Great app!

This is my first review ever (from what I can remember) I’m very excited to use Highlighted! Decided to look for an app that would make it easier to save quotes from the books I read rather than taking a picture and using the markup feature to circle the quote and save it into individual albums in my camera roll. Highlighted makes it way faster to save these highlights! I’ve tried other apps, and there are some comparable ones, but the process in Highlighted is the smoothest and most efficient of them all.

A few suggestions:

-A feature where I can go through my camera roll to add in all my previous highlights would be great.

-The ability to randomly scroll through all my highlights would be cool. I rarely go back to look up the pictures of the highlights in my camera roll unless I’m looking for something specific, so I feel like I’m missing out on a lot of gems I’ve this app. A randomized feature would be an awesome way to look back at highlights I might have never otherwise revisited.

-Lastly, many of the books I read have diagrams or images they reference to. It would be awesome to be able to attach some of these images to these highlights (just like you can add tags and notes).

With these features it would really take Highlighted to the next level. Thank you so much.

The best reading companion

I have been using Highlighted for over a year, and I would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone who also reads a lot. Like any conscientious reader, I inevitably find wisdom I want to hold onto. Highlighted offers the perfect way to save those short selections without forgetting where they came from, and without forgetting where I might have written them down. I can also add a note to remind myself of the context or elaborate on the idea. Since the note is optional, I often leave the this app portions to speak for themselves.

Reading for research, I find this incredibly useful as well. I can grab quotes and details from whatever I am reading that I may want to include in research reports later. I can note what project I intend to use it for, and search the notes later if I need to pull up something specific.

I have put the widget on my main screen. I enjoy being reminded of some of my favorite bits from the books I have read in the past. I never know which quote is going to show up, but since it is choosing from a selection of things I already know I enjoy, it’s always a good surprise.

I’m really glad I downloaded Highlighted. It quickly become a favorite and is both useful and fun to have. Plus it isn’t complicated to use. The combination makes it perfect!

Exactly what I needed!

For ages I’ve wanted an app that would allow me to easily capture highlights and take notes from physical books I read. Evernote and Readwise both had features I liked, but came with other annoyances or were costly because they had a bunch of other features I didn’t care about. I stumbled upon Highlighted and it’s perfect for me! It is so easy to use, and captures all the information I want (easy lookup of book metadata, captures page numbers). It’s dead simple to get your highlights and notes out (*side eyes kindle*) and in a number of formats! If you love reading and want to remember what you’ve read, this is Highlighted for you!

Love this! Sends my physical highlighting into the future!

I absolutely love this. I always highlight my books and have been looking for a great way to create a centralized “Digital Commonplace Book”

My ask for the developers/product team for Highlighted would be for a feature where per book you could add a vocabulary section where you can add new or interesting words found in the book, it looks up the definition automatically once word is typed in or recognized through camera capture and you can add comments &page number like you can do for this app sections .

A different vocabulary specific tab maybe would be good too?

Fantastic App!

After a long break I am headed back to school to complete my doctorate. I remember during grad school having to wear out highlighter after highlighter and was not looking forward to it. This time around I decided to see if someone had solved that problem with a reliable app (key word being reliable). I have to say, so far Highlighted has nailed it! The scan function is very accurate and has captured every word correctly so far. The only thing that I have had to do is manually update the page numbers but I’m ok with that. Great job here folks. Highlighted will be a huge help and I look forward to seeing what future updates will bring.

Needs better text ordering for iOS15

Really love using Highlighted and have been an avid user for more than a year. However, more recently (I suspect with iOS15 update) the quality of text ordering for the extracted text decreased dramatically, which made Highlighted ’s core functionality totally unusable. Often, as I drag the cursor to highlight, it hops around the page image randomly. Right now I resort to a hacky workflow where I first use camera app text recognition (which works REALLY well for text ordering), and then manually copy and paste the highlights into Highlighted . I would really appreciate a fix for that. Thanks!

So Useful!

I read a lot of books on various reading apps and it’s annoying to have them all spread out or have an app that doesn’t allow you to save highlights. I hate being locked in with Kindle’s highlights (what a pain to export them) and it’s a pain having to heavily edit some excel sheet to keep your highlights. this app makes it a breeze to keep your highlights no matter what you are reading on. I’m already a huge fan of Highlighted and use it everyday. It’s already very slick and haven’t had any issues. Thank you so much for this!

