So NOT Intuitive

There is so much possible with EGPulse ; but it's soOOOOoo frustrating the interface is TERRIBLE.

Rather than use interface components iPad and Mac users are familiar with, he reinvented the wheel (perhaps to safe screen real estate). There a HUG learning curve with what should be a mostly intuitive drum pad.

A few examples: Doesn't support CMD+C or CMD+V. There's not an undo (CMD+Z). The grid for creating which pads play when, can not be zoomed with 2 fingers (like many apps support). There's only 16 pads per drum kit; when you think of even a snare which could have different sounds itself (with springs, without springs, rimshot) - you realize it could have been better thought out.

There are some good things: There's a multi-output version. You can load your own wave files for each pad.

IF you're looking for a drum machine patterned after the old physical devices (pun intended) - where you get up and running quickly :: THIS ISN'T IT.

IF you have hours and hours to figure out how things work. This may be for you.

Good but limited to 1 bar patterns

EGPulse would be a home run if it allowed for at least 2 bar and preferably 4 bar patterns. There are workarounds, like song mode, but that is a bit clunky. For all the effort and polish that went into EGPulse the lack of multiple bar patterns is somewhat mystifying especially considering how elegantly this works on Koala sampler for years now.

Love this sampler!

I was looking for a sampler where you could slice and also play in keys mode that’s audio unit compatible so i could use it with Qubasis 3. I love the ease of use like being able to drag and drop from files into pads. I found the perfect audio unit for my needs but unfortunately the audio units crash in Qubasis 3. I only get around to opening my second instance of the audio unit, since i like to keep my drums in separate tracks so i can play hi hates & 808s in keys mode. Eventually it just crashes and i have to reload the audio unit, pretty much deleting what I’ve created. I love this feature rich sampler but i mainly need it to work as an audio unit sampler and not a sequencer or a mixer. An ‘all in on DAW” is what i dream of for iPadOS and this audio unit is helping make that a reality! i want to be able to make beats where i record and mix and not export from app to app. definitely worth it.

Worth every penny (please fix)

Works great with Cubasis three but has one major issue,
When making custom kits they will delete themselves and contain no samples. I am using iOS 13.4 for iPad Pro 12.9.

Once that is taken care of it will be absolutely perfect there will be some other things that people will mention I’m sure but it is already pretty good

Great overall but export of waves files needs updated

So far I’ve really enjoyed EGPulse. It works great as a plug-in inside GarageBand. I wanted to try exported the wave files and importing them into garage band but they don’t match up with the other tracks. Tried it numerous times but still won’t work properly. Once this is fixed this drum machine will be perfect

Great work flow but needs a lot more work

Update:
Thanks to the new update the samples crackle less at 180 BPM. How ever there is a limit. If I am using about only kit sounds I’m good. I go beyond 4-8 then then crackle happens all over again.

One thing that helps is it looks like pulse can be used as a midi controller?

If I’m right about that, thenI can just midi connect to a different drum machine that will have the sounds I want but now with a better controller.

The biggest pro about Pulse is the quantize snap option for the grid mode. If you are looking to cook great beats in a snap by going to the grid and using just using only 1/8 or 1/16 or what ever, it so easy because you are never going to hit a note out side of your snap selection. Such a SIMPLE concept. I wish every beat machine had from Electribe Wave to Patterning to Beatmaker 3.

The snap feature is the best thing for live beat makers on iOS. It’s like scale mode for beats.

That being said, I’m wondering if Eliot Garage primarily makes beats at 100 bpm or below for their own music projects, because, Pulse, “snap crackles and pops” its samples at 126 bpm and above. It was really hard to listen to. I’m on an iPad Pro 10.5 (which I have put the fastest beats through it) using only the kits and samples that are included with EGPulse . This was quite disappointing because I am working on beats hitting 186-200+ BPM. There are some great sounds here in the soundtrack EDM banks that would be perfect for PsyCore and HardCore but the audio engine of Pulse just can’t handle it.

I’m hanging on to EGPulse for about 15 days in hopes for an update that will fix this problem. If not then I’ll have to send it back. It’s a real shame. Great beatmaking interface. Awesome Samples, and a terrific workflow but if it’s clipping Sound of Izraels 505 Techno kit at 136 BPM, what’s the point?

Almost great

I love the AUv3 functionality!

Since the Files app doesn’t have a good preview function, especially when importing samples directly from EGPulse , loading samples is kind of a pain. I think letting us import files from Audioshare in addition to the Files app would be the easiest fix.

The Ultimate Drum Machine on IOS!

Buy it! Highest rated developer who listens to users ideas and EGPulse has been constantly developed! He usually visits the AudioBus forum for users ideas and concerns!

I highly recommend EGPulse!

Dope app I love it

I love using your drum app is like having a bunch of drum loops and samples in one shots without taking up hard drive space other than EGPulse size and you won’t lose your loops or sounds for different projects

Elliott Garage rules.

This is exactly what you want from an iOS sampler: standalone and plugin format, works on iPad and iPhone, extremely intuitive / responsive. Their support is also awesome, I can’t recommend EG enough. Buy it - you won’t regret it.

Brilliant, perfect, thanks!

I pre ordered this because I have all EG’s synths which are awesome. This doesn’t disappoint! It auto downloaded & I was using it all afternoon, never needed guidance because everything is right up front and intuitive. Enjoy this most excellent bit of kit. Everything works great on my 2nd gen iPad pro. Thanks!

