Cool but…

Kippo seems fun! I downloaded it tho only to check it out for a few days to see how I felt about it and maybe find some friends who like the same games I do. After swiping through the limited amount of people in a day, I didn’t find people who liked the same games I did the first day I used it but I thought that was fine for the first day. HOWEVER, I haven’t downloaded the full version yet, of course since I’m still trying it out, and when I came back to use it again Kippo still says, “that was all the profiles for you today.” I didn’t know there was a limited amount of swiped profiles Kippo had forever, I just thought it would reload every few days to smaller limited amount than the first day. Since I was just trying it out, it still seems fun and has a very cool idea, but for just trying it for one day it doesn’t really encourage me to buy Kippo . If Kippo has instead a smaller limited amount of profiles a person can look at each day, I think it would peak a persons interest more to buy Kippo to see more people. But to completely block people from seeing more people on Kippo after using a certain amount of profiles it seems understandable why people say there is not alot of people in Kippo. Overall, I’m giving Kippo 4 stars because I genuinely enjoyed it and thought it was super cool but I will be deleting Kippo .

Cool concept, but poor execution and empty app

Conceptually, this is a very interesting way to approach dating apps. I like the customizable cards and the ability to link up to nine of your favorite games to your profile. The low number of photos you can submit of yourself (up to four) may be a turn off for some, but I personally prefer it. HOWEVER, Kippo is held back by two major factors: a low number of accounts and the very limited amount of swipes per day. I have only logged into Kippo a few times and have already gone through every profile within a reasonable radius. You can expand this radius to +500 miles, but unless you are up for a long distance relationship, most people are going to be looking within 50 miles and even that’s pushing it. The fact I went through every profile is even more surprising when you realize you are limited to 30 swipes a day. Not likes, swipes. As in you are allowed to look at up to 30 profiles a day before you are tapped out. I only recently managed to get one match and as of right now she has not responded. There is potential here, but as of right now it’s mediocre at best.

Some of my thoughts

First off, I just wanna say that this is app is creative with the card system and the whole choose 9 favorite games to display. I actually enjoyed filling all of those out and I looked forward to seeing other people posting their favorite stuff. However, from what I noticed on the reviews on Kippo (and with personal experience) is that I and some other people haven’t found 1 match, despite having it for some time. I had Kippo for over 2 weeks now, I still couldn’t find a match. I’m not sure if it’s just a me thing, but it doesn’t feel like it because I tried my best to look attractive to some people and I’ve seen other reviews out there having the same issue. I don’t think my account is even visible on Kippo because of this. I also dislike the 30 swipes a day deal, even if I’m not attracted to the person and swipe left, it counts as one. Extremely restricting for the user. I understand it’s a small base and it’s at it’s early stages, but c’mon not one match? Even after a couple of weeks? I just feel like Kippo isn’t good enough to even interact with people, at least not yet, since it doesn’t match you with others. Ironic, since it’s a dating app. Kippo has potential though.

A good app, but not very useful

While the idea of Kippo is excellent in concept (I had fun just filling out my profile and viewing other people’s for a few weeks), I’ve never had a single match. Just about every single day for at least a month, I’ve exhausted my available likes and sent my one free message to a girl I thought was cute and I’ve gotten nothing back. Not even a like by *anyone*. I’m not a male model, granted, but I put effort into my profile and my messages. To not even get a single like implies to me that Kippo has an intense gender imbalance and the girls that do try it out are swamped with likes and messages. Distance doesn’t really matter, either: for the first few weeks I was content to set it at the maximum distance, but got nothing. When I lowered to my immediate area and swiped through my potential matches, I also got nothing.

I feel like if I even had a single like or match to show me that I *exist* on Kippo, I’d be more inclined to use it. As it stands now, though, I consistently forget that I even own it because nothing ever comes of it.

Enjoyable!... when it works

So my experience with this is positive for the most part I had Kippo for about 3 days and it’s not like any other app I’ve every seen. It’s like MMO mixed with a dating app. It’s quite enjoyable to be honest, there is a switch so you can just meet friends or if you are looking for someone to date hit the switch and people who also hit the switch will see you it’s a really nice concept. I meet someone ( who i still don’t know if they had a fake account or not which I did spot a few so be careful about that) but we did have a nice conversation before I suspected they were a troll. And then someone else ( who wasn’t a fake account) liked my account. But than Kippo kicked me out and won’t let me back in and every time I try it tries to make me make a new account but every time I do it starts over again. So Kippo is very cool but very buggy and needs some work still but the time I spent on it I enjoyed it and if a developer sees this can you please fix this bug thanks I’m not the only one who has gone through this.