Concept Is Great, Functionality Needs More Work

This is a very good idea for an app. I always find myself wanting to catalog quotes in a neat and organized fashion. This gives me that ability, and I would hate to read without Highlighted. However, I find that the scan-to-text is pretty inaccurate. It jumbled words and puts sentences out of order. I end up using tex- to-speech, but that’s not very convenient. Also, sometimes I open Highlighted and it acts like I just downloaded it. It wants me to set it up again? When this happens, I exit, clear the tab, and go back in. This solves the problem. Please work on the technology behind this, and you’ll have a 5 star app in no time!

A Diamond 💎

This is by far the most intuitive ocr highlighting app out there. I do not want to stop reading physical books, but I also want to be able to categorize and save the information that I'm learning. Highlighted is simple, easy to use, and just gets it. My only teeny tiny ask (this is, like, a 4.9 star review), is to hopefully have an integration with notion so I can easily export all the things to my second brain 🧠. In the meantime I'll export the csv and be glad I get to use Highlighted instead of one of the other ones 😉

This is actually really good!

I don’t normally write reviews, but so far I’ve been enjoying Highlighted! It’s not too complicated for me to use and it’s been super helpful. I would’ve given maybe a 4.5 rating, because sometimes Highlighted doesn’t recognize some parts of the text, but it’s fine with me. I do a lot of reading so this has been my favorite app so far! I used to take pictures of quotes (that didn’t help with my storage) and send them to friends, now I can store them all on Highlighted. Love it!!

Most Considerate & Best of Form

By far, out of all the handy hidden gems of Highlighted star. Highlighted by far is the greatest in terms of usefulness to profitability. Highlighted creator has quite gentlemanly opted out on badgering the consumer for a constant review and intrusive unwanted ads. And for that I highly commend his app, excellent work chap.

I love the fact that you can scan virtually any ISBN and the cover art will be provided and if not—you’ve the option to take a picture of it. If you’re a bibliophile such as I, this is the must have app.

Incredible!!

Highlighted is absolutely amazing! I’ve tried all sorts of strategies to manually enter highlights and corresponding notes from my physical library to no avail. I like the convenience of digital books, but there’s something special about highlighting a physical page.

Highlighted bridges my physical library and my digital notes giving me everything I need to extract my thoughts and ideas from all my yellowed books accumulated over the years.

Thank you so much to the developer!!

Ig Cute? 🥺❤️

Highlighted is really useful even though it don’t use it too much. I found Highlighted maybe a year ago and it wasn’t the best looking then, but it looks like an official apple app now which is nice, but it never really mattered. Honestly the only reason I’m writing this is because I didn’t realize the community with it was so small and it warmed my heart... maybe I just need friends or something cuz that sounds like I got some problems,,,,,,, ok well love Highlighted and keep up the good work. ❤️❤️❤️

Just what I needed

I'm really thankful for the creator of Highlighted for making Highlighted available for general public. I've been looking for a solution to store book highlights for futute accesses. In the past, I've relied on taking photos, and storing them to the notes app on iOS, but it's a clumsy solution. this app solves that problem so effectively. I especially love that it also allows you to store metadata like page number, tags, etc along with your highlights. Super useful app!

Works as advertised

I like to quote others in conversation so, naturally, I also like to remember where the quotes came from. Highlighted is perfect for the storage of said quotes. It allows me to copy quotes from text with minimal errors, and even attempts to log the page number for me (though this might be the least accurate of what Highlighted has to offer). The problems are so minute that I can’t see them justifying the removal of a star. It does exactly what it claims to do.

Useful and clever app

this app is a handy app that lets you keep track and annotate passages you have read. No more trying to find a pen or tarnish the pristine condition of your physical books! And more importantly, no need to flip through pages trying to remember where your notes went.

It’s fast, simple, and fun - and has a great wow factor when you point your camera at the page and the words magically appear on screen! 👍

I can’t believe this is free!

Highlighted is amazing. It does a great job with converting highlights from physical books. You can even add page numbers from a particular book. I also use it to take random
highlights from magazines, newspapers, any printed material. It works well for other languages as well (i only tried it with alphabet based writing, so not sure if it would work with arabic or chinese for example)

You can export or share your highlights. You can even change the color of your exported quotes id you, for example, want to share a quote on your social media.

