Easy to use but many features missing, please update this app!

I love DJI products. Hands downs the best for your money you’ll get. Especially with the Mavic air 2. Love the drone, have no problems with it, and I love DJIFly , very easy to navigate but there’s a ton of features missing that would make things so much easier to use. The gimbal speed and smoothness needs to be updated. It’s pretty hard to get a smooth shot when rotating that wheel and there’s no way to change that. Add a few more shortcuts on the front screen and make use of the FN button as a triple click for all 3 options! Also the sounds on the remote are very loud and obnoxious at times, if there’s a way to lower the volume for that, it would help a ton. Adding 4K to every option would be amazing too! Lastly I would highly suggest using more of the features from the previous app integrated onto this new app! DJI, if you’re reading this, I love you and love your products but please adjust your app to make flying a much pleasant one. I, and a few others will re-rate your app to 5 stars if these fixes are done! Anyways happy flying everyone! :)

Great App/ Emergency Stop

Since getting my DJI Mavic Air 2, I’ve been very happy with it as well as DJIFly . Everything is easy to get to, find, and change according to your conditions as well as preference.
My main reason for writing this review however, is to see if it is possible for the developers to add a Emergency Stop button near the Take Off button inside the DJI app. I say this to say that, a week ago I had an incident with my drone in which it crashed. The problem I had was, in the crash it ended up on its back with the blades still going.. causing more damage to the drone itself, as well as the propellers. I wasn’t able to grab it with my hands, and was in to much of a panic looking through DJIFly to figure out how to QUICKLY stop it.
Thus, the thought came to mention, and hope that DJI would here me out in developing an app update and drone software update to support this, as I know I am not the only one that has had this problem. Or, if that situation occurs, being able to stop it before further damage can be done.

Great beginner app

This is a wonderful app for beginner drone operators. I just got my first drone and found DJIFly straightforward and easy to fly my Mavic Mini. DJIFly has everything that a novice operator would need to fly their drone without feeling overwhelmed with the telemetry data. The quick shots feature is especially helpful with getting very cinematic looking footage of the subject with just a couple taps in DJIFly . I am (mostly) happy with what DJI has done with DJIFly. There are however shortcomings. First, the quickshots are very limited in scope. Few other quick shots would have been nice. Also there is no subject tracking feature so the subject has to be stationary for the drone to capture them in quick shots. Thirdly, the RTH height is buried in the menus. Would be nice if I could set the RTH height prior to each flight depending on the surroundings I am flying in. I honestly think DJI should implement an advanced mode in DJIFly that operator could switch to as they become more experienced. Hopefully they will continue to improve the functionality of DJIFly.

Needs minor improvements and polish

I’m a new Mavic mini owner. I find the flying interface of DJIFly to be pretty good. It is showing a lot of information, and fits a lot functions into a small screen.

However there are 2 very minor areas where DJI could improve.

First the Geo Flysafe map isn’t well designed. I don’t expect it to be as informative as apps like AirMap/Kittyhawk, but it should at least display the enhanced warning areas by default. Also it doesn’t appear to function correctly, because it will say I’m in a enhanced warning zone on the home screen, but clicking on it shows I’m on the outer edge of *only* a warning zone for a small local hospital’s “helipad” aka overflow parking. Plus before I begin flying it doesn’t warn me about being in a warning zone. And the helipad warning zone should be drawn in a circle, but in this case it is a drawn a runway. So there are definitely some inconsistencies here and I question whether or not the Mapbox interface we see in DJIFly is used to determine and/or matches their data that actually determines areas safe to fly.

Second, I’m a bit perplexed at how poor the DJI account/profile and login interface is. It is disjointed from the rest of DJIFly , and just seems like it was poorly implemented (even on their website too). This isn’t that big of a deal, but the whole account profile interface in DJIFly and on DJI’s website isn’t good.

Bad user interface

I have Mavic air 2 and couldn’t figure out how to change the resolutions on QuickShots. Apparently each fly modes have their own separate settings. I was having my drone on ground and went to setting. Didn’t see resolutions settings for QuickShots. It REQUIRES you to fly in the air in order to change camera setting. That’s stupid. Also even tho your drone in the air but if you were on photo mode, you can’t change the resolutions of QuickShots because you are not on QuickShots mode! So you are forced to change the mode to QuickShots before changing the camera setting. It is not like options are grayed out so you know you can’t change the setting under certain fly modes. The options are not even visible so you wouldn’t know how you change the setting. This is absolutely stupid. So basically each time you change your fly mode you have to adjust your camera setting.