Love this app still BUT….

Please add a way to find people who play the same games as well as a better matching system. I know finding each other by game or something similar was being worked on, but after coming back to Kippo almost all my matches had nothing in common with me. Not even game wise. I don’t think this app does random matches but out of almost 100 people so far that’s what it felt like. I just want to meet people who actually have the same interests and not just playing video games. Also some dating apps/ sites have badges or indicators that show someone is also into the same movements they are. It would be nice to know i’m meeting people who care about the same things I do ie. BLM, StopAsianHate, and especially knowing if they support the victims of the Activision/Blizzard lawsuit. Majority of the people on Kippo play Overwatch or League which is one thing but running into bigots who don’t care about victims is another. I know it can feel gimmicky, but it is a real problem in a gaming community and showing support would be nice.

Finally a legit app for gamers!?

After being burned out on all the dating apps with shady practices owned by Matchgroup, Kippo is seriously refreshing. You can connect with people based on gaming lifestyles and the Card system is a fantastic way to express yourself even if you’re not a big fan of filling out profiles.

The algorithm is extremely honest and transparent, plus it doesn’t try to decide what you want for you. It will tell you if there are people in your area and it won’t get funky with showing you matches outside of what you search for.

I’m just an average guy who likes to strike up normal, casual conversation as an opener and there’s this membrane I often can’t punch through on usual “industry” dating apps. On this app, I’m actually getting conversations from matches and that’s after only having signed up for a few days!

Not to mention, their premium service was only $10/month, or less if I were to get the multi-month subscription?? Goodbye OkCupid and your ridiculous $50/Month A-List. You can play an MMO for $15/month, so this app’s pricing actually respects my time and my money.

Keep up the great work!! I’m going to stay subscribed to premium and see how this app expands and evolves over time. I definitely want more card variety, and it would be great if I could list more games as favorites or as a “here’s what I’ll play with you” list. Other than that, expanding the user base is the only urgent thing I’d like to see.

Nice design but not full of people

Let me just say that I love how Kippo looks, I also thinks it’s pretty simple to use.
I think the idea of the cards is super creative, but I wish there were more kinds of cards and that you could add more than 3 to your profile.
I also feel like Kippo is kinda empty? I mean I’ve used this for 3 days and I’m lucky enough to get the 30 profiles it promises you and they all seem different so I don’t see repeating ones. The limit kinda makes it feel empty tho?
I don’t know how many females there are on Kippo though. I’m a female myself and maybe there’s more males so that’s why I have the luxury of seeing more profiles?
I will say that I haven’t seen tons of makes that are attractive to me though. It’s not the apps fault at all, just something to think about if you’re a female wanting to try Kippo.
I could see this more of a social platform to meet other gamers instead of a dating website. The aesthetic doesn’t really fit a dating app, but it does fit an app that will help connect you to more gamers. Think like geek to geek except Kippo doesn’t feel like it’s trying to scam you out of money.
In short, it looks cool, easy to use, just not a lot of people? Would love if you could find friends on Kippo in addition to it being a dating app.

Cool but empty

I assume its just cause its new, it has great ideas for cards I just wish you could get more than 3 slots and also wish you could customize them more. The defaults are pretty cringe. Like, the “area 51 raid” card is a good idea for showing off your favorite stuff, just the unfortunate thing is that it’s all full of dead memes and even the raid itself is super dead. You’d be better off not sticking to putting current memes into it cause millennials and gen z don’t really take to it as much and it’s because they’re slow to implement. Just let the users insert whatever they want there and let them shake it up a little. That would be way better

Also, I haven’t gotten any matches yet despite I guess being a girl which Kippo also seems to lack some of. But I won’t fault it to Kippo it’s still clearly gaining user base you guys will get more users if you give more options, or maybe even implement mini games that you can play when you match to someone

Potential but very very dry dating pool/inactive users

I’ve been using Kippo for the better part of a year in hopes of a relationship but so far: I have purchased infinity, and swiped through everyone in a 55+ mile radius of where I live(SF Bay Area) and have gotten a grand total of… 1 semi-successful match, out of god knows how many people here. In a area with a population of Ten Million people I say semi-successful match as the other matches I paired up with either ghosted or straight up never messaged. Now I’m not saying this is the fault of Kippo , however it would be nice if you guys culled the herd or at least encourage activity somehow. I’m not even getting scambots. Another thing would be nice to implement a relationship filter as the vast majority of the matches are marked as friends only when some of us may be looking for something a little more serious, and it would be very helpful to add a filter to narrow down our preferences in a very dead dating pool.

