrangeZones!! I use it at my OTF studio. I don’t have one of their heart rate monitors because I found this. I love that I can just see it right on my watch. It syncs up with your activity on your watch as well- for my classes it puts it in as a HIIT workout which I love that it syncs. I had OrangeZones on in my first OTF class when they let you use one of their heart rate monitors for free - and it was very accurate to what I got through them as well. You just need to calculate your max heart rate and put it in which is so easy. This seems to have been updated because OrangeZones on your phone does now save the workouts which is good to look back on. Can’t go wrong with OrangeZones! Especially if you don’t want to buy a heart rate monitor from OTF for $129 and want the same experience with the points system.

Updated review - amazing customer service & app!

After posting the initial review below, I received an email from customer support within 24 hours. I then continued to receive responses to follow-up emails within an hour or less with helpful information until my issue was resolved and app is working correctly. LOVE OrangeZones, can’t workout without it. Can’t believe that with this kind of customer service, OrangeZones is free! I would pay for OrangeZones.

I have tried using OrangeZones while wearing the watch on my wrist (series 3) and also around my bicep using an arm band. On both occasions I couldn’t get a heart rate reading - the screen just stayed stuck at 48%, even though the time kept ticking. Help!

Hoping developer sees and answers!

I really want OrangeZones to work. Tried out a class at OTF and loved the concept. However, didn’t love the idea of spending $129 on the heart monitor plus the workouts can easily be done in a home gym on my own... As soon as I left class I sat in my car and found OrangeZones. I downloaded onto my phone and went through the steps to download the Apple Watch app but it’s not showing up. After it tries to link, it tells me it can’t find it and to do it manually through the watch app but OrangeZones doesn’t show up there either. I am only able to use it on my phone after I’ve finished a workout. How do I fix it? I would like to use it while I’m working out so I can see how I switch between the zones. HELP !

Perfect for OTF

For a free app, this is great. Works well as a companion with OrangeTheory Fitness classes (obviously doesn’t link to the studio screen). App is exclusively for Apple Watch (no iPhone app). Post-Workout data is emailed and not saved in OrangeZones for later review. Only way to review data is via the email. Recommend saving this email or creating an Excel table to input data so that you can go back and look at trends. Saves as HITT workout into Apple’s Health App (time, calories, and heart rate). If OrangeZones creator made an iPhone App that stored all my data for quicker reference and comparison (including Weekly, Monthly, Yearly points, graphs, and support for a “social”-style platform), then I would pay for that (assuming reasonably priced).

Version 1.3.1 does’t work

I have Apple Watch series 2. After upgrading app version to 1.3.1, OrangeZones doesn’t work well. I noticed that while working out, the HR captured has a delay. I could be running at a really high speed and I can feel my HR going really high, but OrangeZones on watch shows I’m in the green zone. After I start walking when my HR goes really low, OrangeZones on watch shows that I’m in the red zone. I also noticed that the latest update says I can see workouts in OrangeZones on my iPhone under History. When I go to history, it doesn’t show my workout. The other issue is calories burned is not accurate after the update. At the end of a 60 minute workout it showed that I burned 1000+ calories compared to the exact same workout 2 days ago that showed about 550 calories. After the update calories burned seems to have doubled. Before the update OrangeZones captured HR and calories burned accurately.

Absolutely Mind-Blowingly Incredible

I downloaded OrangeZones about 3 weeks ago and loved it from the moment I first started using it. Today, I worked out with the new version and I am completely blown away with the new features and enhancements.
I share OrangeZones with EVERYONE I see working out in-studio that has an Apple Watch and they all love it as much as I do. This has me seriously reconsidering getting the Link when it comes out. Why pay another $130 for something OrangeZones already does for me?
Consider adding a way to donate... I’ll gladly donate to you to help support developers like yourself bringing meaningful and life-changing applications to OrangeZones Store. Brilliant.

Not bad, not great.

Updated review as it seems the developer did not read my initial comments.

Connected my Apple watch to my OT Beat via bluetooth to see how OrangeZones compares to my OTF report. Made sure to put the same maximum heart rate and profile details. Results were similar, but not as exact as I expected. Having my heart rate coming from the same monitor while using the same zones, I expected closer results. This is while using the OT Beat heart sensor as the source for both my Apple Watch and the OT.

Also once Apple allows the "Always on Display" to be used by third parties OrangeZones will be even more useful. I may be in the minority who already have an OT Beat, though I wanted to see my stats while in the floor. For those who don't have access to any of the OTF heart rate monitors, this isn't a bad option.

Great app with great support!

You never know with free apps if something goes wrong if you will ever hear back. Not only is this a great tracker if you love the way Orangetheory tracks HR but they have great support. I had an issue, emailed support last night and it was resolved in less than 12 hours!! I have recommended this to several clients and I love how they added a way for me to go for a run, see the same information plus more about my run (splits, distance, etc). I can use it for more than just my HIIT workouts now. That’s a great win!

The best for OTF and Apple Watch lovers

OrangeZones has been a game changer because I can use it on my Apple watch when I go to OrangeTheory and quickly see my heart rate zone and get a great summary after. The OTF band is glitchy and often keeps me in the grey zone. I was also having to look up at the screens all the time to see my zone. On OrangeZones my effort and zone color always match because I am bypassing the glitchy OTF band and when I change zones the watch vibrates so I don’t have to look at the screen all the time. Love it!!

