Think about this in reverse.

Think about if white people named an app white meditation and then in the description of THEVILLAGE listed white owned for white people just wanna be clear who were here for WHITE people although yeah everyone is welcome. *Eyeroll* Talk about some reverse racism bull**** Disgusting you should be ashamed of yourselves all of you. Dear Apple I’m so sick of you allowing trash apps like this. So let me get this straight it’s perfectly fine for reverse racism apps against white people however I can’t have an app for my puffco Pro for my medical marijuana? Makes a lot of sense Apple. This libtard Biden nation is becoming way too hard to swallow and coexist with. #Giantmeteor2022

Paid for premium but no access.

Paid for premium and it has not shown up. This has been since December and I have contacted them many times to help but no response ever. Simple enough issue and if you’re going to offer premium and charge people then just. Respond.

unfortunately, I cannot recommend this AT ALL at time. Posting this review in hopes to have a response, finally, but not feeling hopeful at this point.

Would revise review if it’s resolved and made right.

Great concept..poor app design

Originally loved THEVILLAGE when first downloaded. It was easy to navigate. I liked how you could choose either a talk or a meditation. It really felt like I found the POC resource for meditation i was looking for. If I were to rate just content it would be 5 stars, but due to poor design I had to rate lower. The original version allowed for choosing talk or meditation. Also the categories were right there when you opened THEVILLAGE . The fonts are so big you can’t read entire word on some things. It just seems clunky. Tried to send feedback but the feedback “button” wasn’t working. Hope you can make some upgrades to make THEVILLAGE better. I miss the POC teachers and meditations.

Meditations poorly produced and unhelpful

I started using meditation apps long before they were popular. I understand that a new app is still figuring out what users like, what content should be free and what should not.

That being said, the meditations are not that good. There’s definitely potential, but a lot of recordings are more conversational and the guide spends a lot of time reviewing a topic, rather than focusing on actual meditation.

If I wanted to listen to meditative musings regarding my people and other PoC then THEVILLAGE would be great. For actual guided meditation, I would look elsewhere.

Beautiful meditations but hate the new updates

I love THEVILLAGE it provides really focused and beautiful meditations for people of color. That allow you to introspect and calm yourself. But I really don’t like that now the majority of the are only accessible with premium. I was so excited for a free app made by people like me for people like me. But now I can’t access my favorite meditations that have helped me a lot without premium.

I am so ready to love this app but I keep running into technical issues

I am so ready to love THEVILLAGE, but unfortunately technical issues are getting in the way of my peace. For some reason I am not able to create/access my profile and every meditation I favorite does not show up in my favorite list. I know THEVILLAGE is divine. I have been CRAVING a meditation app that only features voices of color so this is personally disappointing. My rating SOLELY reflects my issues with THEVILLAGE , not the content or message.

Love it but if I could change 1 thing.

Great app. Love the discussions. The sound quality could be better. I felt like I was in a classroom at times and felt like I had to try a little harder to hear on some of them. It just needs to be cleaned up so it doesn’t sound like they’re doing a recording out of the cell phone’s voice recorder. Besides that, it’s wonderful!!!

What we never knew we were waiting for

I first learned about Liberate last year and was instantly blown away by what its founder had created. I’ve been practicing meditation and listening to dharma talks for years, but never even considered that I could have a sangha that would feel like a true home until Liberate presented it to me. Before checking out its offerings I foolishly assumed it would be yet another meditation app emphasizing how-to’s and guided meditations led by a soothing voice actor, but as soon as I saw whose wisdom was included I was humbled and inspired by the caliber of Liberate’s contributors. As a psychotherapist and yoga and meditation teacher, I constantly refer friends and clients to Liberate and am so grateful for this incredible tool!

Liberating Indeed

I use the Liberate app daily, sometimes just for the 5 minute meditations if I don’t have time for the longer meditations. The meditations in THEVILLAGE have been healing and liberating for me. It’s also easy to use and beautifully designed. I highly recommend for folks who want to connect to meditations that center BIPOC and LGBTQIA voices.