Overall while Kippo has great features. Unfortunately the dating pool seems very inactive and the matches the I have gotten aren’t very helpful

Fake reviews + Horrible app

First off, please go take a look at all the 5 star reviews. They all have similar generic titles and comment how “wonderful” of an dating app this is (and are also all ironically mass posted on the same block of days). Here’s why I believe these reviews are fake:

The concept of Kippo is interesting, but the execution is lackluster at best. You are limited to 30 swipes per day, which includes likes and dislikes. That is asinine - no other dating app is this restrictive. Furthermore, actually matching with people is seemly impossible. I have been on Kippo for over 1 month now and have not received a single match. Each day I swiped on 30 people meaning after sifting through 1000 people I couldn’t find a single match. I even started swiping on people that I was not even remotely attracted to and still nothing. There is not a single dating app out there that I have had this experience with.

Please do not waste your time with Kippo. If you are eager to find someone to date that plays video games, your are exponentially more likely to meet them in whatever game you like than this joke of a platform.

Cool idea, but doesn’t live up to it’s potential

The first thing you should know is that to get any value out of Kippo they charge you $14 a month, which seems quite high for what it offers. Apparently I’m not the only one who thinks so b/c I swiped through every profile within 100 miles (which btw only took about 20 minutes) and I only saw one premium member. You can tell b/c premium profiles have more cards. So right off the bat we know it s a very small pool and one where almost no one is paying.

But the thing that really blew my mind is that it lacks the ONE feature that you might expect a gaming focused dating app to have - which is the ability to search on other people who play the same game that you play. As a matter of fact there are hardly any filters at all beyond age and gender.

I love the idea of Kippo. But the reality is that the user base is way too small, the features are too light, and the cost is too high for it to be useful.

Cool App!

Kippo is so unique, i’ve never seen anything like it! I love how it’s mainly based around gaming and personality, unlike the majority of dating apps these days. If there’s one thing I could change, it would be a bigger variety of preference options and a longer “swiping” amount. i personally think it’s unfair that i have to waste my swipes on people who i’m uninterested in. for example, i’m an xbox player and i want to connect with only xbox and psn players but there’s no options for that so i get matched with a pc player. swiping left technically counts as a swipe. i’ve gone 2 days swiping left and have ran out of swipes. if you’re going to limit the amount, i think it should be based on the amount of matches you get and not the amount of people you go through. overall i love Kippo and i would recommend it to EVERY gamer looking for friends/love!

New Update Made it Better

I tried Kippo a long time ago and it just didn’t get me the results I wanted. I downloaded it again to try it and it was a lot better. I like how we have our own little characters to run around, but it’s still a major lack of sociability. You can join the Vox Machina event to see random others on Kippo , but it is only an event and you can’t even really talk to anyone in it. I would like to type my own messages and actually talk to people, but best you can do it just emoji’s given and greetings. It would be a lot better to have a public lounge instead of just using an event and if we could actually friend request the other random people you meet. For the regular dating part of Kippo , it’s the same old usual, but I personally think it works well still.

Well designed and easy to use - but empty

This is actually a charming app. It’s obviously in its beginning stages though with such a tiny user base. It’s so new you can get a ‘founder’s badge’ for being the first to sign up for the paid service which is fairly priced imo compared to other competing apps.

Downside: if you don’t pay it’s only 30 swipes a day which is reality is a decent amount but realistically takes a few minutes of swiping then that’s it. It counts swiping left or right as one of the 30 uses per day - just food for thought.

Okay - so is the ROI there yet to use it. Depends on your outlook of things. I’d say build a profile and swipe occasionally. Kippo is growing for sure but TINY right now. If you’re in a big city you’ll still run out of people to swipe on incredibly quick. However, if this apps takes off it will be a fantastic user experience for all parties involved.