Not perfect, but darn close

I’ve been using the Orange Zones app in tandem with my OTBeat Burn, and OrangeZones actually works more consistently than the expensive piece of equipment OTF pushes on members. While it occasionally has trouble connecting, I can usually get it to work by restarting OrangeZones and giving it a minute or two to pick up my pulse. Support from the developer has been incredibly responsive as well. On days like today when our studio wifi was sketchy, it’s so helpful to have the Orange Zones app vibrating on my wrist to let me know when I move into a different zone.

Figured it out

I originally gave a one star review because I couldn’t find OrangeZones at all or figure out how to get OrangeZones on my Apple Watch after purchasing. I’m changing it to 5-stars because the creators contacted me to let me know I had to download it via OrangeZones Store on the watch itself. And now it works!

I can’t speak for how accurate it is because I never wore a HR monitor to OTF before but it is able to tell me what zone I’m in during class and sends an email with the breakdown after every class. That’s what OrangeZones is supposed to do after all.

Extra purchases. . . Really?!

OrangeZones itself works fine for tracking OTF classes but in order to save or compare any data you have to upgrade to a paid subscription. Like don’t we pay $90 a month? There’s no way they can have an algorithm throw it into a graph for you?! Come on.
Also, it’s super annoying that in order to be up on the screen (which is how you track on the other app and can see totals etc) you have to buy a $129 signal transmitter for your Apple Watch.
This just seems very “nickel and dime” for a higher end place like OTF.

Put features behind paywall

I’ve been using orange zones for two years and OrangeZones mostly works well but seems to have a new glitch every update. I’m super disappointed they took away the heart rate graph and your workout history and put them behind a paywall with the latest update. Charging for basic features and calling it a premium plan, instead of actually adding features for the premium is a cheaper money grab that leaves a sour taste. I’ll be looking elsewhere to record my heart rate data now, I can’t recommend paying for what are basic features on an app with constant bugs.

Great app for OTFers!

Very happy to have found OrangeZones - thank you! Friendly, helpful customer service, too. The only issue I have, which I hope can be remedied, is I am not receiving the post workout summary emails. I’m not sure why - I did not see them in my junk mail folders. I’m optimistic that will be straightened out. This is the “best fitting” OTF app I have tried so far. Love that we can customize max heart rate and also love seeing the colors on my watch during the workout. Thank you!

Perfect for otf classes!

OrangeZones is amazing in Orange theory classes! Once I dialed in my max hr it was very close to the same zones my orange theory monitor was giving me. I think it’s also more real-time too. The best thing is that I can see my zone on my wrist at any time really easily, without having to look for my name on the board, or wait till I’m on the treadmill.

Also, I keep forgetting my oft monitor and I hate paying to rent one. Since I get an email from OrangeZones, I still get a record of my workout!

Pretty good but took away a bunch of free features

I use OrangeZones as alternative heart rate zone track at orange theory so I don’t have to pay for their $150 HRM. It works pretty well for that but a bunch of features that used to be free they just took away like being able to see your history and seeing your HR over the course of the exercise etc. It’s one thing if you want to do that for new users but doing it for people that have been using OrangeZones for over a year is pretty sneaky if you ask me. Going to start looking for alternatives unless this gets turned around.

Awesome app

OrangeZones is awesome I’m able to track which zones I’m in during my workout. The new goals feature is cool because you can see your workout history, have the ability to set how many times per week you workout, and how many “points” you want to earn each week.

A neat feature would be to also include a goal for how many calories you want to burn per week.

UPDATE: I would also like the ability to pause a workout.

Amazing App & Customer Service

I love OrangeZones as it keeps me honest and working hard during all my workouts. I emailed about an app issue and it was quickly resolved the same day. I love that it’s conveniently located on my iphone and iwatch. Honestly, I wouldn’t know what level of fitness I would be in without OrangeZones. Makes me want to workout harder everytime. Keep up the great work!!!

Best OTF alternative

I use to go to OTF but since it got too expensive I had to find an alternative way to exercise. I started running and found OrangeZones to be just like the OTF board. I love it because when I run I know exactly where I am. The only improvement in the future I would integrate is to motivate people is being able to use your points you earn for something. Like maybe a gift card or something.

Favorite Workout App Ever

FINALLY THIS EXISTS!! I have been searching for an app like this that is just so simple and easy to use but still gives me all the most important metrics for my workout. I usually run OrangeZones during group fitness classes (OTF, SoulCycle, Barry’s, Pilates, etc.) and it works great but I also love to use it when I workout on my own at the gym so I can really challenge myself to still hit the orange and red zones and earn the same amount of points I would in a group class. When I forgot my watch this morning on my way to my hiit workout I was so bummed- I seriously will not workout my Orange Zones again. Thank you thank you thank you for creating OrangeZones!!!!

Revised Original 5 Star Review to 3 Stars

New review after using: OrangeZones drops workouts from watch and phone. Two weeks worth of workouts just disappeared for no reason. Very disappointed because I loved OrangeZones.

Original Review: If you’re like me and motivation to push yourself OrangeZones is the answer! I just started biking at home due to covid19 and couldn’t really tell how hard to push, but once I started using OrangeZones I was able to see my output instantly, which made me push harder! Totally worth it!