Great app. Mavic Mini needs ActiveTrack support.

Let me start by saying that DJIFly has been excellent to work with so far in my experience, especially now that support for manual exposure and white balance controls have been added for the Mavic Mini. (Those features should have been there from the start, but that’s another story.)

With that being said, it baffles me that the Mavic Mini cannot use ActiveTrack. DJI has proven that the Mavic Mini is more than capable of tracking a target, as evident in the QuickShot modes. However, they refuse to just add support for ActiveTrack, supposedly since the lack of obstacle avoidance (OA) on the Mavic Mini is too much of a risk. If that’s the case, put a very clear and explicit warning about this risk on the screen whenever a user tries to use it. It’s really as simple as that; the user now can use this excellent feature on their Mavic Mini, and they are well aware of the risk they are taking by using it without OA.

If the lack of OA is truthfully the only reason why DJI won’t support ActiveTrack on the Mavic Mini (and not because they are shafting users of features to give more inventive to buy the Mavic Air 2), I see no reason why this cannot be done. At the VERY least, give developers (like me) the ability to implement it themselves when the Mavic Mini SDK eventually comes out.

TL;DR see title of review

Great concept and features marred by bugs

Great app - but buggy on iOS. 1. App periodically crashes especially during file transfer mode 2. Irregular order to downloads of files. They show up on my phone photos app all over the place, not chronological. 3. Only the original photos have location tags - the enhanced versions don’t. 4. Most frustratingly, DJIFly creates multiple copies of the same ‘quality enhanced’ photos on my phone at seemingly random times/order/numbers. Ie the first few photos I take on a flight will have one enhanced version created, the the next several will have UP TO FIVE OR SIX REDUNDANT QUALITY ENHANCED PHOTOS OF THE SAME IMAGE created on my phone - often interspersed between other photos - which makes deduplication extremely frustrating. I ended up with more duplicate photos of the same picture than original photos themselves. Please fix this is is extremely frustrating and wastes space. Otherwise great app.

Disappointed

I have the Mavic mini and I absolutely love it, I’ve taken amazing photos and videos, but after an hour long session, before I could download them onto my phone, DJIFly crashed, and I lost all of the hours previous work, usually I would just replace battery, but both of them were on super low juice, keep in mind I was on wifi as well as using an IPhone XR so it wasn’t the phone. I’m super upset because I put in all that work.

The customer service at DJI is also super upsetting, I had to wait an additional month on getting my drone because at first they lost it, then they “forgot to ship it” which makes no sense at all. I had to wait numerous hours just to talk to someone who couldn’t answer a simple question “where is my package”

I’m not one to complain, and always try to find the good, but the over all experience with DJI and DJIFly were incredibly upsetting. The drones are amazing but other than that, not so great.

Good but lacks some features.

The major issue is the lack of Auto ISO function when shooting in Manual “Pro” mode, like the DJI Mimo app already has.
With drones, it is very difficult to control the Aircraft while at the same time controlling the camera exposure settings,
so an AutoISO with much finer (gradual steps) would assist to make it much easier to shoot Video while maintaining a specific shutter speed.

The Quickshots function could be better by having an option hidden for advanced users, to let them manually start and stop the video recording independently.
Add a Quickshot mode in which the drone simply goes up and do a 360 slow smooth panning, user controls camera tilt.

Let advanced users store custom camera and aircraft settings in the Cine, Normal and Sport switch. Just like camera memory recall settings. This only exist partially.

Would be great to have slower video frame rates, like 15, 12, 10, 6, 2 fps. There is a big gap between regular video and time lapse.

There is no option to shoot Raw images only and this format could optionally use a lousy DNG compression.

