The perfect app for cataloging a home library!

I originally found this when looking for an app that I could use to digitally catalogue all the books in my physical library, and let me tell you that it’s really hard to find one with unlimited storage without having to pay a monthly or yearly fee. But Bookshelf is that app! Not only does it have an unlimited number of books you can add, but is also super easy to use. The batch scanning function is particularly easy to use to scan in a bunch of books at a time. I also really love how it has an option for you to add in a book manually if you can’t find it by scanning or searching, and it’s particularly helpful with old books that don’t have bar codes or an ISBN. I can’t think of a single thing I would change about it!

Great app

This is the only app I’ve found that allows me to add my entire collection without having to pay a subscription fee for the large amount of books I own. It also allows me to add shelves so I could organize my book by which bookcase they are on or each shelf on each bookcase that way It’s easier to locate a specific book within my collection. It also has a place that I can put who I let borrow a book and when I let them borrow it. There is also a feature that allows you to quickly add books by doing a batch scan but it will also tell you if you already have a book within your collection when you scan it. This comes in handy when I’m at the bookstore and can’t remember if I’ve already purchased a book or not.

Works for me

In the process of recataloging 2600+ books. I had been using an old Microsoft database program that isn’t supported any longer and won’t run on Windows 10. This new program runs on my iPad and so far — I am about 10% through the library — it is working great. Other apps I have tried had annoying popups urging me to upgrade and some just couldn’t handle the mass of data. I get the feeling that the designer of BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary has a large personal library and knows the issues.
The export feature is capable of generating a text-only version of the catalogue, which will be useful to me in future.
I would like to see a field for Library of Congress number that would search the web the same way the ISBN function does.

This is the one!

I’ve tried several book apps, and this is by far the best. It has all of the features I wanted, is easy to use, and it looks good.

One request I do have - maybe you can make it an option in settings - is that I would like my box sets counted as individual books for a more accurate number of books to appear versus only counting the whole set as one book.

For instance, Throne of Glass by SJM has 8 books. However, scanning the box set to show in my library only adds one book to my overall book total. This can be remedied by scanning each individual book, but I have multiple copies of some books that I collect and would like to record them as accurately as possible for cover references.

Every book lover should download the Bookshelf app!

BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary is phenomenal! Using it is easy and there are so many options! Plus it’s FREE! I can add the books I own, save books to my “wishlist”, note if I let someone borrow books, etc. That way I ALWAYS have my current book list and my future book list, in case I find myself in a book store and have a “did I already buy this” moment or a “is this on my list” moment or “what’s the next in the series” moment!! And if I lend someone a book and I can’t remember who or when it was, I can just check my Bookshelf app! There’s even an option to Explore other top-rated/new books and if you find something you like, it’s easy to just click and add it to your Wishlist!

This is the app you are looking for….

I love BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary. If you are looking to keep track of which books and editions you currently own, this is BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary for you. I have an extensive collection, and a few incomplete series. BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary lets me see which books I have, so I don’t buy the same book twice, as well as keep track of which editions I currently have. It also lets me keep track of my wish list, which I can send to people for my birthday and Christmas. The only draw-back is that people can’t open the lists unless they download BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary . Overall, it is a great way to track what you have on your shelves!

Good book tracking app. Only a few things I would change

I’ve downloaded a few of these apps to see which is the most user friendly. This was one I ended up keeping because it had most of the things I was looking for. Love that it has the statistics for books read and not read. I really enjoy the way it’s set up as well. Really easy to use. The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars is because the scanner is not the best. It takes a bit for it to actually scan the book which gets a bit frustrating. Also the fact that I can’t add multiples of the same book. I am a book collector and some books I have multiple copies of. So being able to scan one book several times would be helpful. Other than that it’s a great app and if you don’t have multiples it will work for what you want.

Does everything a book app should!

From keeping tracks of books you own, have read, and want to read; it goes beyond by letting us add our notes!! Love being able to track progress and how many times I’ve read, who I’ve lent to or received from. Thank you!

Originally had a 5 star, but sadly had to change to 4 star when realized two things.
1) although generous character limit, I dislike that a character limit exists for my notes/thoughts on the book
2) it should allow us to edit how many actual pages are in the book. I don’t read “sources” pages, so it shouldn’t be incorporated in the total pages so there can be more accurate progress percentages.

Very Happy

My wife and I have been using BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary for a few days to organize our extensive home library and the libraries of my office, parents house, and my grandma’s house. We couldn’t be more happy. We’ve only used a short while but cataloging by multiple tags per book and then by ‘bookshelf’ location is fantastic. Batch adding by scanning is great and works great. Manual add is easy for old books. The search feature seems to work very good. We will be buying the developer many cups of coffee (an option in BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary to support the developer of the all) as we continue to use BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary. Did I mention it’s all completely free?!

a must-have for bibliophiles everywhere!

I am notorious for buying multiple copies of the same book on accident, mostly because I have a lot of books in storage and I’ve never had a catalogue to reference… until now! The Bookshelf app has been a lifesaver for keeping track of all the physical and digital books I own. It’s super easy to use—includes a reading tracker, very intuitive sorting tool, and a make-your-own tags feature, which I love—and offers great storage (I’m at 812 books and counting). I truly can’t say enough good things about it! I’ll definitely be recommending it to all my bookish friends 💚

Perfect app for organizing and cataloging books

Thank you so much for creating this simply free app for organizing and cataloging all the books I currently have and want . I love that it has a scanner including a batch mode to upload all the books and if a title is incorrect you have the ability to change it . I can even create multiple shelf’s for the all the different categories of books , like cooking , gardening and so on. Best of all there is no limits of how many books you can add or the number of shelves and no annoying ads . Again thank you. Could you create another app just like this for DVDs?

