Useless download without paid upgrade

2024-09-08

I’ve been looking for a reasonable portable environment to do some lightweight Python/Jupyter work on the iPad.

Reviews look good, go to download to hoping to be able to try before buy, but nope. The free use of this tool is no different from what you get out of the stock Files app. I would have at least liked to get a feel for how editing with this IDE would have been, but I’m not chancing it on a $25 Pro Upgrade that can’t bother to have any features resembling what’s in the Free app.

Omg, i should have read the critical reviews

2024-06-24

I have the exactly the same problems with other reviewers on tensorflow. As iPad should have enough compute power for some machine learning, I thought it would be cool that I can test out the structure on iPad and then apply somewhere else. This software can’t do that.

Crashes too often for being a paid programming app

2024-09-08

I started using Juno to make my online learning more mobile but its actually a bit frustrating how much it crashes on iPhone 12 Pro and on ipad mini. No problems in desktop Jupyter. 3stars cause the other stuff works well. Thank you

APP NEEDS IMPROVING FOR IPAD USERS

2024-04-04

Im trying to figure out how to install sympy but none of the instructions have been clear or helpful. When I click on a notebook tile, it doesn’t give me the option to install a package at all. It’s not on the options list when you click a notebook tile. Also, trying to install sympy through anaconda website also has also been very confusing for an iPad user. It’s not user friendly at all. Many people really need help with this.

Really good. But...

2024-09-16

This is a great tool. Well worth the money. The one problem I have is it doesn’t persist in memory very well when switching apps. When returning to Juno, it has to reload, playing the splash screen, and lands you at the file browser window. It doesn’t even reopen the notebook you were working in. Very annoying.

Other than that, I find it to be solid and highly useful.

Problem with Apple Vision Pro

2024-03-18

This is a great app on iPhone and iPad, but when attempting to open or edit, a python source file it crashes immediately. I was hoping to be able to do python development using Juno on Apple Vision Pro, but I guess I will have to wait for a future version.

Missing some quality of life features

2024-09-02

Don't let 4 stars fool you... This is by far the best Python ide available on the AppStore. Period. Completely worth the asking price. I have exactly ZERO regrets. My only complaints are minor at best and don't even belong here because Juno functions perfectly fine as is. I just have quality of life wishes that would take it to a 5 star for me. You really need a dedicated community, an official forum, discord group, something for issues, bugs and suggestions.. I bet it would take off in a hurry.

Great App, But Refreshing issue

2024-05-14

Juno really increases iPad productivity and power. Nothing really says a powerful tablet like being able to write scripts on it, and Juno enables the tablet to be just that. Just tag on a keyboard and you’re basically using a laptop. It has a great layout and is extremely intuitive and well built.

HOWEVER, whenever I want to switch between other apps for referencing (which is often), I find that I have to wait for this app to “boot up” again. Juno boots up really fast, so this issue is really more of an annoyance than an inconvenience. Aside from that small issue, it is 5/5!

Recent Update Wiped out my ability to use the app

2024-05-25

The recent update to 1.2.8 has completely destroyed the utility of Juno. Not only did it wipe out all my notebooks and time-consuming painstaking installation of MANY pure python pypi packages for my notebooks, but upon uninstall/reinstall it doesn’t create its base set of files and thus I can’t even begin again. New notebooks cannot be created or executed.

Will revise upon developer resolution of this massive issue. Before this it was an awesome tool.

Packages

2024-05-14

I love Juno it comes with everything you need to work with python on a Normal case. But I really wish there was one thing that could be implemented, and that would be pygame, if the pygame package was able to be installed Juno I feel would be even more of perfect app. If any developers find this I would like to know if this is possible, and if so how or when could it be implemented…

The only editor worth your time

2024-08-02

I'm surprised everything is just useful, no exceptions. Idk why other editors don't have colon and underscore come up automatically on the keyboard, even ones specifically made for Python.

Working great so far

2024-09-26

I bought this after having issues opening Excel files in another app with Jupyter Notebook support. Everything has been seamless so far. The autocomplete has also been quite nice, including suggesting column name strings.

I haven’t been able to get the ‘connect to Google Drive’ to work. That is annoying as iCloud is not a decent alternative for sharing files across platforms.

Data Science on your iPad!

2024-08-10

Fantastic to be able to start out developing data science apps and analyses from my iPad. For those that outgrow my iPad, then I can transition them to a server (local or cloud) and keep right on working from my iPad using this app Connect. Finally able to work almost exclusively from my iPad!

really nice

2024-08-02

I am a mathematician and I like to use C, Fortran and Lua to do computations. After so many years, I decided to try Python for Math and this app made it so easy for me to transition. So far, I like it and I have been able to use the libraries that I need to do my job like Numpy, SciPy and Pandas. Very nice tool and the support seems to be excellent.