Amazing drone, great app with one major annoyance

I love my Mavic Mini! It’s a great starter drone. DJI has done a great job with DJIFly, as it’s pretty intuitive and responsive. However, there’s one major annoyance: you CANNOT silence the low battery alarm. Instead, it just blares over and over again at you - starting from 20% - until you land the drone. I understand DJI did this for safety reasons but they absolutely MUST provide an option to acknowledge and then silence the alarm. The noise is so obnoxious that, for me, it basically renders 1/5 of the battery runtime useless, as I now try to land before I hear that awful alarm. I’ve read about people considering cutting the speaker wire to stop the alarm. DJI: you have an amazing product but you really need to listen to your users and provide the ability to silence the alarm! How about an option to hit OK when it first alerts on low battery?

Editing should be betters

So I am writing this because the application is VERY useful with simple transitions, but the problem is after you sit here for hours editing a magnificent video it has some malfunctioning dilemmas. It is consistently doing this. After export, your music will play but certain parts of the video will pause, or transition does not work, or better yet it exits DJIFly without me wanting to and I lose all
The work.
I have been a solid dji fan and supporter for years. In fact, I seek to get a sponsorship. My fiancé and I are traveling the world during Covid with my mavic mini and mavic pro.
But editing on DJIFly needs to be fixed, if dji fix this, DJIFly will be one of the best, as for simple Things it works. but right now, try clipping Together 20 or 30 shots and add sound track, you will have some tech issues. It’s not my phone got my phone is a brand new I phone pro max. I have tried with multiple devices, Same outcome.
And lastly, for some reason the mavic mini loses connection randomly. I had to runt through traffic because it mysteriously decided to fly way high in the air on its own and land in the middle of the street? Why would this even be allowed? Completely hazardous. For some reason it is extremely limited. Why is this?
Please fix DJIFly so I can use this useful app for my edits. Will save me a lot of time and energy. Thank you

Not my first drone but first DJI drone

Been using app for a couple days now and has no issues, it’s very user friendly if you have never flown a drone before. It’s a nice feature that before you fly in any area it will ask you to ask for permission to fly if the area is restricted. It’s a very fast process and makes sure you are flying within the rules, so you don’t get a fine flying were your not supposed to. The in editor built into DJIFly is also very easy to you with many features for quick edits if you wanted to post something quick on social media since it only exports files in 1080p. So if you want to get the full 2.7k resolution, you will need to edit on another app or on your computer which is fine.

Mavic mini favorite drone, best drone and app for money

The most wonderful companion app for my brand new Mavic Mini 1. I absolutely love the 2.7k resolution, highly underrated and completely saves about 1/3rd of my memory when compared to 4k 30fps. I would purchase the new beautiful Mini 2, but 4k just is not enough for me to upgrade. My brand new iPhone and 1,300$ MacBook Pro doesn’t even display 4k, so my need for Mini 2 with 4k is literally pointless. Only positive would be its technology longevity. Anyone will be happy with either drone and DJi good job on your best app ever. DJI fly is perfect for beginners, which is why it’s so accessible. Simplicity = Superb.
Thank You DJI, once again. I can’t wait for next update. DJI for Life. Thanks for listening and download “DJI FLY” APP right now.

Would be 4 star but...

I just carved up my legs running through the woods to try to locate my Mini visually and guide it back to safety because this crappy app decided to drop connection to my phone for no reason. I tried to reconnect DJIFly , and eventually it reset itself to the point of my having to re-do the ENTIRE configuration from the new user point- WHILE MY DRONE WAS STILL AIR BORN AND IN DANGER!

Thankfully I and some family were able to eventually spot it and I flew it back - the drone never once lost connection to the RC thankfully, or I’d be out $400. Thankfully we were in a location that was quiet enough that we could hear the drone.

It is unacceptable for the software to be this fluky. I was not even close to max distance, had no hills or structured between myself and the drone. If trees weren’t in the way I wouldn’t have lost visual, which is saying something because the mini is small and hard to spot. So many positives about the mini! Fix DJIFly !

Mavic Air 2

Thank You so much DJI for creating such an awesome product as this Mavic Air 2. I purchased it over a month ago and it is loaded with so many features that seem to be flawless!! I am the owner of a Licensed Home Inspection company and this product is a valuable worthwhile tool. The photos and video are absolutely perfect for this business. I can zoom in on details as if I’m standing there touching the roof and flashings. I highly recommend this easy to use Mavic Air to beginners as well as professionals. I started using it within minutes out of the box and downloading the DJI fly app and following the instructions in DJIFly . Thank You. And I also love how it holds up in the wind.