Going above and beyond

I usually don’t take the time to write reviews, but have to for Liberate. This is the most intentionally designed mediation app I’ve ever come across. Such a gift that this is specifically supporting BIPOC!

Julio and Rachel, both working to develop THEVILLAGE, take time to consider and apply user suggestions. Their mediation practice is felt through the care with which this has been designed, audio recordings have been segmented by them and many, many volunteers, and the like. Truly an embodiment of a collective effort to support us all! Truly such a gift, and worth the money I put towards supporting everyone’s practice.

It is truly inspiring to see something designed for accessibility not diminish quality or impact in the process! 🙏🏽

Home and Sounds of Blackness

While THEVILLAGE feature facilitators of many ethnic backgrounds, as a Black woman I relaxed and deeply exhaled the first time I listened to a Liberate meditative guidance session. I can only describe it as a combination of hearing “Home” by Stephanie Mills and “Optimistic” by The Sound of Blackness. I knew it! Finally, someone gets it. The cultural sound and soul of the voice of the spiritual facilitator truly matters.

Thank You!

THEVILLAGE fills a much needed void in the mindfulness and meditation space. That blank space consisted of not hearing the voices of people who were culturally and spiritually influential in the practices from inception. I am appreciative of being introduced to THEVILLAGE; although I’ve only listened to one talk today, I felt revived and I’ll definitely be back for more!!

The link to liberation

THEVILLAGE could be the missing link for your liberation. I’ve been meditating off an on for some time but THEVILLAGE allows me as a PoC to also consider my meditation practice from a justice and liberation perspective. It centers our experiences with living in an oppressive world and for me it is so liberating. I am so thankful for those who created it. I tell every PoC I know about THEVILLAGE and I think you will too!!

When they go low, we go high

THEVILLAGE is not just some icon you press in your phone to relieve some stress before getting out of bed in the morning, it is a creation to help our kin heal, rebuild and liberate. You see yourself in this, you find yourself and you take in the words of those who have lived to speak wisdom to you through those guided meditations. You will not just meditate, you will be found.

Affirming (and Speaks to) My Roots!

Meditation that is affirming to my identity, that acknowledges identity-based/racial stress and oppression, that also holds the value and weight of my ancestral connection! This is game changing in my experience of meditation. To feel seen, heard, and held in a space that can feel white-centered/euro-colonized is to not have to leave part of myself at the door when trying to find my center!!

Love this but I wish they’d add one thing

As a newcomer to Buddhism, I love having an app with talks and meditations focused on POC and our experience, but there’s one thing I wish they’d add. The ability to turn on dark mode! I do a lot of my meditating at night and the bright white background makes it difficult to use. I still use it regardless, but I’d love if it had a toggle or automatically went into dark mode when my phone does. Keep up the great work!

Amazing!!!

I LOVE THEVILLAGE. You have all your meditations and talks in one place. It’s difficult to find POC that do self care and upkeep work on the mainstream apps, but THEVILLAGE is really one of a kind in that it offers a space for us to be in community. It offers meditations and guidance with our experiences in mind. I use THEVILLAGE multiple times a day and it has really been a support in my healing journey. THANK YOU for this offering.

Absolutely Download!

Pleasure and peace often gets lost under the weight of oppression, and it is liberatory work to reclaim it. Liberate Meditation App helps me find clarity, peace of mind and gratitude throughout the many challenges 2020 has presented. In the heat of today's political, economic, social and environmental crisis, it's vital for POC to remain grounded and united as a community. Thank you Liberate for the safe space you've created for so many in need, including myself! We have to be able to feel the light in order to keep going — in order to know that we’re getting somewhere..