This is such a game changer. I usually read on kindle because i can save and work with my highlights. Now I can do the same with paper books. Library, here I come again!

Works extremely well

I was skeptical about using an app on my phone to capture “highlights” from a physical book, thinking that it would break me out of the flow of reading. I find Highlighted to be fast, smooth and efficient — it’s capable of handling some non-trivial cases, like appending to the same highlight — but it does so without getting in your way. And Highlighted looks very nice, too!

By

impressed, and only just got it

the ability to add books by searches, and add old text notes from other places they’re stored now really helps work this into the process of creating a linked database of existing knowledge without starting all over!! the icing on the cake promises to be export to Markdown, as that might more easily allow this resource to be merged into a larger truly linked collection something like ObsidianMD, Dendron, ZimWiki, etc.
can’t wait to explore further…

By

Ok but not perfect

I like it but it has trouble capturing when the paragraph has too many characters. For example, when the capture is taken, there will be misspellings and weird characters that appear in the paragraph if it’s a large paragraph. So I have to break it up and capture little bits at a time. Also, the page numbers aren’t always correct so I have to change them. So I think Highlighted is great and I’m glad it exists but it could use some fine tuning. I also wish there was a way to export your notes onto a computer.

Fantastic!!!

this app is a wholly useful and elegantly designed reading companion.

It raises the bar by making it super easy to highlight and save quotes from physical books (and even eBooks with latest update if you are using an iPad).

The 4 best features:

1. Accurate text recognition
2. Accurate global search of all entries.
3. Clean and beautiful design.
4. Scan or Search to add a Book Cover.

Room for improvement:

1. A few light and dark themes to be able to customize the environment.
2. Some kind of in-app payment for Themes or another option to help support development.
3. Share Sheet export of highlights from iPhone instead of just Copy.

this app is Highlighted I never thought anyone would make, specifically, for reading books, but it is here. And its a gem.

By

Where has this been?!

Seriously, where has this been hiding?? It’s exactly what you’re looking for if you highlight books and like to keep the notes together in one place.

MY ONLY SUGGESTION: If there was a way to export the notes so you can keep them in a document, that would be wonderful since I can’t get them off my phone.

My favorite app EVER

Literally AMAZING. I have always manually this app my “self help” and non fiction books for key take aways...so when I discovered Highlighted, I was so excited. It keeps all my books in one, easily accessible place. I love how I can keep my favorite quotes/advice from books now on my phone using Highlighted. I can actually remember what I read now.
THANK YOU FOR CREATING THIS.

Accurate and easy to use!

I really love Highlighted because it’s the most important tool I could use when reading a book! It picks up the words with incredible accuracy and it’s so easy to just add pretty much any book you’re reading. It’s all amazingly designed! 10/10 app for sure. Does it’s job perfectly.

By

So straightforward !

The best app I’ve found to keep track of all the books I’ve read. It’s super easy to use and the highlight feature is just an added bonus for me. I never write reviews but I searched for an app like this forever. Definitely would recommend 😊

By

One of the best apps out there

This is definitely the best app out there for taking notes and keeping track of information you find meaningful in your books. The creator is also super responsive to ideas and criticisms and is very friendly.

By

All your highlights at your fingertips!

Fantastic app! Does exactly what it says it does and does it well. The title lookup feature was unexpected and worked really well (even on a somewhat obscure title).

If you like to read and like to highlight what you read get Highlighted!

By

Oh my stars!

Where has Highlighted been all of my life?!? Amazing and useful!

This should be a paid app. I want to make sure it is around for a long time. The fact that it is free is great and all but it makes me... Uncomfortable. I’d be absolutely pay for this.

By

Love the app

Great app to quickly highlight information that stood out to you. Would love a social feature to share my collection of highlights with friends and to follow friends along their reading journey.

By

Amazing but Crashy

Highlighted continuously crashes when I try to highlight. When this is ironed out, it will be a 5-star app for sure.

The conversion to text is uncanny and the ability to add notes, tags, and share in simple text is really great. All readers should have Highlighted! How can I pay you for this?

By

Beautiful design and works great!

I use Highlighted to capture notes from books that I read. The text recognition works very well and it’s incredibly easy to use.

Excellent tool for physical books (for now)

Easily capture and OCR the most important portions of the books you read.