Dji Mavic Air 2 almost killed somebody

DJ I Mavic air two almost killed somebody the other day we flew out of 60 feet we went to the fly app to change it to apas. ModeI thought the drone floor up we didn’t even touch the sticks that thing flew like 40 mph into a building very dangerous I do wedding photography imagine what would’ve happened so The gimbal broke so did the rest of the drone luckily I have the refresh care highly recommend that there is no reason for his drone to fly away when you are not using the joysticks at a high rate of speed as a dead highly disappointed $50 on delivery probably another $69 on the first drone replacement which should’ve never happened total malfunction other than that I love the drone only thing I don’t like it doesn’t have sound but I’ll get over it totally awesome drone they just need to work out the kinks that’s $1200 gone down the drain if you don’t get the warranty FYI

Devices Overheating due to auto charging

Never have had any issues with DJIFly until the 1.4.8 update. Now both my iPhone 12 and iPad Mini will overheat during flight from the automatic charging from the controller. First symptom is screen brightness gets reduced so much that it’s difficult to see the screen. The issue ends up causing the iPhone and iPad to shut down with a high temperature warning. Not only is this dangerous for flying, it is obviously causing overheating issues (and possibly killing battery longevity) to the devices resulting in them going into a “safe” mode by shutting down. DJI, please bring back the option to disable the charging feature. Also, need to fix the charging feature when active since it shouldn’t be overcharging our devices anyway. Please fix ASAP!!!

Reliable and Practical

I recently bought the Air2s and love it so far. It is designed to use DJIFly. The reason why many are giving DJIFly negative reviews is they don’t realize DJIFly is slightly different for each drone
E.g my 2s and my mini 2 both run the Dji fly I don’t have an adjustable aperture control on both my drones so of course there is gonna be no option
But the New Mavic 3 has it so it has it
Overall DJIFly UI is very intuitive however sometimes the altimeter ( GPS ) shows negative (-) altitudes it gets a little bit confusing especially if your flying low
This is just my review of DJIFly

Great app but lacks features it needs

DJI has built the mavic mini as a solid drone especially for its 249 gram weight. It is incredibly stable in wind. For the price it is lacking features that it is certainly capable of like active tracking or digital zoom. I understand this model is entry level but it should be able to do anything the hardware allows. The mavic mini might get a patch for this but should have had this included on day one. DJIFly is also great for the user and is easy to use, but could be better optimized for the flagship phones. Video uploading could also be made faster. Overall it is a good bang for your buck and we’re looking forward to the above improvements from DJI.

Not a good travel drone

I have great difficulty understanding why DJI would make such a small drone and yet it really cannot be considered a travel drone. There is currently no way to control the Mini with you phone or tablet only this means that although the drone technically can fit in your pocket, you are still constrained to carry around the bulky case with a remote. It is also impossible to quickly power on and launch the drone for those quick shot you can get with the Spark or Air. Such a simple fix to make the Mini truly portable.

Also NEEDS Active Track. The Mini appears capable of it as it tracks its subject during Helix and other Quickshots.

These omissions are simply head scratching.

By

It’s great but.

It’s a great app but it misses some of the functionality of the dji fly app such as a remaining flight time bar and shutter speed for video etc. I also wish there was an advanced mode with more telemetry data as this would give more control to advanced users. But at the very least video shutter speed and iso control would be great. Also it’s obvious that the drone sensor is capable of 4K why limit it even if it could take sales from the mavic air it could be worth it as more people would buy the mini because of its price and camera which could make up that loss. But In general decent app amazing drone just needs some small improvements.

Love Drone! Ok Software

First and foremost I love the drone! But my one complaint about this product is lack of software. The drone has so much advance technology and so many capabilities that aren’t even being used to there full potential due to lack of in app features... I understand that this drone was meant for beginner pilots and that is one reason DJIFly is limited... but plz let us more advance users have the option to use dji Go 4... we all know this drone has all of the same tech the spark had so plz let us use it😁

Thank you

By

Great app 👍🏼

Really enjoy using this simplified app (compared to the GO 4 App). I had an Air before and I really enjoyed it, but the Mini has longer flight time and is a much better value (also the 249g / no registration helps).