No MIDI

Well, it's official I found the best drum sequencer I've ever used. There are a few things wrong with it, but it's been fixed with this update. I just reached out to the developer, and there it was, the fix. I just wish every other app had support like this, five stars!

Brilliant.

*****Thanks for continuing to update this. The sample reordering and renaming is great. Might sound like a dumb request, but I’m wondering if it would be possible to rename a pad with an emoji? Ableton added this and I find it helps when I have a ton of kits.”*****

I’ve owned many hardware grooveboxes, Maschine, MPC’s, ableton Push, Elektron gear and tons of drum synths from Battery to Guru etc etc. Having multiple instances of EG Pulse in AUM controlled by a MiDI drum pad might be as fun and productive as any combo of above. The ability to also not use a controller and have this on phone in my pocket as well is just nuts. So fun, flexible and an absolute deal. Thank you for adding the ability to sample other iOS apps with it in AUM’s effect slot. 👌

Super inspiring developer, just when you think he’s done he adds more to it. Quick at that. Curious to see how far he can take this one.

Fix Ableton Live Project export

I like EGPulse a lot; however, the Ableton Live export does not seem to work properly. When exported and loaded up into Ableton, the samples are blank wav files. If this could be fixed ASAP it would help greatly.

Also it would be nice if EGPulse could use more than 16 sounds slots and 16 patterns. EGPulse really has potential to become a fully-fledged audio sequencer.

Yes you DO need this drum app!

I was a little on the fence whether i really needed another drum app since i pretty much own them all already... But i am very glad i got this one as well. Playing with it for about five minutes already confirmed that i made the right move. Such an incredible complete drummachine with great sounding kits, loaded with cool patterns, very user friendly interface, video tutorials and on top of it all fully functional as AUv3. What is here not to like...? Grab EGPulse and you will not regret it. It instantly already became one of my new favorites. Compliments to the developer for doing such an outstanding and very impressive job!

Best Audio Unit Sampler/Drum Machine Ever

EGPulse has a ton awesome features perfect for any style of music. With the recent updates EGPulse is now my go to sampler/ drum machine for my music production. Keep up the good work. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🛠🧰

Honestly this is a game changer if you’re serious about making music look no further than EG PULSE. You want to chop some samples🔪, no problem👍. You want to pitch some samples🎚, no problem👍. Oh, what’s that, you want to record audio 🎙from other apps well with the latest update that’s no problem👍. What ever you want EG PULSE has it and the development has been the best thing since sliced bread 🔪🍞 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you, thank you, thank you. EGPulse is what iOS musicians been waiting for.

Great app, easy work flow, no brain no pain!

This is a great app , the user interface is awesome ...and so well ergonomically designed you barely have to read a manual. I love the fact that you can chop up longer samples in 4, 8, or 16 slices and adjust the slice markers so you don’t get clicks and pops. I was able to chop up some drum beats and layer individual drum hits on top of the rearranged loops FAST, that bass drum will funk you up Boyee !!! I prefer EGPulse over Beat maker 3 , Korg gadget 2 and
iMPC pro 2! EXCELLENT POGRAMMING!!! It would be nice if in the future an option is added to Copy the entire play mix or single patterns to the “iOS general pasteboard” and have an "open with" option too so pastin and using audio in other apps would be easier and quicker.

Clean, efficient, powerful, but I want more.

Let me start off with the fact that this is a great plugin. It will fulfill most people’s needs. I just want a little more tweak-ability for my own personal uses.

I am new to iOS music production, but I have spent a couple years engineering/producing on desktop in more traditional studio & DAW environments.

Things that I would love to see implemented in EGPulse are complete flexibly over the swing from 0-100% instead of just in 25% intervals. Sometimes you just need that 79% swing if you know what I’m sayin.

To go along with that, I would love for there to be an option to toggle the quantization on and off. Since it automatically quantizes to whatever grid subdivision you have set it’s hard to make a sloppy Dilla style beat with good feel right now. So either the ability to toggle quantization on and off, or more options in the subdivisions, such as maybe quintuplets (1/20th notes, 5 notes per click) or other odd note groupings would allow for more sloppy and angular sounding grooves.

Again EGPulse is great, especially since it has AUv3 multi-out. Those are just some things that I’d like to see in a drum machine.

Thanks for this great AU Drum Machine!

There are some really good drum machine apps on iOS, but E.G. Pulse is one of the first to go AU, meaning it stays in just the state that it’s in when you save the host project, so coming back to it you can pick up right where you left off. Also meaning that you can use multiple instances. I love the ease of creating kits using drag and drop from the files app!

The only additional thing I could really wish for is multiple layer and round-robin sample modes. Also, as with all the E.G. apps, for some reason the volume is always low compared to other apps. Not that it’s that big a deal to turn the master fader up, but it always puzzles me, so I’m mentioning it here. Neither of these is enough to drop a star though, since it should be more than 5 stars already!

Best BeatMaker Just Keeps Getting Better

If you make beats and love Sample based drum machines, then EGPulse is for you. 👊🏼™️ one of the best devs around.

The best just keeps getting bester....🤔...Hrmmm is that even a word 🤪

All kidding aside. Elliott Garage has one of the best approaches to development I’ve seen in quite some time. EG Pulse will be an essential part of your setup if you are a beat maker who has a sampled based workflow. EGPulse is quickly replacing apps like BeatMaker3 and BeatHawk for me.

Keep up the amazing work Elliott Garage!
