I love the idea and direction of Renaissance but it’s lacking critical functionality that is essential to make it enjoyable. I started using Renaissance sometime in February and started using it daily and seriously since end of March. I have some Cons and Pros. Renaissance would be extremely beneficial for fans and Artist’s if they fix a few things. Con – The major issue I have, and it is quite frustrating, is creating streaming parties. Users can monopolize streaming parties and prevent other fans from creating streaming parties. For example. Me and a few friends have been trying to create streaming parties for Nicki Minaj’s Discography for weeks and we have all been having the same issues. All 9 of us have the issues I explain next. When I attempt to create a streaming party, I get a message that a streaming party is already in progress. The message states “A party for “Nicki Minaj’ is already being hosted or is already planned. Check out their party below. You and host a party for it once the calendar opens up.” There is a button that directs you to the “current” party. The problem is there will be no streaming parties for her catalogue but multiple parties for single songs and playlists. Why are we not able to create a streaming party for her catalogue but can create multiple for a single song or playlists at the same time? If someone is constantly creating streaming parties for a single song (which they currently are for Nicki Minaj and it’s the same person creating the party), we will never have an opportunity to create one for her entire discography? The whole purpose of Renaissance is for fans (not just one fan) to create streaming parties for the Artist’s they like and compete with other fans. Con – It doesn’t always track ALL your streams. I stream music pretty much all day. I wake up to music, work with music in the background and go to sleep with a streaming playlist. If I start a playlist at night the next day, Renaissance seems to stop counting my streams at 50. I will wake up with my playlist still running. So, from a time period from, let’s say, 12 midnight through 6:30 am, Renaissance only registers I streamed 50 songs in 6.5 hours of uninterrupted streaming. We know this is not accurate. Most of the songs I stream are less than 3.5 minutes long. For comparison’s sake, let’s say every song I streamed was 5 minutes long. There are 390 minutes in 6.5 hours. If every song I streamed was 5 minutes long, Renaissance should register 78 streams. If every song I streamed was 6 minutes long Renaissance should register 65 streams. You see where I am going? It appears that Renaissance may not register streams if you don’t interact with your playlist every 2.5- or 3-hour period. (based on my analysis). Pro – The star earning aspect is fun and adds a fun feature to Renaissance . You earn starts by streaming and logging in daily and completing Daily Adventures. There have been 18 raffles since I started using Renaissance in February. Most have been for Artist merchandise and there was one raffle for a Vegas getaway to see an Artist Pro – Renaissance is another way for Artist’s to connect with fans, gain streams and gain new fans if they interactand provide merchandise for raffles if they utilize it.