It’s fantastic.

2024-09-26

It’s the best version of what it does, hands down.

Just leaving this review because after several months of great use, I ran into the first bug. Latest version, as it was offloaded by iCloud and just finished re-downloading. It immediately would crash on my iPhone XS, Black.

I deleted and reinstalled… It’s fixed now. Great work guys!

Excellent .. best paid app in a long time

2024-09-26

Integrates well with files on iPad. I am doing my data science e-learning on iPad, and now can open up / edit / Run examples in iPad. Fantastic! I coded an IOS app before and submitted to AppStore, so I can appreciate the work done here. Worth every penny! Predictive text, import python modules, many popular already installed !! I love it. WELL DONE! I hope pywidgets work .. then have a new iOS application demo platform ; )

Wow I am finally learning Python!

2024-09-26

This thing is absolutely amazing. I’m very much a beginner/amateur, never used Jupyter, and know just enough python to frustrate myself with the potential and possibility. Having this on an iPad, and so functionally well contained, it has been a pure delight for a simpleton such as myself. My python learning is finally starting to stick. I’m addicted!

(This isn’t to say you can’t do powerful advanced things, I just wouldn’t know, lol)

Work likes Jupyter Notebook; makes it easy to use Python on the iPad

2024-09-26

I am a Bioinformatician and I use Jupyter Notebook and Python as part of my workflow. Every now and then I like to take a break from using my computer, and simply use my iPad Pro to write Python scripts. I really like Juno as it suits this purpose. this app works like Jupyter Notebook, with the markdown style, python console, and even the functional keys of “B”, “A”, “M”, when adding a new line below, above, and markdown that makes Jupyter Notebook easy to use.

I haven’t had any issues with delays, crashes, or bugs. It works great, and to take things a step further, I would really like to see R included as a language for Juno. There is definitely a need for it.

You can external packages

2024-09-19

Great tool worth the mone. You can do most of what you might be used to with a desktop Jupyter notebook but with an iPad. Pure python packages can be installed on a per-notebook basis. I didn’t notice a way to install packages globally. I’ll keep digging and reading.

Jupyter on iPad!!

2024-09-19

Great implementation, the interface is thoughtful, simple, and elegant, just like Jupyter! I’ve had no crashes and there’s a good number of well respected libraries, plus you can load others provided they’re pure Python. Nice!

When are you going to update the Python latest version!!!etc….Requesting New features

2024-09-26

We need this *advanced New features*!!! When are you going to update the Python version (Python 3.10.0/Python 3.9.9), add new programming languages such as R, Julia, C++, JavaScript, C#, Swift and more programming languages, update the latest Python3 frameworks/libraries, add Tensorflow, add Keras, add PyTorch and integrate Kaggle deep learning and integrate GitHub. Dev(s) we need this advanced features if you want this “this app” app to be called a “pro ml/data science” app

Revolutionary

2024-09-19

Pythonista, which I also have, was ahead of its time. However, it really didn't keep up.

this app is the golden standard now, nothing short of revolutionary. It puts an entire Python scientific and ML development environment in your device, including a Python interpreter, Jupyter, NumPy, Matplotlib, Pandas, SciPy, Scikit-learn and a few other libraries and packages. Oh, plus the capability to install additional pure Python libraries, such as SymPy.

Fantastic and highly recommended.

On the right track

2024-04-12

Having access to Jupyter notebooks from an IpadPro is a fantastic productivity advance.

I think the developer is on the right track and Juno feels great!.

Keep those updates coming...please!

Makes all the difference on the iPad

2024-04-13

I love using this. I really do. I can’t do the heavy lifting with large files on it but 90% of the light stuff I can on my iPad at the office with great joy.

Thank you guys!

Exactly what it says it is

2024-03-15

This is a great Jupyter client for iOS. The only thing I wish it did would be to advance to the next cell automatically once the current cell is run.

Features

Notebook documents keep a record of all inputs and outputs from an interactive programming session, and the rich output generated by running Python scripts (including HTML, images, video, and plots) is embedded within the Jupyter notebook document.

Juno supports both Python scripts (.py) and Jupyter notebooks (.ipynb) — a document format focused on applying Python to data analysis and computational science.

A Jupyter notebook is a versatile document format that enables you to store live code, markdown text, plots, images, and LaTeX equations — all within a single notebook file with a .ipynb extension.

Juno is designed to cover all your Python coding needs, and will work seamlessly with all source code formats.

Juno lets you work on these with snappy code completion, a console with full terminal emulator support, a built-in media viewer for code-generated images, plots, web apps, and more.

Juno will execute the code using an embedded Python interpreter, locally on your iPhone or iPad and completely offline.

Python scripts are plain-text Python source code files with a .py extension.

They are particularly convenient for coding in Python for data analysis, machine learning, or computational science in general.