The one thing they could do to improve DJIFly is to include more quick shots. I really miss the asteroid and other quick shots. Please add more! The Mini is more than capable of these shots.

Cannot unlock authorization zones = drone won’t fly

There is a lot to love about the Mavic Mini and DJIFly, but there is one huge flaw. The Fly app cannot currently unlock authorization zones. This means I cannot fly the drone at my house because it’s on the very edge of an authorization zone, and DJIFly prevents it from taking off. Any other DJI drone using their other app could fly here, but the Mavic mini will not until they enable unlocking functionality (which, again, is already built into their other drones/app). The Fly app would otherwise be four or five stars, but this issue is a huge one if you live in or near an authorization zone like me.

By

Its a great app but there is a bug

Its a great app to be used with the dji mavic mini been using it for a while but there is something that bothere me, the notification tabs or alert tabs that show up or even the settings tab on top have one background and foreground color which is black, which makes the text unreadable or the alerts unreadable (using iphone xs max) idk it this bug exists with other users or just with me

No Quick Shot Menu Available

I have yet to be able to get the quick shot menu to activate or show up after the firmware update. This is my second Mavic Mini in 7 days and I even upgraded to the fly more combo. Saw the menu button for the quick shot menu as seen on tutorial videos. Did the firmware update per the DJI fly more app and now the square box is gone and only the icons representing video and picture are present. Anyone have this same issue?

By

Authorized zones

Before buying the Mavic mini , I downloaded DJIFly to make sure I could fly at my house, since I’m close to an airport. It showed on DJIFly all you have to do is verify your account and you can unlock the drone to fly in these blue zones.
Now that I bought the drone , charged it ready to fly , it wouldn’t unlock. I can’t even fly in my house.
I called support, they are waiting on a firmware update. This should of been listed on DJIFly or the website stating you currently can’t fly in a blue area. Instead they make it sound like it’s no big deal, so you buy a $500 paper weight.

Missing a few features

There are a few features that is missing for the Mavic Mini, that you would find in any other Mavic. Two of which would be Full Screen and Active Track.

I was totally aware that Active Track was not completely available in the new Mavic Mini. But with the new QuickShot feature, would be the most basic of Active Track (which I hope will become in a future update)

The second part that I was bummed out to have missing, is Full Screen mode. I was hoping I could use this drone for Live-streaming events by Screen Sharing the iPhone to my video switching device. But, since the Mavic Mini does not support Full Screen, now my viewers will see all the controls; which doesn’t look good on any live steam.

Please, at least add Full Screen to the software! That would be most appreciated!

By

iPad Mini Full Screen Not Supported

Please clean up DJIFly for full screen support when used with the iPad Mini.

Some important flight warnings are not fully readable when using the Fly App on the iPad Mini since native iPad Mini screen support is not included with DJIFly . Apple made it so that screen support for multiple iOS size devices is easy to implement. Please do so you will make many DJI Mavic Mini users very happy with very little effort on your part.

Thank you.

Editing is a pain

Great app, but there is a lot to improve. You cannot edit photos for some reason. You can only do it if you transfer them to your photo library first and then import them again in the DJI app. When editing videos and want to continue later it saves them in drafts, but when you open them from there it says the file is damaged and cannot open. The whole filing and saving is confusing.

By

Very capable Drone for little $$$

Now the ability to lift flight restrictions have been incorporated, the Mavic Mini is currently the best camera Drone of its size in the world. No has even come close to what this does for its size and low cost entry point. If you are looking for an affordable flying camera that produces quality images, this one is it.

By

ALLOW FOR VIDEO CUSTOMIZATION

DJIFly would be great if you could control ISO, shutter speed, & WHITE BALANCE in video mode! The EV value doesn’t work that well. It makes no sense that the spark which is more of a toy, to have that control over video and the mavic mini to not have that control. DJI please create an update to make this possible. At least allow for a white balance lock. I was filming at sunset and when I moved the camera down the whole image turned blue and impossible to correct... DJI LISTEN TO YOUR CONSUMERS