So far, so good

When the barcode matches the ISBN it’s pretty quick. Dictating the barcode it’s also pretty quick.

Edit: The author field is often displayed as , . When sorting by author it’s clearly sorting on , . When exporting, the author field is exported as . The exported list of books is more useful if the author field were , .
Also, I have a whole bunch of old books which have an ISBN printed, and a barcode which doesn’t match the ISBN. In order to enter these into the program I have to manually enter the ISBN myself. It would be nice if the program keyed off the text “ISBN” and scanned the characters of the ISBN that follow, ignoring the non-ISBN barcode.

Great app

I really love the batch scan feature books . I have hundreds of books so it really saved me some time . I have a suggestion. Is there a way to add alert to the person that I lent my book to ? For example . When I type in who I lent the book too have a section to add their cell number . Then 2 days before it’s due it will automatically send them a text message from my phone or from BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary that says “ your book is due please return your book to (insert name’s ) library . Also when I’m using BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary on my iPad And I’m manually entering a book it won’t allow me to see what I’m typing . I really really love BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary . I’m so grateful !!!

Loving it! Please please please do not make "pro" like the others

SO MANY reading/book tracker apps I have downloaded always have in-app purchases that take away from actually being able to use BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary . (Ex. Only able to add 20 books unless you pay for pro.) I have had to delete so many apps because of this issue, and "Bookshelf" is finally one that I love and can use for its actual purpose LOL. Keep up the great work!! I love BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary, just please don't make "pro" or make us pay for basic functions in the future.

Thank you developers!

Finally a book saving app that lets you create an account. Why would I want an app that only stores my book library on my phone? I don’t want to pay for iCloud and if I lose my phone I don’t want to loose all of the books (500+). If that happens it would be a waste of my precious time. In addition, this book app doesn’t spam me over and over again with quests to upgrade to the full version. This is my first review, I’m just so impressed that I had to leave a review.

Clean and beautifully organized

I love the bookshelf app! I went through dozens of apps before I found this one. It’s exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a clean, beautiful interface where I could keep track of my books and what I have read. I love that you can create bookshelves and organize it in any way that you’d like. I love that there isn’t a huge social emphasis because I’m not interested in that when it comes to my reading apps. Thank you for creating a beautiful and helpful app!

Awesome App!

I absolutely adore BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary! I have used many apps like this but none of the others were as easy to use. Batch scanning is great and so far I have scanned in over 600 books. I also love that I can see it across all my devices and can scan books on any of them! Having the actual book covers as the pictures just makes it even better!

Is there away to move books by the same author in a different order so they are grouped together?

Beautiful Book App!

I have been searching for years for a book app that is not only beautiful to look at but also has all the right features. This is it! I’m absolutely floored that it’s free. But happily signed up to be a member to support the developer. An added bonus that I’ve never seen in any of the other book apps is that you can set up Price alerts for books in your wish list. A feature I didn’t know that I needed.

LOVE

BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary is flawless. Super intuitive, great UI, quick to read barcodes. Absolutely wonderful.

I do have one feature request: if a book that’s already in the library is scanned again, it would be nice if it gave you the option to increment the number of copies right there. As of right now you have to exit the scanner and go into the book details to add a copy, so something without leaving the scanner would be nice.

Love this app!

I buy a every book I can find from my favorite author, and I was sometimes buying doubles because I would come across one and not have a list of which books I owned. I downloaded BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary and now anywhere I go it takes two seconds to check if I have the book. It also allows me to keep track of which books I’ve read and what page I stopped on. I’m so happy I found BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary!

Awesome Book Organizing App

I would recommend this to any book lover and book collector, or anyone that simply wants to keep track of what books they do and don’t have! I finally know which books I have in collections and which ones I still need to buy! This is by far the best app for book organization that I’ve seen or used! Beats the socks off of Goodreads in my humble opinion!

Very efficient cataloguing for home library

BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary lets me catalogue and track all the books I own!

Love new update allowing for batch scanning of book ISBNs! Makes the long process of cataloguing many books much easier.

Love that I can export a list of books! I shared my book list with friends to help them find new reading material.

I have separate shelves for books I’m borrowing from people and for books I’ve loaned out. Super helpful!

Really nice interface, very clean and easy to use.

I appreciate that I can manually enter books without a valid ISBN (including some old or antique books, foreign publishers, etc.).

Also offers recommendations for more reading!

Books all in one place

The best app ever. Never buy the same book again. With BookShelf you store all your books and favorite authors. It’s GREAT
Highly recommended

I was surprised

I was surprised at two things. One the lack of a sorting option that sorts your books in to their series and in chronological order. The second thing is a good thing they have batch scan is super helpful plus BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary will help when I forget which books I already have.

Awesome

Really enjoy the program

By

Good

This is easy to scan in books but it will not let me sort these by type or ISBN number. If this can be done, please let me know how. I have thousands of books.

By

Best App Ever

I love it, I can not only track the books I am reading but also how much money I spend and the books I want to buy. It also connects to my amazon account to buy them. SUPER recomended

No landscape mode

An iPad app with no landscape mode is an instant delete for me.

Great for homeschool!

Easy to use and modify for your needs. I was able to put BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary on my android phone and iPad with my account linked. I was able to create multiple shelves to organize all the books. Now I know what I have so I won’t purchase multiples! Highly recommend!

Powerful & Versatile

BookshelfYourvirtuallibrary is really valuable for users with a large library size. The option of scanning the barcode saves time, or searching by ISBN code. It can still have certain improvements like repeating some templates while you are adding books or collections that are not registered, and expanding your searches to magazines.
Exporting the files is a significant achievement in different formats. Excellent.