So check it out - but don’t expect anything (literally) for awhile. I’m giving it 3 stars for it being empty - which isn’t inherently Kippo ’s fault - but it does effect the user’s experience seeing absolutely no traction on their profile.

Breeding ground of nice guys

I think the concept is interesting and could actually take off- but this was executed terribly. The only thing Kippo had going for it was that it has cool profile additions, but even with maxing out everything you can add to your profile for free, you still aren’t really getting enough information about the potential matches. Also, the filtering system is pretty much non-existent. I managed to keep Kippo for three days until I was tired of getting creepy messages from guys who were 10+ years older than me or just barely 18. You want to attract gamers- then put that in your bio on an actual dating app like hinge or bumble. Even though I got a lot of messages, all Kippo did was make me feel uncomfortable instead of confident. It’s like inviting all the messages that get someone banned by your mods into your dms, and considering you can add your gamer tag I don’t think it’s the safest option.

By

Good, could still use work

So while I really like the niche aspect of Kippo, it’s frustrating that I’ve encountered the same people over and over again. It’s one thing if someone passed on me in the past and I show up again to them to give them another chance, but if I like someone once, they shouldn’t show up in my queue again.

This wouldn’t be quite so bad, if not for the fact that you’re limited on how many profiles you can view a day, meaning you often get clogged down with repeat profiles.

I get it if I live in an area with not that many users, but I’m in the SF bay, which is THE nerd hot spot of America. I should be fine. I’d rather have no one available than see the same people over and over again. L

Great App

[EDIT at bottom]
I love the style and design of Kippo for sure. Definitely more unique than what I’ve seen before in similar apps, but I only have one issue with it. It seems that the aspect ratio is off on my iPhone 7s, and it cuts off a little bit of information sometimes. For instance, when doing the personality card, I can’t choose the very bottom option of assertive or turbulent because it is cut off on the bottom. There are a few instances of that happening in the application, but I’m sure it’s just a small fix for the devs. Love what y’all are doing keep it up!

EDIT
-Thanks for the response! I did have it set to zoomed instead of standard, and it fixed it! I’ve adjusted my rating, and I appreciate the help!

Needs “preferences” options

I love Kippo, I love the idea of it. The cards are new and innovative and fun, and this is the only dating app for gamers out there. All of it is new and innovative. But I cannot count how much time I’ve wasted on Kippo pressing X because the person is not my type. I’ve seen so many people I’m not attracted to it’s insane, OR people who are overweight. I think, to be a true successful dating app, you should be able to put in your height and your ethnicity and your weight etc so we can find who we’re looking for already instead of wasting time looking at people we find unattractive. This has the potential to be a great app but it’s lacking a lot of features.

By

Really well made app, lots of promise!

Keep it up devs, Kippo is well made, has cool features, is secure with an option to flag bots, and has a focus on gamers. it’s honestly better than 99% of dating apps out there. Just needs 1) more people, and 2) a way to connect with gamers that play the same games. If we could meet people that play the same online games easily, it doesn’t matter as much that there aren’t so many people in our immediate geographic area. I think a lot of gamers would be fine with meeting people and connecting further over games, especially with the whole COVID thing going on. Make this happen!

By

Looks great

Kippo looks great. I love the interface and its whole aesthetic. The one big downside is how few people are on it. At least in my area I guess. That’s not really their fault though. It’s gotta be hard to compete with things like tinder and okc. I also would like it if it was required that on your account you had to write at least one small blurb or something about yourself. Even though those are always challenging to write, it is nice to see something in the own words of the person you’re looking at. And to know if they’re looking for friends or dating.

By

First Impressions

So far, I love Kippo and the concept! It definitely is geared towards gamers, but I do think there should be a “looking for” option as in “something casual; something serious; friends” etc. I like the card system -it’s creative- but I wish I could use more cards and have more options. Especially if cards are the only way to write text or bios about yourself, I would like the ability to have more cards. Other than that, the only problem is the lack of people but it’s not really a problem the devs can fix unless they advertise around

By

It’s Mediocre

Although a fun and quirky app to begin with, a lot of bugs and issues fitting of a new app began to divulge themselves. If you are an avid “swiper” like me, there are barely any people once you get through them. Sure it’s a new app, but it’s hard to use Kippo when no one is left.