Amazing Resource for BIPOC

Liberate has really been a great resource! I am just starting my journey into mindfulness and meditation as part of my self-care regiment and when I began to look for guided meditation apps, I couldn’t find any with people that sounded like me or that touched on topics that were important to me. A friend recommended Liberate and when I started to explore their offerings I was taken aback in the best way: Liberate truly centers Black voices and the folx guiding the meditations speak powerfully. I am really grateful to have been connected to this resource. Highly recommend for those looking to do specific guided meditations!

Beautiful and powerful

I cannot write enough good things about my experiences with the Liberate app and the Liberate community. Wonderful, varied, targeted content that help me process, well, life plus a thoughtful, kind community always willing to support us. I will recommend THEVILLAGE /experience to everyone in search of stability, quality, and accessibility in mental health and whole self care.

The best app on my phone!

Y’all! I came across THEVILLAGE while preparing to hit up Oakland for AfroTech. I absolutely love it and decided to add it to my evenings. It’s really helpful on those days I end up having several conversations with folks who are experiencing a housing/financial crisis. Please do get into it! It’s for YOU!

#Liberate

This is so important.

I’ve always felt that something has been missing from my meditations. And THEVILLAGE cures it. There is a connection to our people and ancestors that is a vital part Of the human condition. It’s often ignored in mainstream meditations. I’m so happy THEVILLAGE exists. Everyone should have it!

Best POC-centered meditation app

None of that annoying ommmm white girl stuff and rain droplets (although if some talk on here does use rain stuff it’s probably tolerable). The sleep relaxation knocks ya girl out in 5 minutes flat. I’ve never made it past the first body part. They touch on issues that go deep (impermanence, ancestors, fear).

Thank you, more please!

I’m a yoga and meditation teacher and I am a POC. I literally cried when after I tried the first guided meditation on THEVILLAGE. Creating spaces - even virtually - for POC to find healing and solace in this practice is everything! 🙏🏼 I am doing in real life work to make yoga and meditation accessible to POC and will be sharing THEVILLAGE with the folks I meet.

Game changer

I have always had trouble sitting for meditation. I found myself getting distracted and pulled out of focus. Also, in the market of meditation apps, I never found any content that really resonated with me. Liberate app is seriously a gift. I’ve been using it for over a month, and used it every day.

So grateful

So grateful that someone has taken the time to prioritize wellness for someone like me . I feel at home when listening to the meditations and there are great talks from amazing teachers . Thank you for providing the access and empowering our community .

⛔️ ⛔️ ⛔️ STAND CLEAR ⛔️ ⛔️ ⛔️ Avoid investing your money and time in this app at all costs!!!!! Seriously!! My therapist recommended I give this app a try during the pandemic. Initially, I was excited on the concept of a safe place for BIPOC solidarity and grounding. The first handful of months using this app there were frequent meditations and talks uploaded by numerous individuals from different cultural, educational and religious backgrounds. Although I didn’t enjoy every meditation, I decided to invest my money to support the larger cause. For most of 2021, there was a massive block of time where barely any new content was uploaded. This should’ve been a red flag, but I decided to renew my membership; again, wanting to support the initiative while hoping for new & better content. Fast fwd to 2022: I regret every investment I’ve made in time, money and patience. (1) I paid for a year upfront and have experienced multiple technical glitches limiting my access to the app. (2) It has taken customer service over 5 months to get back to me; they still haven’t resolved the glitch and refuse to give me a refund. (3) Making matters worst, “Heru” fka Julio Rivera (the owner) has uploaded a series of cult-like content to the app that make me extremely uncomfortable! EVERYTHING from what he’s saying to how he’s saying it is unsettling. Heru has been the only person uploading new content to the app this year. Why?? That is a red flag we all shouldn’t ignore. I don’t typically leave reviews, but avoid the headache and learn from my mistake!!! Sadly, this is not what it is advertised to be despite how amazing it sounds. In short: ⛔️ AVOID ⛔️ TRY ANOTHER APP ⛔️ THIS ONE IS NOT WORTH IT ⛔️ SCAM ⛔️ POOR COMMUNICATION AND SURFACE LEVEL COMMUNITY SUPPORT ⛔️