Also, you only get 15 swipes per day that don’t refresh unless you use them all. After using them all, you can’t even look at anyone in the list anymore. Along with this, location accuracy has been really buggy and there are no paid options to increase your experience.

A great app concept but I think there’s a lot of room for improvement and I am excited to see where it goes.

LGBT community left out?

The idea for Kippo is awesome and interesting to me, to find friends or dates with other gamers, etc. But as a gay man, there's no way to sort people to only see guys who would be interested in me. It's not a good feeling swiping "likes" to straight guys, and I feel like the feeling would be mutual on their end. There should be a way to sort people that you're swiping on their gender interest as well (since this is also a dating app after all...), and without this kind of feature, myself and other LGBT people really have no reason to use this. Would love to see this change so I can edit my review!

Great Idea! But

I love Kippo and the idea behind it to bring fellow video game lovers together and such, but I have had Kippo for about a month and I have not gotten any matches at all. I tired messing with my settings and I swipe on people everyday, but still nothing so that really disappoints me. I wish there was a way to see if someone has liked your profile so I can get matches. Honestly I have better luck with tinder, but I wanted to try something new but 0 matches after having it for a month and swiping everyday kind of disappointing.

By

Good but...

The 50 swipes a day is really detrimental to Kippo ’s growth. After you swipe 50 cards and you don’t have any matches there is literally nothing to do on Kippo .

My suggestion: As much as I HATE ads (I really really despise them) I feel like it would be a good idea to maybe watch an ad after your 50 swipes to get an additional “x” amount of swipes. That way there is some sort of incentive for the user to stay on Kippo .

I also really hate writing reviews but Kippo is exactly what I’ve been looking for and would love to see it thrive.

By

This is a cool app but...

Over all Kippo truly helps out with people who have gaming lives. You can see what kinda games people like, personality traits, and so much more. Only down side is there is not a lot of people on it. So you will start seeing the same people over and over. So I’m looking forward to once there is more of a base of people. Then Kippo can be used at its full potential. Thanks for making an awesome app, just hope more people join soon.

By

Keeps getting better!!

As one of the beta member, there wasn’t much to my show my interest on my profile. With the new updates there are plenty of themes you can add on to spice up your page. It is pretty witty and cute to show the other matches your page. A lot of features will probably be added and I am sure Kippo will be one of the biggest dating game for gamers made by gamers.

Give it a try!

By

Great conversation starters

Match done. But starting the conversation is where it gets interesting. this app has a few great cards that can be customized such as Harry Potter and Pokémon themes which have helped me match interests. It is way better than my go to, What’s your name? what’s your sign? Shout out to Big Poppa. However there is an astrology option.

Overall so far so good, everyone is pretty down to earth.

By

Looks great!

I just downloaded Kippo , but it was fun creating my profile, and choosing my favorite games, and the cards are really interesting and fun. I would like a choose what you are looking for option, cause I am not looking for a date on Kippo, just friends who share my interests. I can’t wait for more people to join. My area is a bit small on Kippo so far. I’m excited to see how it grows!

By

It might be good to find some friends, but that’s it...

As a dating app it isn’t very useful. Under 99 miles were ZERO people. While the profiles are lovely with the ability to make 3 cards and pick 9 games it just didn’t leave enough to further filter people out. It’s a nice concept, but more ways to filter people out need added to be worth using.

The button response to go through potential matches were very delayed and sometimes unresponsive.

Overall I just don’t see myself using Kippo.

By

Strong foundation

The only complaint I can have currently is the user pool being small with it just releasing. App is intuitive and easy to use with a clean design. I’m a big fan of how different fandoms are used as categories to find people with similar interests! Very honest and true to their core goals.

By

App support is awesome!

I had a problem filling out one of the cards for my profile so I contacted Kippo support email. I am so glad I did! David helped me out and solved the problem quickly. They really care about the community members that are on Kippo. I recommend Kippo to everyone in the gaming community.

One of the worst sites

After giving this a month of use. It’s pretty stupid. You can’t go to profiles you liked, nor look anything or anyone up. Very beta with so many missing components that should help you, especially to find someone, and extremely limited. Interface is mediocre. I liked its nerdy layout, but when you get locked into you profile, frustration. I would never recommend this site. Finish the site before you give a “On the spot only” chat system.
